Hi Astrid, I'm not sure what the difference between UK and US is either lol. Anyway good luck with your journey as well and I think that while being independent is great like Mikey but it's nice to have some go to ppl that you know can relate to what you are going through. My revision surgery from sleeve to RNY is due to the reflux getting worse than it was before I had sleeve surgery. Although it's more surgery and a harder surgery according to my gastrointestinal doctor and my surgeon, it's apparently the only hope I have to fix the severe GERD (reflux disease). I'm so glad I have only 11 days to go but wound up at the Urgent care yesterday with 101.2 temperature due to a ear infection and am getting a summer cold. So I am now on a ZPak of antibiotics and cold medicine trying to kick it before surgery. I am not about to reschedule if I can do anything fo avoid it. Have a great weekend. Hi, looking for feedback on those who've done revision from sleeve to bypass. I do not have reflux/GERD issues so I'm only focused on additional weight loss. I did the sleeve 3 years ago. Was 429 lbs. Brought me to 320 lbs. My weight dictated a Bypass OR Duodenal Switch BUT I was doing it in Mexico and wanted to keep things simple. NOW my insurance covers and so I'm considered the jump from sleeve to bypass but ONLY if there's a chance for weight loss. For those who have done it... results from a weight loss perspective? Worth it?

I agree. My mum has a fear of hospitals and surgery so the fear factor is probably spot on. How has your mum got on with RnY? I thought I was decided on that but I'm now toying with the sleeve. Im getting cold feet regarding the 'replumbing' of the intestine. My surgeon has said if I change my mind it fine aslong as it's not last minute. Silly question, but when you say revision is that another OP for something else? Sent from my SM-G965F using BariatricPal mobile app

I’ve seen the mixed opinions as well, and it honestly made me nervous, while waiting for my revision. I was revised VSG to RnY 6/4 and my one month was 29# including pre op diet, 15.2# since day of surgery. My VSG pre op and first month was 29.9# and I weighed 60+ lbs more with my VSG. I’m feeling good about it.

I don’t have any answers unfortunately but I have the same insurance and ever since I got my sleeve, my GERD has gotten way worse. I’m kind of kicking myself for not doing the RNY so I’m considering a revision. I know in the Fed BCBS it says a revision has to be done within 2 years of the initial weight loss surgery though.

Haven't seen then since my 6 month check up (9 month is in early August). At that time, they still want me to do revision. I am still fairly against it. I tend to get random complications from surgery, and I don't feel comfortable putting myself through another major surgery. Plus, I have figured out how to live with my current state of being. I'm not sure I'm up to figuring out new complications if I got the bypass.

When I had my sleeve in 2013 my dad was reluctantly supportive. He wouldn’t tell me not to but he was pretty concerned. Once he saw how well I did after he was very supportive. He then supported my mom through her RnY and me when I had my revision. I think fear often drives our support people.

Revision to RNY
attorneyshannon replied to Sam.is.sassy's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision from sleeve to bypass in March. I do not have any more heartburn—that’s completely resolved. I have had a much harder time eating this time around and still do not have solid stool. As a result, I lost 50 lbs since my revision which is more than I ever planned to be honest. I was successful with the sleeve—losing 110 and only gaining back 10 lbs over 5 years. But the heartburn was too much. The recovery has just been harder. But as a trade off I’m seeing numbers on the scale I never thought I’d see. -
@notmyname, glad to hear thing are getting better (if even just a little bit )...is your team still recommending a revision for you?

Told not to lose weight before surgery
Lynda486 replied to Lynda486's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
Thanks KCgirl061! I will definitely cut out sugary! In the recent past I did the Whole 30 diet, so I think cutting some things won't be too hard. I am already a pro at chewing my food as this surgery will be a revision from a VBG to bypass. Thanks, Lynda PS I live in Southern MO -

Any August 2019 people out there?
Deedee12 replied to big_ange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow!! So impressed by your ability to staying so strong about what others would consider incredible odds!!! More power to you!! I bet you will be so much more successful this time around given your experience and positivity! I don't have GERD, I get heartburns occasionally depending on the type of food I eat. I'm borderline diabetic and my surgeon recommends the Sleeve so I'm going with it for now but making sure I do all my research for what's best for me. I endured 7 yrs of the lapband until I couldn't anymore. I'm hoping like you to use that experience to propel me to success with this surgery🤞🤞. I'm desperately doing as much head work I can do prior to surgery as this is most likely my worst issue. I've just seen so many revision stories (Sleeve to RNY) that it makes one pause and have second thoughts. But I've also seen such phenomenal sleeve success stories, I'm hoping to be one. I'll be watching out and cheering your journey and pray we August Peeps join the successes soon🤲🤲🤲[emoji120] Cheers[emoji7] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app -

So... I have a haital hernia and they're suspecting some stomach ulcers (explains the anemia/getting endoscopy soon to confirm)
- According to my doctor, hernia can re-develop after 2-3 years if it is repaired but nothing is done to my sleeve.
-
I have been going to Support Group and the CBT sessions and both have been very helpful.
- Had the chance to share my story and that has been relieving and empowering...

According to the program leader (for more than 20 years), only 5% of WLS patients stay at goal 10 years after surgery.
- One study showed the most contributing factor is a patient's support network.
- Met a lady who is 12 years out and 7 lbs. away from her goal — She only missed 4 support group meetings in the 12 years!

I really want to prove to myself before revision that I can change.

The surgery is just the building blocks, I have to do the hard work to build the beautiful house/temple...

On prenatal vitamins, protein shakes instead of meals and clean eating
- No grazing, set meal schedule, no distractions (eating mindfully)
- Trying to get into the Bio Oil regimen (thank you for the recommendation) so I can stay consistent after revision

Iron infusions scheduled weekly for 8 weeks (7/11/19 - 8/29/19) so will probably be attending half those sessions after surgery?
- Depends on where my iron is when I get labs and surgery date that will be set on August 1st

HAPPY BELATED BIRTHDAY! 🎂 20K steps? That's incredible! 😯 8/16 will be here before you know it... My [revision] surgery date is to be determined August 1st, so I am anxious and excited too. Our stats are very similar, by the way. I was 193 lbs. the day I got sleeved. I wish you all the best! Please continue to keep us posted on your progress. -

_kimGA_ replied to robynsch's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums

Conversion to Gastric Bypass Outpatient?
_kimGA_ replied to _kimGA_'s topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey Girl!! I had my revision on wednesday of last week (June 26)! It went great!!! I actually enjoyed being able to recover at home and not have nurses poking me every hour through the night. I went back in to his office the following morning so they could change dressings AND get an IV for hydration!! The gas has been painful but very manageable. My biggest piece of advice is GASX every few hours and WALK WALK WALK! You will do great! Good luck!!! Just remember: these are highly skilled surgeons who do this surgery everyday -both inpatient and out! -

BS? as in B*llSh*t? ...so you are getting your revision. This will address your GERD, so that's a good thing ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️ Other than the green-tea-ban-heartbreak, you ok? -
Maybe I missed something somewhere but if you're at permanent goal, why are you having the revision?
