My button pushers: English speaking people really should know these basics. I’m not the grammar/spelling police however some things make me itch. Too vs. to. Too means also. Add the o. your vs. you’re (you are) Contractions are your friend. Loosing vs. losing (Infinite screaming)

WHEN TO REMOVE PATCHES OVER MY INCISIONS
Dr-Patient replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They are likely "Steri-Strips." They usually fall off after a couple weeks or so. After your showers, I'd suggest you do pat them dry, though, because moisture can hold bacteria. But when you see them basically hanging off, while gently pressing down on the skin from which the loose part separated, go ahead and peel off the last bit, as long as you aren't feeling a tug of the skin tissue below. But yes, they normally ease off after a while. Also, do you have a post-op appointment? Oftentimes, the nurse or whomever will check them, and advise or remove them then, if they are basically hanging off. -
WHEN TO REMOVE PATCHES OVER MY INCISIONS
S@ssen@ch replied to New&Improved's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just some 2-cents from a nurse: These patches are dressings designed to keep your incisions together as they heal and are intended to stay on for a week or more. They will fall off on their own. If the edges of yours are coming loose or fraying, trim them off. Clean cuticle scissors are perfect for this. Do not pull them off without the express direction of your doctor. The only time I've seen doctors pull them off is if you're having an allergic reaction to the adhesive or are showing signs of infection. -

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
toniisaac replied to Pam Peltz's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hello Everyone! I now 53, I had revision done from lapband to gastric bypass 12.10.18. Thus far I have lost 100 lbs. Sad to say i wish it would stop. Lol. No major complication, now I am dealing with a lot of snagging skin, butt look like elephant legs, breast look like IV bags and arms look like a turkey neck.🙄. Health wise I feel pretty good. Wishing everyone the best of luck, please, please follow your doctor instructions. -
Hi everyone I was just approved for VSG. I’m waiting on a call back from my surgeon with the official surgery date. I am looking to have it done the second weeks of December. I am so nervous and scared and excited!!! I also keep second guessing myself and thinking if I’ll chicken out and just not do it. I really really really want this done because at this point there is nothing I have not tried to loose the weight. I am scared of failing I guess. I’ve lost almost 20lbs since I began my appts to get this done. I am on a daily injection to suppress my appetite which was a big contributor. If you are a fellow December surgery let’s lean on each other throughout our recovery!

My surgery is in 2 weeks. I am paying a little over 20K for a tummy tuck and an arm lift. I paid a little less than 1K 2 months ago for skin removal around my bra band. The anesthesia fee was about 1500$. The SurgiCenter fee was about 3500$. The remainder was the surgeon's fee.

Thanks so much everyone for the positive feedback and the sensible advice. I’m still not sure which way I’m going to go yet. My addictive personality, perfectionism and type A persona some days wants to see how far I can go. My science-brain and logic centers counsel against getting carried away. Honestly I’m leaning toward the 80/20 rule and seeing if I can IF and keep carbs under control 5-6 days weekly and then allow myself a little flexibility the rest of the time and see where my body settles. If I gain weight, then I know how to get back on track. If I lose weight, then I’m wearing looser clothes If I lose A LOT more weight (over 10-15 pounds more) then I’ll really start to get worried and will have to come up with another plan. I truly feel like another 5-8 pounds of fat being lost wouldn’t be the end of the world and my skin is already hopeless in places. Then of course is the question of if/when my body settles into a different shape. Good news for me is that the first place I would have plastics would be some kind of facelift so I still have more time to see where everything’s gonna settle.

Narcissus painted by one of my favourite old masters Caravaggio The choice is absolutely yours 💙 But another question most people only consider later is do you have great skin elasticity or a budget for/desire to have plastics

@Sheribear68 First off, you look fab! Is it even feasible to lose >100% excess fat? Yes! Myself and @FluffyChix & @ms.sss & @Healthy_life2 & many other in this thread are proof. I’m now 152.4 (GW was 155) and I’m toying around with the idea of losing another 5-7 pounds before calling it quits. I'm not sure if we are 100% in control of where we finally end up. I know that I dropped 15 lbs below my goal weight without trying, due to my restriction. I now fluctuate 10-13 lbs blow that initial goal, and have maintained here, without really trying, for 9 months. Do you guys think I will look “too skinny” if I lose another 10? Nope, but you didn't look too heavy 11 lbs ago either! This is such a personal decision, everyone feels comfortable in their own skin at a different weight/BMI/body fat. What feels right for YOU? Also, you can't know how you will look -5 lbs unless you lose those 5 lbs. And on top of that, once you settle at a weight, your body will continue to settle and readjust. So, who knows, and since so much is out of our control, does it even kinda matter?

My favorite was loose fitting pyjama pants so comfy and much better than being naked in a gown lol -
Love your outfit and your figure!! You have such cute curves and are so well proportioned!! I can see you shrinking every day! Yes, I think the compulsion to hide is definitely still with me from my OB days. I'm not sure if I will ever be able to fully ditch the issue or the BD. It does get worse after the 40lbs hon. But you also start feeling so amazing! That at least in the daytime with clothes on, you feel like all that a bucket of fried! LOL. So losing the last 40lbs is worth the skin/wrinkle attrition clothed. LOL. I'm still trying to figure out if it was worth it nekkid. So far Mr. Grumpy Pants thinks maybe no. IYKWIM? Ha!
-
I get it, Fluffy. I do. The loose skin mental battle is starting with me, too, and I know that I will get even more loose skin with the next 40 lbs. I am so far able to work through it, and I’m forcing myself to walk nekkid in front of my husband. I have been since the start. But the compulsion to hide is there. Anyhoo, I’m home sick today so no pics, but here is yesterday’s outfit. I was out and about with my partner, at the movies and whatnot. I continue to love this sweater, it’s super soft and cozy. I force myself to tuck in my shirt, because it really does look better. But man, do I want to hide the tummy! Also, the angles on all of my pics are a bit weird, as it’s the only way I can take them as close to the mirror as I have to stand. I’m really not THAT blessed in the boob area 😂

I had horrible skin elasticity since... basically childhood. Stretch marks since age 9 just from growing (not getting heavy). I exercised hardcore up until recently, but still have a lot of excess skin simply due to the rapid rate of loss. I don't know how unavoidable it was or to what extent I helped by exercising but it is still bad enough to warrant surgery. My plastic surgeon said it IS making the tummy tuck portion easier on me since I have a strong core... they won't need to suture the muscles as tightly.

Just starting today so a few days late. I actually have been thinking about needing to be more positive and grateful so once again, you have started a wonderful monthly challenge. 1. Personal Goal - lose and reach a goal I want badly for myself even though it is not 'low enough' for my height. I want to be around 170. The "charts" all want me to be 140 but I've been 170 before throughout many years of my adult life however that being said, I was younger and more physically fit and I had a SMALL waist and flat stomach so most ppl assumed I was much lighter than I was. So perhaps when I hit 170 with all of my excess skin, I may realize that I need to change this goal but for now that is the weight I'd love to reach. 2. Had RNY on 7/25 - Post-Op losing weight stage 3. Am 281.4 as of this morning (from high of 390) and BMI just hit 45!! Can't believe when I started this journey 2 years ago and started a low carb lifestyle (15+ months BEFORE surgery), that my BMI was 62.9! 11/1: Grateful I had WLS. Wish I had done it sooner, but glad I got it done 11/2: Computers & internet connectivity that make it possible to work on employer's network while working remotely. Was such a huge blessing to have a flexible schedule (although we work insane hrs) to help care for my best friend during her battle with brain cancer and then my Mom's awful 3 year battle with dementia. 11/3: Grateful I made it to another bday alive..although I'm not enamored of whole 'aging' thing, as my Dad used to say "it beats the alternative". Kind of feels weird as I'm am getting 'older' yet due to the weight loss and exercising, I feel better than I did in my 40's! I don't 'feel' my age. Oh yeah, food I'm most grateful for - Kroger Carbmaster yogurt! 11/4: Like others said - the birth of my kids. So many sweet memories of them when they were younger. But ANY memory of my Mom & Dad are some of the most precious ones I have. I had INCREDIBLE parents. One of my sweetest memories with my Mom (at start of dementia journey) was us seeing Susan Boyle perform at Bass Performance Hall. It was my bday present for her. My youngest brother paid to rent a 'limo' to see us to concert "in style". Well, this is TX but boy were we SHOCKED when a HUGE white limo with horns on it pulled into her driveway. It was so OVER THE TOP. My best friend who was still fighting her brain cancer battle cracked up hysterically over pics of my Mom in this limo with me & neon lighting all around..she said "your Mom looks like she is being held hostage". We both were laughing when the limo deposited us outside the performance hall and everyone was checking us out...LOL. The concert was lovely and my Mom who smiled all the time but often does not smile in pics...was so happy. We nestled against each other for most of the concert. Oh sweet Jesus, I miss her so much..thank you for letting me have her as a Mom.

He said that with the extensive recon they had to do, that the chances of having another set of contractures is >35%. And that it increases the likelihood that it will make my lymphedema worse. He just wants me to be at the point of not being able to wait it out any longer. And he said, at least we know what we're dealing with here instead of inviting the cat in the hat into the room at this point when I'm doing so well, looking so great, and have fabulous boobs. So he's hoping maybe that the nerps would make me feel better about myself self-esteem wise from a nekkidy standpoint. I'm not lying...there is no sex in town these days. The excess skin is crazy bad. KWIM? And I just don't feel like havin sex and being nekkidy with it. I know...Counselor time...LOL. So I think he's trying to think creatively. He said if we go back in, my best bet is to do the DIEP flap procedure which will suck, cuz part of the pain issue is I had a bilateral lat flap procedure so it was almost 360* around the chest. Then to have the diep, they'll likely tear down all of the lat flap and cadaver recon and pull from my belly? He said at best, I would be a size A (wouldn't mind that), but he also said that they won't look gorgeous, there will be more scars, and it's about an 11 hour operation due to the prior recon work. So no. It's a lot of risk... I think he's hoping he will talk me out of ever having the capsular contraction stuff done.

This is, admittedly, very silly, but....has anyone else noticed this...? I've lost a shed-load of weight and I have an apron of skin up front. It's truly flop-tastic. 😲 However, when I'm in the bath, it magically begins to float up into a rather endearing little pot-belly. 😊 I know that fat is less dense than muscle and so it will float, but to see it in action is a bit of a giggle!

Same here. I have a pic of myself in a dress in March that fit perfectly. Same weight, 9 months later, it is too loose on me.

What were your symptoms? Dumping syndrome can occur in 2 phases and is usually resolved in 2-3 hours. Early phase symptoms begin 10-39 minutes and include cramping, feeling of fullness, nausea/vomiting, flushed skin, diarrhea. Late phase occurs within 3 hours and includes dizziness, fatigue, increased heart rate, flushing/sweating, weakness. If I had to guess, it's more like 1 of 2 things: food poisoning or a stomach bug. Either way, try to stay hydrated. If it lasts more than 24 hours, I'd call my doc.

One thing I forgot about a TT is that since they lift and rearrange your skin you may have numbness. I had mine in 1999 and ever since I cannot feel my skin or belly button! I am so happy for you, sounds like this will be easy and can't wait to see pictures! -
my personal little official thread

Just got done pre-op! My plastic surgeon is so thrilled with my weight loss and working out. He said it has made his job a lot easier. It is likely he won't need to suture my muscles very much because I have a strong core. He also said since I have virtually no fat on my abdomen, which is rare for a bypass patient, that it's doubtful I will need much, if any, lipo of my flanks and it should be a super easy recovery for me since it's basically ALL skin and nothing else. Having no fat makes the moving of your belly button a lot simpler and less prone to complication. I am stoookkkeeddd. I've lost 10lbs since I first consulted with him and he noticed immediately. Gosh so sorry to be MIA! I continue to be so inspired by each one of you and this thread always brings a smile to my face, no matter how difficult the day may be!!! You all look GORGEOUS!!!! And love the fashion inspiration! Took some pics for a meeting last week. Here's the latest. 20.5mo PO RNY. 130.2lbs Maintenance. My body may have decided to defend a lower set point rather than the 135lbs that I thought it was happy at. I have lost and gained the same 2-5lbs from 130-135lbs for a while now. Just last week I briefly saw 129lbs. Now after a big weekend of fun and frivolity, I came back at only 130.2lbs--which means I may be 2lbs lighter by Friday. I'm not hatin' on that--honestly. I have wanted to reach my super triple top secret BDG Goal since I started this process. But when it didn't look like I would ever hit my 130lbs goal, I kinda released that into the ether and called maintenance at 135lbs revised goal. Then I hit 130lbs and revised the revised goal back to 130lbs. But now it looks as if I might actually make 125lbs (super triple top secret Barbie Dream Girl Goal). I'm pretty thrilled at this weight and I love how I look in clothes these days (or at least I'm moving in that direction). My gigantor turkey thighs are slightly less pronounced now. And I asked Mr. F. if he thought I looked too thin or sickly. He said that I didn't. He's very honest and objective, so I know I can go to him as a touchstone with reality. I bought 3 pairs of size 8 skinny jeans from goodwill this weekend. And I'm actually in between a 6 and an 8--oddly so. The legs fit, but the the little bit of belleh skin doesn't let me fasten them. Wah. Oh well. I saw my plastics dude last Friday. A bit of a buzz kill. He told me my insurance wouldn't cover the saggy droopy booty, even though it was giving me significant issues. He did say that I have very very little excess fat on my body - as he was looking at me totes nekkidy and that he didn't want me to lose any more. Of course I lied and said, "Swearsies! I'm not plannin' on it!" (wink wink nudge nudge saynomore...) He still says that I need to wait on my capular contractures in the reconstructed foobs. But he wants me to consider getting nerp tats so I look more like a real gingerbread girl--and less like a Skipper Doll (Barbie's younger annoying kid sister--anotomically incorrect and lacking a kung fu grip). Still chewing on that one. Don't know what to do with that information yet. Sorry for the book!!!
