Itching at incision sites
Orchids&Dragons replied to Hansel4pres's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Nerves in your skin get cut when they make the incisions. They are regrowing. (I'm sure there's a better medical term for this, but you get the idea) -
That's crazy man well done I've got myself a couple small dumbbells with 20kgs of Individual weights to try... I've never ever lifted before but I know it will help with my arm flab loose skin well I hope so!!

What to wear to the hospital and home
Midnightsun replied to Gina_baby's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I took comfy gym pants and a t shirt. Honestly, in the hospital I just wore the gown and did not change till I left the next afternoon. Basically it’s about 30 hours you are in there, just grab something comfy and don’t stress about it. Something that is loose around the belly area tho. Good luck with surgery! -

Literally everyone I’ve seen or heard about looses 6-20 the first week...what’s going on with me? i follow my instructions. I have 60-70 G protein, about 400 cal and 2-7 carbs. Water is on average 30-45 oz. im extremely confused of why I didn’t lose any weight...help!!! -
Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
bodycando replied to LAXGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Couldn't agree more. I actually didn't feel super comfortable with my surgeon (mostly because I had no direct contact with him before the day of the surgery, and the surgeon actually switched a few days before). If you feel confident in the hands of your surgeon I think that's a good and even strong sign. There will be so many strange feelings and mysterious symptoms that come throughout the various stages of recovery, and you will want to have full confidence in your surgery experience when encountering them. And like @GreenTealael already said, surgery might give you a perspective that makes you not sweat the small stuff. I just went on my first vacation since surgery (10 months and 100 lbs ago) and what I noticed is that 1.) no one cared what I looked like or even really noticed me at all and 2.) everyone else is also a little loose/saggy/scarred themselves. Hope this helps your decision making. -

Four weeks post op RNY
Nonnaof4 replied to CaitMarc917's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had RNY 10/11 surgery weight 211 and I'm 190 now. So about the same as you. I figure the slower it comes off the better chance of keeping off. I'm also hoping it will mean less saggy skin. Keep following the plan. You're doing great! -

Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
GreenTealael replied to LAXGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I scar 2x darker than my normal skin tone (Fitzpatrick IV skin scarring to a VI) As everyone said (and it's going to be hard to get just now) you *may* care less and less about the small stuff like 5-6 tiny scars. What you *may* really begin to care about down the line of research is how proficient or skilled your surgeon is at any surgery done to have the best possible post surgical outcomes (that is within your control) Or you *may* still care... My bikini pics are in my gallery with all of my unfaded scars for the world to behold and Zero ***** given 😍 -
Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
LAXGirl replied to LAXGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm not concerned about the loose skin- I plan on getting a tummy tuck eventually after I have kids down the line- I believe I can hide that scar under the top part of the bikini. So just concerned with the stomach scars right now. -
Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
catwoman7 replied to LAXGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
yep - the loose skin is going to be WAY more noticeable than the scars. I had RNY, but I didn't notice the scars at all after a few months. They were TINY. -

It's not the scars you will be trying to hide when you wear a bikini, it is more likely to be the loose skin. -
Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
VSGDavid replied to LAXGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am light skinned, had multi-port surgery. I am 11 months out, and the scars are so small you can't really see them. One exception is the larger scar above my navel where they removed the stomach. It's larger and a bit thicker than where the trocars went in. -
Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
FLHappyGirl replied to LAXGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I'm approaching three years out. I have light skin, you cannot see any of my scars (5). None! I don't recall how long it took for them to completely fade away but it wasn't that long, maybe 9-12 months. I have a friend who had surgery over 10 years ago, she is more of an olive complexion; you cannot see any of her scars either. -
Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
LAXGirl posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
So after doing lots of research I believe I found a great doctor to do my VSG. Only problem is that he doesn't do single incision surgery. When I asked him about it, he stated the scars are tiny- and with single sleeve incisions you have one big scar at the belly button vs. 5 small ones so it's better to have the 5 small ones. The thing is that I have dark skin so I'm pretty sure I will have these scars for life and they won't fade well. I would really love to show off my body in a bikini after surgery but I'm thinking I won't want to with the scars. So I'm thinking about find a new surgeon who does a single incision-which I'm not happy about as I really like my surgeon. So my questions for you all are: 1) For those that got the single incision- do you really have "one giant scar" on your belly button- or is is not even noticeable? 2) For those that did the traditional multi-port- do you feel they are noticeable if you are in a swimsuit that shows off your stomach? If anyone has photos they can share like 2+ years out that would be great. When I see photos from a year or less, especially for multi-port it scares me because they are definitely noticeable. -Rachel -

Yes its a b***h - I told no one till recently when they thought i had Cancer or Aids! I still lie my ass off and try to avoid the surgery topic, I have seen once you Hammer the weight down and get close to the weight you want to be at it seems to die off a little, They loose focus and seem to be on to the next topic. As for how much weight you lost texts? No clue working on my health not really my weight - The kids menu and the other snide comments role off eventually, I was getting annoyed but just let it slide by, Not worth getting aggravated over it. My X wife is large and she is the biggest pain in my ass i have, Don;t get me wrong we are good friends but this surgery/lifestyle change has her all wound up. Comments come non stop and i get freakin defensive and mean at times, But now i just role it off with one easy statement "Had to do it, Obviously only one of us is going to live longer to finish raising the kids and see grandkids, Eat out - Be alone, Got your carb fix for the day?" - It gets better people chill out just ride out this wave of aggravation, Plus its Friday and here we go Happy hour and lots of **** food and junk and vodka -

July 2019 Surgery Siblings Post-Op
darcyjae replied to Mom_of_Chaos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Great work! @MeowAMR! I’m in a similar spot. Down 49 lbs since 7/30, and just 11 from the one hundreds, so very much hoping to get there by the new year. I can see a big difference in my shape and clothes. I had my Bariatric appointments the week before last and everything came back normal. I feel like I’ve been more tortoise than hare in my losing, but my PA and nutritionist were thrilled. And honestly, I am not sure I’d want to be losing any more quickly. I already feel like I’ve got some bagginess in the skin of my thighs, arms and under my chin/jaw. Hoping my collagen can keep up. -
I know the rate of weight loss depends on many variables, but I am really wondering how much malabsorption plays into it. For example, I lost my weight very quickly, but I know I have fat malabsorption, and maybe that is an indication of malabsorption of all the other nutrients, as well. My poos are loose, frequent, and floatie, which means they are passing through quickly and allowing even less absorption. I have also developed ostopenia and I am struggling to keep my weight above 140. Sheribear, you are constipated and have been a slow loser. It makes me wonder if you are absorbing more nutrients and things are moving through more slowly, allowing for even more absorption. My situation may look exciting in the short term, but if I have long term nutritional deficits, it could turn out to be a real problem, especially with the calcium. Sheribear, although you may feel discouraged at times, the longer, slower loss may indeed be healthier in the long run, if it means you are absorbing more nutrition and avoiding deficiencies. I guess only time will tell. I sure didn't expect to look so gaunt and thin so quickly. I cover up my upper arms and chest to hide the ribs, bony shoulders, and protruding spine and collar bones. I am going to order some A cup bras, as the B is even too big now. I still don't recognize my body in the mirror. It looks like an old, old woman. In some ways, i wish my loss was slower, so my brain could catch up to my body. Oh, well, we play the hand we are dealt, right? It just goes to show how different we all are, and even though we may be following our plans, exercising, and doing everything "right," the individual experiences can be vastly different. Fast loss does not mean someone was a super hero in their plan, just as slow loss does not mean someone was slacking. It may even be related to pouch size and how much actual small intestine was bypassed - completely out of our control. Please hang in there, Feb buddies! We are all so close and our surgiversery is just around the corner!

February 2019 weight loss buds
Everything replied to TheMarine79's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I’m really surprised/disappointed HOW much skin/wrinkles the weight loss has left me with. Who has had a facelift consult here?? My cheeks/neck are not doing so well. Should I give it some time??? -
Here's another surgeon opinion: My guy is more concerned about weight loss rather than weight gain after plastics. He said a 15 lb weight gain would make a negligible visual difference, but 5-10 lb loss would/could likely result in skin folding along the scar incision. At the time of my consult, I was 127 lbs and he was not concerned about more weight loss because he said "You don't really have anything left to lose". Well surprise! I've gone down 13+ lbs since I saw him last. We'll see what he has to say next week at the pre-op appt. P.S. A small part of me (a VERY small part) is low-key considering postponing the surgery to give me more time to be at specific weight for a longer period of time. This coupled with the fact that as time goes on, I don't seem to be bothered as much with the state of my skin as I was before. I'm totally walking around naked and don't mind it one bit (Mr. is pleased). ALSO, my plastics priorities are changing. Now I want a butt lift, I think! I guess this is why (some) people say to wait a while after reaching goal to go down the plastics path...
-
I could have written all of this .... I was planning to let a bounce happen, and float up +10 lbs or so post ps. Like you, I liked my body better when I was a bit heavier. I also figured it might fill out some of the areas not fixed my plastics. But my surgeon was adamant that surgery weight - weight skin removed be your forever weight. Can't say I'm totally comfortable with that.

Loving all the jean jackets. Look what you started @Cheeseburgh! We even styled ours the same way @KaysMommy @FluffyChix I get the tummy trade off, but IMO it's worth it, and IME I feel thinner overall in fitted vs loose clothing. Also, faux spanx are good for the tummy & the butt! Love the bell sleeves & the mules @AngieBear Still digging the neutrals. Cute loafers! @ms.sss I've always wanted Hunter rain boots. I can't justify them, endless drought + limited closet space. I suspect I'll be online drunk shopping one day, and they'll be at my door soon after 🤣 @GreenTealael great, now I've added a jean jumpsuit to my must haves. All your fault!

It is a mental game for sure. I was freaking out in August since I was already at goal and still consistently losing. I felt I had no control and at that rate would be 110 lbs. by October. I increased calories and volume as much as I could and the weight loss eventually slowed but still felt like I didn't have control of it. Sure enough as many of you said it would slow down. I think I have lost 1-2 pounds over the past 6-8 weeks but on some days I have gained a pound back so I guess I am officially maintaining at 126.5-128lbs. I am now at 1500 calories consistently and can sometimes eat 3/4 of a cup of food (if it's soft, or slider type) at a sitting. I can now eat and egg with some veggies, yogurt or RX bar in less than 5 minutes and finish a protein shake in 15-20 if i am in a hurry if I haven't eaten in the 1-2 hours before so it has definitely improved. I have now seen 2 plastic surgeons to discuss arm and tummy skin issues for a spring surgery. Both have said (at 5'2.5 in and 127lb.) that I don't have anymore fat I could lose. They both made comments about how thin I am (that sounds crazy to me because I would NEVER consider myself thin) and both said I am just skin and muscle. I thought I had some fat in the love handle area but the PS said it's just skin. So now the decision I have is to try and stay at 127lbs. or do I let myself slip down a few more pounds assuming I will have the 10 lb. regain everyone talks about or should I purposely try to gain a few pounds for my ideal weight. If I could set the scale for the future for a consistent weight for the rest of my life I would actually like to be 5-7 lb and maybe even 10 lb. heavier. At that weight a few months ago I felt I looked good and didn't have as much saggy skin. I would anticipate I would be losing 2-3 pounds of skin in the spring for surgery as well so i need to account for that.
