  1. Thanks again everyone for sharing your experiences. It really does help!! @ sugar - I have been staying within the 800 - 1000 calories a day range with a couple of days going to 1200 when I am super hungry. I'm still staying on mushies because I am afraid to push it to regular food. I am not losing even at this calorie range! This really worries me! Even when I do get my first fill and have some restriction, I'm not so sure I will be eating much less than 1000 calories. So here's my next question for those of you that have found your green zone.... How many calories do you take in each day? Thanks again!
  2. I had a last supper. I didn't go 3000 calories crazy but I did enjoy Red Lobster the night before my pre-op appointment. If you are going to splurg do it now, because later you are definately risking your surgery getting postponed.

    Starbucks Frappuccinos

I get a tall mocha frapp light 110 calories and worth every one. Only get it a couple times a week so it is a treat and I count it in my calories.
  5. So I'm hooked on the Starbucks carmel frap. Since being banded however I've switched to the lite version that they offer. Is this just a bad choice or what? For the lite frap here is the nutritional info: Calories 220Fat Calories 15Total Fat (g) 1.5Saturated Fat (g) 0Trans Fat (g) 0Cholesterol (mg) 5Sodium (mg) 320Total Carbohydrates (g) 43Fiber (g) 3Sugars (g) 30Protein (g) 7Vitamin A 0%Vitamin C 0%Calcium 20%Iron 0%Caffeine (mg) 125
  6. Hi: I started mourning food when I was post op and it made me feel depressed. When I'm depressed I'm exhausted. Luckily it didn't last too long. Some people react differently to anesthesia. If you're eating enough Protein and calories and taking Vitamins it sounds like you're doing the right things. I agree with Sashay02. I hope you feel better soon. Sue

    Still uncomfortable

@johnson13 what Matt was saying is to take your total daily needed calories and add the calories burned each day to ensure there is no calorie deficit. (i.e. daily kcal 1500, through exercise I burn another 500, 1500 - 500 = 1000, daily kcal intake should be 2000 during this time so when exercise is factored in your still getting the 1500kcal daily)
  8. Not sure myself! Maybe the chicken was 4 oz and not 5 oz ( was guessing on size). I am 6 months out so am able to eat with less restriction now. That being said I do not make it a habit of eating like this. Usually my meals are 300-400 calories, low in fat and low in carbs. Not knowing the nutritional details about the entree makes eating out a challenge. Of course, I need to check the facts before ordering and not after...
  9. Ok, so I had my usual chicken chopotle entree this evening when eating out(about once every 3 weeks). Really yummy and flavorful. I thought this was healthy until I checked the online nutritional facts. For 5 oz of chicken breast and a small side salad with ranch salsa dressing weighed in at 960 calories, 27 grams fat and 112 grams carbs. I am like what the heck; this looked completely healthy and, in fact, looked like the healthiest thing on the menu. I found out fried cod and chips had both less calories and fat by 1/2. Check the nutritional facts folks when eating out! Time for an extra run tomorrow to keep the chubbies away. Lol!
  10. I think tracking the food on a site like fatsecret.com has made a huge difference for me this last week. I can see exactly the ratio of calories, Proteins and carbs. Yesterday it got close to the end of the day and I had not gotten as much Protein as I would like and so when I got a little hungry, I made myself a scrambled egg and had a slice of deli ham. The calories were minimal yet it upped my protein quite a bit. The website also has you log in your activities from walking, running, tennis, shopping or cleaning house and it calculates your total calories burned based on those things and just your normal calorie burning from being alive. Each day will give you a total number of calories you saved or went over by using the amount you burned and the amount of calories you entered in food. I LOVES IT. One day I had wayyy to many carbs. I just try to keep my carbs a bit under my protein and am now staying away from white carbs as much as possible (i did have a bite of my sons birthday cake though). I am still a sleeve newbie so this is just what I am trying. Try shaking up the exercise to something totally different like running in the sand or walking up a hilly road. That said your loss has been great but I think you could probably get a few more pounds off and get that BMI down! I have faith in ya. Great job thus far...i know it is far from easy.
  11. This is very normal for 3 weeks out. Keep getting your fluids and Protein in. It takes some time to get up to 1000 calories!
  12. I average between 400-575 at 4 weeks out. I've been doing a protein shake for breakfast to get a good chunk of the protein in ( isopure zero carb vanilla, 25 g mixed with 8 oz simply smart milk, 10 g..30 germs to start day..I drink half at 6 am and half around 830 ish. For lunch I have half a Greek yogurt or a slice of deli turkey and slice of cheese., I usually can't finish yogurt some have as my second snack...dinner has been 1/4 cup refried beans ( can is going to last forever) or one small bread less meatball, or egg, ham, cheese mini crustless quiches, 40 calories each made in mini muffin pan...sooo yummy

    Laughing Cow Cheese

hungry girl has fettuccine alfredo made with that cheese. it's not how you would think. she uses "noodles" called shirataki noodles. they're made out of tofu & they don't swell up in your stomach. here's the recipe: http://www.hungry-gi...letters/raw/249 the shirataki noodles come in different varieties.. they have clear ones, for asian dishes.. as well as the ones made from tofu, which come in fettuccine, angel hair, spaghetti, macaroni, etc.. they're low carb, don't swell up when you eat them (they're packed in water) & they're low calorie & full of Protein. you could make chicken noodle Soup, with some chicken broth & slap the noodles in there.. you could make macaroni & cheese.. you could have some spaghetti with blended meat sauce.. you could have shirataki Pasta & pesto.. etc. more info on the noodles: http://lowcarbdiets....atakinoodle.htm here's a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MxyigiovSgs in that, she added some cream cheese, but on the recipe it didn't list it... so up to you to add it or not. lol

    Exhausted!

I know I am only 1 week out, but I am so tired! And with eating 600-800 calories a day from now on, how does ANYONE ever have any energy to do anything????
  15. :help:I am almost 6 weeks post op and I have very little restriction. Sometimes I can eat only 2/3 cup and sometimes I can eat 2+cups of food. Because I can eat so much, I am wondering what I should do to help myself fill up. I have been trying to stick with a normal bandster diet, but when I am hungry between meals, I tend to try to eat veggies. Is this OK? I'm trying the Protein shakes and low-calorie, low-carbohydrate foods. Any suggestions on how to get through this stage while I am waiting for my fill appointment?

    Stuck at 17 pounds!!!

Hey ladies..... Same thing happened to me....My body is still adjusting. I haven't gained...but kept gaining and loosing the same 3-5 lbs after mushies and solids....hang in there..... I did just as Karen said she did too...I increased my caloric intake by 250 calories....and voila...! I lost like 6 lbs again.... but remember....Doctors say if you loose during this phase ...that is great...good for you!....if you don't it's ok too....this is the healing and your stage of developing a relationship with your band...not a weight loss phase.... Weight loss phase begins ....officially day of first fill.... this info was given to me by my surgeon....not making it up ..I promise.. just keep floating in the deep waters....until first fill.... Some days are tough...and you might need to confess a thing or too...but the important part is to make your new lifestyle banded ways a guideline of your everyday life....

    Starbucks Frappuccinos

I think if you can work it into your diet reasonably and you are continuing to lose at a decent pace, why not??? However, if you start stalling on weight loss, the first place I would go to cut some calories would be the caloric drinks.

Heck no, it’s not ok for me (except as a rare treat, and rare for me is a treat every other week or so). I am a 6’ tall male. I consume between 900-1500 calories a day. When I workout, I bump that up to about 1800 calories. Within those daily calories, I need to consume about 150 grams of protein. It doesn’t matter where my calories come from. But if they come from crap like milkshakes (which is all a flavored coffee is), then I need to miss a meal, and I don’t like doing that. Now I love coffee as much as the next guy, but I have switched to no cream or milk and only Splenda as a sweetener, I never go for the flavored stuff. Aside form empty calories, I find that sweets like this tend to make me hungrier, which only spirals downhill if I give in to it. I am on a roll with weight loss, I don’t want to screw it up with the 5 minutes of pleasure this drink can give me. On those rare occasions that I do treat myself to something like this or ice cream, I do my best to over compensate with working out or being extra strict with food the next few days. There is a saying on a lot of tickers on here that goes something like this “nothing tastes as good as being thin feels”. Well, I’m pretty close to goal and a lot of folks that know me are actually starting to call me thin. Thin? Me? Can you believe it? Well, it’s true. And you know what? That saying is very true.

Even doctors have a story to tell

I personally believe too much of a calorie deficit can stall weight loss.
  20. GOOD MORNING TO ALL! iT'S MY FOURTH DAY ON MY PRE OP DIET AND I DON'T KNOW HOW MUCH I CAN TAKE. I REALLY WISH THE DR. WOULD HAVE PUT ME ON A LOW-CALORIE DIET , INSTEAD OF THE SLIMFAST/CLEAR LIQUIDS DIET! I KNEW IT WOULD BE HARD BUT I DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO BE THIS HARD . BUT I'LL TRY TO HANG IN THERE AND (KEEP MY EYES ON THE PRIZE). YESTERDAY MY CO-WORKERS ORDERED PIZZA!! THEY KNOW IT'S MY FAVORITE, AND THEY ALL AGREE THAT (I DON'T NEED THE SURGERY), BUT I DIDN'T GIVE IN TO THEM, I KEPT RIGHT ON SIPPING MY SOUP!! I KNOW IN THE END THEY WILL BE ASKING ME FOR THE DR. PHONE # THAT DID MY LAPBAND!!
  21. I love to read stories like this. It does help me remember on bad days that it is an aye feeling. Today for lunch I tried to eat some chinese food and then after about 4 bites spent the lunch break in my car wondering if it was going to come up......the pain!!! But it went away after about 30 min and I am soooooo hungry now. But when I go to be tonight I will be glad I didn't overeat like I used too and be thankful for the excess calories I DID NOT EAT TODAY!!! Yah I love my band even though at times it is frustrating. It is funny how different you look at food now..........but in a good way. The way we were tought but couldn't control. Protein FIRST Veggies SECOND Carbs LAST I usually am totally stuffed by Veggies so GOOD BYE BAD CARBS!!!! It is a peace of mind that is so AYE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Dr. Eubanks

Kathy, I am so glad I keep getting such glowing responses about him. I can't wait to meet him. I have been in the dead zone with my weight loss too. I just can't quit putting food in my mouth in the evenings. My water slacked off during vacation and now I am trying to get back on track with it. Switched to that crystal light mix and its going much easier. I'm hoping that might make the difference for this weigh week but I really need to get back on track with my eating too. When I used to track calories I would notice 2-3 days a week where I ate more than normal and a few days that I ate less than the average. I haven't tracked calories lately but I think that I am eating more days of the higher average than before. Slightly bigger meals and more snacking. I try to make healthy choices but it doesn't always seem to help. Anyway thanks again for trying him out and I'm glad we will have an excellent fill doctor within a reasonable distance. Keep me posted with your fill sensations. Teresa

I am sad today. Disappointing realization.

Hi, Last week one of the pre-op doctors and I almost came to blows. First off I have an IUD and am 49 do not have a partner. But I had not taken a pregnancy test. We went back and forth and he said "do you want your date canceled"? So I went ahead and took the test. The next day I was sleeved, 6/8. They will find any little things including weight gain to make sure you are ready. So just hang in there and brace yourself for these things. And do not be like me and wait to kick caffeine. Going through recovery and having the headache from hell was not fun. So you will be able to breath and sleep better going forward after the having the study. Just do what they say and keep on track. I am so hungry right now it is crazy. Go ahead and eat something you really, really like not overboard and not same week of surgeryand follow it up with walking to burn the calories. If you gain even an ounce though they will stop you. Just be smart about it. Funny my daughter is 15 her name is also Mia, that was my screen name for along time MamaMia. Wishing you all the best, be strong! Walk, walk, walk! My start weight was 280.1 currently at 235 post-op. Still getting rid of the surgical gas that stays in your body. It is no joke it hurt my shoulders and neck but went away in a couple days. If you have any questions feel free to reach out. Good luck! Michele

    Jillian (Biggest Loser) comment.

TRUE. Any weight loss surgery is merely a tool. The patient will still have to learn how to NOT over-eat. In fact it will be more detrimental that they learn this, as over-eating can now cause serious physical damage to their new stomachs. FALSE. If we are talking about the Lap-Band only, I found that it is indeed MORE DIFFICULT to eat healthy foods. This was because I had a false fascination with what the band would give me. I stayed entirely too tight, as do MOST PATIENTS with the Lap Band. I would vomit all my healthy food, yet anything soft and calorie loaded was simple to ingest. However, it is TRUE that patients WILL need to learn to exercise still, and not to be so tight that they cannot eat healthy. Here's the tricky part... when someone gets WLS, they do it because they need all the help they can get, so chances are they are going to want to be as tight as possible. Again, patients STILL need to learn how to eat healthy foods, smaller portions and exercise. No WLS is going to teach you that. It's merely a tool to address the "over eating" aspect. That is all. I actually disagree with this. This does not "suck". It has saved my life. (Not the BAND but the SLEEVE) She's right about the Diet, Self Exploration and Exercise - but any obese person needs to address more than those 3 things alone. It is a conglomeration of many things, and OVER EATING is a MAJOR part. I totally agree with Waffleking that she has money to make. She's going to make half-assed statements like this to save her business. What I would suggest is when you see this, make a reply to her posts and disagree with her. I doubt she'll respond directly, but at least you will spark up some debate amongst others willing to discuss it. Thank you for sharing this! It just goes to show how mis-informed so many folks are about WLS. It doesn't stop me from putting the things I shouldn't into my mouth. Only I can do that... but it sure DOES help with me eating too much of it. That in and of itself HELPS GREATLY!!
  25. Today was my first pos-top appt. Tomorrow will make 2 weeks since surgery and nutritionist & doc released me to soft solids. Woohoo! My tastes and cravings, as predicted, have changed quite a bit. I couldn't wait to get a hold of some chicken breast. Hubby took me out to Olive Garden and they have some new "small plates" offerings on their menus now. One was a single chicken skewer with choice of a drizzle of Alfredo or red wine sauce. It was maybe 3 oz of chicken but it was perfect! Afterwards we went to the grocery store and I stocked up on Cajun fish fillets (Gortons frozen), precooked chicken breast strips, Steamables frozen veggies, a variety of Indian, Thai & Chinese sauces for the chicken, and I've discovered a new favorite snack....Snapea Crisps - Caesar flavor. They are awesome! 1/2 a normal serving is like 10-11 pods and is only 60 calories and even has a few grams of Protein. Very satisfying to get that crunch we all miss. Am looking forward to simple lunch and dinner meals with chicken breast, some sort of sauce, and a little steamed veg. I do still miss my Chinese food but at least I have the sauces now, just not the batter on the fried chicken. Also the simple pleasure of a scrambled egg for Breakfast or tuna salad for lunch! It really is the simple things now, ain't it? Keep fighting the good fight, y'all!
