Need Advice! High BMI - Band to Sleeve revision
stefaniwg replied to Irish's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I am having my band to sleeve revision with Dr. Garcia on May 22nd. My two top choices were him and Dr. Aceves who is about twice the price but most experienced in the field in Mexico. Neither one pushed or tried to get me to have anything other than what I was requesting, the sleeve. Hope this helps! -

October Sleevers! Announce Yourselves
bindi replied to SkinnyMinnie2Be's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
so I went into the hospital yesterday morning for my revision.. band to sleeve. I was so excited so when I woke up from anesthesia the surgeon told me he could not do the sleeve because my stomach was so damaged from the band. so I have been banned rebuild and he says we could try in 6 months and possibly be healed he said there was no way he was going to touch my stomach with staples. I would have leaked for sure. I'm home and disappointed but I'm glad that he took the band out of me. -
I went bypass as well, mine was revision from a band. I had bad reflux with the band, but my doctor prefered bypass as the tried and true surgery. so happy with my decision.

What Side Is Your Port On?
bluetigereyes replied to JohannaMae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Mine is on my right side. I was banded 12/22/11, and when I went in for my first fill at the beginning of Feb, my port had flipped. So the doctor had to go back in and revise it. Now it is much closer to the surface and I can easily feel it, whereas before, I could not feel it at all. -
You won't regret your desicion! I was sleeved by Dr. Aceves last week Monday (revision band to sleeve) and I think he's the best - he really, really cares about his patients, as does the whole team. No pain whatsoever, way easier recovery than with the band/removal. For me .... He's worth every penny!

Congrats all! I had my revision on May 7th and I like y'all had the feelings. I am 37 lbs down and 19 away from goal. I did have to have my intestine dilated because it was to small and I was having hard tine getting food thru with solids. After having the scope done to fix, I have had no problems. If i didn't sound bad saying it, I would tell all the pre bandsters not to do the band.

I wanted to get some feedback on revision success of band 4 years out what works what does not. I have started the research and consultation process to have a revision to gastric bypass or sleeve
-
I have no idea why I am so bruised up...All I know was that I had a complex surgery(revision).Lap band to bypass with hiatal hernia.

The pain is crazy. The incisions areas all hurt.My insides hurts.I went to a supermarket in my neighborhood that is never crowded so that I could walk.BAD IDEA....in one of the aisles I was bent over in pain....thank goodness my father drove me to and from....I am no longer gonna try to be a super woman! I can't even wear a bra ...every incision hurts. My stomach is so puffy and sore and discolored.I am currently lounging in my adjustable temperpedic bed watching SVU reruns.I am in a lot of pain to say the least. Look at my stomach!!!!!!! Revision surgery all in one is tougher than any other procedure.

Breastfeeding after a Band to Sleeve Revision?
Malaika replied to AKBarnes1's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
AK welcome to VST. We are very happy to have you join us. I can't answer your questions about breastfeeding, because I'm way past that stage. I also never had the band; however, I know that several here have revised from band to sleeve and have had it done all in one surgery. I am sure they will chime in on information for you with regard to this matter. -
Thomas' Journey
Sherrie Scharbrough replied to Aquarian1220's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Thomas and wynellgray, My hubby weighed over 500#'s. Way back 17 years ago. He presued WLS back in 2000. His Surgeon convinced him that he needed the Lap Band. He lost 100#'s but had nothing but problems with it. In Sept 2013 he went in for a revision to the RNY. The band had eroded into his Liver so they removed his band and gallbladder then told him in 3 months after he healed they would do his RNY. He ended up with abcesses and was deathly sick for 9 months. (3 of them he doesn't even remember!! So after that he found out he has Cancer in his Kidney (which Tuesday he goes in for a ebalsion to kill the Cancer. He weighed to much for them to do anything, this was a huge reason that he needed to lose more weight. Fast forward to June of 2016. We went to Mexico and again they gtried to do the RNY not happening!! His total eft side was solid scar tissue!! So he got the Sleeve!! Now he has lost 135#'s. We are so excited!! Like I said earlier he gets his Cancer zapped like POPCORN in the microwave. LOL That is what his Dr said. thought it was a great metaphor. Any how I wanted to share some of his walks in the fast lane. Both of you KEEP ON KEEPING ON!!! -
Ulcer after Gastric Bypass?
toasty replied to Annek2014's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@Annek2014 You said: "... If it is not better after that Endoscopy, we are looking a revision surgery." I'm confused about what you mean by "revision". Usually people mean something like "revision to RNY from band" or something like that, but there should be no revision from an RNY. Unless you mean reversing the whole RNY surgery, and reconnecting your stomach? Is that the "revision" you are talking about? -
How do you deal with no drinks during eating?
RestlessMonkey replied to a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Actually as a native Texan and one who grew up on the border I can tell you the cure to hot salsa is salt! No kidding. Of course, not so good if you retain Water and are supposed to watch your salt, but it works. My surgeon used to say no drinking during or 1 hour after but has since revised that to 15 minutes before, all during, and 15 minutes after. Meals are to take no longer than 30 minutes. I've tried eating without drinking and it isn't really bad. I agree with the poster who said you taste your food more! -
The health insurance bill covers MORE people for MORE things, not less people or less stuff. :001_tt1: Your fiance should be able to call up Aetna and ask them if his plan has a "rider" for bariatric surgery. Aetna should be able to tell him over the phone. If not, he should be able to ask his HR. Aetna does now cover VSG (it was considered experimental under their policies until just a week or two ago), however VSG is not explicitly listed under the surgeries covered for a revision... so you may have to ask about that once you are covered. I hope everything aligns right for you!

Ok, I was banded November 2006 at 300 lbs and lost 80 lbs. Well here I am now up to 290 and it is just depressing. I feel no restriction but yet the doctor says im completely filled to the max. I'm really interested in getting the sleeve because I've heard a lot of good things about it versus the band. I was self pay for the lapband and am getting married so will probably try to see if my husbands insurance will cover the revision since I was self pay. Anyone know anything about insurance companies and revisions? He has aetna insurance. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

I had the band and revised to the sleeve, best decision I ever made ! ! ! As for the insurance, I am clueless about Aetna, and now with all the specific employer policies in place, it's really hard to tell unless you can get your hands on a couple of the policy. The sleeve is a wonderful tool, and you won't have to worry about no restriction. Find a good revision surgeon, and check out all of your options. If you have any specific questions, feel free to post away, we'll try to help as best as we can.

Revision people help!
babelfish5 replied to dustinwhall's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Just had my revision on the 4th and am still recovering. It's defiantely correct that the sleeve is much tougher to recover from than the band. But, so far it's worth it. I can already tell a difference. I had problems from my band from the beginning. The sliming, the vomiting, the pain. Turns out that my band surgeon put a metal band around my stomach instead of a beveled plastic band (what he was supposed to do). The metal band had cut a groove into my stomach and the band had adheased. Luckily for me, the groove and adhesion was in a part of my stomach that was going to get ut out anyway. My sleeve surgeon said that in a year or 2 I was going to have a real big problem. So, I now think that the sliming and vomiting your seeing isn't normal and could indicate a problem I hope not. But, I was lucky and decided to get mine revised before my issue got very serious. I think it's very worth it to revise. -

Thank you for this forum. I was one that was very active and left the boards due to the amount of negativity at certain times and unrealistic expectations of some. I came back because I am considering revision surgery due to gerd, hernia, and lack of weightloss post pregnancy. I am looking for others that have had revision surgery. I had my VSG done in Bogota, CB by an amazing team and had great follow up care. We are now back in the US and I will most likely have surgery with Dr. Halmi. -
