Insurance and body lift ... IT'S A JOKE
damzelindistres5 posted a topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I was so happy when I found out insurance approved my body lift ad a medical procedure (not cosmetic). See, I suffer from skin rashes, boils and irritation. Both in the folds in my stomach and also under my butt cheeks. I have the scars to prove them. After submitting all my records they approved me.... GREAT NEWS! I cried tears of joy when I got approved. But that's where it ended. Every surgeon requires cash payment up front, no big deal. But what is a big deal is the MINIMAL about insurance pays for this procedure. The cash price of $22,000 (some places as low as $19,000) is expensive. Insurance only allows around $3,000 for the entire procedure! IT'S A JOKE. Deductible and max out of pockets, essentially, don't matter because you pay cash up front and only get reimbursement what insurance pays. I have medical insurance. This is a medical issue. Why am I paying still $19,000 out of pocket? Broken hearted. -

I’m sure he is. And you are super classy looking, no matter the “age” of your wardrobe. You have a wonderful fashion sense. My boys have been taller than me for over 12 years now. The baby has reached 6’3”, which is amazing to me. He is a giant in my family. My loose neck skin leaves no doubt about my age. And is it my fault that current styles are dipping into my beloved 80s and 90s fashion?

I would be fine @ 200. As of right now I've been hovering about 175 since July. I am not trying to loose anymore and have been doing maintenance. But feel 200 would be fine if that is where I stayed

Ok, so this is the basis for a bone broth, only using turkey. http://fluffychixcook.blogspot.com/2012/11/turkey-stock-with-taylor-dry-sauterne.html For chicken (don't laugh) remember I'm a mid-hedonist so I take every short cut known to man. For chicken bone broth I use the same assembly of veggies as in this stock. I usually leave the wine out unless I'm using the broth to make a complex gravy or liquid for a recipe like a soup or stew. I also don't brown the veg or carcass for chicken bone broth cuz I'm using already roasted carcasses. I only do that for turkey and beef bone broths. Browning the bones for those broths adds to depth of flavor. I add this chicken stuff to the crock pot: 1-2 chicken carcasses from Original Recipe Rotisserie Chicken-use the skin but save and package the meat. Costco and Sam's have cheap roti birds for this purpose. 1 pckg of raw chicken wings with tips!! 3-4 chicken feet (buy a package of em and freeze em so you can pull out 2-4 at a time. 8qt or bigger crock pot. Tump all the things together. If you have kombu and unfiltered ACV, in my mind, these are key. I also prefer using fresh bay leaves rather than dried, but use what you have. I use about a 4inch piece of kombu and about 1/4-1/3 cup of ACV cuz it helps leach the minerals out of the bones. The Italian parsley in the recipe is fresh and not even chopped. Then fill the crock to the tippy top with water and turn it on high until it boils. Skim it if you wanna or not. Then reduce to low and simmer for eternity. The longer the better. I do at least 24 hours, but more often I do about 36 hours. Sometimes I add more water to it to keep it cooking. It's a slow boat to China for sure but delicious and we get about 6-7 quarts of broth. Worth it to me. You can also do a smaller batch in the instant pot or on the stove in Le Crueset kinda Dutch Oven. I actually do it in the oven and cook it all day and overnight, checking on liquid status. You want it to just barely bubble every now and then. This is the best method cuz the crockpot still cooks it much faster and can sometimes give a weird flavor to it...the oven method never does but it uses more ingredients for the broth yield. Does that make sense? Also I only do innard if doing turkey stock cuz I have them (never use liver in it tho).

Crazy personal question
Healthy_life2 replied to Lynnbushea's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Large breasts are a blessing and a curse. Some of us are lucky and skin bounces back, others embrace it or have plastics. Be prepared to be offended as you rapidly lose weight. People will freely make comments about your body. Conversations may revolve around your weight loss for a while. Inappropriate and hilarious comments make my day. Please share your experiences as they happen. -
I would not worry about it. You may be fine or If by chance they would sag and you had skin irritations...maybe your insurance would cover a breast lift. Just go with the flow and do what you need to do. Sounds like it was a mean comment made out of jealousy or to put you down to make her feel better about herself. Some people like to give those little digs.. I have a friend like that it gets old.

Briachioplasty & full thigh lift
Darktowerdream replied to Ruth1ess's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I had quite a few surgeries including breast reduction many years ago, and hysterectomy in 2010 and other surgeries on my feet and Achilles’ tendon and such, but for some reason had a hardest time with the first days after my RNY. The compression garments are probably the hardest to get used to, at the same time you will find yourself depending on the security feeling they give. Once you are home that’s when things will start to get a little easier. For now maybe find new scenery in the hotel to rest. Recovery is difficult when walking is hampered, I’ve had enough of those ... take it slow and easy. And remember to elevate your legs often. im slowly thinking about the idea of plastics. And when I can I find others here who have had it. I haven’t been able to get out as much and I’m thinking about when I want to try again. I get rashes on my belly, under bust and thighs from being allergic to my own sweat. It’s so hot here so often. It would be nice to be comfortable in my own skin sometimes without sagging excess skin. Your recovery will take time but I hope once you are home it’s smooth sailing for you. -

Well as for the premier protein shakes i will try n see if i can get it here in Singapore. But i am loosing tremendous weight so i guess its my hard work n diet too..😂 -
If you end up with excess skin (above poster is correct, there are some lucky few who elasticize back to normal-looking..,mostly the younger ones, the ones who have not lost and gained multiple times, the ones who have not been overweight for very long, the ones with great genetics, etc...) the only way to get rid of it is plastic surgery. And you wont know if you will have excess skin until you lose the weight. With that said, my excess skin looks better* than it did a few months before, not so much better that I am willing to forgo plastics, but enough that I am comfortable walking around naked. *in particular, my neck and face look so much better now. my upper arms, side-boob are pretty drape-y, and have improved only slightly. However, the one place that seems to have not improved at all and in fact probably has gotten worse is my butt. *sigh*.

This is a fantastic and thought-provoking thread. I got the surgery (among other reasons) because I was terrified of ever seeing a 300+ lb weight on the scale. The closest I got was ~283 (that's my highest weight that was recorded). I'm currently bouncing up and down between 170 and 179 lbs (have been since about April of this year), and I noticed, curiously, that I'm pretty worried about getting to 180 or higher again. I almost feel like if I let myself get to that point, the deal's off, I'm a failure, and I might as well eat like it. I feel like if I'm able to get down below 170, though, I'll end up with 170 as that new bright-line, don't-cross benchmark. I don't know how long that would hold up, though - if I got down below 160, or 165, would that be the new line? I really don't know. I do know that I'm pretty happy with my body as-is right now. I've got kinda a "pooch" of loose skin on my belly, and I notice belly bloat a lot more than I ever did before, but overall I'm pretty happy with my shape and if it were effortless, I could happily stay at 175 for the rest of my life.

Gastric sleeve Post Op 21 days

Thank u for that suggestion, but its just that i am getting bored. 😀 i do have few bites on french fries..at most 2 fries but as its soft i am able to chew on it. I had 1 wing stick but manage to eat the meat only and discard the skin and fats. Had ice cream too.. my dietician was telling me its based on individual and certain people are able to take it and some are still unable to take certain food. I skipped pureed diet totally. -
I posted this question on another thread because I'm not sure if I'm in the "still losing" or "maintenance" part of my journey...not sure how to know when one is done and the other begins! So, here's my question and I would love any advice...thanks for the others who did answer on the other thread!! And, thanks in advance to anyone here! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I'm trying to decide if I should continue trying to lose more weight or be satisfied with where I am. I will be asking my doctor in a few weeks, but curious what you folks think. Had VSG surgery in Aug, 2018 and lost about 90# in the first 6 months; have lost another 5# during the next 10 months. Am 66 yrs old, 5' 2", BMI=26.2, currently weigh 143# but my goal has been 130# because I weighed that for 30 years before I got overweight. The "normal" BMI for me (24.9) is below 136#. I now wear a size 4-6, exercise every other day (1 hr of fast power walking & 1 hr of weight lifting) and eat about 800 kcal/day. My bad knees won't allow me to run. I have excess skin under my arms, thighs, butt and abdomen but I don't have any way to know how much it weighs...easily hidden by clothing. I'm pretty muscular but not sure how much that weighs either. It just seems crazy that I'm still in the "overweight" BMI category and I'm just not sure what more I can do to lose another 7-13#. Any thoughts from those more experienced than me?

Well my dietician has told me to be on pureed diet, but i guess its individual as i am able to chew on soft tofu and soft vegetables and boneless chicken..i am still loosing weight every day. But other than this what else could be better..any suggestion? -
As a guy i really dont care to much about the skin - However i have been using a cardio workout and light weight work out to tighten up - So far working for me but only down around 100 pounds and I carried it well - I was told by a trainer to do a light weight daily workout to keep tight. But I have lost a ton of inches and to me a ton of muscle, They say it was fat but i liked my beefy arms and legs better before

Being frank, your doctor is wrong. Lots of people don't need plastics or have issues with skin. A lot depends on how young you are. I also highly suggest taking biotin and collagen before and after surgery. It'll help with hair and nails too. Additionally I'd get into weight lifting as soon as you're cleared. That helps too, especially with the legs and arms.

it's also easy enough for most of us to hide that a lot of people decide to just live with it. I DID eventually have mine removed because I couldn't stand looking at it when I was in the shower, etc, but no one else knew it was there. I was somewhat restricted in what I could wear - for example, sleeves had to be at least elbow-length, I had to wear jeans or "tummy-control" pants/leggings (something like Spanx probably would have worked to hold in the gut skin, too - although I didn't try that), and tops had to be slightly oversized and long enough to cover my gut, but given I followed those rules, the excess skin wasn't noticeable AT ALL. P.S. the photo of me I just added - that is me BEFORE I had plastic surgery. I lost over 200 lbs. See all the excess skin? I didn't think so....

Agree with above.. The way I'm going I'll be at goal within 3 months.. I know it will take much longer for my body to catch up and some skin to bounce back.. I'm only one month post op so taking it easy with weights for now until I'm feeling stronger.. I'll eventually need to go to the gym and do more resistance stuff to try tone up but i know it will be a long process even after reaching goal I'm relatively young so that helps of course..

It all depends on how much you have to lose and how much elasticity your skin has to start with. I am 63 and lost over 100 pounds. My arms, thighs, belly, back, and chin were really saggy, to the point where I was seriously considering plastics. However, with time, a lot of the sag has disappeared. It has been about 4 months since I hit goal. I don't know how to explain it, but I would not even think of surgery at this point. (My boobs are hopeless, however, and there is no comeback for them outside of surgery.) My suggestion is to wait a year after reaching goal before deciding about plastics. You may be very pleasantly supervised and not have to undergo more surgery. I think waiting also gives your mind a chance to catch up with your new body. There is a huge mental adjustment to make - from disgust/embarrasment to acceptance/embracing the changes, and only time can do this.

Hello everyone! I'm currently 1 week pre-op. Loose skin is something I've been wanting to learn more about. My Dr. says plastics is the only option. So I'm starting to prepare for worse, and saving up. But! Is there any alternative recommendations? And anyone willing to show or there skin experiences? Thank you in advance! Please weigh in on unusual items for hospital stay
Losingit2018 replied to Ymasita's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just had surgery Friday. Brought a bunch of stuff I never needed. The hospital provided chapstick and I wore a loose fitting dress home. With no bra. Just a jacket over my dress. I was only in one night. My incisions are also glued on the outside. Good luck to you!
