Calories for Phase 5 or 8 weeks PO
Fred in Pa replied to cocoduan's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
At 8 weeks I was at about 800 calories per day. I went mostly on my restriction and making sure to make good food choices. That equated to about 5 to 7 ounces per meal depending on the texture. Most of my calories came from protein. My team didn’t give a calorie goal but instead advised what I outlined above. I am now at four months, and have added in more exercise, and therefore more calories. I have slowly added in carbs while watching my blood sugar levels as well to balance my diet. Looking towards maintenance, I was told to balance calories and activity to maintain weight…all while making good food choices. -
Calories for Phase 5 or 8 weeks PO

I'm also wondering. I'm 4 weeks post-op. Everything I've read, however, says that in the first 2-3 months it should be anywhere between 300-600 cal. I've set my limit at 500 (which includes 75 cal and 21 carbs from vitamins) because I'm eating solids now and those tuna, chicken, and beef servings are pretty high in cal even though I don't exceed 1/2 cup servings of anything. I'm a revision sleeve to bypass. I use Baritastic to document my cal, protein, carbs, fat, calcium, and H2O. I don't have another appointment until July 24th. Every doctor, though, has different opinions about our nutrition. Your best bet would be to contact the doc's office and just ask. I should probably do the same, lol! -

Emergency contraceptive

First, you must be so freaked out right now. Deeeeep breaths! I have three beautiful kids as well so I know how you feel. From what I understand, pills such as these should work just fine. They break down in your stomach, yes, but also in your digestive tract. So your body will absorb it just fine. The hormone in the morning after pill will function as intended. Only “XR” tablets (extended release) can have issues so I don’t think you have anything to worry about. 😊 -
Man, I'm just going into my 4th week and eating mashed potatoes and started with tuna and I'm reading that y'all are eating green beans, carrots, shredded cheese, and pasta?! I'm jealous... lol I ate a spoonful of sauce and cheese from the lasagna that my family is having for dinner and felt guilty.. lol

There's a reason Shelly's Baked Ricotta is the most popular soft food recipe in the WLS community. It's basically lasagna minus the pasta and it is amazing after weeks of protein shakes and sugar-free jello. Pro tip: divide the recipe into 8 ramekins or small glass dishes before baking. https://www.food.com/recipe/shellys-baked-ricotta-324036 -
Depressed before surgery
MasonMoonGirl replied to MasonMoonGirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Thank you!! Yes I did not go to that restaurant i was invited to at comic con, my fiance and I went to benihanas instead and I am so proud of myself for just eating steak and veggies and saying no to that rice! Yes I am now doing private therapy once a week and joined a binge eating support group and life after bariatric surgery support group. In the literal week I've been in therapy I've learned a lot about myself already and family patterns etc. It's amazing what a difference it makes! I really haven't told anyone I'm getting WLS except for my sister and two close friends. We told my fiances family the first time I considered getting it and they were scaring my fiance and me telling us about this person who know this person who had complications and this lady who can "spiritually" heal me from overeating instead of surgery (Hispanic small town problems lol) and I didn't end up doing it. So now we will tell them when I'm out of surgery, I don't need any negative opinions, this is my journey and no one else's! -
I had to take the morning after pill last weekend, but I have just woken in a panic after the thought occurred to me that it may not be effective after bypass? My husband and I already have 3 children and our family is complete with my baby child only being 9m old, I just want to know if anyone else has found them selves in a similar situation and the pill has been effective? My surgical office is closed untill Tuesday this week so I can't just call to ask.

I just discovered cake batter! Good stuff! Vanilla and caramel are my other favorite flavors. Scrambles eggs, cottage cheese and regular cheese were my friend in the initial weeks after surgery. Some people make ricotta bake, which you'll have to Google because I never made it. -

When Can I Sleep On My Stomach Again?
sleevedinthe817 replied to CarmenG's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I started sleeping on my stomach again around 4 days post-op. My neck and back were so messed up from sleeping upright and I just couldn’t do it anymore. I had to turn a little slower at first, but no worries at all now (two weeks post-op). -
How Long Do Stalls Last?
catwoman7 replied to CarmenG's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
1-3 weeks is pretty common for a stall - but a month is not unheard of. You're only 11 days into it - so it's not an issue yet. -
I had soft green beans and carrots, it was so good. Had anybody thought about the Lego buns, keto hot dogs or Leto street tacos? I’ve had the street tacos and it was so good. I’m in the beginning of my 5th week.

8 weeks out and I’m starting to force myself to eat I do get hungry but i don’t want to eat 😣 and I don’t want anything else with protein it. No protein shake no protein snacks They’re all becoming disgusting and hard to eat 🤢 Food…i take 2-3 bites and I’m tired of it. Put it in fridge to never be seen again

Honestly and genuinely, and without disagreeing with anyone here (because only they can know what has worked for them and all of our experiences will differ) stalls and plateaus are a completely normal part of losing weight after WLS. If you stick rigidly to the plan you have been given then in the vast majority of cases stalls will break, plus eventually (sooner or later - and people get there at different rates) you will get to your new set weight. That weight might not be your ideal weight but that's what the surgery does. All of the side stuff you do along the way makes little to no difference IMO. It's window dressing. And we kill ourselves angsting about it. Sure, if we've been on a long stall and we then decide to increase/decrease protein/carbs/exercise/type of exercise/duration of exercise/CALORIES/whatever, and we resume losing weight, it is human nature to attribute the renewed loss to whatever we did. But we're working with an experimental group of 1 (me) with no control group. Basically if all the time we're sticking to our programme then that's what kick starts the new loss, not the other stuff. If I could go back in time 20 months I would just say to my post-op me "stick to the plan, use your tool, and see how far you can get. You will lose rapidly and lose slowly with no rhyme or reason. Stop comparing yourself to others - they're different to you. Surgery works, stick to the plan!!!!" I really hope this helps someone else.

This is going to sound crazy but …. Up your calories to 600. You’ll likely break through your stall that way. As for the stall itself, they can last a month or so. Just focus on following your plan, and drinking water. -
Things that have been helping me Pre-Op

Yes during my carb withdrawl is when I posted that depressed before surgery post lolll. Now I feel much better my fiance ate a burger with Bun in front of me at lunch and before that would have pissed me off to the max and now it didn't bother me haha. We are actually staying on the beach so our cottage has a refrigerator and kitchen I'm very happy I don't have to eat out and ruin my diet. I just made a meal plan for the week of my semi liquid diet I am a huge sauce person so I'm doing a keto lettuce crunchwrap Supreme (keto taco bell) for dinner and a big Mac salad. Going to measure my sauce so I don't go crazy I know it would be better without it but until I go full liquid I'll allow it it's still low carb since made with Mayo! -
How Long Do Stalls Last?

With that I do not see how your getting 40 carbs a day. I know you said under 40 grams of carbs a day and that would for sure be under. I am not sure what a swiss cheese wedge is where are your carbs are coming from? I am only getting the 4 or so carbs in the shake 2 times a day so it has to be under 10 for me.. I am worried about the 3 week stale myself because been doing so good and I would hate to slow down right now. I have access to 15 floors in my apartment building so I just walk up and down the stairs for 27 min in the morning and evening for exercise. I can start my free weight lifting again in 8 more days the dr told me 4 weeks after surgery I can start back weight lifting. I started doing the flights of stairs a week after surgery. Maybe we are over thinking it all.. LOL -

I'm home right now too until Aug 8th when I go back. Initially when I detoxed from carbs and alcohol (semi-liquid diet), I did not feel weak. The first three days were a b*tch because withdrawal. Yes, even from carbs. But on like day 4, I was really feeling good. I had energy, I was in ketosis, and I was sleeping sooo much better at night. I think you'll do great at the beach, just please hydrate and take your shakes, maybe even no sugar, super low-carb protein bars, and have a good, healthy dinner. -
How Long Do Stalls Last?

First surgery / Lost 55lbs with pre surgery diet in 5 months doing atkins / low carb. They only told me no coffee first 2 weeks. Then ok and said max 3 cups a day. I handle it great no problems. I did wait 2 weeks before trying any. I am only eating the ensure max protein shake in the morning mixed in the coffee. Protein shake by itself for lunch. 2 eggs or a can of tuna or half a can of chicken chunk breasts for dinner. keeping it simple and I am hardcore. Not counting calories at all.. I am counting protein and carbs.. Keeping carbs under 10 grams a day and you can calculate the protein its a lot.. They took my cigs. they took my weeed.. they are not taking my coffee -

Things that have been helping me Pre-Op
CarmenG replied to MasonMoonGirl's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
For me it was supposed to be 12 days on full liquids and then 2 days clear liquids right before surgery. My doc told me that if they opened me up and found any food in my stomach and/or gut, he'd cancel it and sew me back up! So, I wasn't taking any chances. He also wanted me to lose some weight prior to my surgery, so that also motivated me to start detoxing and dieting 4 weeks before I had to. I wasn't counting calories or anything on my semi-liquid diet, but I wasn't snacking either. I would control myself until dinnertime, lol. But I found that once you detox from carbs, it gets really easy to not crave them so much at all. -

Did you snack between during your semi liquid diet, I really want to do that too at the exact three week mark
