Does Mini Gastric Bypass 'feel' the same as being Sleeved?
slimsuz replied to slimsuz's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Thanks so much for posting, I've been hearing people say that they didn't feel much restriction after having bypass and that weight loss was much slower than their original vsg surgery. Appreciate your feedback, Im very keen to revise from vsg to bypass due to weight gain after 8 years. -
Does Mini Gastric Bypass 'feel' the same as being Sleeved?
Tomo replied to slimsuz's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had a revision to full RNY (not the mini bypass since it wasn't covered by my insurance), and it feels the same but no Gerd. Main difference for me is a continuing low appetite even in the 7th month, double the rate of weight loss due to easy satiety off a couple ounces of food. -
I had the sleeve many years ago and it took awhile, but I developed severe Gerd and esophagitis. In August of last year, I had to get a revision to bypass, and I haven't had any Gerd symptoms so far. So at this point (entering my 8 month post-op), it has really, really helped me sleep better, feel better.

Same thing with my surgeon. I did however know I had GERD and have been on 2 prescriptions for years now and still have issues. I have high hopes that the gastric bypass will "correct" it.
-
I wanted to have WLS for weight loss. But I was told that because of my severe GERD that the sleeve was a bad choice. After doing a lot of reading on the net and forums I would have to agree. Most of what I have read reflects that most people who have the sleeve end up with GERD even without having it before surgery. So, with the reading and my surgeons advise, I will be having gastric bypass on 3/21.

I had the sleeve done 7 years ago and developed horrible GERD with extensive esophageal damage. Tomorrow morning my surgeon is revising me to bypass as it offers the best chance to get rid of the GERD. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

Has any one who’s had the bypass, switched to gummy vitamins & had no issues with their bloodwork? My surgeon said I had to stick to chewables or pill form vitamins.. I dont do well with pills as they make me gag & these chewables taste so gross😭

Ten days post surgery. gastric bypass. have weak voice. Not sore throat. Not mucous or phlegm. only have 60 percent of my voice. weak.

Mine completely went away the first three years after surgery. I have reflux issues occasionally again now, but they're mild - nothing some Tums or Rolaids won't knock out. gastric bypass IS known to improve if not outright cure GERD for most people (not all - but most people)

Hi guys, this is my first time on this forum. I found out about this site from reading it in a Bariatric Surgery information book. I’m considering gastric bypass because of my GERD. I’m in process to getting all my clearances. I should be finished by April. Hoping to have the surgery by the Summer. Has anyone who’s had GERD been healed after the surgery? Any other advice about this procedure. Thanks 😊

Welcome! I'm having my revision on the 21st!

I’m sending thoughts of warm puppies and Spring flowers. Bypass helped my GERD immensely. I became able to lie down flat to sleep. ZZZZZ

When I had my sleeve the first few hours were the worst part, but that's when they have the best drugs available to help. Once I got comfortable in a bed the pain got better and then got a whole lot better after I got moving around. I'm hoping my revision Tuesday goes about the same. I had a sleeve and developed severe GERD after. Now I'm getting a revision to bypass. Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app

yes - that's the usual recommendation for patients with GERD. Sleeve can make that worse (it doesn't in everyone, but it does in some). Bypass usually improves if not outright cures it. I had bypass for the same reason.

Anyone in MINNESOTA?

No, I was ok . Very tired and sore but It was tolerable. No drains for me. That might be for bypass I had the sleeve. My husband took only I day off and I was ok. I didn't do stairs. Alot of sleeping and walking and of course trying to get liquids in. I have a high energy job so I took 5 weeks off and I was good going back. It took alot out of me the first couple days back. I love premeir protein. I had to water them down after surgery but they have so many flavors that you don't get too bored. All flavors except the peanut butter( I didn't like that one ) were really good. No problem asking questions. I had so many also -
To any of you concerned about GERD and reflux-I was going to have the Gastric Sleeve but when I had an EGD with Bravo it was discovered I had off the charts GERD. My surgeon said it would be better for me to have the Gastric Bypass……

I doubt they would cancel you. They would most likely just have to rearrange their schedule a bit to accommodate the extra time it takes to do a bypass. As in you would just possibly go at another time of day. -

I’ve noticed some of you are having a gastric bypass because of heartburn issues. I do have heartburn and acid reflux occasionally, but I am having the vertical sleeve. I don’t have my scope until the day before my surgery. I think I’m over thinking things because I’m nervous. I don’t want to fly out there and have my surgery postponed/cancelled -

I am super super excited!! I'm having trouble sleeping at this point. I'm so damn calm, no anxiety. My approval process for revision was around 3 weeks from the day I had the endoscopy to the day I got the phone call telling me the good news. With the kind of reflux damage I have surgery almost always happens. I had a second scope a few weeks ago and the damage had gotten worse, not better. However, the ulcers did heal thanks to the medication they put me on. I didn't really have any food funerals. I had a few things I wanted to eat one last time, but was very underwhelmed with all of it. Yes, there will be some food I'll miss but I've been wanting to get sugar out of my diet anyhow. I'm more ready for the change this time than for my sleeve 7 years ago. I'd love to lose another 25 pounds to get down to 160. I think it's very realistic. Are you having any food funerals or are you kinda sick of food as thus point? Sent from my Z6201V using BariatricPal mobile app -

March 21st for my revision. See my Dr for pre-op this Thursday. A lot has changed since my original surgery over 22 years ago. My Dr said I should be home same day, but we'll see. -
Just wondering if anyone has had or is having revision to their gastric bypass. Such as pouch resizing, distillizationon or both?

You must be excited. I know I am, but it was a relief getting approved after the 6 month process. My surgeon has a crappy bedside manner (but is the best revision surgeon in the area) and stressed me out at our first meeting in pre-op for the egd, telling me getting insurance to pay for revisions is next to impossible but I can self pay. Single mom here, so no, I can't self pay. Needless to say, after the egd, he had to do more testing due to undigested food still in my pouch after a twelve hr fast, discovered slow motility and he was suddenly singing a different tune. "I will get this approved". I meet with him one last time on the 3rd for my pre-op instructions. I quit smoking for this and am determined to get to goal wait even if it is slower going. I'll be watching and waiting to hear how things go for you!
