3kg to lose before surgery... any help?
NickelChip replied to AMJ2598's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
How frustrating when you're already doing so much! All I can offer is my experience with my pre-op liquid diet. For the weeks, I had 3 protein shakes per day, sugar-free jello, broth, and the occasional sugar-free popsicle. Averaged around 600 calories per day and around 20 carbs or less per day. It was effective, if not pleasant. I lost about 6.8 kg in 2 weeks. -
I am 9 weeks post op. I gave up protein shakes after 4 weeks when I was allowed to, I'm not a huge milk drinker. I get all of my protein with food. Typically I have 2 eggs for breakfast with turkey sausage. If I don't have that then it's 3/4 of non-fat greek yogurt with 1/4 cup of nuts and 1/4 of berries. Tuna with salad for lunch and some sort of protein with a vegetable for dinner. I'll have 1/4-1/2 cup of fruit after lunch. I'm not a big snacker but I'm fortunate that I can 4 ounces of protein typically so I don't need to snack. I usually come in at 650-750 a day.

Water and Protein
GEAUX SAINTS replied to ShrinkingEbony's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm only 3 days out, but yesterday, my 1st full day home, I was able to drink 80oz of liquid, including 48mg of Protein. My son is 3 years out and he went through a multitude of protein powders before finally finding one that was good. I ordered mine 2 weeks before surgery so that I would have it post-op. Its called Optimum Nutrition, 100% Whey, Gold Standard, Rocky Road, 5 lbs. I put 2 scoops in a 12oz shaker bottle (shake vigorously) then put it in the freezer till its almost frozen. Shake it again, then enjoy, and I mean REALLY enjoy...its really, REALLY good!!! -

Getting Gastric Sleeve Surgery Tomorrow!
amberj replied to mlpoixz222's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
good luck!! Dr taylor did mine (same office). you should come to the support group at womens hospital on dec 14th at 6 if you are able. its very informative and meeting people like us is great for motivation. best of all, it is free! they also have sessions where different Protein drinks are offered for samples and they discuss diet exercise and life changes. I hope to see you there !!! ( the meetings are every 2nd wednesday of the month from 6 to 7 30) I'm not sure if Dr. Frelich has the exact same mannerisms as dr taylor but i assume they are close since we get the same packet. One thing to ask for is liquid pain meds!! they ordered me the pill form is it was very hard to keep down. the 2nd time the dissolved it which made me vomit. The elixir was later prescribed but my stomach rejected it too. All in all they do really good work. I have hardly any pain now and am feeling closer to normal each day. Hope everything goes great!! prayers bein sent your way!! -

I don’t have a scale to properly measure my food but I did use a portion control plate ( double protein instead of a starch ) half plate of veggies )Did anyone else have the meal option , do you know how many calories the meal should be ?

Bowel movements
HeidiSue2009 replied to deb in texas's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am questioning my lack of bowel movements. I am 4 days post op. I am on a clear liquid diet....water, Jello, broth. NO Protein. I have NOT had a bowel movement since surgery. Should I have? I am kind of worried about this. I started miralax this morning to see if I can help get things going. Sent from my SM-N920V using the BariatricPal App -
How do you guys do it?
JT1230 replied to choicemun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm one month out and nutritionist said to eat every 3 hours. All foods she suggested are rich in protein. Some days I have to remind myself but others I'm hungry 2 hours later. Every day is different but just focus on your goals and do the best you can each day. -
Hey! I'm pre-surgery so I can't speak to the Vitamins question, but I can tell you I've been using the unjury Protein powders since about May 1st (on my own) just to be able to get more protein each day - MD wanted me eating about 100gms/day which is really hard to do. I've lost a little weight during that time and time that my craving for Pasta has practically totally diminished, and I am not craving sweets. A co-worker suggested I try the Unjury so I read all the reviews on the website and took the plunge. I even like the chicken Soup flavor, just have to closely watch the Water temp. I just hope that once I have the surgery my taste preferences don't change. Have you had your surgery yet? If so, how have you been doing since then? I'm new to this website and have been reading a lot of posts mainly to gather information and everyone's different experiences.

How do you guys do it?
Inner Surfer Girl replied to choicemun's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It sounds to me like you eat more frequently. When you refer to your Protein do you mean "protein supplement"? Because almost everything you eat whether it is soft or solid food should have some protein so you can reach your protein target. Early out I was eating or drinking something pretty much all day in order to reach my targets. It does get easier as you heal. -
Dr. Watkins - diet after surgery
chelsea replied to debinphoenix's topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
If you're only 2 weeks out, those foods are probably too heavy for your stoma to have more than 3-4 bites. Maybe stop at 3. You'll get more down. Also, when you're about a month out, start taking Vitamins. You're NOT going to get malnourished in those few weeks. I know my body has enough extra weight to survive for a month! Just kidding. But seriously, you'll be fine. The first few weeks just try to get in Protein. That's the number one thing to be health conscious about. liquid Protein will be your best option. And good luck! -

I ate sf Jello and pudding for like a a week I couldn't stomach Protein drinks for about a month I ate some egg whites around day 8 post op and I was fine. I had surgery at Lutheran in Brooklyn 9/17 I've lost 40 lbs post op. so far. You'll stop thinking about food so much when you over eat a few times. For me it feels like I'm having a heart attack when I over eat. -
Why Protein Is So Important
BigSue replied to GradyCat's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm not looking to start a debate or anything (I follow the protein-first approach that my surgeon recommends), but I came across this video from Dr. Matthew Weiner explaining why he recommends a vegetable-first approach for his patients: -
I am half way through my 14 day pre-op liquid diet (day#8) and scheduled for the sleeve next Tues April 4th!! I'm super excited At the beginning of my journey I was set on getting the Lap Band, and after all the research and talking to people who've done the sleeve I just thought it be a better option for me so then I changed my mind and now I am doing the sleeve.

Just my thoughts, worth what you're paying for them... In a sitution where the time to get the weight off is truly a life or death matter, I would advocate RNY. I don't say that lightly b/c I'm not a fan of the procedure, but if it's "lose weight in a year or you will die" -- then RNY is probably your best option. -

Those are good tips I'm gonna try that !!! Thank you all for your support !! Means a lot and you are all right what is it to my coworkers they are just my coworkers!! I really need to focus on how I'm going to get my fluids and proteins in whole I'm at work that's gonnna be hard nurses dobt really get much breaks that's more important then what people say ill let you all know how it goes -
Veggies can be difficult to digest this early out. You also have to be careful with seeds (zucchini, cucumbers) as they can get stuck in your staples or incision and cause complications. Try sticking with things with Protein such as cottage cheese, refried Beans with cheese, strained or pureed Soups (no rice or pasta), greek yogurt, etc. Be sure to get plenty of fluids. You may still need to supplement with Protein drinks or shakes. Be sure to bring Water and protein Snacks to school. Good luck.

Spoken like someone who works in insurance. :Banane37: No but seriously GLB is right. My wife used to be an agent and it varies from policy to policy on what the co-pays, deductables, and coverages are. For examply I have BCBS Florida Options. With my employer we have a $1500 total deducatable on all medical. Beyond the $1500 is 100% coverage in network. Now with that said it still has to be approved like everyone else who is lucky enough to be covered by insurance. -
Almost 1 month out-I went to the GYM today!!!
fern replied to fern's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
Thanks everyone!! I went 5 days in a row, but my body is rebelling as a pulled groin. So I took today and maybe tommorrow off and then I'm back at it. I'm already starting to notice a difference in the running time. I can run for longer at a time. But a question...... When you started back at the gym, did you feel bloated and gain Water weight? I was at 189 when I started at the gym. Within a couple days I was at 194.5!! I upped my carbs ( from 60 to 80)and Protein ( from 80 to 100) for the gym, but now I'm wondering if I shouldn't have. Any ideas? -
Thinking about cheating on Sunday
elcee replied to NJGirl32's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you have no restriction then you should be able to choose to eat what you want. Obviously you should be making healthy choices. There is no point in going and deciding that you can eat anything just because you are not restricted yet because by doing that you are setting yourself up for failure. You should choose foods that are not full of empty calories. Have some Protein - maybe lean chicken or a small piece of steak etc. Have some vegetables e.g. a salad . NB when I say salad I mean something with lots of fresh raw veggies in and no protein. Not a mixture of Proteins and creamy sauces with a token sprinkling of lettuce. Something like Beans is also good. A small portion of carb if you want. I would avoid the beer and have a glass of wine or something like that and sip it slowly. You need to get into the healthy eating habit now, you already have your band, you do not need to wait for some point in the future when you think you may have restriction. Planning on cheating is not good. Planning on adapting and enjoying a situation by making positive healthy food choices is good. -
12 Days Post-Op Gastric Sleeve and Totally Regretting it
FluffyChix replied to Arabian78's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow, so sorry to hear this. ((hugs)). I second the using either unflavored protein powder and adding it to broths when you're cleared for it, or to add in some other form of protein like egg white protein, or vegan protein. Whatever you can get in. My RD said in a failsafe worst case scenario, I could whisk in pasteurized eggs (Egglands Best) into my broth so that it was creamy, not like egg drop soup. That means you have to keep the broth around 140-145 degrees. Just to get some protein in. I know it isn't unusual to have diarrhea when all you're having is Gatorade and clear broth. Can you try the Powerade Zero? Theoretically it should firm up with solids. Hang in there!!! It WILL get better! -
I don't think I'm doing this right
suzzzzz replied to julie74601's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Even though you are counting the protein based liquids towards liquids, your body still needs water to prevent dehydration. That may account for light headedness. As for being full your stomach is healing and the nerves can't give you an accurate reading for fullness. For some, the swelling helps identify it.
