  1. I was cleared for everything at 6 weeks (but I was walking since post-op day 1). I didn't actually do more than walking until about 8 weeks though...hot yoga, zumba, rock climbing, upgraded my walking to alternate jogging laps. I also did minimal strength training (and still do), but only because I hate it, not because I can't. These days I run 5km a day and do 15 mins of strength training on some body part or another every day. (Full disclosure, I was off my running routine for about 2 weeks to due illness and laziness, but am back on the wagon as of this morning!) I have loose skin. Agree with @catwoman7 as well: loose skin after massive weight loss is pretty much unavoidable except for the lucky few. Also agree with @Healthy_life2: strength training/lifting helps to tone and fill in a bit, but will not eradicate the loose skin completely. I will say this from my experience though: I really, really, really hated the look of my loose skin about 15-20 lbs ago, I guess because there was still some fat under there and gave it a rolling look. Now, that I'm leaner, the look is not as bad, to me at least (still hate it, but I'd remove the 3 "really's" now, lol). In my "problem areas", the skin looks more like wrinkled fabric now and is much more easily hidden...so this is less annoying to me. With that said, I am scheduled for an arm lift and breast lift revision (to address side boob) next week, which was scheduled 6 months ago. I was thinking I wanted a tummy tuck too, but I have since decided that I can live with it as the loose skin is limited to above my belly button (you can see a pic of how I hide this in the "Albums" section in my profile) ...my butt is another story. I have been doing lots of butt exercises but there doesn't seem to be much improvement there. Mr. says it may be because my ratio of running to weight training is too long-distance-running-centric: Weight training plumps the butt, endurance running flattens it. He suggested I add in some short distance sprinting in my runs, which I tried this morning, but I'm not sure I like doing it in and around the neighbourhood, lol...I will try it on the treadmill tomorrow. Wow, I just re-read this post. Sorry it's so long!
  2. I thought I would throw this out there in case it might help anyone else. I had an endoscopy this week which among other things, indicates Eosinophilic Esophagitis (EoE). which will be confirmed with biopsy results. EoE is basically an allergic response that changes the lining of the esophagus and can result in scarring and permanent damage. Food allergy is the most likely culprit in most cases. This tissue change had never been noted on any previous endos - just this one which was 10 months post op, which makes me think that it must be something in my diet that was added since surgery. My doc mentioned that Whey can do this in some people, and Whey protein is the ONLY thing that is different and has been added since surgery, and we all know how much we rely on the protein shakes and protein powder to get our requirements in. So I have switched to plant based protein powders now. I had cut out dairy products several weeks ago, to work toward more plant based eating, but was trying to finish up the whey protein powder, just because it is expensive and didn't want to waste it. Well, the surprising result is (gets graphic, so those with weak stomachs)........my bowels have completely changed. While many of you are constipated, I have been struggling with light colored, loose, frothy stools, up to 8 times a day and coming with urgency that made me carry an emergency "clean up" kit. A also had a lot of malodorous gas that was socially embarrassing. Since stopping the whey, my stools are NORMAL! Normal color, normal firmness, and only 1-2 times a day. Gas is now minimal. This is wonderful! I did not realize how much the loose frequency was affecting my quality of life, especially with outdoor exercising, running errands, and work. So much better now! Sooo........ if anyone else has the stool symptoms I have experienced, try cutting out the whey and maybe all dairy for a week and see what happens.

When did you guys start the gym?

Agree with @catwoman7 Your surgeon’s will give you a release to do more than walking. Exercise will compliment your weight loss. Lifting has helped me gain muscle and fill out the skin a bit. I still have loose skin but it’s livable and hides easily.

When did you guys start the gym?

I could walk right away. I was cleared for most things at four weeks out. For weights, I had to wait eight weeks. Depending on your age and how much weight you lose, loose skin will probably be unavoidable. Toning may help some, but you may still be "blessed" with it. Fortunately, most of us can hide it pretty well.
  5. Just started last week my Doc said 4 months before cross fit, But light weights not sure of - The cross fit does help with the skin issue, But dang it sucks big time
  6. Xenical (orlistat) blocks some of the fat that you eat, keeping it from being absorbed by your body. I'm in my third day pre-op and I ate things I shouldn't have yesterday because I was hungry. I have my surgery tomorrowl. I've lost 10 pounds since the whole process so I won't worry about gaining weight. But the problem is that xenical makes your stool loose. I have this silly worry that when they operate on me, they won't be able to do it well because the stool in my intestine is loose and therefor have complications. (Is this a dumb thing to worry about?)
  7. Just wanted to know when did everyone surgeon say it was okay for you to work out? I kind of really want to avoid the extra skin from hanging and get my tone on lol

LOL, not sure if you are talking to me? But you did quote me, so I'm going to assume "yes". Sorry if you weren't! I definitely have excess skin in my upper arms and my side boob area, which I am actually getting addressed next week with an arm lift and boob lift revision! (so excited). They aren't so very bad and I can hide them pretty well, but I hate them so they have to go! My butt is also very deflated and I've got a bit of wrinkly skin above my belly button, but i can live with them .

I think teardrop look way more natural. Especially when your nerps are pointing in the correct position! And trust me, the pain from scars is significant. I still have terrible neuropathy from my recons. And a lot of it is concentrated in my pits and along the base where the scars are worse. So you dodged a bullet!! That's fantastic about the lipo and lack of fat. Love that he loved your weight!!! And 4.5lbs! Holy crap. That's a wad of skin!! Hello Clarice. You're too skinny and have too tight a tummy for me to eat you now. (in a non-pervy way). More like with a nice chianti and a fava bean! I think they do that on purpose to keep freak-outs to a minimum! Imagine those having face procedures!!!! When do you leave?

probably wont go with my skin tone lol sorry could not help it
  12. Isn't it amazing just how much the skin stretches? Congrats again and you look FAB. I need to get my belly done but figured I would stabilize somewhere and then look into it. Too bad insurance doesn't cover it.
  13. You have to retrain your tum just as someone said, like an infant. So you can't easily go from liquids (yogurt is considered a liquid in my program) to dense solids without issues. Use meat lube (broths, gravy, braising liquid, and sauces) to lubricate your bites. Make EACH bite the size of a pencil eraser. Chew to kingdom come. Add a little lube. And swallow. Then wait a minute or two to see how it settles and repeat the next bite. If you feel discomfort, stop. My progression was: Foil wrapped fish (white fish litely poached in broth and seasoning in foil). tuna and salmon mixed with tons of Greek yogurt and dijon mustard, hb egg, and 2% cottage cheese and blended until almost smooth. It was VERY wet and loose. soft scrambled eggs mixed with Greek yogurt of light sour cream to make them very loose and creamy. soft boiled eggs with butter. over easy fried eggs. egg white puffs (my fave!!) sugar free and savory egg custards. roasted smashed cauliflower (like mashed potatoes but low carb). refried pumpkin soups/stewps/chili made with turkey chicken (canned) green bean casserole made baristyle chicken pot pie casserole (no crust) made baristyle lasagna bake no pasta made baristyle and then I progressed to things like salmon, ground meats, then chicken, pork, beef dense and lean. I could not do burgers for months--way too dense and heavy feeling and too much fat.

He did lipo on my arms before removing the skin - I forget how much he said. I have a picture of the actual skin removed but it's graphic and I dunno if I should post it here because people get grossed out. lol.

TY! I couldn't remember if you had a lift or the twins or not! I knew you were having the implants and the LBL and that you had decided not to do the thighs/butt. Did he lipo anywhere? Has he commented on things like how little fat you have under your skin, etc? Did he say how much the skin weighed or how little fat was left in the tummy pooch you hated? (Um, inquiring minds and all. hehe.)

    My Plastic Surgery Thread

oh yea - LBL's, especially, can be really painful. Way more so than weight loss surgery. LBL's alone take about four hours - but that probably depends on whether or not they do a lot of lipo, or whatever. But yes - you got all that done in about the time it normally takes to do an LBL. my second surgery took six hours - but that was a brachioplasty, breast lift (no implants) and incisions that went pretty far down my sides to get rid of "side boobs" and some excess skin under my rib cage that he couldn't get to when he did my LBL.

Congrats!! that must feel amazing. I bet it will be so much easier to get a coat that fits too. I have kept some old, loose shirts thinking I would need loose fitting stuff for swelling and the ease of getting them on and off but I guess even with swelling your arms are immediately smaller from the skin removal. I will hold onto them just in case but I guess i may never wear them again. Did the surgeon say how much skin he removed form each arm in size or weight? Did he do lipo before removing the skin? I guess that is the norm since lipo separates the skin to remove it but I don't have much fat on my arms, its just skin.
  18. Welcome back! Congrats! I've missed you and glad you had so much fun and were able to let yourself cut loose and eat, drink and be merry. Also super stoked you are able to jump back into TCB!!!! Wooohoooo! Now THAT's what I'm tawkin' 'bout!!! I had a miserable fail yesterday with IF. LOL. Caved by lunch time then was hungry heifer all day for protein. Something weird is going on about the protein cravings. If they continue, I'm gonna be forced to check in with the doc. But I have my live support group on Saturday and plan on asking my RD about them. Am trying for an 18:6 today. At this point the head hunger is fierce, but I'm choosing to be stronger. Karate Man don't feel no pain! Have a great time at pilates!!!
  19. Rusty's? You must me from P Cola . I love all of the questions. I have gotten drug tested at work because everyone thinks I am on meth because of all of the new energy and weight loss. The only down side is some of the social crowd thinks I am sick or something. But when my drinking buddies ask how I lost all of that weight, I wink and say "cutting alcohol has caused me to loose weight" I can tolerate everything but draft beer.(in moderation of course)
  20. I had a sleeve done in 2013. I lost a ton of weight and am very happy with the resuIts. I lost 120 pounds and have kept it off. The problem is that it gave me terrible GERD to the point where medication no longer helps. I've seen multiple doctors and they all say I need surgery to correct the GERD before it becomes pre-cancerous. The surgery to correct the GERD is a gastric bypass. I'm already at my goal weight of 175 and I'm scared that I'll loose too much weight. Has anyone experienced this too? I'm looking for feedback.

    Daily Menus for Maintenance

Good Monday morning! ((hugs)) on the bloated tummy. My #2 train has been playing fast and loose with the train schedules. It keeps sending partial trains down the track thinking I will be fooled. But yeah...this isn't my first time conducting. LOL. So I feel ya on the hard tum! I was really good except for too much booze this weekend - until last night. We had fam over and I made our dad's meatballs and sauce, had a skinny Manhattan with orange bitters and had 2 glass of cab over the course of the evening. I have been up and down between 130.8-132. This morning I'm back at 131.4lbs. And yet...I know full well I have at least 1 more pound up north, stuck somewhere on the tracks. Let's just say with all the greens I've been eating, input is NOT anywhere equal to output. LOL. Yesterday, Sunday, Dec. 8, 2019 Maintenance: 57y / F / 5'4" / 22mo PO RNY / 131.4lbs B1-Flubber Protein Frappaccino #3 (thank god it's gone!) Am I losing my mind...

So I was warned prior to RNY surgery to be aware of the emotional changes that come along with all the changes your body is going through. So, for the most part things have been good. No real emotional issues, supportive family. Surgery was 9-18-19. I am -62lbs. I am very proud of it. My family seems to be proud too, but my husband is like a double edged sword. He says I look good, but then complains if I ask to get a pair of jeans that fit better, or the fact that I need new underwear, or just looking at cloths in general. All of the sudden he hates every thing I say I like or really want. He says my tastes have changed... duh, Im dressing for different body size and type. I am not even in the plus sizes anymore. I am still dressing modest, not showing off skin... but seriously. I wanted a pair of boots, (western boots) he said why, you havent worn them before.... that is BS prior to gaining all of my weight I was jeans, t shirt, boots or tennis shoes all the time. Why all of the sudden is what style of cloths I like or want such a big issue? And its not just cloths... Family asking what I want for Christmas... I give suggestions then he huffs and puffs and is like ewe, why would you even like that? From patterns of dishes, to patterns on cloths, purses, shoes, wall hangings... WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING WRONG? Why is nothing I like acceptable anymore? Sent from my SM-G955U using BariatricPal mobile app

    The Maintenance Thread

Just checking in. I'm about to start the next part of my WLS process .... plastics! I'm having a lower body lift & breast augmentation .... tomorrow! 😳 So I guess I'll join in the Monday fast. 🤣 I'm curious on how this will affect my weight. I'm heading into this surgery right in my 125-130 window (126.4 yesterday). My surgeon estimated 4 lbs or so of skin/fat removal, plus 2 lbs for the implants. So net net, I might be less 2 lbs after surgery. But then there is swelling. I'm sure my appetite will be suppressed at least early on in the process due to pain and nausea. But on the flip side I'll be less active during my recovery. So, yeah, we'll see!
  25. Hey all! So far I’m down almost 69lbs from my consult weight! When I saw my surgeon for my 3 month post op I was down 52% of my excess weight and no longer considered morbidly obese! I go for 6 month post op and labs in February, he said he wouldn’t be surprised if I was at or near goal. He also said I can start looking for a plastic surgeon for skin removal!
