I have PCOS and used to cycle maybe 2 or 3 times a year unless on bc. Then in 2012 it stopped for two years almost to the day. In 2014 I started working out with a trainer and my periods came back almost exactly 28 days apart for the first time in my life! I got my period days after surgery, right on schedule and they have been within a day or two since. I'm only 2 months post-op, but I am on my third period and they seem to be staying on track. I was a little worried about them going haywire again, but so far so good. pam

Seems like we are all experiencing so many different things. I was and still have never been nauseous. really had no side effects and I'm wondering if they should have filled my balloon up more. It's at 500cc. I'm on day 25 and still have seen only a 4-5 pound drop. They told me I'm the only person to ever feel ok and not lost a lot of weight by now. Not something you want to hear. I'm not happy bc I spent so much money on something I thought would work...eating like 1000-1200 calories a day and still nothing much. They are talking about putting me on weight loss meds too. Ugh

Things I didn't expect my first month post-op
mrslopez replied to SleeveMe247's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had to laugh at some of these replies bc i indeed experienced the terrible gas pain that had me in tears!!! I popped gas x strips like crazy I felt like i was some type of drug addict with the gasX. Im almosy 6 weeks post op...i at first i wasnt hungry much but then started getting hungry.also i never knew it would cost me so much and be so annoying to figure out which other protein shake I would like bc i got tired of the one i was already drinking. Protein shakes make me gag especially if it's a new type im trying for first time -
Big Clothes - Must turn the corner now!

@@Inner Surfer Girl's excellent suggestion prompts me to be specific and jarred my memory for another possibility. In NYC, Bottomless Closet outfits women who are joining the workforce, having completed job-training programs. It also offers workshops on interviewing skills, resume-writing, personal money management/budgeting, etc. One of their programs is unique: A book group, which is an opportunity for the clients to learn about networking and encourages those who haven't been readers to broaden their horizons. The staff and volunteers are wonderful people. This is the group I partnered with 5 1/2 years ago; it's on their premises that I do the WLS clothing exchange during their off hours. What the WLS participants don't take is donated to BC for its clients. I don't know if each location around the country is related to the others, but Dress for Success also provides interview-appropriate clothing to women. There may be one in the area of anyone who's reading this. Similar organizations for men are quite scarce as far as I know. In NYC there is Career Gear. Inner Surfer Girl's recommendation/information is most likely the way to go in other places. -
What Did You Learn About Insurance? Share Your Wisdom!
Elode replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
First thing I ever did was call my health insurance company (BCBS -FED) and spoke to a live representative. We went over all my questions that I had hand written before calling. I checked each one off as I went through to make sure I asked everything I wanted to know in one phone call. I'm not the most patient person so multiple phone calls was not in the plan. After I got all of my answers I had them email me everything too so there would be no issues down the road. I knew exactly what I had to do to get qualified and I did that. My surgeons office had things wrong more than once. How long I had to do the pre-op NUT visits. What numbers I needed to qualify seeing as I had no comorbids. Luckily I knew so I was able to correct them and keep thing moving at a fast pace. No going back, no submitting paper work at the wrong time, no wrong numbers ect....I was persistent and armed with the information I needed from the jump. 3 months and not one day longer than what I needed to do and I was approved. -
YES! This, absolutely. People who are overweight have a much stronger opinion. Like "That's a bit drastic, "Oh I wouldn't go through all of that!", "Well... if that's what you want to do..." as if none of us have ever struggled with weight loss before. I have only just told people so I have another 5 weeks of boring judgemental jealous jabs about it. Nothing is stopping them from having the surgery! I just got fed up before they did! I wonder what nasty comments they will come up with once the weight starts dropping off.

Feb. 1st Surgery Date!
prettyCali916 replied to Karak2007's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They'll probably give you your vitamins while you're there, no? I hope they do bc I'll be out of it and probably won't remember to take them on my own. How many days are you expecting to be in the hospital? I'm staying one night of there aren't any complications. Got my Protein today!!! Two cases of protein from costco and I ordered some other kinds online just to try. Time is creeping by! The liquid diet is making me so tired and it feels like it's taking so long. One thing that helped speed today up is that I started watching a British show about WLS in YouTube - the Fat Doctor - and that has been distracting and interesting! So excited for us!!! These next 8 days need to hurry up!!!! -
Post VSG - Stomach Bug - Not sure what to do
gabrielle2014 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had VSG in Dec 2014 - last week I got very sick with an awful stomach bug where everything I ate went through me (sorry TMI). I didn't throw up but have been steadily very sick to my stomach. I went to my GP on Wed and she didn't think I seemed that dehydrated even though I have only been getting about 4 cups of Water a day. My upset stomach has gone away but now I can't get anything down - when I try to eat Protein I just spit it up i'm so grossed out by it. I can eat toast and crackers but the carbs are making me feel super sick after I eat. I feel very sick, shaky, and dizzy. I can't call my surgeon bc I just switched health insurance and won't have coverage for a specialist until Feb 1st. I don' tknow what to do or why I'm reacting so awfully to this stomach bug. Has anyone else had the stomach flu and how did you get rhough it? This is the worse experience I've had since surgery. Help? -
Once everything was actually in, it took a week and a 1/2. A couple things had to be resent. I also found out I had a silent heart attack from my EKG and gallstones (no symptoms). I will keep taking my blood pressure meds and call on Monday about the bc pills.

Ask her why she feels the need to be negative? It's not very "friend-like". I would call her out. I would tell her that everyone is different and you do not plan on gaining your weight back. Bad things do happen but it's a hard process. Maybe even emphasize that clearly it's not an easy way to lose weight especially when she supposedly knows so many people who have regained. That should prove to her how hard it actually is and she should be supportive not negative. That's all I got. I haven't told anyone else bc of exactly this. I would've ripped her a new one but that's just me. Don't be me. She should feel privileged to have been trusted with the details of your surgery. Sorry you're having to deal with this! Good luck!

Aw!!! I love sweet stories that end up happily! OP - Impressed at your skills in sifting through all the BS out there. I wish you the best and hope the creepers stay away!!! -
So I've already emailed my surgeon and my pcp, I am waiting to hear back. Mostly it won't be until Monday. So while I wait I thought maybe I could get a little insight from all you helpful people here. I have mitral valve regurgitation. I take heart medication to slow my heart rate Bc I was having insane racing of the heart. Two weeks ago I saw my pcp Bc the medication was making me dizzy. Well come to find out my blood pressure was dropping to low levels 92/58 and my heart rate was 42 Bpm. My dr lowered my dosage, I had signed up for the gym the day before and asked my pcp if I had any restrictions for working out. She said anything should be fine but I should wait to take my morning dosage of medication until after my workout. I have been following all her orders to the T. Here it is two weeks later I'm still having bouts of severe dizziness throughout the day. My trainer has me doing 40 minutes of cardio 5 days a week, 3 days of weights. I have felt awful for almost 3 weeks now. I feel like I am sick however I am not sick. After every workout I feel extremely nauseous, and usually come home shower and fall asleep the minute I sit down until I have to get the kids from school. My husband thinks I am hitting the gym too hard, for the amount of calories I get in a day. I am 3 months post-op and still only able to get about 500 calories a day. I try to eat more but I just can't, I start feeling like I am going to vomit. I get my protein and most of my water. I feel like Bc I was feeling this way before working out it could still be the heart medication even tho For the most part my BP and pulse are good. But the whole gym and lack of calories makes sense as well. Anyone have any advice?

Bones for bone broth?
Miss Mac replied to Nurse_Lenora's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Yes. A store like Walmart Supercenter will not have them because there is no butcher shop. Their meat is trucked in. If you can find a market with a fresh meat butcher, they will have the bones. I have found packaged beef bones shrink-wrapped and displayed with other meat. What my mother used to do was buy beef with the bone still in, like a round steak, and just carve out the bone for Soup. Requiring organic or grass-fed will make your search harder and more expensive. -
46 so I'm guessing 1984 is the year you were born bc of your screen name? Thus I would be (barely) old enough to be your mother! LOL

Frustrated! Why is BCBS (FED) saying they havent received my package
NewLife1985 posted a topic in Insurance & Financing
Hello my name is Felicia, and I finished all my requirements January 13, 2016. My insurance coordinator said she submitted on Tuesday but It takes time because it goes to different dept. Mind you she is my surgeons wife so I figure she is telling the truth. I have been calling my insurance twice a day and they still say they haven't received anything and that it takes 3 days to upload faxes into their system! Can anyone confirm this? I'm getting impatient and I'm about to freak out! I wouldn't care if the "review" took long I just hate that they say that they don't have it at all! -

Question about weight gain while on gabapentin
skinnylatte replied to Djmohr's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My opinion is u can't eat a lot anyway but don't take it bc it will make it harder for you to fight cravings and make the right decision based on how u are feeling and what u need to do -I would say -I'm taking amitryptaline and I swear it makes me want to eat all afternoon but I try to ignore it or just drink coffee since it's probably a sugar craving issue or anxiety idk -
Insurance Tricare?
claddagh66 replied to claddagh66's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Ya know I had that feeling! My doctors office told me on day 1 it was covered now by them as of just a few months ago but something is just not sitting right with me. I had a feeling it wasn't. I don't want the bypass. Now I'm really bummed ???? So did you pay for your sleeve out of pocket? I may end up just doing just that myself. Thanks for your informationHello Cladd, my husband is active duty Navy. As you know, we have Tricare prime. I had the sleeve done Dec 30, 2013. And BC of almost 2yrs of a stricture and acid reflux, I had to have a revision to GBP on Dec 4, 2015. Unless something changed recently, they pay for the sleeve. Hope this helps and sorry if this is a repeat answer, I didn't read the entire posts. Good luck:)Thanks so much for your answer! It was not a repeat post and thanks forctsking the time to answer me. Sorry you had complications with your sleeve! That's terrible. Hope you are doing well now -

I had the mirena and I loved it but I grew to hate it. I could not lose any weight with it regardless what I did. I had the band at the time and I would workout, eat right, and that scale would not budge. Right before having it I was losing weight. Then it stopped right after I got it. I got it taken out and bam, down 10lbs a few weeks later bc the progesterone had to get out of my system. I also have PCOS, and now I have a sleeve instead of the band. I'd do some research 1st. A lot of people claim that it causes u to gain weight. I'm going to go for hormone free IUD in the future

Anyone have Blue Shield CA? question....
reachbree replied to reachbree's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Question.......Could the reason Im getting a different response from everyone is be my employer? Im hearing that policies are also based on your employer. For instance, even though 2 people have the same insurance (BS/CA, Ach Em Oh) lol they may have different policies and/or requirements, based on their employer or the plan that employer has. So that is what this is beginning to look like. BS/CA may not have this requirement anymore, but my employer may have required it specifically in the plan they offer their employees. -
Nope, I would not reply to someone who indicated they had WLS no matter how well written their profile is. Like CowgirlJane said, way TMI way too soon. I also don't respond to people who complain about their exes, who label themselves as "nice guys" or worse something along the lines of "nice guys finish last" or any other sort of whiny bs. On a personal note the "nice guy" tag annoys the crap out of me...the fastest way to get a woman to run away from you is to tell her you are are a good guy. You let her know this through actions, consistent, good man actions, not labeling your profile with "good man" garbage, ugh that annoys me. Don't fill out your full profile- no one really cares to read that much unless they're a stalker, in which case you have bigger problems. In terms of best dating sites, hands-down I prefer Tinder. As a pre-qualification, this used to be known as a hook-up site, which I didn't actually know when I first started using it. I have met one person off of there and he ended up being first a really good friend and later my boyfriend and, lol, there was never any hook-up type of arrangement. He took me out for a nice dinner the first time we met, like is supposed to be the case for a date. Tinder is great because the only people who can message you are people you have an interest in, so for women you don't get every creep and their brother messaging you. Also, while there is the point that Tinder is shallow, so is life. Let's be honest, if you aren't attracted to someone, you aren't likely to end up dating them, so why not just get that part out of the way? On Tinder you only talk to women or men who you like and who also liked you. I haven't used the app in awhile, but for someone looking to meet someone without having to go through a lot of sending messages and being ignored, this is a decent start.

For lunch I rotate between artichoke hearts (frozen, not the ones in a jar coated in oil), green beans, and grilled asparagus. I keep it super-simple with just light salad dressing or a bit of grass-fed butter to dress them. For dinner, I rotate between brussels sprouts, broccoli, and cauliflower. I roast them in the oven with olive oil spray and some herbs & spices. I also add some chopped dark leafy greens or avocado to tuna, salmon, or sardine salad.

I was forced into the gastric sleeve.
Miss Mac replied to g8edgrl's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I have been holding off on responding, but this sounds to me like the urban legend about going to a foreign country, getting kidnapped and waking up with a kidney missing. On her repost it indicates that she has 18 posts, but on her profile page it says this: There have been 1 items by g8edgrl (Search limited from January 22, 2001) .....One post from 2001....... My BS alarm goes off when there are only a very few posts and the surgery date is the default 1999. I hate to sound cold if this is for real, but it is soooooo bizarre and hard to believe.
