    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

I had my revision surgery March 1st, went home on the 3rd and went back on the 5th thanks to a bowel obstruction. I'm one of the rare people who experience a bad reaction. We're hoping steroids and time will take away the swelling that's causing the obstruction. Pay attention to the warning signs they tell you. My surgeon gave me a big magnet with instructions of what to do. I did just that and called the on call surgeon, who sent me to the ER and ordered a CT scan. On the plus side, no more GERD! Hair

Hello again, I just wanted to know if anyone with pcos and has have/had hirsutism how did/does it look did you have less hair on you body by a lot or just a little or what was your result of your hirsutism after gastric bypass?
  3. Hi everyone! I have not had the gastric bypass yet. I am still in my first 6 months of learning to eat healthy/dieting. I do have a question. What do you when you get sick? I have always been told drink ginger ale or coke with cracker, or my other got to is bread. It just seems to settle my stomach when I am sick and especially have to take meds. This town I didn’t want a shake, anything felt like it was make it worse, but the ginger ale/coke abs crackers made me feel better. Or just eating plain bread. I just know after the gastric bypass I don’t think those would be an option or most likely not the best option. I just don’t know what else I would do. Thank you in Advance!

I’m thinking about getting the sleeve as it’s more conducive in case I need a revision in the future. Hope your doing well!
  5. Welcome to the club! I had my sleeve in Dec 2016, lost a LOT (about 120 lbs in 6 months), slowly put it back on over then next few years, until I was almost back to my starting point. I got revised to a bypass in Nov 2021 and it's going great so far! As of this morning I'm down 65 lbs and feel great. Both of us now know how to do things right and how to do things wrong, so keep that in mind when tempted, that's what I plan on doing. Good luck!
  6. I’m an April 6th surgery. This is revision surgery for me. Good luck to everyone! Looking forward to hearing all the awesome progress.
  7. Hi all. So I had my revision 4 days ago. A 45 -50 pound weight loss would be perfect but I am terrified of regain. I am so afraid I'll gain again. Is anyone out years from surgery and maintaining??

    A shameless plea for support

I had gastric bypass in July 2020 and I constantly worry about slipping back into my old ways. I feel like I can eat way more (volume-wise) than I should be able to. I see people posting on the Food Before & After Pictures thread and saying, "I ate two bites and was full for the rest of the week," or "I merely looked at this salad and was stuffed," but I can eat a "normal" size meal at this point. However, I think back to what I used to eat and realize I am still eating far less than I used to, and I'm eating foods that are much healthier and lower in calories than what I used to eat. A few things that have helped me: I shop almost exclusively online - grocery pickup or delivery. This makes it easy to avoid impulse purchases because I order in advance and don't actually go into the store. I start with my favorites list, and search for anything I need that's not on my list. My point is that I'm not browsing all of the products in the store, but targeting what I want to buy, so I don't even see or look at junk food, and I don't bring it into my house. I eat a lot of vegetables. Every week, I buy and prep carrots, celery, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, and sweet peppers. I prepare a container for each day and I pre-add a saved meal in My FItness Pal each day, so I snack on the veggies any time I want during the day (I use Walden Farms zero-calorie ranch dressing as a dip). It's a lot of food for very few calories (not to mention healthy and full of vitamins), and it helps me avoid snacking on other things. I almost look at it as an assignment to eat the veggies -- I have to eat them, so I better not fill up on other stuff first. I find healthy and delicious recipes on Pinterest. I've found so many great recipes that I don't even want things like pizza and fast food. I eat healthy(ish) treats every day. My favorite thing is sugar-free meringue (whipped pasteurized egg whites with 0-calorie sweetener), which I eat raw as a whipped cream substitute, frozen as an ice cream substitute, or baked as a cookie substitute. 25 calories worth of egg whites makes about 1 cup of meringue or 20 small cookies. Other favorites include protein bars (Built Bars are my favorites, and they're lower in calories than most protein bars), sugar-free Jello, protein mug cake, and plain rice cakes sprayed with I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and sprinkled with brown sugar Swerve and cinnamon. I think these treats help me stay on track and not get tempted by real ice cream and high-calorie cookies.

    What Led To Revision

I had a lap band for 7 years and I had it removed almost a year ago due to GERD. I'm revising to RNY in the near future.

Hi@Woodstock23, I hope you're well [emoji16]. I'm booked in for a gastric bypass on the 24th and I'm feeling exactly the same way. I'm worried it will not take place but also a bit scared of having the surgery [emoji85]. I'm doing my best to keep my mind busy so that I don't worry too much. I've been reading 'Life after gastric surgery' and it has been really helpful, I'm watching 'My 600lb life' and getting the house organised so I can be less stressed over housework after surgery [emoji1787][emoji23] where are you having your surgery? Keep smiling how've got this [emoji3059] Sent from my SM-G980F using BariatricPal mobile app
  13. Hi. I’m new to the app and am thankful for it. I have my surgery Monday (3/7) which is removal of my band and doing a bypass (with the added bonus of fixing my hernia). Anyone here from the sac area that is looking for a WL buddy or from any area really looking for a buddy?
  14. Hey there! I'm about 19 days post op and my doc ordered blood work because I've been really weak and dizzy when. My blood count (except for white blood) is low indicating anemia or an internal bleed. Wondering if anyone had Low blood count post op, what you did and does it get better? Thanks Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Low BMI pre op question

Hi Lizzie, I’m in a similar situation. I’m getting gastric bypass in April and my bmi is 30-31. This was recommended by my doctor due to my GERD. You can maintain your weight until then by eating healthy, high protein shakes and lifting weights. This will help maintain muscle mass that you will need while you lose the weight. The rude and inappropriate comments by the jerks were unnecessary and clearly were spoken without thinking. You’ve done nothing wrong and don’t let them believe that for a second. Anyone can lose weight as evidenced by a mandatory liquid pre-op diet (to shrink the liver), but not anyone can maintain it without surgery. This surgery aids not only in long-term reduction from obesity, but long-term reduction in the health complications that come from it. It’s also better for your metabolism and lean muscle mass to have a long-term solution. I’ve watched many of my patients die from obesity. Do what is right for you and your family per your doctor’s recommendations.

    Self pay questions

I’m signed up for gastric bypass in Tijuana and it’s $5800 for self pay plus $400 flight. It starts around $15k where I live in the US and insurance won’t cover it so to Mexico I go…
  17. Agree. It's truly ridiculous that the MGB/OAGB isn't considered a standard procedure in America. It's simpler, more effective, and has fewer side effects than most alternatives. It can be easily revised or reversed. People have a chance of keeping the weight off (no guarantees, of course).

Anyone have LapBand to DS revision?

I had a lapband placed in 2013 and it was removed April 2021 due to GERD. I'm in the process of revising to RNY. My surgeon won't perform DS on anyone unless they have really bad diabetes. So it was never an option for me. I never made it to goal weight with the lap band. From what I've read, most don't. So I'm hoping to cure the GERD and lose a little more weight after RNY. Best wishes on your Lap band removal and DS surgeries!
  19. I think it's root is 'Distal' so making the existing bypass more distal, more intestines bypassed. Good luck, Tek ETA: Revision of Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass with Limb Distalization ...
  20. I'm just curious - can I ask what: Revision... distillization of rny is?
  21. I didn't have a revision, but when I was doing the research on my surgery I ran across a few peoples posts about how they revised to the DS and their weight loss. I remember one lady was in the 350's prior to her original surgery (gastric bypass) and got down to the 190's but then gained all her weight back and so had a revision to the DS and went from the 350's down to the 180's (she got to 170's after skin removal). I was actually considering the gastric bypass surgery at the time and I just kept thinking 'what if it fails' I didn't want to go through another surgery so I chose the Loop DS as my main surgery and it's worked great for me so far. I figure by the revision comments that I had stumbled on in my research before my surgery choice that your weight loss will probably be about the same, maybe slightly less than it would be with a fresh surgery but you'll probably still likely lose 70+% of excess weight. Just might be a tiny bit slower than a first time surgery.
  22. This past Tuesday I had my revision, sleeve to bypass. During the leak test we discovered I have very slow motility of my esophagus. My surgeon thinks this will correct itself as things from my revision heals.
  23. So, I am scheduled for my rny revision on March 21st. Had my pre-op today. It's going to be out patient, a simpler procedure than my original bypass. Still have to do the modified liquid diet pre-op for 14 days: 2 meals protein drinks, 1 light meal (3 oz lean meat, 1 cup veggies) or another protein drink. Have to get pre-op testing... bloodwork and an ekg. I'm excited and ready for the 21st to be here! I quit smoking two weeks ago as part of my surgeons requirements. I am making the changes needed to make the most of this. I know weight loss will be slower, but I'm also in a better place to stick to the plan. My revision is not due to regain, just a boost to get to goal and to help with digestive and slow motility issues. Original surgery was over 21 years ago,I starting weight was 475. I lost 100lbs down to 275 gained some weight when I got pregnant but then lost that regain, and kept it off. Last 17 years I've bounced between 245 and 275. Due to medical/digestive issues, I go through periods where I can barely eat and then go back to maintenance diet. This surgery is not only to help me get to a goal of 175ish but also to help settle the digestive issues. Any other revisions going on this month?

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

Pre-op appointment today. 2 week pre-op diet starts Monday. I've got to get some blood work and an ekg. My surgery is a revision. Distillation of my gastric bypass. It is out patient, I'll be home same day. They aren't doing anything with my pouch which is why it's out patient. I'm excited for the 21st to get here.
  25. Just looking for anyone with experience going through this. Did it work? I'm 5'6 350lbs. LapBand 2009. Started at 300, lowest weight was 230 after LB. Need to lose the weight ASAP to get double knee replacement. I was looking to have LapBand revision to bypass, but surgeon said metabolism slows down after first surgery. And I need all the help I can get to lose some major weight. So he suggested and I agreed to the DS. Starting pre-op diet in 2 days for LapBand removal in a month. My liver is huge. DS should be 3 months later, if all goes well. Any journeys would be great to hear about 🙂
