  1. That's great! It WILL be the beginning of your new life! I started at 349 with a BMI of 54 or 55. I did have to do 2 full weeks of liquid diet, but you know what? It's worth the inconvenience. The point of it is to rapidly shrink the liver so it does not get in the way or get damaged by the surgery. If it is not sufficiently smaller, they will just cancel the surgery, or open you up with a full incision. Neither choice is a pleasant thought. It is hard to do for 2 weeks, but keep your eyes on the prize and you will sail through! We're here for you too!
  2. My Dr. gave me a bible... it has every day instructions.. what you can have.. from day 1 through 21.. My nutritionist also gave me some good ideas on protein drinks, different things like good crystal lite and Wyler's products.. etc. I would call them and ask. First week is the toughest.. It will get better
  3. I don't know what is happening.i had my first fill two weeks ago and I have been traveling every day since.then. The pain from my port is moderately bad. The pain in my chest is slightly painful. Only after I eat though. My port bothers me almost all the time. Can anyone help me?

    Incisions

Mine only hurt when I twisted wrong or laid on the wrong. The pain ended at about 2-3weeks, and at about 6 weeks I couldn't even feel it anymore.

    Sooo disappointed!!

Hey darlin'! Just hang in there! After my surgery, I was still in some pain up until 2 weeks after. Remember to take it easy and don't do too much bending or lifting. I promise, if you're careful, it gets better! (BTW - We are sooooooo getting together when you're on mushies and gabbing. I can't wait to see you and hear all about your surgery! I'm so proud of my J! )

    Full later?

I had the same problem again today, but not as bad. I even had a hard boiled egg for dinner almost 3 hours ago and didn't feel this full until about an hour after dinner. Jalomum, I had one fill about 6 weeks ago, of 2 cc's in my 10 cc band. That is the only fill I've had. I haven't had a problem with any food getting stuck or anything, so I hadn't thought it would come up now. Thanks for your advice. It was nice to eat some carbs, but it looks like I'll have to go back to a more Protein focused diet.

    Stitches......

I had a couple that poked out. However, as a medical professional, I know that the skin has mostly healed 2 weeks post op. So, I gently tugged on the sutures that were poking out and they came away easily. It looks gross, but you don't really feel anything. If you gently tug and they do NOT come away easily, then cover them with a band-aid until you see your doc again and let him take care of them. The only thing covering them with band-aids does is keep them from catching on things and driving you nuts. Also ... change the band-aids daily so that you don't create an issue for yourself with yucky band-aids.
  9. I'm feeling like I can eat way to much! ;( and I haven't lost in two weeks!! And can't have my first full until sept 6th..my surgery was July 5th isn't that too long to wait for a fill??

    Not feeling restricted

I was banded July 22. Today seen my surgeon for the 2 week check up. He said I'd gain few pounds before my first fill an that was ok. I get my fill in 3 weeks. Would had been 2 weeks but he is gonna be out of town. E told me it take a few fills to her where I need to be. He also has a band so that helps. He understands what we go threw.

    Heart Palpitations

Hi Jodi I am three months out, I get real bad heart palpitations. Like you my cardiologist has run all sorts of tests. The heart and arteries appear all normal. My dr said prior to my surgery that the palpitations should stop or decrease after I start to lose weight . Unfortunately that has not been the case for me . I have lost 30 kg to date but heart pal show no sign of improvement. I am so depressed and fearful because heart disease runs in the family. Yet my beautiful cardiologist is bending over backwards to help me. I adore the man I just wish the pal will stop.

    G2?

You can definitely drink G2. I'm 10 weeks post op and continue drinking it throughout the day along with protein shakes and water. It all depends how my day is going. I also drink the powerade zero.
  15. I am almost 2 months post op. I have been back at work for two weeks but for some reason I don't have enough energy to work out after work. Did anyone else had this experience and if so how did you get past it?

    Gahhhhh

Any time my weight changes upward on the scale less than 3 pounds I just tell myself "That is just Water weight" and go on. Salt, extra exercise, time of month, sickness, all cause water retention. If you are eating 1000 calories a day it is physically impossible to gain 2.8 pounds of fat in a week, you would have to eat 9800 calories more than you burned, and you only ate 7700 calories so its mathematically impossible. Dismiss it and go on. The good news is when I gain a couple pounds of water weight, when it went away it usually took a couple of pounds with it, kind of a cell flushing thing. I hope it works like that for you too.

    Gahhhhh

SO...last week, I posted that I was down 20lbs since August 1st. I was SOOO excited! I had hit a small goal of mine...and was TOTALLY pumped. I also made it back to the gym for a Zumba class, totally kept up, and felt great afterwards. On Tuesday afternoon, I ended up with a wicked sore throat.....which stayed until Thursday morning....which turned into a chest cold. I've been coughing, coughing, and coughing some more....and definitely feeling generally awful. I didn't go back to the gym....and today was feeling a little bit under the weather, but was going to brave it anyway! The class ended up being cancelled...and I didn't have my ipod, so I didn't want to go on the machine (that is my idea of torture! 30 min on the elipical with nothing to entertain me! ugh!). Anyhow...I hopped on the scale and have somehow gained 2.8lbs this week. NOW...I know I was just banded on the 10th...and these are supposed to be healing weeks...but I'm eating average calorie intake about 1075/day (that was a 6 day average). I'm eating mainly Proteins...I'm getting around 74 grams of Protein daily. I'm not sure why I'm gaining?? Is this normal???? I feel like I'm failing...just like I've done over and over again in the past. Gosh, I was on such a mental high last week....It's SO amazing how I can go from one state to another in a matter of 7 days. I just felt like I was doing everything right! Any ideas??

    Honey!

I found that in the beginning that if something bothered me, I gave it up and tried it again a couple of weeks later.

  20. Hi, congratulations on making a decision to have weight loss surgery. When you meet with your doctor, they will examine you and ask you what surgery you are thinking about and then give you their opinion of what surgery they believe is the best surgery for you. I am a revision patient from a lap band to the sleeve. I had my band in July '07. At that time the band was the only surgery I qualified for at a BMI of 35. By lap band standards I was a success because I lost 50% of my excess weight loss. I never found the "sweet spot". I wound up having my band overfilled to get restriction. In the beginning my doctor did not have the equipment to do fluoroscopy to see if it was too tight. This resulted in me throwing up a lot due to tightness. I also started to eat more slider foods, which don't fill you up, because I knew I could tolerate them. I then began to have major heartburn and was on prescription medicines for them for over three years. I was in graduate school and working full time so didn't have time to give this the attention it needed. When I saw my lapband doctor, he told me that my band was in the proper position etc. Earlier this year, I asked him about a different surgery, and he referred me to my sleeve surgeon. My sleeve surgeon performed an EGD and found my band had prolapsed. Additional tests revealed it was causing problems with how my esophagus was functioning. Since I have had my sleeve. I have had no heartburn. I am 7 weeks out from having my band removed and the sleeve performed. I feel so much better now. I have not thrown up since my surgery and have not encountered any food which I am allowed that has not agreed with me.

Stocking My House And The Perfect Diet

Welcome!! I had SF popsicles, SF Jello, FUZE Slenderize drinks, Crystal Light, Propel Zero Water, chicken/beef broth, New whey Protein shots (42g each)and Protein powder for shakes. I was on a 21 day clear liquid diet after surgery (except he allowed Protein Shakes after 1st week) so I had everything I needed. If you are allowed soft or pureed foods in week 2 pickup some Greek yogurts, cottage cheese, cream Soups, etc. Don't overstock on the stuff though because in the beginning you won't be able to eat much anyway. Can't help you much on the 100 lb loss yet. I am more or less following Stage 2/3 of the Atkins plan. It has been working for me. Mostly protein first is the key, so we stay full longer and don't lose muscle mass as we lose weight. I took off 6 weeks, which is more time then most people because I had short term disability at work so I was able to heal completely, both mentally and physically before I returned. My mind was a fog for the first few weeks after surgery due to not having much food intake and it was great to have a eating/drinking schedule established before returning to the work place. Good luck and congrats on your surgery!
  22. I was released for alcohol at 3ish months. Doc warned me it's wasted calories so just don't go overboard. I drank Riesling the first time, and it hit me kinda hard and fast, but wore off pretty fast as well. I drink socially now, and have a glass of wine once maybe twice a week. I've tried margarita, and they didn't settle well. But, mixed drinks, rum/coke, and various shots work just fine. My tolerance is like it was pre-op, it doesn't hit me hard and fast, and I can maintain a decent buzz. I don't drink a lot, but when I do, the big plus is that I rarely get a hangover anymore.

    port flip?

i been banded in july and i went into for my third fill about 3 weeks ago and the doctor couldnt get to my port had my xray done and everything looked good so i went back this monday and he still couldnt get to my port which means that my port flipped he wants me to have surgery to correct this but im not sure if i can? im looking for people out there that as had surgery because of a port flipped and need to know how hard is it really to your body. my doctor is around 4 hours away so if i do this which supposely takes a morning for everything then i would have to drive back home which is about a 4 hour drive maybe 5 depending on the traffic. i have two kids a 3 year old and a 5 year old and i would leave them with my mother when i do this but i will need to pick them up after the surgery and drive home. my doctor dont feel comfortable with me driving home so advise me to get someone to come with me. but sadly i havent told anyone about this surgery i did and that asking them to drive me 4 or 5 hours each way to do this is just not reasonable. my husband is currently in iraq so he is not an option either. so i guess what im looking for is, is it possible to be able to drive home after surgery and will i be able to take care of my kids afterwards? the doctor says its an easy procedure but the more i think about it the more im thinking about not doing it. my kids come first and if i have to stop my weight loss then i guess then that will have to do.

    Back Pain

I have read that back pain could be a sign of a leak. My question is - What type of pain. Both the left and right sides of my back have been aching for a few weeks, It feels as though it's a muscular issue & not actual internal pain. I had my friend try to rub on each side & it was too painful - She told me she had not even rubbed my back yet, only applied light pressure with her hands. I'm thinking it could possibly be the way I'm sleeping ? anyway, did any of you have this ? (It's def not my kidneys)
  25. Just last week I turned the as people would say the Big "50".... But I decided to call it FABIOUS "50" Because I'm not big anymore!!! Loving life
