Quick FAQs - Can I eat ____ After (VSG) Weight Loss Surgery
joatsaint posted a blog entry in Gastric Sleeve Surgery - An Unexpected Journey
Can I eat (insert food here) after Vertical Sleeve Gastrectomy WLS surgery? The answer is... most likely. It's really going to depend on the person and how you have healed. I have not found any food that I could not eat, once I was back on full foods post-op. Surprisingly, the processed foods/snack foods/fast food was the easiest to digest. It was the healthy foods - boneless skinless chicken breasts, broccoli, cauliflower, lettuce, pineapple, apples and grapes that gave me trouble up until about the 6 month mark. At 9 months post-op, I can eat anything I want with only the occasional stomach growl. The best NSV post-op is that I have not wanted all those processed/fast foods that I craved pre-surgery. I can honestly say that I don't even think about going out for pizza or hamburgers any more. So if you're worried about not being able to eat your favorite foods post-op, you may come to realize that post-op you don't WANT to eat them ever again. :-) -
I went with my mom and sister to a musical tonight and the parking garage elevator was packed after the show. So I decided to take the stairs 6 flights up instead with my mom. Last year, before surgery, we did the same thing and she left me puffing on the stairs a full flight behind her. THIS time, I was a full flight ahead of her, with her puffing behind me. I tell ya, that felt awesome- even though she's 65 with arthritis cancer and Chrohn's disease and premature senility. Lol. (My mom wanted me to add this. ... She's still really fit for 65 though!

Does anyone miss being overweight?
Disabledaccount replied to Disabledaccount's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I love hearing from post-op folks. At the pre-op you keep second guessing yourself and wondering if VSG is really necessary. It's different for folks that have never been thin, I mean if I hated being overweight why did i put up with it for us long? I loathe everything about being fat but I do enjoy food. My post-op NSV other than the great things that come with losing weight would be eating to live and not craving food all the time. -
I have been doing yoga for about 20 years, and finally started in a studio after surgery. I start working there SUNDAY! if all goes well, and I decide I like it, I will begin Yoga Instructor training in the summer. Cannot sit still. So excited! :D

Silly NSV but I had to go to the hospital for some tests and after I was done I was able to slip the plastic ID bracelet off w/o cutting it off with scissors :-) I have never been able to do that before. DOS:358 CW:270 SD:1/28/13

What kind of nsv is this?
Madam Reverie replied to aliekat55's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
When you said 'fell into bed for a nap and clearly there was something poking me in the belly/chest.' My first thought was 'crikey, her husband is a bit forward, isn't he?!' Clearly I need to seek therapy... Congrats on your NSV though. It's awesome -
NSV = Non-Scale Victory congrats, Teeny!

Okay...may be a stupid question, but what does NSV stand for?
-
Nice! Beautiful rings that you should be proud to wear. That's an awesome NSV!

I got home from work yesterday absolutely exhausted, fell into bed for a nap and clearly there was something poking me in the belly/chest. i roll over to remove whatever it is and there is nothing there. WTF? clearly something is poking me there! finally figure out it is my rib cage protruding out. how do i fix that? does this go away? fortunately it only happens on the right side as it sticks out slightly more than the left. I suppose i am happy about it. going along with this, sleeping on my side has become increasingly difficult because my legs have become so bony that they don't easily lie on each other without a presure point. I will adjust, but i did not expect this.

Looking good! NSV are greatest! Love shopping NSV's!

I used to dread going shopping. I hated how I looked in the mirror. Let's just say 3-4 months ago I was wearing a size 24/26 . I wanted to buy these fitted straight leg pants . I picked up a size 18 and they slid right on. Bit guess what, they were a lil too big. Guess what size I bought. A size 16!!!!!! Unbelievable. And to think in the next 4 weeks I will be in a 14. It's moments like this that keeps me waking up at 5 am working out. I'm so proud and grateful!!! 100lbs here I come... 50lbs down, 50 more to go'

As I was sitting in my chair at work today, I noticed something felt weird about my tummy. It just didn't feel right when I sat. Then I realized it's because my tummy now curves INWARD when I sit, and no longer pooches over my thighs in a lovely half moon. haha

Fitting into smaller sizes is a fantastic NSV, really shows you are shrinking. To have fun shopping instead of dreading how you will find anything that fits is awesome. Keep up the good work!

You look great! This is a great NSV!

I have kind of an embarrassing NSV to share. I've lost about 44 pounds this year and about 16 since surgery 8/14. Had my first fill yesterday. I finally weigh less than my husband again. He's been eating healthy and working out as well.

Ok so I'm so close to Onederland that it is killing me. I am a frequent weigher, I weigh everyday that's just something that I do. So I thought that instead of obsessing over that 1 stinking lb, I could make a list of NSV's that I'm happy about, maybe that would make me feel better. So, here it goes: 1. I can fit in the booths at the diner that we go to, no more taking the table just because I could'nt breath in the booths. 2.I can slide the seat in the car all the way up and everything fits just fine. yeah! 3. I can fit in the smallest size hand-me-down clothes that my sis gave me when she lost weight. 4.Now everyone at work is starting to tell me that I look good, have lost a lot of weight. 5. I can wear my grandmother's heirloom ring, it fits me now. 6. I can wear necklaces again and not look like a walrus in a tie! 7. I actually have a neck now, it's amazing. 8. I tried on coats in Wallyworld in the regular size dept, and they fit! 9. I walked around the fair for 6 hours, was not out of breath, didn't have to sit down every 10 minutes and my feet didn't hurt. 10. My singing has improved, I can hold a note a lot longer than I could before, I guess my lungs needed the room to expand that the fat was taking up. Woo-hoo, I am feeling good, OK you 1 stinking lb, you are going to be history!!!!
