So, out of surgery, they gave me Dilaudid. Second day in hospital was Toridol. I was sent home with Oxycodone. They said the oxy was for the nerve pain. I was also told to take 1000mg of Tylenol every 4-6 hours and not to miss a dose, let it build up. The Tylenol was for the muscle cramps and pressure. There is regular liquid Tylenol you may want to try. I was off the Oxy quick as I had no incision pain and didn’t want to get constipated as narcotics slow your digestion. I kept up with the Tylenol for a few more days until pressure subsided. By day 3-4, on nothing for pain. The gas-x I still take as the broths, protein shakes, etc can give gas. I take one in both am and pm. They also recommended Colace to keep stool soft.

Surgery 22 Feb. I had a liver laceration so had to be opened up. And ended up having 3 surgeries in 24 hours. Really struggling post. Have lost weight and am struggling to get daily water, protein, calories in. Anyone else had complications? I know it’s rare but just trying to connect with someone as it’s been hard. Good luck to everyone 😀

Pancreas problems
Arabesque replied to oldandtired's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is interesting (though I’m sure not for you). Out of curiosity did they say if this is a temporary or permanent issue? Wondering if it is similar to how other hormones & enzymes can go crazy while we are losing but settle again (often at a better level) once our weight stabilises. How are they treating you? Since my gall removal I don’t absorb protein well so I take creons which are a pancreatic enzymes which can firm bowel movements up for some. Wonder if they would help you too? Sorry for the questions. -
Milk is better, unless it becomes too rich, to make yoghurt into a yoghurt drink. Plus extra protein from the milk. Bonus!

It can be hard at first to hit those goals. Your poor tummy is super sensitive, your taste buds may have changed (temporary) & you’re likely not hungry or interested in eating. As long as you’re close & working towards your goals it’s okay. Don’t forget your shakes & broths count as fluids too. Shakes usually are 20-30g of protein depending on the brand. Sip them just like you do your other fluids - doesn’t matter if it takes an hour or more to drink your shake. I used to add twice the water to the mix to dilute the flavour & texture of the shake & to get down more fluids. It would take me a couple of hours to drink one but it was 1/4 of my fluid & a good 1/3 of my protein goals. You’ll get there.

PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
maintenanceman replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Quest Bars are the best for me. 20 g of protein, almost half daily allowance of fiber, 180-190 calories, not a lot of crazy ingredients. And they taste great. I usually have one a day. Look at labels carefully because many/most protein bars are basically candy... not a lot of protein, loads of calories/fat. -
I've never liquified it, never occured to me, and I've never seen where we need to?. I have just eaten it as is (I am 12 days Post Op) It's a little variety from another Protein shake!

The pancreas produces other enzymes besides insulin; for example, trypsin and chymotrypsin to digest proteins; amylase to digest carbohydrates; and lipase to break down fats. So it is possible for some types of cells in the pancreas to function correctly and others not.

I just had my surgery Friday, and honestly I’m still working on getting in my fluids, and barely am hitting 40oz still… protein is no where near where it needs to be, but i can only focus on one goal at a time right now. Once I can hit fluid goal, i will worry about proteins. I couldn’t even keep my antibiotics down the first three days, so i will pick my battles at this point.

Feel Like Progressing Backwards 1 Month Post Op

Good!!! I'm really glad you're doing well. I was getting concerned reading through this post, but I'm glad you're able to get protein in a lot more now. -
Make sure you stick to your plan religiously, stay away from the scale for a while, and exercise as normal. Make sure you're getting enough water and protein. The stall will eventually break. It's all part of the process.

My first two weeks I dropped a lot of weight about 21 lbs but I am on the fourth week and have been stuck at about 203. I was at 201 at the end of the first two weeks then I went up two lbs. I am getting frustrated because I am exercising, hitting my protein goals/liquid goals and I am not getting above 500 calories a day. I just feel like crying (I have been crying) and feel like maybe having PCOS that this weight is still not gonna come off even with this surgery. It sucks to not be able eat most things and go through this to just be stuck like this. Even if I could just get to 199 within a week I would be happy but I see the scale is going up little by little. Everyone keeps saying trust the process but I just can't right now. Is the second time around ever more successful and why?
ShoppGirl replied to ShoppGirl's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
So I don’t think phentermine is working perfectly for me. It doesn’t give me energy at all. I actually took a nap yesterday on it and I am doubting its power to control cravings. I have to admit I am celebrating a belated bday because my husband was in hospital during mine and I have had two bday lunches where I was able to skip the bread and substitute salad with my protein so that’s better but I am still hungry at night which is my biggest problem I think. I am supposed to try this for a month and check back in but I see my family dr today who has also been trying to help with my weight so I am hoping maybe she can adjust the dose at least today while I am there. Fingers crossed that one of these meds helps me. -
I would suggest milk or a protein shake.

November 2022 Surgery Buddies

Hello!! I finally got to starting my exercise routine and boy does everything hurt 😂 I'm back on track with my fluids and protein. I'm sort of meal prepping since I'm an accountant and have tax deadlines this week and want to make sure I do not skip meals. I had a doctor's appointment yesterday with my primary, my BP is down a lot, she still doesn't want to remove the pills but agreed that I can take half if my BP is above a certain number in the afternoon, and in 3 months we can see about taking it a couple times a week until I reach goal to remove, she will feel comfortable if I was in the 150s, a little less than goal but maybe it is possible who knows. Hope everyone is doing well and everyday closer to your goal! -
How are you doing? Have you tried the unflavored protein from Isopure? I sometimes add that to the prepared protein shake to double the protein and have to drink less of it.

High Protein Alternatives - Cereal, Chips, etc.
BrigitteLM replied to BrigitteLM's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Now I have my eye on protein I also don’t find it hard to hit 90g of protein in a day but I’m pre-op and nearly there to the other side.!!!! @kcuster83 - love the mentality of not feeling like you’re on a forever diet! Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the different alternative foods and love that many are seeking whole nutritious foods after or just other food in moderation vs targeting specifically these “synthetically” protein rich foods. It’s definitely food for thought!! 😜 -
PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN
Arabesque replied to heatherdbby's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
They were a no for me too while I was losing. (I’m another whole food person.) So many protein bars are really just candy bars. Does your team recommend a specific brand? Maybe the require only half a bar as a portion size consideration & therefore calories, carbs, etc. When I reached maintenance I used to use them as an emergency snack - popped one in my bag on a busy or active day or would have one if I was having a day I was a bit low on protein & calories. And yes I’d eat a whole one if I was able. When my protein absorption issue was picked up almost two years ago, I started to have a whole bar every night after dinner to ensure I reached my higher protein goal. I’ve found lately, I’m eating only half or 3/4 of a bar. I just twist the packet & finish it the next night. I keep them in the fridge. I find them less gummy & gluey & more tolerable that way. -
PROTIEN BARS AND YOUR PLAN

I don't have that restriction, but my nutritionist is a big "whole food" person. I was supposed to start weaning off the protein shakes, as soon as I started purees. -
I've only eaten one single protein bar since surgery and that was a Built Puff bar - I don't recall which flavor it was. Before surgery, my favorite brand was Quest.

What do you put in your coffee?
busymamasews replied to kla7403's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I use premade protein shakes as creamer in hot coffee. In cold brew I use sugar free syrups and almond milk. Really the only change from pre surgery is the shakes vs creamer in hot coffee. I need the extra protein most days, so it works for me. -
What do you put in your coffee?
liveaboard15 replied to kla7403's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
i drank premier protein café flavor for the first couple months. After that I started drinking regular coffee. I use sugar free creamer and Stevia sugar sweetener. I have a couple cups a day. -
Jordan's Skinny Syrups are really good and have a wide variety of flavors for coffee and other drinks as well. In my opinion, they are much better than all the others I have tried. Zero cal, zero sugar, zero protein for 2 tablespoons. I bought mine at TJ Maxx. You can get them on Amazon but are considerable higher in price than TJ Maxx. I have tried about 8 flavors, my favorite is Vanilla Caramel Creme. Actually tastes like it has creamer in your coffee. Word of caution: Jordan's Skinny Syrups are quite strong with flavor and sweetener. Start with a small amount, a teaspoon at a time, until you determine how much you want. A little goes a long way.

What do you put in your coffee?
summerseeker replied to kla7403's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
If I am lacking protein, I will make a strong expresso and add skimmed milk like a latte I suppose. Thankfully coffee has never been vetoed for me
