    Before and After Pics

I am 4 months post op gastric bypass and I don’t recognize myself I can’t believe I’ve lost 85lbs this surgery has saved my life and even through the ups and downs I wouldn’t change it for anything
  2. I don't know about revisions, but at my clinic, they had the sleevers and the bypassers on the same eating plan.
  3. Initially I was given the water goal of 1200ml/40oz per day, which I had no trouble drinking. Slow going for sure, but totally doable, as water travels pretty quickly through the bypass. I've had a slow but steady water increase and can now do 1500ml per day at least. Some do struggle with the water however; there's no universal experience after a bypass so it can swing either way. I was fortunate that liquids haven't been an issue. My post surgery diet was 1 week liquid only, then pureed stage for 4 weeks, then soft-food stage for another 4 which I'm still currently on. I'm able to eat some raw veg, though, however I make sure to chew it into pulp. It's pretty evident pretty quickly when you've eaten something you're not really ready for. AND if you drink water too quickly - found that one out last night and won't be doing that again! Diets vary depending on the surgeon though. Has your dietician gone over it with you?
  4. I'm going in next Wednesday for revision from sleeve to bypass, very excited to start this journey again! For those who went through this already, I was curious about eating/drinking after the surgery. After my sleeve, they had me eating real food the next day, starting with eggs for Breakfast and then for other meals chicken salad, egg salad, tuna salad, blended very smooth. I was able to take in about 4-6 oz per meal with no problem, also got my liquids and Protein in. I know that the bypass pouch is significantly smaller than the sleeve, so I was wondering what the diet is like after surgery. I know they want us to drink 64 oz of Water a day, but is that even possible with such a small pouch? Thanks!

  6. So bypass got rid of my heartburn it wasn't until recently that it returned.
  7. Hello Beautiful People, Gastric Bypass is definitely a go for November 23, 2021. I have purchased some meal replacement shakes and supplements from bariatric fusion, but I recently came across bariatric advantage. Has anyone had experience with both brands???? Which do you prefer???? Or does it no really make a difference???? Thank you in advance!!!! 💛💛💛💛

    Any December 2021 bypass people?

Hi! December 6th here, this has been a crazy long process for me, and I was afraid it wouldn't happen this year, but I'm slipping in under the wire, lol. I have been considering this surgery for over 10 years, finally got to a point where I am ready and sure of my decision (no easy feat for an indecisive and anxious person like myself), and have been seeing my PCP for a year and a half in preparation for this (insurance requires 6 months, but because of CVD it was hard to get appointments sometimes, so it stretched things out). I finally got the go-ahead from my surgeon and insurance company in the end of August, but was told they were canceling all elective surgeries in my region and they were booking out into mid-November, so I thought there is no way they are going to get me in before the end of the year with all of the cancellations, rescheduling, and not actually knowing when surgeries can be booked again, and I met my deductible this year. That mean that if I don't get the surgery done this year, it will cost me thousands more out of pocket, and at that point, I was giving up and going to Mexico. Well, surgery is in 25 days, and I am 5 days into my prescribed preop diet (which I despise, I have texture sensitivity issues and protein shakes are ick), and I was petrified. I am doing well so far, not as bad as I thought, I am allotted 5 Optifast shakes (can sub one of those for a bar or soup daily) and one food meal with 1/2 c. lean protein, 1-2 c. non-starchy vegetables, 1 tsp fat, and one serving of fruit, with unlimited (but reasonable amounts, the calories do still add up) sugar-free popsicles, dill pickles, cucumbers, and celery, no dairy, vinegars and mustard allowed, salt-free seasonings as well. It really hasn't been so bad, but I prefer volume at this stage, so raw veggies are my daily food meal, but I miss something warm and comforting in the chilly weather. I find that I'm not even craving junk food, like, a bowl of garlicky black or pinto beans would be so good right now, lol, but no starches, so no beans. Anyhow, those are my thoughts, if anyone cares to share as well. HW: 400+ (no scale at that time, highest measured weight was 399) SW: 384 CW: 338 GW: Healthy and active
  9. That is odd! I am having revision to bypass to alleviate my severe GERD so this doesn't make me feel entirely too good! I hope you find answers with you endo/contact with your surgeon, good luck!

    I need guidance

First of all, I just want to say I'm sorry you're struggling and I hope you know you're not alone. The last 2 years have been brutal for a lot of us and there is no shame in any if it. That being said, before you move on to revision/bypass, have you reached out to your surgery center and/or dietitian? They should be able to offer some guidance on how to get back on track. Most suggest going back to the basics: weigh and track everything, prioritize protein, get your fluids in, move your body everyday, etc. If they aren't helpful or available to you, maybe ask your PCP for a referral to an RD? Sometimes we just need someone to point us in the right direction. Also, have you gotten support for your mental health & wellbeing? Making sure you've dealt with the junk internally is SO important. If not, that might be a really good place to start. A few sessions of therapy can go a LONG way. Maybe do some reading on emotional eating or whatever patterns you find yourself falling into. Knowledge is power! Revision is always an option, and there is absolutely no shame in pursuing it. But it's not the only option. You already have the tools, maybe you could benefit from some guidance in how to start using them again? Whatever you decide, we wish you the best! Sent from my SM-A205U using BariatricPal mobile app
  12. Hey all! I’m 5 weeks post op and have been doing great, but I got my teeth cleaned yesterday and haven’t been feeling well since. Usually the dentist is an easy thing for me but this time my body aches and my digestive system is definitely unhappy. My pre-op info did not say anything about the dentist. Has anyone else had experiences like this? Did your info have a timeline for dental cleanings? Thanks, Breanne
  13. I received gastric sleeve in 2019 and was doing really well until covid hit. I lost my job and staying home when it first hit really made me depressed. Now I cant lose any weight i just keep gaining and gaining. Im trying to get some advice on if i should get revision surgery or bypass.
  14. that's odd - normally bypass improves it (if you had it before) if not totally cures it. It's not that it couldn't happen but....certainly not a common thing. I wonder if it's something like a hernia (??). It's good they're doing the endoscopy - then you'll know for sure. Sorry you're going through this!
  15. Hi all I had my bypass in February and all the sudden i have been dealing with horrible burning in my throat and chest. I've been taking Omeprazole 20mg twice a day and even tried adding in a pepcid complete but I'm still suffering. I also sleep elevated. I'm wondering if anyone has dealt with this. I need to have a endoscopy done.
  16. Depending on what food you mean, and what procedure you're having, a lot of food that got us all obese in the first place isn't on the post-op plan (for good reason). Some people who are in maintenance are able to pretty much eat normally (though still a balanced diet), but bypass and SADI folks especially need to be mindful of making nutritious choices due to the malabsorption factor. High carb, high sugar and high fat foods can also bring on dumping syndrome. Thankfully the surgery really helps a lot of folks with reigning in cravings, and bad food loses most of its allure. As for coffee, I was offered it in the hospital along with my water and broth, whereas others are told never-ever. So it seems to depend on your surgeon's team. Hopefully someone with experience with emotional eating issues can help you out there, and I'm sorry for your trauma. That's rough.

    Week 10 Post Op

I’m 5 weeks post op from lap band conversion to gastric bypass and my hunger has already returned. I wish it hadn’t. I can eat without problems. I haven’t had any dumping problems. Is it weird that I wished I had dumping so it might deter me from eating. I’m good with my portions but I feel like I get hungry too soon. I get my water, protein and vitamins like I’m supposed to. Just thought I’d have more problems with eating. Maybe because my stomach wasn’t a virgin stomach. I had the lap band for 11 years. Who knows.

    Bariatric Abdominal Binder

I had Nasir trauma surgery in 2013 car accident I'm getting bypass 11/30. I will be having 2 Hernias removed as well. A binder has already been discussed by my doctor due to my individual case. It doesn't hurt to ask. Sent from my SM-A125U using BariatricPal mobile app

  21. Me! I’m having surgery Dec 3 in Atlanta. I had lapband in 2010, lost 90 lbs. It slipped and almost killed me in 2014. Had revision to VSG in 2014 and now revision to bypass bc of severe GERD. Have Grade D esophagitis and been on protonix for years. Can’t wait to not have GERD anymore. Have gained about 10 lbs since 2014 and my weight right now is 154. Hoping to get down to 130’s. We will see if that happens!
  22. Hey there! I’m scheduled for bypass on Dec. 1. (Originally set for September 15, but the hospital cancelled all elective surgeries because of Covid-related capacity issues, but they’re back on track now.) I toggle between being excited, impatient, anxious, and downright terrified. 😬 Starting pre-op diet next Monday (right in time for Thanksgiving, wooooo), so right now I’m kind of in a “farewell to food” spell. Today’s farewell involved pad thai. Alas.
  23. I am actually a certified vegan nutritionist - was vegan all my life until I met my hubby! He’s a meat and potatoes guy part of my now weight issues. I found a lady on YouTube who had gastric bypass several years ago and she is vegan. She has great stuff on there - I don’t remember her channel but found her when searching bypass sleeve blogs and she popped up. She is older. If I find her I’ll post it But Warrior brand Protein Powder is Vegan and I love it. I’ve used it for years. I get my sleeve in December so I haven’t tried anything post op but there are a lot of choices for you! Oh just wanted to add - hummus!
