Airstream88 replied to Abrandnewlife's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have BC/BS and I am doing my 6 monthly weigh-in appointments with my NUT. It's an hour class with others pursuing WLS. -

Damn it so freaking hard. Like its a struggle. But I/we have to think about the light at the end of the tunnel and stay positive Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

I'm going for my consultation and I have BS of CA, but they said that since I live in Arizona and they surgery will be in Arizona, I need to follow the BCBS of AZ requirements! (?) I'm super nervous about this Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

@@kmorri -- I will add you as a friend. The only person who will be screaming louder than you when a date has been set is me. So very impatient...and this process has definitely been a difficult one! I, too, make up my mind and then dive right in, however, I do take a VERY long time to make up my mind. I am fickle and I know it! I am looking forward to having pals on this journey bc I don't plan on telling people about the surgery except my husband who is not being particularly supportive. He thinks I should "just go to the gym"....gotta love these guys (or gals) who say stuff like this. They really believe that we can JUST do this with such ease--that it is nothing!

Sorry this is long, but I'm concerned.I had my very first consult with surgeon 2 days ago. We are approximately 4 months from surgery. I have been placed on a 3 month pre surgery diet. Of course when we get down to the last 2 weeks I will go the liquid route. My concern today, is this: I am T2 diabetic. I am drinking a Protein shake for Breakfast and then following meal guidelines the rest of the day. I began my day with a fasting blood sugar of 250. Took my insulin and other meds as prescribed. Drank my shake. 2 hours later I checked bs, it was down to 230, no insulin taken at this time. At lunch, 1.5 hours later.....it was 187. Took my sliding scale with lunch. 2.5 hours later checked bs, it was 56!!! I ate some fruit and a yogurt. checked it 2 hours later it was 67. ate dinner. Went to bed 4 hours later. When I got up this morning 175. I drank my shake and took my morning meds, took bs 2 hours later, 285!!! WTH? I am all over the map!! Has anyone else experience this? Should I hang in there, call surgeons office or call my endo?

I was always a big meat eater, and I'm about four months out from surgery. My tastes are changing quite significantly. Not only am I highly concerned about where my meat products come from, but more and more I feel disgusted by them. It is not a moral decision: I'm not going to eat meat because blah blah blah, bought an intuitive body response telling me that I don't need to eat very much of it anymore, and what little I do we absolutely must be organic and grass fed, preferably total free range. I eat so much fruit now. None of us on this forum came to needing the surgery from binging on grapes and oranges LOL. That is what my body asks me for now, one before surgery it was always a big fatty meats. Lately, even if I'm just having some chicken soup or something, I find myself thinking… "How long has this animal been dead? How old is this dead animal flesh I'm about to put in my body? "

Hi there...I am likely going to be given a May date. I have done everything for the process for my insurance except my final drs appt and nutritionist appt which are both early next week. Then they submit to my insurance and hopefully, fingers crossed, approval and then scheduling. I am in NYC and would love to have a great support system in place throughout this process. I am just doing a calorie restricted diet right now because my insurance prohibits me from gaining even an ounce during a 3 month pre-surgery period and this has even been hard for me bc I need to retrain my brain (ex. stop using food to both reward myself, punish myself, as distraction, when bored, etc). We have quite a journey ahead of us. Great success and good health to all of us.

Yes I feel the same my surgery is a week away and I'm nervous and excited! My family and a few close friends know. I'm fed scared of the changes after surgery but also excited bc it's a different lifestyle for our own good health. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Starting my Journey- contacted insurance step 1
GigiLane replied to GigiLane's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Calla! That's a good recommendation. I'm going to talk to my PCP. I tried every weight loss program out there shots, pills, low carb, no carb, and I lose weight but then I end up gaining it back plus some. I'm concerned about doing another "diet" bc my BMI is at 41.3 and I can't go under 40 to be approved. It's a catch 22. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
This pre-op diet is gonna kill me.
ashleypriv replied to breezy25's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
The pre op diet sucks major balls. Let me tell you. My surgery is tomorrow 3/30 and I had to do two weeks worth of Protein shakes and stuff. But it's going to help you lose weight, and make you a little healthier for surgery. I cheated on Easter and boy was that the wrong thing to do. It ran through me quicker then Hussain bolt. It did teach me though that this is the hardest part, bc you are still you and have these cravings but you can't let them win. It's helping you for after surgery too I believe, well I hope Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
New here and have an app question
J.lynn replied to senriquez08's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't know about an app, but I do use the "alarm" function on my phone for when I need to take vitamins and my BC. I have it set to repeat daily at the same time. That would be kind of annoying for water intake, but you could probably use it for pain meds. PS: Good luck with your surgery -
So no luck yet, I called the office and the manager that deals with insurance is out today and I'm sooo tempted to call the insurance company myself but I don't want to sabotage anything and I'm sure the doctors office has experience with this stuff. @@lolarose13 I have CDPHP which is a local insurance to upstate NY it's actually a really good plan but apparently my high blood pressure is not medically refractory hypertension bc I only take one medication. Pcos isn't a qualifying co morbidity for my plan which is unfortunate bc I blame that and my endometriosis on having a metabolic disease which I think contributes to my weight and my inability to lose and keep it off (well that and all the Desserts I eat, I'm definitely not one to blame all my weight issues on other things, my poor eating habits contribute I'm sure!! Lol)! Sounds like you have a fighting chance though depending on your insurance requirements, I wish you luck!!

Having Lap-Band to Gastric Sleeve revision
littlebare replied to littlebare's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I hope no complications either. I'm a pharmacy tech and am going back to work after a week. I know when I had my band I did that just fine but I'm worried about this time bc there is so much involved. But I dnt have anyone to cover for me after a week so I dnt know how that's going to go! Bandtosleever512 let me know how you are feeling after your surgery if you feel up to it. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using Tapatalk -
My surgery is on Tuesday March 29 I have to fly in on Monday for blood work and all that with dr Ramos Kelly I started myself on my liquid diet yesterday and I cheated with string cheese so today is the real game no place for errors. For my protein I'm going make jello with protein mixed in bc I'm on clear liquids. I wish you all good recoveries and successful diets.

I had major complications and lost 70lbs over 6 weeks. I know that I was severely malnourished and dehydrated for 6 weeks so I expected a little gain once my stents were removed and I stopped constantly vomiting....but I gained 4lbs in the last 3 weeks that I'm back home and eating and drinking! And even though I started back @ gym this week (slowly bc I'm still a bit weak and weary) I'm not budging at all on the scale. Any suggestions?? I'm only 3 months post op and I am not ready for the scale to stop!!! I'm getting in my 60g of Protein and fluids! Help!

I disagree. Why should she postpone a surgery she has worked so hard on preparing for just bc her husband is a DICK. I think you should go ahead and make a hotel reservation and constraint on YOU. You will be able to heal in peace and privacy. Just pak for anything you will need. You do what you need to do for yourself .... no one else FatKellyRN>soontobe<SleeveKellyRN

I have acid reflux and doctor recommended gastric bypass. I wanted a sleeve bc they don't mess that much with my stomach but bypass fits me best Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

It wasn't bad at all. They spray something on your throat before you sleep. They found an ulcer. Sucks bc now my surgery got pushed back Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Due to my acid reflex, they will be doing the gastric bypass and not sleeve Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Approvals with BCBS Federal
McNaughty replied to rln52's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have BCBS Fed Basic but also have Health Choice which is the Oklahoma state employee insurance. I am hoping (fingers crossed) that they will pick up some of the deductibles even though bariatric is not covered under them. We will see.<br /> -
OKC here. BCBS FED covers it. I guess there are drastic differences in the FED and OK plan.

Anyone have to take a Pre-Op Class
jane13 replied to taramarie523's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was required to do 3 pre-op classes (only done once per month) for BCBS Fed employees. They were nutrition classes for bariatric patients. -
Well the first month is your initial weigh, so my insurance doesn't count that one. I only needed 3 however your total should be 4 weigh ins. So if you have to do 6 months I would guess you need 1 more. 6 months is 7, bc you weigh the first time and future weigh ins show your loss. Double check with your insurance about the requirements to make sure you don't get denied. Good luck! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
