I am 19 days post surgery and I have not lost any weight. I am taking in between 600 and 800 calories per day. I really try to hit the 800 because I am feeling lots of hunger now. I believe I am making wise choices--protien shakes, since I am on mushies/soft I have had 1/2 a packet of cream of wheat for Breakfast, adding half a scoop of protien powder in it to boost the protien content. lunch is cottage cheese or a 4ounce smooth greek yogurt, for a snack I have a sf pudding cup or a motz cheese stick, dinner is usually a cup of pureed veggies with a scoop of plain or chicken flavored protien powder added to it, and maybe a few sf popsicles throughout the day as well as my Water. I am getting 64 ounces of water in between meals. I was losing steadily before surgery and I am feeling a bit like maybe I am doing something wrong? If you have any ideas toss them my way, please!

Does Eating Get Any Easier?
Newfoundlove replied to Lisa's Hope's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You are right on target. I'm five weeks out now and finally can eat 4 ounces of yogurt and cottage cheese, but most anything else is still only 2 or 3 ounces (especially dense foods). I added some avocado to my cottage cheese now too (LOVE cottage cheese) and that's really helped with adding some good flavor. But to me, it feels so good to even have just a small amount of something that really tastes good. The Mushie stage was boring to me because there wasn't much I could add to vary the taste buds. Once you get on regular food, hopefully you'll feel better even though you'll still be eating small portions. Hang in there! -
2 Weeks Post Op & Really Struggling Today
NJgirl replied to jkfjdohio's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try something like thin mashed potatoes (regular or sweet), or creamy polenta. Everybody is different, but you are allowed yogurt and puddings (at least I was) in the liquid stage. I also found homemade chicken broth with farina made a nice soup/stew and varied it up. I could handle that stuff more than I could a scrambled egg. You can get creative, just start really small and make sure your stomach can handle it. DON'T GO FOR THE HAMBURGER. It sounds tempting, but you will regret it. Your stomach is extremely sensitive, and you need to go slow when you start introducing foods or you will get very sick (not a pleasant experience). The last thing you want to do is go under the knife to fix a leak because you gave into the craving. I am 6 months out, and its be best decision I ever made (and now I can eat hamburger, well a mini one!) -
Insurance denying - Need records I can't come up with
Menelly replied to jas84047's topic in Insurance & Financing
RMAP has a pretty lenient diet protocol IMO, from what I've been reading on here. It's only half a day clear liquid before surgery (starting at 3pm) and by day 4 after they have you on stuff like light yogurt, cottage cheese, strained Soup, etc. By day 15 you can have soft moist foods. So yeah, it's gotta be the most "liberal" of the diets I've seen! (Including the 10 day preop diet. That's just a 1000 calorie diet with a Protein shake for Breakfast, lunch, and a Lean Cuisine or Healthy Choice meal for dinner. So not bad at all!) -
Great Article On Low-Carb/high Fat Diets
Fluffnomore replied to gamergirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This whole thing is why I wonder about why my binder from my clinic insists so much on fat free and low fat dairy. And sweeteners! Eating a fat free yogurt with artificial sweeteners seems counterintuitive to me. I understand that higher fat dairy has a few more calories per serving, but this is one of those things I'm really experimenting with. I would love to hear others' thoughts about that. -

Thanks! I do seem to be able to eat yogurt without issue so that is good. I couldn't tolerate drinking milk so I did switch to soy yesterday for shakes. Someone told me the almond soy is better then the Soy brand , did you guys have some advice on which is better? -

K I was wondering how you guys keep your protein and fluids balanced throughout the day with what we eat? I am not on solids yet I am on full fluids still with yogurt and protein shakes...I am hoping some of you will write like a sample menu for a day? I just want to see if I am doing the best I can to get everything in...I know I can't expect to do it all this early but I just want to know if I am making the most of my day...also what is the latest in the day you guys eat or drink? And lastly what are some snacks you might keep in your purses/bags? Thanks so much! -
I am struggling please help
jeanettecamacho07 replied to Elyne's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
50/50 water juice blend, decaf tea, crystal light is way better, low fat milk, yogurt. Try mixing protein powder any way you can and which is tolerable to you. Good luck. Im two weeks out and I found Vitamin shoppe to be of great help. -
Hunger Waking Me Up At Night
DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! replied to ILUVMATH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein takes longer to digest and keeps you full longer so I would suggest a protein shake or something else with high protein before bed. Low fat cottage cheese, ricotta cheese, or Greek yogurt are all good choices and fit into the mushie food phase. -
Hunger Waking Me Up At Night
mybella replied to ILUVMATH's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein is the key and will work. Even with your dinner use a low fat greek yogurt because it is thick and is very high in protein. if you do not like greek yogurt ad a splendar to it and it will sweeten it up. -
January 2020 Surgery Folks
PostVSGandKeto replied to TattooedSeaStar's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That's so weird cause I've been having the same issue. Even water is sitting poorly and leaves me burpy. I decided to try a reset and yesterday I did all liquids, water and shakes. Today I think I'll stick to soft foods (I'm thinking yogurt and eggs:)) and I'm hoping that will do the trick. Tomorrow's my weigh in say so a cleanse can't hurt... -
Getting banded on March31st, so excited... But I have a ??
CincyUdy replied to REDsparkles11's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my surgery on Feb 28th, this past monday and I had the same concern. I will tell you that after surgery you aren't in the mood to eat. Today I am 4 days out and I can tell I am healing fast. My doctor only required me to be on liquids the day of surgery and then move to a puree diet. I have been able to eat ham salad, egg salad, yogurt, soup, etc. The amazing thing is that after 1/2 cup to a cup you are full and satisfied. You still have yourold head playing tricks on you and wanting you to eat more so I suggest you measure your food and keep it at a 1/2 cup total at a sitting or it will not be comfortable!! So far I have been able to stay satisfied and not feel hungrey all the time. You have to make smart choices and it is hard in the puree stage because you can't eat a normal healthy diet. It is wonderful I must say and congrats on your up coming banding!! Time to start feeling good again! -
Ideas For Full Liquid Stage...
PrincessDaffodil replied to learning to fly's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You guys are allowed to have yogurt and pudding!?! NO FAIR! I am on liquids right now (1 week post-op), and I can't have those things until the soft foods stage - 3 weeks out. I'm having a variety consisting of 2 ounces of: carnation instant breakfast mixed with silk whey protein shakes water (flavored and unflavored) chicken, beef, and veggie broth juice (50/50 with water) decaf unsweet tea/coffee sugar-free ice pops To give the broth flavor, I like to cook it on the stove with carrots, celery, onion, and spices. Then I put it through the strainer to get rid of the veggies pieces. It adds a lot of flavor. I wish I had more options too, though. -
Eating after exercise
JamieLogical replied to AussieSam's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Definitely aim for high protein when eating after exercise. I too am usually able to eat a bit more post-workout than other times of day. That's why I always workout before dinner, since that tends to be my largest and highest protein "meal" of the day. It also might do you some good to eat a small amount of carbs BEFORE a workout. My afternoon snack is usually greek yogurt with a little granola or kashi cereal mixed in. That's the only time I eat any real carbs and I find it helps fuel me through my workout a little better. -
not over eating anymore but.....
ansoninc replied to glowormvl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with this poster. I see this frequently when people join AA. they develop another addictions. Often to cigarettes and coffee. It is a very good idea to seek some professional help. I have lost about 50 pounds in a year with about 30 more to go. i spent a lot of time in shopping malls over the summer. I needed to buy some new clothes, but I also discovered that every mall now has those frozen yogurt shops . You pay by the amount you put in your cups. I only lost 4 pounds in 3 months, because of my desires for the frozen yogurt on a hot day. Thankfully it is getting cooler and my closets are full so my desire for the frozen yogurt is waning. i just hope I can get rid of this left over Halloween candy now! -
Post-op pills - do I really have to crush them?

Cajun - I was told by the pharmacist as long as it isn't an extended release capsule, like effexor that it can be opened and mixed with something like applesauce or yogurt. -
Post-op pills - do I really have to crush them?
Malaika replied to Bookgirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would email Gaby and ask her - tell her what you've been doing. I don't think it will hurt you -- I know I that everytime I crushed my pills and mixed them with Water, I threw up. I started crumbling them intead of crushing them and taking them with just a tiny bit of yogurt or applesauce (this was about 10 days out). I know others have swallowed their pills since the day after surgery. I think it best to go to the source and ask Gaby (or Nina or Renee) and see what they have to say. Let us know. -
I do two things: 1, I eat Greek Yogurt...I usually buy it plain and mix a flavor in....Greek yogurt has about 13-15 grams of Protein per serving. 2, I fill a 24 ounce mixer cup with Water, a flavor packet like crystal light, one packet of sugar sub, and then two scoops of plain Protein powder. I keep this with me all the time; my schedule is to eat some sort of thick or dairy based "drink" during one hour and a water based in the next, so...every other hour I drink 4 oz of my water mix. By the end of the day, that gives me 43 protein on top of whatever else I have had...Hope this helps. I get my protein from the GNC website...

I hope today will be better.......they gave me Omeprazole to take but the instructions say to open the capsule and sprinkle it over pudding or yogurt........I'm on clear liquids until tomorrow! But I did take a small spoon ful of yogurt and sprinkled the pill over it and took it like that......also having a hard time sleeping, hense me posting on here before 3 am EST/ -
My surgery was March 18th and I had a Protein shake yesterday 2 oz. of greek yogurt and chicken broth for dinner. It's amazing after only a few days! You are doing great if you are already doing the pureed stuff

Cookie flavors post-op
Ava324 replied to roundisashape's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'd think not. If by full liquid, you mean you're in the broth stage, then no. I was told to strain absolutely everything. Contact your team to confirm, or wait til you can have yogurt to be safe. -

Besides the acid reflux which i know will go away this is the best thing ever...you will see....we are on our way! ~kris -
I'm on soft food until my first fill, November 16th, so I know exactly what you mean--I began with a general plan of what each day's diet would consist of and now in the second week after liquid, I too am running out of options. My biggest issue is with breakfast: have never cared for eggs but have been eating eggbeaters every day. Today I tried baby oatmeal and it was just bland, even with sweet n low! May have to go back to yogurt (1/2 6 oz. container) Went to the grocery store the other day and just cruised the aisles looking for something that would be good and simple and mushy: best thing I found was a small can of cranberry jelly! Have done mashed potatoes for dinner and have some canned veggies I plan on whipping up. I have been dreaming of mashed cauliflower and so may buy cheap frozen and cook it down and mash it up! But like you, my main dinner in two weeks has been refried Beans with shredded cheese on top. Soon we'll be able to have a small amount of regular--yum-m-m!

I have been starving lately!!!!!! I have been making a lot of smoothies with the Atkins shakes and putting yogurt in ( chobani) or Peanut Butter in the chocolate. I track everything in my fitness pal and just try to stay at 1000-1200 calories. And this weekend started to do Just Dance 4 as my exercise . I've been eating pretty mushy food but have also eaten a piece or two of pizza. I just track it. I definitely cannot eat as much as I once could and just try to take is slow and chew chew chew chew. I figure it will get better when I get my first fill which is next week. Until then I am not going to beat myself up (because I have done that enough in my life). This might be the wrong tactic and I know I need to get more Protein in but I am just going to keep working on it! I also and just cooking for my family and just eating smaller portions. Has lasagna "cupcakes" for dinner - emilybite.com and making chicken casserole tonight. These things last a whole lot longer now!!!!'
