    I can’t consume one more...

Hahaha you are the kinder gentler poster. Mine goes more like...yep. It's hard. Super hard. The debil hard. Now put on your big girl panties and the only way through it is through it. It's a right of passage. You will be through it sooner than you know. Options from @Orchids&Dragons are mix Fairlife milk FF with a spoon of yogurt, a scoop of unsweetened protein powder, some frozen fruit and maybe peanut butter powder and ice. Mix it up in the blender and if necessary strain it to get any fiber or seeds out. Enjoy. Same thing with soups. Make homemade soup, blend it, thin it down with homemade broth, strain if necessary. Enjoy. Also, mixing Premier Protein with coffee and ice or just black coffee makes it VERY palatable. I still love both hot and iced coffee!

    Going out to eat

I know exactly how you feel as I live in Vegas! But this is the way I looked at it. I made a lifestyle change by having surgery. Part of making healthy changes for me is giving up going out to eat. Yes, there's healthy choices rating out but its a slippery slope. And post op, very easy to push it a little and eat beyond the half cup or cup of food you should be eating. I will go to a restaurant for a special event or for business meeting ect but for the most part, try my hardest to stay away from eating out. Eating out is one of the reasons I am overweight to begin with. Even on vacation I have chose to go to the grocery store and buy yogurt, fruits, veggies ect. Sent from my Z970 using Tapatalk
  3. I can’t take it. I can’t consume one more chemical food-like substance! Protein shakes... blah! The thought of them make me nauseous. Creamed soup? Gross, SF pudding? Why? There is no nutritional value. I’m 11 days post op. Feel fantastic! I’m getting in my water, and I can drink normally. I’m on full liquids but all I really want is plain water. I have had some Greek yogurt, but two bites and I’m full. I’m lucky to finish the single serving container in a day. Just frustrated I guess... I just want some cheese, chicken salad, and green beans, lol

    Breakfast ideas

Still on pureeds and getting burnt out on eggs, oatmeal and yogurt. Anyone have any suggestions??
  5. For the 8 days you're not cleared to drive, the most advanced diet you'll be in is probably full liquids and you won't need a whole lot of it. Besides, most of us experience a change in tastes after surgery. I myself loved Premier Protein shakes pre-op and willingly drank them every day. Now, I can't stand looking at them. Suggest, get yourself some SF jello and a broth that you like. Have a couple varieties of protein shakes so that you have a choice. Consider maybe some frozen items like SF Popsicles and SF ice cream/frozen yogurt. You will likely get tired of sweet things and crave savory, so get a couple cream-type soups to have on hand for variety. As a priority, make sure you have a plan for getting fluids in. I'm OK with water and I tend to drink a lot of herbal teas, but if you don't, get some water flavorizers like MIO or crystal light. Do not stock up like you're planning on the apocalypse. You won't need much for those first few days.
  6. Fellow RNY'ers, So in my quest to understand what and how we should eat, the other night I watched "What the Health" Documentary on Netflix.... Because yes I want to loose weight but even more than that I want to be healthy, have vitality, have energy, nourish my body and re-learn how to eat to support those goals. Let's just say I was...disturbed. It seems like EVERYTHING I thought about food is...wrong!? I walked over and watched my kiddos (6 and 8), peacefully sleeping, and I felt like I was failing them. For I have taught that Eggs, Milk, Chicken, Yogurt etc is good. Following this documentary I hesitate to ever buy those products again. But what and how do I replace those items?? And to my dismay I also realized that , as a person 4 weeks post Sleeve to RNY revision, I know that going forward my diet will be very much an animal protein first diet, then a few spoons of veggie. My mind is swarming a little and I'm trying to make sense of this new knowledge. I called my doctors office and made an appointment with a nutritionist, but in the meantime....if any of you has watched this or cares to watch it and discuss, please post here. I would really love to know your thoughts and reactions.

All I want to eat is cheese!

I'm probably not going to be well-liked for making this statement, but really, nothing has bothered my stomach to date except for potentially eating a bite or two more than I really needed. I've had lots of different meats, cheeses, yogurts, protein shakes, etc. and since week 3 (when I could hardly keep the shakes down and switched from ready made to powders), I've not really had any problems at all. I'm so sorry you're having a hard time with certain foods. It's so strange how different we all are with this.

Sounds yummy! I just might have to give that a try. Looks like it would be high in protein too from the yogurt. I could probably add some protein powder to it too....Thanks for the suggestion!

    October Bypass

I’m scheduled for bypass on Oct 8. I have had a previous surgery. (Lapband). I did the 2 week diet then before and after surgery. Slow progression to mushy foods. Followed it to the T. It was not easy...I can say the food funerals yep we held them before the two weeks nearly every day but you know what the truth is you are going to eat those foods again. Hopefully in a good and balanced way thinking of all your hard work and surgery before taking the bite right? Band didn’t work well for me, as vigilant as I was my body rejected it and it had to come out before it did any serious irreversible damage. I’m ready for this next step...easing into the diet by eliminating one meal a week and replacing with a shake. This week I am up to breakfast and lunch 2 snacks of yogurt/pudding eating only a small dinner. Monday should be all liquids....easier at work all day home and the weekends are my challenge. One big incentive is my sons engagement party is the Sat before surgery...preop weight loss means a nice dress for Mamma 😉
  10. Muscle Milk is my favorite along with Premier Protein Peaches and Creme. Love Strawberry the most of MM, Along with the Blueberry Greek Yogurt.

All I want to eat is cheese!

These are great suggestions! I am a little over 9 weeks out and the only the thing I pretty much eat are cheddar cheese sticks and greek yogurt! I'm definitely not getting enough protein in but I just don't seem to like anything. I was told not to eat crackers or anything with flour. I asked because I feel like it'd be easier to eat tuna to get some additional protein if they were on crackers but was told no Are the Kay's crackers made with flour?
  12. Hi everyone. This is my first post and I’m 9 days post roux-en-y today. I’m still on my full liquid diet and have my post op check tomorrow. I’m assuming he’ll advance me to a soft diet at that time (I’m very excited about this). My question is this: for the past 2-3 days I’ve noticed that about 30 minutes after my “meal”, whether it’s a protein shake, yogurts, etc. I find that I’m hungry, with actual hunger pangs. Nothing painful, just that hungry feeling in my stomach. I’m trying to up my water intake between meals to fill me up so I’m not snacking all day, but I’m wondering if this is normal? I’m hitting 70 grams of protein or very close to it each day, and my calories are between 400-600 most days. Thank you in advance for your input!

All I want to eat is cheese!

Finding healthy alternatives is definitely the way to go, but you need to pay attention to the type of hunger you're feeding. When it's all focused on one food, it's really a craving (head hunger), not actual hunger. Actual hunger would be satisfied with scrambled eggs or some yogurt.

Im exhausted 11 days post-op need advice

It's normal so early on to feel exhausted because of the low calorie intake. Based on your current meals of 3 shakes and a yogurt, you're at about 700 calories which is truly not enough for the human body to function like normal. I had 2 1/2 weeks off and got back to work, I was dead tired by the end of the work day, and I have a office job (wish i could have taken more time off). When I moved to Pureed foods it helped and brought in a few more calories and started adapting. It also takes a few weeks for your body to adjust to the lower intake. Hang in there.

    August 2018 sleeve surgery!!

I am now 4 weeks post op and according to my plan, carbs (rice, pasta, breads) are a definite no-no. To the point my plan states to keep them at bay for at least 6-months. The only carbs I take in are yogurts, peanut butter, flax. My diet sticks with healthy fats, soft foods like tuna, cottage cheese, ricotta bake, etc. I won't say that I haven't slipped, but my slipping involves eating not to soft meats (chicken, turkey breast, pork roast and deli roast beefs). I've noticed if my fiber is not enough I don't lose weight as quickly. And when my water intake is greater than 80oz I lose quicker. But the restriction is definitely there. My body ALWAYS lets me know if I'm eating too fast or have eaten too much.
  16. You will feel it with Yogurt and cottage cheese too, not just chicken. (At least I do)
  17. When you say solid foods, do you mean things like chicken, or are you counting cottage cheese and yogurt in that?
  18. No,Nibble the Super-Surgery- Chick,is not firing on all cylinders. Dr Needleman took me to Stage 3 at 6 days. I now do not agree with him. I can only speak for Protein2O because it's the only one I've tried, but it's pretty good. Not really that sweet. It adds to your fluid intake for the day plus the added bonus of the protein. $7 for a four pack, give it a try. You never know. During mushy stage I started mixing them with yogurt. Tastes really good.

Eating at a restaurant is difficult because the portions are so large! I do the same...share, but sometimes people want all of their food. Lol. If you like yogurt, you might like the yogurt drinks I make with yogurt, coconut milk and strawberry (Polaner all fruit) preserves and a bit of stevia. Oh, my gosh. They are so good! I might not have made it through the first month if it weren't for those drinks.

I'm about 8-9 weeks out right now. I can eat pretty much what I want just much smaller portions. I make much better decisions now too when it comes to meals. For example, Breakfast I have a triple zero oikos yogurt and coffee. Lunch is usually some sort of soup or Kroger brand omelette bites (4 count). When I get home from work around 3:30 I have a snack. Usually v8 with some hummus and crackers or cheese spread with crackers. Then we make dinner about 6-7pm. I make stuff for tacos but I usually make a small taco salad no shell with some ranch on the side. Or, a few pieriogies and chunky marinara. When I go out to eat I no longer order my own meal. I just eat off my husbands and daughter's plate. I refrain from eating any appetizers or free starters like some places have: bread, rolls, chips and salsa or peanuts. I don't buy a drink at restaurants because I cant drink while I eat anyway. So I am a cheap date these days! It's been so nice on my wallet.

3 Weeks Post Op. NEED HELP!!

In your post op diets, did they mention using ground flax seeds or refried beans? These are all excellent sources of fiber and will help with constipation without the use of stool softeners. I add ground flax to my yogurt daily and since I have I have a small BM nearly every day.
  23. Hi, all! I had my surgery on August 16th. I’m doing great as far as pain, healing, etc, but I was nauseated 24/7 for the first three weeks. I’ve had a barrilium swallow test, and everything looks great - no leaks, twists, knots, or blockages. I realized at the end of week 3 that the protein shakes were the culprit. I have tried SEVERAL different protein supplements to no avail. Once I stopped the protein shakes, I had a couple days of no nausea, now I’m getting sick almost everyday. I have ordered vitamin patches that should be here Tuesday. I’m sure that will help some. I’m still working to get protein in anyway I can (Greek yogurt, still trying other powders/supplements, etc), but I’m having a lot of trouble trying to eat. I’ve talked to my surgeon multiple times. He says some people are just more sensitive to nausea. He said it could be days, weeks, or months, and I just have to wait it out. I am MISERABLE! I’m just so sick of being sick! I’m sorry to be Debbie Downer! I guess I just thought “talking” to someone who may understand may help. Everyone thinks they understand, and they want to tell me to try this and try that, they tell me they know how I feel because this one time when they were dieting blah blah blah, but they have NO clue! I’m not just dieting, I’m not just constipated (Yes, they’ve compared it to that too.🙄), and I’m not just feeling bad. I had 80% of my stomach removed, and I’ve been sick for 4 weeks!

    Minnesota?

I'm so glad to meet people from Minnesota on here! I'm a bit more than 5 months post op. Had a sleeve done at Park Nicollet/Methodist by Dr. Grish Luthra. I couldn't be happier. A few thoughts for folks struggling with protein intake early after surgery, my nutritionist recommended Fairlife milk which has 13g protein per 8 oz. It also has fewer carbs than regular milk and tastes the same (at least to me). In any event, I found protein shakes to be more tolerable if I added milk to them. I'm not a coffee drinker, but I have heard of people who mix coffee with their protein shakes. Oikos Triple Zero Greek yogurt has a good amount of protein without a lot of added sugar. It would be a lot of fun to organize a get together. Anyone interested? Maybe meet at a coffee place? I'm in St. Louis Park. Musical Kate is in St. Paul. Where is everyone else?
  25. Hi there, This is my 1st message. I am 11 days post up. I have lost 30 pds but I am totally exhausted. I do 3 protein shakes a day and 1 cup of yogurt and drink water. Just no energy I star back to work tomorrow. thanks
