Congrats Mommyof4 - I'm right there with you!! I had surgery a couple of days after you did. A size 8 has been my goal all along, not really a certain weight. I just bought an only slightly snug pair of white capris two days ago for next spring. I can't imagine that I'll be any smaller than an 8!! My size 10's are 'big' after a day and I need to wash them, but at age 51, I think the 8 is too tight.....ten years ago, I'd have worn them NOW!!! I am having so much fun buying clothes. I hated shopping before, it's been years since I enjoyed buying clothes for myself. I'm sure you feel the same!!! I've given away 7 trash bags full of clothes!! I can't wear anything from 'before'. It is so strange, but a good strange. It's still hard to get use to not going to the "womens" dept. Anyway.....have fun and again, congratulations on the itty bitty size!!!!

I had surgery on March 10, 2014. I have lost 17 pounds since I started this journey. Part of which was from the liquid diet before the surgery. I can feel restriction, so I don't think I'm overeating, but I've been at a the same weight for a month now. I am very discouraged. I walked two miles yesterday. i just don't get it. i have not got this figured out yet. i had this surgery so I would not have to worry about dieting any longer, yet here I am worrying again about food! I will take any advice offered. Thanks, Mississippi Girl

Wow! So you just lived one of my dreams. Congratulations on your progress! I have walked by that store so many times for so many years hoping I would one day be able to purchase bras and panties from there. I am still not quite there but I am not too far off. I am however able to purchase some clothes from normal stores and am close to moving down another size here in the next 5/10 lbs. I cannot wait to cut up my Layne Bryant card. I think there will be a huge celebration at my house. I have had to replace all my shoes because I now take a medium width! I love shoe shopping! By the way, I have always hated shopping, now I look forward to trying on clothes! Congratulations again on your great success and thanks for sharing your wins! I guess I will live vicariously through you until I lose the next couple of sizes.

My bariatric doctor shared it is easy for people post bariatric surgery to trade a food addiction for another unhealthy addiction such as too much alcohol, smoking, overdoing exercise, etc. I suggest you ask yourself why you are smoking and what benefit are you getting and why smoking versus other productive activities. Stop eating when full?
FluffyChix replied to JitterbugPerfume's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
^^^This! Great post @allwet. It's super stressful, the "not knowing," and trying to navigate a new road. The surgical team tries as best they can to prepare us, but the reality is that it's like bringing home a new baby from the hospital. We will be anxious and fretful 1st time parents to our new babies. I was TERRIFIED of overeating and ruining the tool I was given. My new pouch wasn't giving me feedback to let me know when I was full. So I never knew how much latitude to give myself. So I actually did the opposite of you. I ate my scheduled 5-6 mini meals per day and got my protein in come hell or high water. But I ate very small quantities and calories for my stage in order not to stretch my pouch. Consequently, I never challenged it or felt full--so I thought my surgery was screwed up cuz I never got full. LOL. Then one day I let myself eat all I wanted. Low and behold, I was only about 2-3bites below the "OK, 'enough moron' stage." I got my vitamins in each day and got my 120oz of liquids! Every day. I ate on a schedule whether I was hungry or not, cuz it was the only way to get my protein in and make as much of it protein from food, rather than protein supplements. Retrospectively, I'm not sure if that was right or wrong. You know? I could have just had 2 Premier Proteins for 320cals and been done with it! Protein req satisfied, BOOM Chahkalaka! And I would have had 22oz of liquids toward my goal. I healed easily. Many don't. Many of you guys have a LOT of swelling to deal with. So it's an individual walk and what worked for me, won't work for you. You just have to carefully feel things out. Now, fast forward to 9 almost 10 weeks and my new tummy tells me when it's full and I know approximately how big a meal should be by volume and weight. I know when I can't possibly eat another meal--so I cut out the next meal. I try to still eat on a schedule, but sometimes I don't want my snacks. So I skip them. Eventually, I will be able to eat enough volume, that I can eat 3 meals + 1 snack a day. But I'm not there yet. And that's ok. My tummy will tell me when I am! Your's will too! At the end of the day, if I haven't eaten enough to satisfy my protein minimum for the day, I will add as much Premier Protein as I have to have in order to satisfy my minimum goal. I ALWAYS satisfy my liquid reqs and my vitamin reqs and the absolute minimum protein. But now I'm doing good to work toward the middle of the protein range, which should give me more oomph to do my workouts. Just take things slowly and try to listen to the very subtle cues from your body. They will become more and more pronounced as you learn its new language! Congrats on surgery! -
I ate an egg...
mamaplumlee replied to 140icandoit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on 10/1 and I can not eat a whole egg. I can eat maybe 1/2 and then I'm stuffed for like 12 hours shy of water. I usually get hungry in the morning and near bedtime other then that I graze. -
Time To Introduce Myself
kespy74 replied to iluvmyArmani's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congratulations and Good Luck!! Keep us posted. There are so many awesome people in this forum. It really is like a family that understands what you are going through. I am 5' 2.5" and weigh between 230 and 226 on any given day. I also hate looking at myself in the mirror and feel so embarrased that I got this big. I even asked my hubby of 19 years if he still found me desirable since I gained 100 pounds during the course of our marriage. I was so scared to hear the answer, but he reminded me why I love him so much. He said he loves me and I am as desirable as ever because he knows the person I am. Such a great guy!! I was hoping to get surgery before the end of the year, but I still have to go through all my clearances. I go to my PCM on the 19th for the referrals and hopefully I can get in sooner rather than later. January/February is probably more realistic. As long as I can get it before my 40th birthday. -
Getting serious again
borg/assimilated replied to NikkiDoc's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I hope going back to Protein shakes works to kick start the losing again. I may have to do that too. I have been stuck around the same weight ( +/- 5 lbs.) for 6 months now ( 19 months out). I rarely lost over 5 pounds a month after the first few months. Good luck! Let us know if it works! -
Swallowing capsules
IcanMakeit replied to VitaleEM's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I'm 15 months out now and I've been taking capsules since I was about 10 weeks out. So far, no problems. -
Really trying to be good with my eating. Was good all day up until 30 mins ago and had 1 1/2 biscuit. I am trying to stay under 1200 calories as I need to loose 10% of my weight by August. I almost feel that i should just go to bed after I eat dinner so I am not tempted. Any pointers

I was sleeved by Dr. Ariel Ortiz 2/19. I've had 2 days of pretty bad nausea. Not wanting to eat at all and some diahrea. Not sure what's causing it. My stomach doesn't hurt but is uncomfortable. I haven't experienced anything like this since surgery. Anyone else experience someone similar?

Hey Bud, Don't get discouraged! You are less than two weeks post-op. I lost 10 lbs on my pre-surgery diet and gained back every ounce thanks to the intravenous fluids I had in the hospital. My husband said my tummy was the biggest he had ever seen it in the first days following surgery. You have had your entire abdomen traumatized, and your body is rushing resources to it to aid in healing. It no different from the swelling you have with a sprained ankle or busted lip. I don't know if you would do better with a scale or not. I personally know that I need one. I have done very well, but I don't lose every week, much less every day--even at the first. This is not a 50 yard dash, it is a marathon. And unless you are planning a vacation to Maui in a couple of weeks, there are no deadlines or "use by" dates for losing after surgery. You will get to eat real food before you know it. I remember being hungry while on the liquid stage and my Protein shakes were nauseating. I'm so glad to have that behind me. But I have been amazed that hunger is not really an issue for me. But, the caveat is that I didn't get to 280 lbs by eating because I was hungry. So even the lessening and hunger, while a great gift, does not solve all of my eating problems. Concentrate now on healing, resting, moving, drinking, and you will lose! But even better than the scale moving, you will begin to feel so much better. If you are like me, it takes a while for your clothes to show the loss because they were pretty tight to begin with. And those lumps and bumps didn't come on us overnight and they won't disappear overnight. I will pray for you and wish you well! You have taken the first big step in a long and wonderful journey, as have I.

Hello! I'm one of those quiet background researchers who never post...but I am having a hard time finding a place for DS surgery patients. I am scheduled for VSG with a DS on 12/19 and start my pre-op diet on 12/5. I am trying to research and plan meals for my puree and soft foods weeks to support the DS malabsorption component. I want this tool to work for me and I am trying to find foods that will be good for me and also support my WLS goals specifically with my DS. Can I please get some advice of other areas or links for recipes and support than BP? My surgeon gave me a great list of items but I need help to make a dish. Thank you!!! After a stall at about 143 I'm finally at my personal goal weight in 19 weeks post-op. It looks like I'm having no trouble keeping my Kcal down so I expect to go lower. I know I'd never have accomplished this without the sleeve! My surgery is a secret so I cannot post photos but believe me.....it's amazing! What kinda of fitness goals do people set? It's nice to be working on something. I have no: fatigue, reflux or complications. My only compliant is hair loss which obviously is considered normal.

I am going to be having surgery at the end of the month and I have heard some many things on what you can and can't have before and after surgery. So what are some of the best things to have for your liquid diet before surgery as well as after?? Also I'm a spark girl(single mom works 8-10 hr days so I need my energy) is that something you can have after surgery? Again any advice would be great, so confused about everything you read cause you see so may different things different places. Thank you in advance

Wish I had some tips for you, but I was still in after surgery weight loss when I got pregnant. I was only 8m out. I actually lost 10 lbs during the first trimester, I gained almost all of my weight during the last 10w or so. I was 333 when I started my preop diet. 247 when I got pregnant, and 249 day before delivery.

FYI...allergies and hunger
jdmama911 replied to scootergirl's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That is awesome you mentioned that!! I was having awful nausea even after a week post op. I went into the doctors concerned about that and something unrelated. At the end of my appt. I asked when I was allowed to go back on my Allegra and my other allergy meds. My PA looked at me and said "Take them and see how you feel tomorrow. I bet your nausea is being caused by post nasal drip." She was totally right. Now, it's been about 10 days and I've been getting hunger pangs and wondering why. I just realized today it's been a few days since I've taken my Allegra!! That's great. First thing in the a.m. I'll be taking it -
Yes I had my surgery last.Friday 10/12.. I went to work today and my back was KILLING me!!
