1 Year Surgiversary!
naynay209 replied to kiwiladydee's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi Kiwiladydee, you look great. You were beautiful before but I'm sure u feel it more now that your at a healthier weight. How are you doing now? Are you exercising daily or every other day. And what type of diet r u on? Do you do protein shakes? I ask because my best friend had this surgery almost 10 years ago and she has never taken vitamins and luckily never had any issues. -

Everyone on a pre-op diet: how's it going?
Margie122 replied to Sue's Eye's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello... My pre-op diet consists of three Meal Replacements and one meal of lean protein/veg....all of which should not go over 1,000 calories a day. I've been doing it since 10/14...and it's been a real biatch, but worth it since I've been losing weight. I'll find out tomorrow if UHC has approved my surgery....I'm hoping they do, because I really don't want to have to do this pre-op diet twice. -
My Story, As I Wait.......
kittylove32 replied to Jbright's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, my name is Jen. I was lucky because my insurance wanted a 5 yr weight history. My dr office didn't have any diet records and neither did I. Thankfully my dr just wrote a letter and that was good enough. I also was on diet pills for many yrs. Too many yrs. Not anymore. I also weigh 243. I am only 5'1 so I feel horrible and am in pain every day. All my life I maintained 125-130 lbs. Then 9 yrs ago I started gaining weight due to depression. Then I had my son, that was 30 lbs there. The icing on the cake was I quit smoking and that put on 40 lbs! My small frame can't handle this weight. I just went for my last visit. Got my 2 week supply of shakes. I start those on the 10 th then surgery on the 25th! I am pretty nervous. I feel like I will die from hunger on the pre op diet but I HAVE to lose the weight. Good luck to you and I hope you find something out soon! Oh, and I called the insurance all the time too, LOL I only had to wait a week though -
Walked almost 38 miles in the past 5 days
4MRB4PHOTO replied to Aggiemae's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
WOW, That is amazing! $10 for a hot dog lunch. Just kidding, congratulations on the amazing amount of walkingyou did and your NSVs. -
I'm 6ish weeks out and I'm falling in the 650-800 calorie a day range now. I started slowly adding 1/2 banana once per day into my shake a couple of weeks ago. Then I stalled for a week elliminated the 1/2 banana...boom started dropping again. I'm not exercising like crazy but getting 10-14k steps in a day. I have not so much had a piece of popcorn. I figure I'm one of those people with a carb sensitive body.

Pre-op diet? What is allowed?
mrsto replied to Wanna-Be-Healthy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
No, it's not consistent. And you will find that from beginning to end as you participate in these forums. My pre-op diet was two weeks at 1200 calories per day - low fat. I was on full liquids for only two days pre-op. Then, clear liquids for two days after surgery, then moved to full liquids for another 10 days. Then mushy foods, and every 7-10 days something else was added. I've read of people being on full foods within two weeks. Not much progression, other than liquids right afterwards. Then some had to stay on clear liquids for a full month post-op. Every doctor has their own spin on this part, and it's just important that you follow what YOUR doctor prescribes. Don't get thrown off by what you read here. It can be confusing, but you chose your doctor for this procedure, and need to lean on him and his staff for guidelines. -
Help!! Texas Newbie here.. scheduled for Jan 22nd!
mytrybe replied to illion's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon said I had to take 2 adkins drinks,4 oz meat and one cup of any veg (no peas or corn) everyday prior surgery. This was a nice way to shrink the liver because I have been on liquids since...19 days.....Good luck, it does work ! -
Is it normal to plateau and lose restriction?
Zazzeloop replied to Zazzeloop's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am no expert but it sounds to me like you are doing excellent. 25 pounds is huge. If you are still hungry, you probably need another fill, which will do way more than any diet pill ever could. Trust me. I have tried it all, and diet pills are only as good as your self control and if its not excellent, then they are just an aid -- you may not be starving and have to have it when you take diet pills, but if you still want it mentally you can eat it. Not only that they can be so dangerous to your health - take this from a person who spent 6 weeks on life support in ICU back when I was 23 years old with the diet pills being named as a major contributing cause. The band is actually better than our self control, because if our self control is not good, you will be running for the ladies room -- and that can be awkward and annoying. Now don't get me wrong -- I too am a believer of the belly beasts, but I am also a huge believer that the band is a tool that can change my life albeit slowly, I have accepted this but still wonder about it.... One thing I must say is that it has been a year, and I have only lost 24 pounds but I have no regrets. I have gotten to this point before with gruelling starvation diets and then gained it all back over the course of 6 weeks. Plateauing SUCKS but gaining weight is 10 million times worse. -

Surgery 1 Week Away!!!
pjoy2009 replied to endlessdreams_x's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Jamie - I will be banded the same day 10/26 - less than a week away. The liquid diet is SOOOOO hard, my stomach is constantly all gurggly ughh. I am freaking out a bit about being put under anesthesia - and not waking up ever again.... those are my most irrational fears. But can't wait to start this journey and know that it's a permanent not temporary solution. Good luck next week... Keep me posted on how you are doing! Pam -
Just wanted to say I am glad to be getting a second chance. Was supposed to be baned in the begining os September. That didnt work out because they discovered I had a-fib during the pre admission testing. So after getting cleared by the cardiologist last week I am now scheduled for 1/20/10. Was tough and kinda depressing for the last 4 months but I held my own. Am still down from alltime high but havent lost anything in the last few months. Am looking forward to my new life with the band.

Oh no, I fall enough as it is! I have been falling for a couple years, when I was in for my surgery the nurses kept asking me how I got the injury to my leg, seemed like they didn't believe me. As for Vertigo, I get it a few times a year for the past 10 years. It is no fun!

I'm here with all of you! Day 3 of preop liquid diet and...cheated on the 10 little tiny oyster crackers that were left in the cupboard. Yep...counted every one of them. Probably not the end of the world however, I realize the importance of not having things in the house for me to go to and keeping myself busy. Nighttime, t.v. time is the worst for me. Have to start creating a new normal.

What was the cause of your SLIPPAGE?
Boo_68 replied to Jul's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I was very sick with the Flu for 2 weeks which landed me in the ER with the most horrific pain I'd ever experienced in my life. After 2 days in the ER, they did a Barium Swallow and sure enough my band had slipped half way down my stomach. Mine was stitched in place in my original surgery on 2/5/09. I've followed Dr. 's orders since the beginning and have had great success. I underwent surgery on 9/21/10 to reposition the band. The only thing I would do differently now...when I came down with the Flu and started vomitting...I would go straight to the Dr. to have my band unfilled until I'm well again. I thought I was invicible. Band Slips can happen even if your doing everything right. -

Lap Band Post Op Day 8
bkchick88 replied to Babylvrrn's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Babylvrrn, you're just a few days ahead of me in this experience and I feel exactly how you do with this liquid diet. It's driving me bonkers too. I would pay big money just to eat some cottage cheese right now. It's gotten to the point that no matter what I drink, it all tastes the same. My doctor said I could start pureed food at about 10 days, and I'm only on day 3. He won't let me eat solid food until week 4, which seems like an eternity. I guess we just have to tough it out. -
I felt just like you when I started. I also wanted a sleeve. My thought was that I wouldn't be rearranging my guts and I would have less issues with not getting enough nutrients. It seemed better in my mind. My dr also suggested RNY. He said their data showed more weight loss with RNY (though the sleeve was close behind) and they had seen less weight gain with RNY 2-5 years post op. After doing a lot of research of my own and still not coming to a clear decision I went ahead with the dr's recommendation. I'm only 10 days post op so I don't really have any advice but I hope you find what you need to make your decision.

Ugh, I'm getting scared!
areellady replied to PghMomof3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You know I was thinking about being scared and i was reading in the complications thread about a gal who had to get her gallbladder out and she was so glad so now she wouldnt be sick anymore and she would start feeling better!! I think the difference is the type of surgeries...elective vs. HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW!!! But if we think about the lap band as HAVE TO HAVE IT NOW because we need to feel better now...then maybe it wouldnt be so hard to swallow the fact that you are having surgery. I mean, if you didnt have the Lap band surgery and then 2 years from now you have to have open heart surgery because you have a heart attack because of the obesity and comorbidities, you would be glad that the doctor was going to fix your heart so you could live longer....I dont know, I am just ranting...I was scared too and I dont think there is anything anyone can say to make it better or the nervousness go away. But, I do know, that my doctor told me three years ago that if I didnt do something about my weight I would not be around in 10 years...So three years later...I was 7 years away from the ten year time frame...and I got scared...more scared than thinking about the surgery... You will get through it and then wonder why you were so nervous...thats how it always works.....but in the mean time....CONGRATULATIONS!! You are gonna be healthy:clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: :clap2: Deanna -
