I'm currently scheduled for a MGB in February (from a GS). My surgeon and I only talked about the MGB, and not DS. My BMI is 36.6 (with two co-morb.), but I really want this to be my final surgery (no more revisions!). Should I talk to my doctor about the DS? Is recovery/life style really that different than a MGB/GB? I'm a self-pay, so insurance is not a concern. I have to take Rexulti for depression (I've tried stopping and it went poorly) and it caused me to regain 30 pounds, so I'm particularly concerned about weight regain. Thanks in advance!

I am undergoing a revision from gastric sleeve to a MGB in February, and I'm a little worried about my meds. I currently take Vyvanse 70 mg and Adderall 20mg 3x daily. (yes, I am aware that is a crap ton of stimulants). Anywho, how have people's experiences been taking these meds post MGB? Do you crush the IR Adderall tablet? Does it work as well? I assume the Vyvanse doesn't work as well because its extended release. Has anyone switched to IR Ritalin or the patch? What dose were you switched to? The highest patch doesn't seem equivalent to 70mg of Vyvanse and Methylphenidate hasn't worked super well for me historically. To quote my previous psychiatrist after hearing my new doc switched me to it, "But that's for children!" I currently also take a prescription NSAID for migraines 1-2 times a month. Do I have to stop taking that? I assume so but Triptans (maxalt, sumpitriptan) make me super sick. What have you switched to? Tylenol will not cut it. Cambia has been the holy grail of migraines for me, so I'm bummed to stop taking it. Of course, I'm going to speak to my neurologist, psychiatrist, and surgeon, but would love your personal experiences. Thanks!

I got mine 10 years ago and it worked great-until it didn't. I was never able to eat meat without getting sick, so I just became a vegetarian, but I was OK with that and now I'm happy about it. But back in January I started to slime and vomit almost immediately after EVERY meal, so I had the fill removed and then only got sick about three times a week. But that respite only lasted about 2 months, then I was getting sick again, even after just drinking water sometimes. They did barium swallows and it looked great-no slips, dilations-things of that sort-but still something was wrong. So I went back to the surgeon where he explained that if even if everything looked great on an x-ray, scar tissue develops where the band rubs the stomach, and that's what's causing the restrictions even with no fill in the band. And it was just a matter of time before it restricted so bad NOTHING would get through it without much difficulty. So it's coming out Nov 20 and being revised to an RNY during the same surgery, and I can't wait. I hope I'm not changing one problem for another, but I don't think so. The plus of this is the transition should be easy since I've practiced the "eating rules" for 10 years and know the difference between "head hunger" and true hunger, and maybe finally I can eat without dreading it and wondering "would I get sick THIS meal". I know the portions will still be small, but if they go down without the sliming and "productive burping" and pain I'll be happy!

Hello Pita4404, you are not alone at all! I had my lapband for 7 years and words can't describe how liberated and relieved I felt when I had it removed this past may and revised to sleeve in August. The last few months were horrible and I didn't have a slip! The bloating, the reflux, the plain discomfort of eating and slimming etc!!! I felt like I was in a life sentence! Especially when one pays for it out of pocket. You just feel like I bought this pain on myself and have to live with it...NO YOU DON'T! At one point it was no longer about weight loss, it was about survival. I can't believe how long I allowed the band to rule my life. All healthy foods didn't pass through and I had to subsist on unhealthy foods. You NEVER can predict what the band would allow on any given day! Arghhh, just thinking about it makes me very sad, it was truly like an abusive relationship! My life has been completely different since it's been out. I have control back. The sleeve is like a night/day difference. I can eat salads and fibers again. I feel so grateful being able to eat out without checking to see where the nearest restroom is. I feel healthy and "normal" again. TAKE IT OUT!!! And Congratulations in advance to a whole new existence[emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176][emoji176] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

I added this to the" revision... omg" page but ill add it here too This is from a surgeon's perspective not mine. The sleeve is not for everyone. Some people did not have the correct surgery for their needs. (My perspective: The may have needed extreme malabsorption along with restriction because the lifestyle changes just could not last. And what to you say to people like that? Just try harder, knowing they cannot? Thats cruel. Give them better tools to do the job.) Sleeve was originally part 1 of 2 of the Switch (DS) but it worked so well some people never needed to have part 2. Then insurance companies allowed it to be billed as a stand alone procedure. But that didnt mean everyone should have stopped at part 1, some people needed to go forward with part 2. When regain happens (Goodbye honeymoon phase) its seen as their fault instead of noncompletion of the process. Shame and guilt adds fuel to the fire and getting insurance companies to cover the "revision" without a complication is an epic battle. Also structurally (VSG or any WLS) is not infallible. Many things can go wrong immediately or even years down the line. *Disclaimer not pointing any fingers at anyone or this thread at all but perhaps the caste system the entire WLS community has created?* IMHO I think its easy and possibly careless to forget that we all (here) needed some level of intervention from WLS after we are successful. It becomes problematic to believe if do everything absolutely correctly (maybe even the first time) some cosmic merit/lottery/award will be paid out for all of our hard work. And those that need more help are getting off easy. Not everyone will lose or maintain 100 % excess weight let alone 65% & the surgeons will tell us this but we ignore it constantly. Sometimes it just doesn't work like in the books no matter what/who's at fault I have learned to mind my business big time because if someone goes through hell and back, the doctors & insurance companies open the pearly gates then they must have their reasons. Apologies for the length

ESG Progress Updates For Accountability
Melesg replied to hope4momof4's topic in Endoscopic Sleeve Gastroplasty Forum
Hi everyone. I have finally hit my goal weight!!! I am over 2 years post ESG now and stated regaining weight steadily late in 2018. I was really worried I would be back where I started regarding my weight so booked a surgical consult to consider revision to a bypass or gastric sleeve. As the wait was 2 months to see the surgeon I wanted to see, I decided to see a doctor led weight loss clinic and start saxenda. I am glad to say that I am now at goal weight, 28kg lost over 2 years with my combination of ESG and saxenda. No surgery needed. For those of you who have had esg and who are struggling with hunger, this has helped me so much. I have mild restriction to meals from ESG but it was snacking that was killing my weight loss. The saxenda has helped this greatly. The combination of the two has been effective. -
Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!
GreenTealael replied to summerset's topic in Rants & Raves
I can chime in a little here about sleeve failure (although mine didn't fail me) This is from a surgeon's perspective not mine. And I've asked a few. I wish I would have recorded it. Some people did not have the correct surgery for their needs. Sleeve was originally part 1 of 2 of the Switch (DS) but it worked so well some people never needed to have part 2. Then insurance companies allowed it to be billed as a stand alone procedure. But that didnt mean everyone should have stopped at part 1, some people needed to go forward with part 2. (Goodbye honeymoon phase) When regain happens its seen as their fault instead of noncompletion of the process. Shame and guilt adds fuel to the fire and getting insurance companies to cover the "revision" without a complication is an epic battle. But y'all heard this all before... -
Any August 2019 people out there?
BayougirlMrsS replied to big_ange's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Back history..... I joined the site back in 2008-2009 i think. Back when it was called Lapbandtalk. Of course, it was for people that had the lapband done. Which i did back in 2009. SW 232, weight the day my band was removed 143 March 2017 due to a slip. This is a revision for me. I know most people say.... well 30lbs is nothing, but when your 5'2" it is. I have told no one except my husband about the sleeve. I didn't want to hear all the crap from all the people. I did what i thought was best. and because i had had a previous WLS and was cash pay.... sleeve it is. Band SW 232, LW 130... removal weight 143 (i stayed here for years) 2009-2017 Sleeved SW 173.5, CW 144.4 (as of today). Sx date Aug 28, 2019....... 10 weeks and two day PO. Chris -
most people don't lose weight nearly as fast after a revision as they do after a virgin surgery. So your 33 lb drop is actually very good! Check with your surgeon's office as to what you should be eating. All surgeon's plans are different.

How does the Sleeve fail? I had the band from 2009 till 2017. She slipped after a bad case of flu/stomach bug. The only unfill i had was when i had my TT. I was back at 10.5cc in her when she slipped. Till then i had zero problems. SW 232, removal weight 143. After much research and searching, i found a dr here where i live to do a revision (2.5 years later & 30lbs). I revised to the sleeve. I see people on here saying that the sleeve failed. How does that happen???? I mean i know how the band can fail..... erosion, slip, removing all the fill and going back to old habits. But how when its something that's permanent? Chris

Third Revision...
BayougirlMrsS replied to Caela88's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Congrats on the initial loss. I also had a removal due to a slip. My loss was a consistent 89lbs. After the removal, i gained 30 over the next 2.5 years. Just revised to the sleeve Aug 28th. I've lost 29lbs. I only have 1 more to get back to where i was the day the band was removed. The sleeve is all still very new. I guess my question is, how did the hysterectomy make you gain weight? I also had that and gallbladder removal. Was it the change in your diet? quantity? hormones? These are things i'm trying to look out for. And how will the GB/DS be different from the sleeve? I'm not wanting this to come out the wrong way as i am very interested. I turned 51 last july and started menopause this past March... ish... If there is something i can watch out for.... i'm all for it. -
Mental Health Evaluation

I am a little nuts too, but didn't have to do any psych evaluation because I was a revision with many repairs to make. If they only knew..... 🤪 -
Who will you tell (or not tell) about WLS?
Bastian replied to ChubRub's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
other than my immediate family I only told 3 people. It isn't anyone else's business and like you I can't be doing with the judgement that this has been an 'easy' way out because it has been very difficult for me and even though I am now healed from my op, then my emergency revision a week later, I have ongoing awful nausea and that is with being on antiemetics for it so after, so you know....tell who you are comfortable with. No right or wrong, our own choice -
Can we just be for real ???
mcfluffington replied to november11's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
If I were younger getting Sexy Back would be a prime motivator. But at this point I just want to be more physically able and not have people judge me because of my size. That happened for me initially at 200lbs and I want it back. I am dieting and hoping for a revision soon if my insurance will allow it. -
Sleeve revision to mini vs full bypass
mcfluffington replied to Missynik's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
My surgeon says that DS/SIPS is more conducive to weight loss in a revision situation. I can't give you any first hand experience. I am hoping to have SIPS if for weight regain soon if my insurance okays it. I have read articles backing up the information given me by the surgeon. -
Sleeve revision to mini vs full bypass
gabybab replied to Missynik's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I'm considering a revision as well. I'm 8.5 months out and stalling. My Dr reccomend the ds, but I chose the sleeve. Wondering @GreenTealael are you asking about the other surgeries ds/sips because it is a better choice than rny? Good luck on future decisions! -
Sleeve revision to mini vs full bypass
Missynik posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Had sleeve 2015, lost 60 lbs, gained back 25 lbs. Considering revision, but unable to decide between MGB or RNY. As all surgeries, they both have pros and cons. Revisions typically lose slower. Looking for experiences with either surgery. Please share! -
Third Revision...
mountaingirlCO replied to Caela88's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I’m not the OP but looking at something similar and I WAS successful with the band (lost 115 lbs and was within 15 lbs of my goal) until I had a major slip and revised to the sleeve. I never had restriction with the revision to the sleeve but managed not to gain weight for 2 years until 3 years ago when I had a hysterectomy. Now I’ve gained back 50 of my original loss and am exploring a new surgical alternative after trying many other things for the last 3 years to get back on track. Looking at GB or DS now. -
Is there a reason you're not losing? are you have trouble? are is it just to lose more? I would start by looking at why it's not working. Is it your food choices? Overeating? Not exercising? The reason i'm saying this is because if its those things, a new WLS won't fix it for the long term. You have to start within. I would suggest, if you haven't already, get the myfitnesspal app. it showed me how much i was really eating vs what i thought i was eating. I had the band for 7+ years and maintained 89lbs.... but when the band was removed due to a slip.... i gained 30lbs. Sure it took 2.5 years... but i couldn't lose it. I thought i was doing everything right.....Then when i started the process of revising to the sleeve, i started logging everything.... I found i was making bad choices, overeating and not exercising as much as i thought i was. That was in July, i got sleeved Aug 28th...... and things are back on track.... but i'm still logging in my food and exercise. Keeps me accountable. Band 2009 SW: 232, LW: 130, weight at removal 143... Sleeve 2019 SW: 173.5 , Today 144.4..... Goal is to get back to 143 (1 more lb to go) or 140 if poss.

Getting a Revision - but OMG NOT because of weight regain!!!!
BayougirlMrsS replied to summerset's topic in Rants & Raves
I think your friend possibly got the wrong WLS from the start. 500lbs seems like a lot for the sleeve.... But, i'm new to the sleeve, so i don't know. What i do know is, he needs a better Dr. and/or Phy. Dr. Before he gets another WLS. My ex sister in law had 3 WLS's. Her first was Lapband in Mex, then Lapband in the states, then GB in the states. No counseling for the first, regained and revised, but she regained yet again. The last dr did the GB.... and yes, regain again. The dr.'s need to make sure patients are getting more counseling. -
sorry i meant to put 2017 its been 2 years since my surgery ,i want to revise it to any procedure to loose more weight

My surgery is Dec 6 and I still have not decided what I will be revising to, as soon as I make up my mind, I will find more information and change it again. Lol...I am so lost! I dont want this to be another failed surgery for me.
