This. Due to where the sleeve is made (we MGB'ers have one too, it's just not closed at the end), the stretch thing isn't all it's cracked up to be. The exception being if made by an RNY surgeon who makes it too high up in the stomach. And I mean ... it's perfectly okay to need the additional help a bypass provides. For some, the sleeve may simply not adjust the set point down far enough. If I had knee surgery and, despite my best efforts, I couldn't walk properly, I'd go in again. If I feel this surgery doesn't work well long-term, I'll call my team. No shame in that.* *of course, the mental side of eating and obesity could be what needs to be worked on. I'm typing this on my way to my bariatric therapist, as it were. Still going every 3 months to make sure I stay in a good mindset.

Awful diarrhoea 2 days post gastric bypass

While I didn't have bypass (I had sleeve), I did have diarrhea after the surgery and gas of course for just about 2 days, so this sounds normal to me. -
Need Help!! Feeling my weight loss has slowed down...stopped.
TheBusierBee posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hi Peeps, I had my Gastric bypass (RnY) on Aug 17. My stats are as follows. SW: 302 lbs Height: 169 cm. CW: 227 lbs. Total lost: 75 lbs Exercise: Walking 10km daily However, I'm feeling I'm not losing fast enough. Plus I've fallen off track with the festival season...been gorging on sweets, cakes and food. Just lost 8 pounds since November 15th. I'm worried that I'm going to ruin this. Any tips on how to lose faster as well as break this food addiction...can't seem to stop eating and feeling guilty after. Would really appreciate the help. Please help guys! Thank you. -

Sorry about the unpleasant topic but was wondering if anyone experienced diarrhoea and lots of gas from the bowel 2 days post op? I’m literally going to the toilet every half an hour with either wind or upset tummy. Is this normal?

Gastric bypass surgery
liveaboard15 replied to Jennifer ortiz's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Based on the study conducted by the University of Michigan, the average weekly weight loss of gastric bypass patients is around 5 to 15 lbs for the first two to three months. It starts to taper off to 1 to 2 lbs a week after six months. You should know that the rate of weight loss depends on the individual’s age, health, and starting weight. In addition, weight plateaus occur during the weight loss. However, if it lasts more than 6 weeks, then adjustments should be made. It is best for you to work with a dietician during this period. -
Anyone for October 2020?
Deb9386 replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So sorry to hear you're having these problems. If you haven't seen it already I'd suggest watching Dr Weiner's Youtube video about alcohol use after gastric bypass - the video and the comments are very interesting. Judging by what he says it seems that gastric surgery can trigger alcohol abuse, and that the same amount of alcohol will affect more strongly after surgery. He suggests that zero alcohol after gastric bypass is the best way - maybe keeping no alcohol at home at all? You're definitely not alone. I've been teetotal for nearly 35 years - I just wasn't interested in drinking alcohol at all - and I found his video a few months ago because I was trying to work out why all of a sudden after surgery I was craving an alcoholic drink - it's bizarre! The last thing I expected. But you've already overcome the food addiction and lost loads of weight - you can definitely overcome these cravings. Stay strong - life has been so rubbish with covid, but hopefully we're coming out the other side now. -
I had gastric bypass surgery December 6 2021. I regret doing the gastric bypass surgery. I haven't seen any significant weight loss since I did the surgery. I'am not losing anything I'm not happy. I feel like I wasted my time getting the gastric bypass. I'm eating healthy but nothing is changing I feel stuck.

Hey There! Any December 2021 Surgery Friends?

14 days post op today I just can’t believe it has already been 14 days! I finally started loosing again. I did a 4 day stall. My sister had bypass 25 years ago and her daughter did too 5 years ago thank god because even though I had the sleeve I don’t know what I would do without my sisters help and wisdom! I am down 11 pounds since surgery which my sister said is really good especially since I only had 80 to loose preop. I guess I am more impatient than I had ever realized lol I hope everyone’s doing good - feeling way better today but my port site above the belly button still hurts a lot for some reason. - I am going to only weigh in and do measurements on Weds from now on. Btw - I was 41 inches in my waist preop and today I was 35 inches in my waist! I think I’m pretty sure where I lost most the weight from! Have a great week everyone! -
I would talk to your surgery center. Sometimes belching and pain can be a sign that you're eating too fast, but I would talk to your surgery center to be sure. I know GERD is common after sleeve, but I haven't heard of it being an issue after bypass. Good luck!

1 Year Post OP and I think I am alcoholic
David_L replied to Coexister's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I walked away from cigarettes November of 2016 then booze a few months later. I was already over 300 lbs and I knew I had to start somewhere. I've been reading up on addiction transfer and it's real. This is not specific to the subject but might help get you started: https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/19033853-the-emotional-first-aid-kit?from_search=true&from_srp=true&qid=Ubhhurkvj4&rank=2 I'm also still fighting with what I call the "munchie monster" and I'm still working through my childhood traumas. I'm also re-reading Atomic Habits by James Clear and trying to incorporate little changes in my daily routine to ensure these habits and/or rituals become second nature. Alcohol destroyed my dad as it has many others. I hope you can find away to address what's really going on and start walking down a healthier path. I'm here to vent to or talk to if you need . -

Am I really gonna lose weight?
Myrandalynn06 replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I had the lapband in 2009 and due to complications had to get it removed and got the bypass all fairly quickly and I had the revision on 12/15. I struggled with post op diet until this week when I started to eat some puréed foods but I am just not losing weight. Emotionally really frustrating that I went through all this and not seeing results. -
Am I really gonna lose weight?
Tufflaw replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Originally I started at 315, got sleeved in late December 2016, made it all the way down to 195 in about 7 months or so. I had several major issues in a short amount of time, including losing my job, having a health issue with one of my children, starting my own business and then losing it, so I had a lot going on and didn't focus on keeping with the program. When I started my two-week fast at the beginning of November 2021 in preparation for revision surgery, I was about 293. -
Anyone for October 2020?
Coexister replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am post op bypass 13 months ( surgery was 10/07/2020) ) and am I now drinking alcohol every night . I have gained back a few pounds Like 8 and am scared to death. I feel like I am heading back toward terrible habits and need to regain back control now. I am working with a Psychologist that's not very good for PTSD issues and major depressive disorder. I have got control of that but I have now a new problem= alcohol! A year ago, I would never think of drinking on a week night or much at all but now it's become my new addiction and it leads to me over eating and then the dreaded weight gain. I have now drank every night for the past two months and I can't seem too let it go. This had never been me before as my family is filled with alcoholics and I could never understand it and now I do? It kills pain and drowns out so much. It definitely affects me differently after surgery and takes very little to have any affect at all. I am drunk or affected at sip 3. It is such a great escapism and good lord with Covid and the way of the world all I want to do is escape in a legal way and alcohol is legal. I am on disability and have a lot of pain issues and the doctors and psych's try to say its a lot mental / PTSD/ Stress related but they haven't lived in my body. I have had over 15 surgeries and have had many scars and all kinds of mesh - They don't live this body and don't feel my pain. They tell me I need to learn to live with it. Well hell , I am doing the best I can and alcohol does a great job of dimming that. But I know I need to find a better answer and am looking to my community as I know I can't be alone in my pain or journey. My New Year's resolution is to get back to that person that doesn't drink in response to pain. That learns to deal with it. That get's her weight under control in the meantime. Sending out an SOS to my community and asking for good advice or just shared empathy to know I am not the only one and that we do not travel on this journey alone. -

Am I really gonna lose weight?
Tufflaw replied to Myrandalynn06's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
Not to be cliche, but if you think you'll succeed or fail - you're right. You need to have the right mindset going into this. I did very well with my sleeve that I got in 2016, until I started slipping and put it all back on. Five years later I got the revision to bypass 6 weeks ago and it's going very well again, except now I know what to watch out for and how to (hopefully) avoid the pitfalls of last time. Believe that it will work, and do everything you can to help it work, and it will work. -
Vaping after Surgery
Michelle B7 replied to Stars3825's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It’s okay there is no tabacco or Nicotine involved it’ll be fine as long as you are doing a mouth to lung hit it’ll bypass the stomach it is only flavoring and vegetable glycerin VG is found in almost everything consumable cakes, all other sweets, all canned beans as well. It is the nicotine which is the hardest to quit. -
How did you figure out if you had dumping syndrome?
pintsizedmallrat replied to DaisyAndSunshine's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The single incident of dumping syndrome I've had was banana baby food about 3 weeks after my surgery--and I didn't know that's what it was at the time because I have a sleeve and I thought dumping only happened to bypass patients...but I fainted in the bathroom after having made a mad dash due to "urgency". My SO called an ambulance and I ended up in the ER, and it was there after they consulted with my surgeon's office that they told me it was likely dumping syndrome. That was the first time I had sugar after my procedure and I've since been able to eat limited amounts of other fruits (I'm 3 1/2 months post-op now), but I had to proceed with caution when introducing them. -
Feel like I'm starving, Day 6
LouLouM replied to LouLouM's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm updating here because I know that when I have a question, I search the forums looking for content similar to what I'm going through. My surgery was November 30th, which I think puts me in week 5, and although I can't just anything, I am definitely eating a lot more solid food and I have to say that I am way more satiated and full for much longer. So for anyone in the very early phases who might be feeling crazy hungry and discouraged, it's gets way better, very early on! Hang in there! -
Gastric Bypass peeps, how did you deal with these ingredients post op?
fourmonthspreop posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Hey! I'm scheduled for surgery (gastric bypass) in February. I've been relying on protein shakes and some ketogenic friendly sweeteners as meal replacements to get use to drinking my calories instead of eating them. I wanna know if you've tried any of these ingredients post op and how they made you feel: - Vanilla premier protein - unsweetened cocoa powder - Swerve sugar replacement - blended strawberry, blackberries and blueberries (no added sugar) -Isopure unflavored powder -unsweetened almond milk -black beans (not in smoothies, just in general, mashed) Thanks! Happy New Year to you all Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
I am almost 4 weeks post op and have never had nausea until last couple days. Is that weird? It’s not while I’m eating or shortly before or after - could it be dehydration?
