    My first NSV!!!

OMG!!!! This morning were getting ready to go to the stock show, so I was trying to decide which jeans to put on when I ran across my size 16 Lee's. I haven't been able to wear them in almost 2 years, but this morning they slid right on with no problems!!! I can't believe I'm finally seeing a result from having this lapband!!!

    I Have To Crow

This is a nsv and a rave and tooting my own horn. I don't necessarily like bragging about myself so ill do it in a relatively anonymous place such as this. A few months ago, I submitted a proposal to do a workshop at a national convention I go to every year. I had convinced myself I didn't have enough credentials, enough letters after my name, etc and I would not get picked. I wrote my proposal in about an hour, sent it and forgot about it. So yesterday I got a letter stating they had approved me to do my workshop at the convention. I' was so shocked I just started to cry. It's not until April so I thankfully have lots of time to get prepared and be nervous. What an amazing week this has been. First I was sleeved now this! And the best part is I'm going to enjoy going shopping for a new outfit to wear to give the workshop! Yes, I'll be skinny by April! I'm just over the moon. Thank you all for letting me brag a little.

    Nsv!!!

What is an NSV? I'm new and see it mentioned everywhere but I guess everyone else knows what it means. Brian

    Nsv!!!

Way To Go Ray!!!!! NSV are so nice arent they! My tummy makes all kinds of noises.. I just tell it "Shhhhhhh already" hehe
  5. For every 10 pounds lost, I buy a charm/bead for my Pandora bracelet. Each charm somehow represents a part of my journey. (I have a dog because my dog, Truman, is my personal trainer; I have a gym shoe; etc. I'm about to buy one that represents the story The Princess and the Pea because now that I'm thinner, I feel every lump and bump in clothing and in bed! LOL) In addition to buying charms when I hit 10 pounds down, I have commemorated certain milestones with a charm, as well--getting under 200 pounds, losing 50 pounds, losing 75 pounds. By the time I reach goal, the bracelet will be full. Otherwise, my rewards have been new jeans that fit every now and then. And all kinds of NSVs. When I hit goal, I hope to have plastic surgery to rearrange all these body parts that are so much smaller and further south.
  6. Hi juzme, what you are feeling is completely normal. I'd be surprised to find a handful of folks who didn't feel even a little nervous going into surgery. It's a scary thing! Especially since all of us have chosen to do this ourselves - not because the Dr's told us we had to or else. Which in my opinion it should be the case. The sleeve has quite literally saved my life! Knowing this, It's just my opinion that I HAD to have this done. Do your best to keep your mind occupied on other things. Maybe bury yourself in a good book to get your mind going off in a completely different direction. Then when you get out of surgery and are lying around wondering what you will do with all your time, you can finish up the story.. LOL Also, maybe you can go clothing shopping online or in the store. Buy yourself a goal outfit!! Then one day when you fit into it and you realize it was sooner than you expected, you will have a really nice NSV to come here and tell us about. I know it's fun because I did this!! I had to go back out and buy the same pants two sizes smaller for a new set of goal pants. Wishing you well on your upcoming surgery!!!

    Hello Century Club (Pics)

Congratulations to you!! And what terrific NSV's, too!
  8. When you go to pull on your Spanx and realize you've out skinny-ed them!!! I think going down a size in compression garments is 10x more exciting for me than going down a dress size. NSVs are really the greatest motivation in this journey.
  9. I had to poke another hole in my belt with an ice pick today. Pants were falling down again. Love it! I also had to cut the first part of the belt down because the tail was too long, traveling through 2 belt loops after I buckled it. I will need a new belt soon. Went from a 46 waist pants to a very saggy loose 40 now. BMI has went from 48 to 39 which takes me out of the morbidly obese category and now I'm just plain obese. Thought I would share. This sleeved life is good! 60 lbs down and 70 to go. I'm 2 months out. Woo hoo!!

    Small NSV

That's no small NSV in my book. You are doing amazing work! Just think 60 lbs in 2 months would have been unthinkable and you are totally rocking it!

    A crazy NSV

Yes it's true, I've been Up and Down with my weight for the last almost 20 years. I've never been thin as an adult, only since being a young teenager, then shortly after I got married and stopped doing things to keep myself thin. I gained that weight pretty quickly. You do have a lot to look forward to, and that's a lot less of you. NSV's are my favorites. The scale going down is nice, but I'm telling you, it's the little things that keep reminding me that I'm doing mighty fine. Good luck!!!

    A crazy NSV

Hahaaa!!! Truly awesome isn't it??? Thanks girlie!! This is so very very true. You hit the nail on the head, because being obese we carry more weight on our shoulders than we do on our whole bodies. Our lives, the air we breath, our every thought is consumed by being heavy. I know that feeling too well wondering if that chair with the sides is going to be able to work on my giant frame. Or if I step on a step stool, will it break underneath me??? - that kind of thing. It's so sad and is becoming more a memory for me every day - but I still find myself thinking like this from time to time. I have to remind myself, that yes - I can fit in those tiny seats at the sporting event and all that kind of stuff... and believe it those seats are tiny!!! Now I'm fitting in them with even a little wiggle room. It's pretty cool. I do really love this NSV because for once in about 20 years, I'm actually being considered of normal size. I never imagined I would be here already barely 6 months out when I was looking up at those lights getting ready to take a deep nap and wake up with no stomach (and no band! ). Cheers!!!
  13. Hello Ladies and Gents, How many of us have bought a pair of trousers that you have not tried on first??? My trousers that I did not try on came from Ebay, I bought them for work but they were beyond tight so I relegated them to the back of the wardrobe! I tried them on now and again but they never fitted and then I really starting putting on weight. Any way it’s near laundry day and all my regular trousers are getting a bit big, pulls out the abandoned trousers and low and behold they fit perfectly! SCORE! Now wearing said trousers! Whoop Whoop! KiKi XX Hope you are all having a good day!

    Wishing I Could.....

@ Justine13: Well they go up to a 3X so I'm hoping I can realistically be in a 1X-2X by November. That would be at least a 50 lbs total weight loss for me. I have a lot to lose. I have my "skinny" clothes on hand in the house and I don't foresee buying anything new except bras, underwear and pants as the weight comes off. I have a whole stable of black pants and leggings on hand, but none have belt loops or zippers. They truly are my "big girl" pants with the elastic waist. I just can't wait to feel comfortable in my own skin. Just comfortable being able to cross my legs like a lady, wear a mini-skirt on "date night," sit comfortably at a booth in a restaurant, not have to request a seat belt extender on the plane, and sit Indian style on the floor w/o effort. Little rewards like that, I want to experience. I think the lingo on the forum is NSV (non scale victory). I think I got it right?....LOL. I just look forward to what I will be able to accomplish with this new tool (The Sleeve) to help me with my weight loss and health. Sigh...Lots of work to do!

    Wishing I Could.....

Yes, there's a lot of work to do, but it's SO worth it when you start having those NSV's !!!

NSV (Non Scale Victory) Read me Read me!

I had a similar NSV last week, KiKi. I have a pile of pants in the back of my closet that are various sizes from 22-26 that I have pushed to the back as my weight went up. I noticed in the grocery store one day last week that I was "sagging" (as the kids say) and the only thing keeping my size 26 pants from hitting the floor was my hips. So when I got home, I started pulling out the 24s and they fit comfortably!! All the 26s are now in the Good Will bag!
  17. AWESOME! Congrats on your NSV It's always such a great feeling to have someone outside the lap band bubble see and comment on all our hard work
  18. justmel1957

Why am I still holding on to those clothes?

I guess I'm just the opposite..............I LUV purging the closet, bagging things up and moving them out. I feel such a sense of accomplishment when I'm done. One of those NSV's for sure. I've been buying cheaper "transition" clothes from places like Cato's and have even found some designer pieces at our local Goodwill to get me thru the falling sizes.
  19. I just had to post this. I've been struggling the last couple of months. Seems I've been gaining & losing the same 6-10 pounds. Through this all, I've been going to the gym several times a week. 1. 2 weeks ago I ran into an intern who was returning to work after being away from our company since last (late) July. I was headed out of our office building and he was heading in. I said Hey--glad to see you're back, what's going on! He had a funny look on his face but he was unfailingly polite when we spoke. Cut to last night. He and I and a couple of others went out last night to have a couple of beers (beer, I know). He said, you know, when I saw you a couple of weeks ago, I simply didn't recognize you.. You look alot different. 2. I was told by two different people yesterday that I looked "thin" I told them it was because I had my shirt tucked in, was wearing a belt and had shoes with heels that made me around 6"tall. 3. Able to wear a size of 14 long jeans from American Eagle! The thin part isn't so true, but OMG what a wonderful thing to hear. Take that scale:)
  20. I took a leap of faith today. I purged my closet of the largest sized clothing (26). I decided to do it considering the weight I've lost already and that since returning to work I experimented with wearing some blouses that had gotten too tight. It was definitely my first NSV.

    Jessiebear's complete list of NSVs...

I updated my NSVs so I am bumping this thread!
  22. all the answers and advice you were given are right on. i am one of the ones that does not weigh myself at home. only at my surgeons office. i don't want the scale to determine my mood or eating habit for the day. please read the nsv's. non scale victories. they are what you should be basing things on. such as, energy level, fitting in clothes better, being able to move much easier, and doing something positive for yourself is such a high. lapbanders on a whole is not about great fast weight loss, its all about how, what , and how much we are eating. 4lbs to 5lbs a month is what to expect. good luck and keep a positive attitude, you are winning this battle.
  23. sorry.karen... what does NSVs stand for... still pretty new to this forum so i don't know all the abbreviations... yet.. lol THANKS FOR ALL THE COMMENTS GANG...
  24. Ok, I've had to do some journaling to stop and change perspective. Instead of focusing on what's ahead of me, to focus on what's happening today and what I've done this week. 1) Stopped drinking alcohol and I have only wanted to have a drink last night when **** hit the fan at home. 2) Stopped drinking soda and didn't miss it, crave it or anything. 3) Have gotten better about watiting at least 30 min between eating & drinking fluids 4) Consistenly getting about 68 oz of fluids each day 5) Reduced my caffiene intake (on 1/2 caff, not extra bold) coffee. I had caffeine withdrawal one day, and I've been fine since 6) Started exercising each day on my bike at home. 7) Started logging my food again and wearing my fitbit 8) Writing in my journal daily about EVERYTHING! That's a lot ot accomplish and I'm just gonna focus on this for today!
  25. ONNNNNNNNEEDDEERRRRRRRRRLLAAANNNNNNNNDD!!!!! I am thrilled to have reached onederland! I have not been here for at least a decade! The first 40 pounds to come off after VSG have been off and back on several times over the years. But I am finally past that point and I could not believe it! Last week I posted a NSV about a towel and finally felt like I too was experiencing some of the successes I was reading that others experienced. It really helped me start to believe that I too could succeed with this. Now at onederland, I am beyond excited and really feel I CAN reach goal. I am getting lots of comments from people on the way I look, no only about my weight, but about looking happy and healthy, etc. I think my increased confidence is showing. I feel so liberated from from the constant negative background chatter that told me that no matter what I accomplish I am such a failure. It is THE BIGGEST WEIGHT this VSG has lifted. I have a ways to go but I really believe I will ge there. Thank you all for your posts, stories and encouraging messages. They have really helped me stay focused, helped commiserate in the downs, and have uplifted my spirits when I needed it. Best wishes to everyone on this journey! May the pounds continue to fall off!!! -- and stay off for those of you in maintenance! Below, evidence
