Gastric Bypass WITH stomach removal
liveaboard15 replied to Quesodip251's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So Gastric bypass is technically reversible. unlike Sleeve. But by doing that and removing that part of the stomach its no longer reversible. Tho i never heard of anyone getting it reversed. -
Gastric Bypass WITH stomach removal
Quesodip251 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi! So I had gastric bypass on 4/26 and found out after surgery that my surgeon removed part of my stomach like they do with the VSG. He said it was to remove the ghrelin hormone. Has anyone else had this done? He said it wasn’t a duodenal switch but gastric bypass. -
Surgeon recommendations in Tijuana for mini gastric bypass from sleeve
Ninabnina77 replied to Thisisgonnabegreat!'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
I really feel like OCC failed me in the nutritionist department, especially since one of the reasons I payed so much more money to go to them was because the promise 5 years of post op nutritionist support. No I am not getting the mini bypass at occ. I have been considering Dr Illian or Dr Rutledge (The creator of the MGB) for the mini gastric bypass. Now I heard about Dr. Ponce, kind of looking into her too. To tell you the truth I am debating on the gastric bypass and the mini gastric bypass. I don't know which one I will choose. If I had to do it again I would have gone straight for the bypass or the MGB. I am a binge eater and I am always hungry after doing the VSG, because of this I think I would have benefited from getting the byor the MGB from thr beginning. If I could have done it differently, I wish I could have e gotten my surgery here in the USA. My friends who got their surgery here in the USA all get south support pre and post op from their doctors and the staff. The support they get is amazing. The one thing I would do differently this time when or if I get the revision is work out a lot post op. I struggled with lack of energy and enthusiasm and did not work out post vsg. As far as the diet goes, IDK, I am still trying to figure this part out. I hope the next Dr. I chose for revisional surgery's office will provide better support when it comes to nutrition and diet post op. Or if they dont, and I have not paid extra for it, I wonfeel this bad. As far as Dr. Ortiz goes, I highly recommend him, he is super sweet and an excellent surgeon. Sorry for the delay in reply, this app doez not show that I have new messages, I some how found your comment back to my post accidentally. Sent from my SM-G991U1 using BariatricPal mobile app -

Surgeon recommendations in Tijuana for mini gastric bypass from sleeve
CGA70 replied to Thisisgonnabegreat!'s topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thank you so much for this info! I am getting the sleeve on May 20. I chose OCC because of the great reviews, accreditation, and the follow-up post surgery nutrition info. Are you getting the mini-bypass at OCC? What would you do differently on the nutrition side if you were now getting sleeve? Would you get sleeve or Judy go right to bypass? Thank you again - you’re the first person I’ve met that went to OCC? -

April 2022 Surgery Buddies
tkkilen replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello everyone I am new here. I found this site and found it very helpful during this process. I got gastric bypass on 4/18. I was so scared before the surgery. Now I wish I had this done many years ago. I would say problems I had were constipation ( no bowel movement for 11 days. I always had constipation but this was extreme. I am on linzess and now lactulose solution 10 ml 3x daily. I also had problems consuming enough protein liquid. I got 2 flavors of isopure. Yuck… I hate it! I forced myself to drink at least 1 bottle per day. Now I am on purée food. I am still trying to figure out what to purée and not. I am not much of a cook so this part is very hard for me. So far puréed cod fish, yam, green beans. Cottage cheese, triple zero yogurt, premiers protein shake….( also yuck! ) I miss my Korean food! I have only lost 10 lbs. pre liquid I lost 13 lbs in 5 days. I am confused why I am not losing any weight at this point hopefully someone can give me some feedback. Thank you everyone for your posts and I am glad to be here. -
Post-op tips/necessities

No recliner but I second the wedge. I had one handy due to years of gerd, and it made me so much more comfortable when I got home from my revision. I didn't like my hospital bed at all. Sent from my SM-S908U using BariatricPal mobile app -

I’m learning a lot from reading others posts and also learning that sometimes doctors don’t 100% prepare us for our return home I’m thinking it’s because they don’t know first hand what it’s like to recover from WLS? I dunno, whatever the reason it’d be nice to have this post to refer to when I’m post-op (I’m getting roux en y gastric bypass) So, give me all your best tips for recovery and necessities. What did you need and wish you had readily available? Thanks in advance!!! -
Constipation after gastric sleeve surgery
catwoman7 replied to Happy Stylist's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
very common with both sleeve and bypass. And just as a heads up, chronic constipation (even after the first BM) is pretty common, too. the first BM can take up to a week and can be a real doozy, so we were advised to take stool softeners. after that one, a lot of us take a capful of Miralax every day to stay on top of constipation - although others take stool softeners, probiotics, SmoothMove tea, or magnesium tablets. Whatever works... -
I had my mini gastric bypass on April 26th and I’ve had non stop gas pain. GasX seems to work a little bit but not as much as I expected. I was vomiting for 24 hours straight post surgery and I kept taking gravol which of course made me drowsy . So I couldn’t walk as much as I had hoped. Today is the first day where I feel a tad better. I should mention though my heating pad was my saviour. Good luck with your progress.

Iron Deficiency Anemia-- Best tolerated supplements?
The Greater Fool replied to Tink22-sleeve's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I take Slow-FE, which is time released, so not hard on stomach or constipation. I've had Gastric Bypass and concerned about time-released, which on other meds has been a problem, but I apparently absorb enough to deal with my anemia issues. Available everywhere. Good luck, Tek -
Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?
3catnight replied to 3catnight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
My surgeon encouraged me to choose the sleeve over bypass because the previous hernia surgery is less likely to cause complications with the sleeve. And I'd like to eventually be able to take anti-inflammatory meds again. My mom had bypass 14 years ago and she can't take anything much for her arthritis because anti-inflammatory meds burn her stomach. I don't want to be in the same boat when I'm her age. -
Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to 3catnight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Some Lap Band and VSG patients end up developing GERD or reflux several years post op those two weight loss surgeries. I'm one of them (Lap Band). Both surgeries operate under a high pressure system and years later for whatever reason the high pressure placed on the esophageal sphincter causes reflux/GERD. So now I'm awaiting revision. My surgeon told me that anyone with reflux or GERD currently or in the past, she recommends RNY. Sure repairing the hernia now will fix the reflux issue currently. But then years later you may be impacted by reflux/GERD again due to the high pressure on the esopageal sphincter (nothing to do with a hernia). When that happens to "cure" the reflux/GERD many revise to RNY. -
Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?

I had occassional GERD/heartburn when I overate prior to surgery. I am 7.5 months out and I've only had heartburn once - after eating crackers. I know many people get hiatal hernia repairs with sleeve. But I'd ask your doctor whether they recommend bypass or sleeve. -

I am not in a similar situation not but wonder if you have reason to choose sleeve instead of bypass. Many people with history of gerd opt for bypass. -
Who experienced heartburn or GERD after gastric sleeve?
liveaboard15 replied to 3catnight's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got the sleeve on April 18th. I have had a few days where the reflux was extremely painful. I have yet been unable to lay down to sleep because of it. I am on a medication for 30 days called pantoprazole 40mg. It worries me a lot because i cant afford to get a revision. I never had this issue before surgery. If you have heartburn. Getting the bypass may be best. It basically eliminates GERD for most people. -
May 11 for VSG to RNY revision. Due to reflux.
-
My surgery is scheduled for Monday, May 2nd! I'm starting to get nervous. My previous Nissen Fundoplication (hiatal hernia surgery) has to be revised and hopefully the surgeon will be able to do the gastric sleeve at the same time. If not, it will be a few months before he can do the sleeve. But he thinks he'll be able to do both at the same time. I've been on my liquid diet since Sunday and it's going well. I've been pleasantly surprised. I was dreading it, but I haven't been as hungry as I expected.

May 11 for Revision from VSG to RNY for reflux. Sorry, I posted in the wrong forum.

May Surgery Buddies
The Traveler replied to The Traveler's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Just heard today that my surgery is a go ahead (assuming a negative COVID test on Saturday) for next Tuesday. I am an American living in Belgium, and was surprised at the hoops you have to jump through to get the surgery I had a gastroscopy and gallbladder ultrasounds, meetings with the endocrinologist, heart specialist, bypass surgeon, dietician, and psychologist. In addition, there was a blood test, urine test, and sleep study. To qualify for insurance you need to either have a bmi over 40 or a bmi over 35 with an additional co-mortality of either high blood pressure, diabetes or sleep apnea. Luckily, I failed the sleep exam as the other co-mortalities were not applicable for me. Gastric bypass is close to 6000 euros, but normal health insurance covers 5000 of it. Luckily, I have another insurance that will cover the rest. What is it like in other countries?
