    How Is Everyone?

Just checking in with everyone to see how you all are? It's been hard consistently getting on here. I need to make it a priority because it keeps me accountable. What ups & downs has everyone experienced? What NSV's are super exciting? How is the family/friends support? Feel free to add any other topics! Just curious to see how we are all progressing! Mags

    Revelations/NSVs at Two Weeks

I think starting a diet or new lifestyle is one area where nature is kind. I always find the weight pours off at first and just when that fast ride stops is when the NSV's start, keeps you going a bit longer. You're dong great.
  6. Just sharing: Yesterday, the UPS delivery man brought boxes to my front door. I opened the garage door for him to stack them there, and he got to see me full-length. He said (hesitantly, but with big eyes), " Are you...the same lady who's been living here?" (I've lived in this house for 19 years) "Yes, it's me." "Oh my God. You look fantastic! I would not have recognized you!" [eyes and mouth open wide in awe.] I was actually wearing my old, oversized baggy (and raggedy) sweat pants and an old blouse (with a hole in it)--my 'cleaning the house' outfit. I held them out to show how baggy everything was, and said "I know I look a mess with this stuff on, but yea, 70 pounds gone," I said. He said, "I can only imagine how you look with other stuff on because you look fabulous." It was nice to hear that; and he obviously remembered me because he reminded me of some past deliveries he'd made to my home; he rememberd my line of work, etc. 'Twas a nice NSV on a rainy, foggy day.

Most candid shots of me, throughout my entire life, have typically been mortifying. Lately I've been noticing that I don't hate (even like?) them! THAT is a pretty awesome NSV!!

I can wear shoes with shoestrings. And Tie them myself. My pants are looser. My neck is shrinking Less fat wrinkles on back of neck. Dowager's hump etc. Able to get up and down while laying laminate flooring. Aunt gave me a new shirt in large, it's snug. Playing golf is fun again. I can Sit in a chair with my legs tucked up beside me comfortably! Shirts hang down straighter instead of up and over my tummy. My tummy doesn't drive the car anymore...I do in more ways than one!

guys sorry for askin (seems i'm too blonde) but what does it mean NSV?
  15. Marimaru

    Sarah's NSV List

It's been a long time, I had an NSV today, so I figured I'd try and thing of any that I'd had since the last time I updated. The one from today, is that on the 8th of April, my sister gave me an anklet as a bridesmaids gift, but it didn't fit right. It had extra chain, so I was able to mess with it and get it to work so I could wear it, but it wasn't the way it was intended to be buckled. This morning when I went to put it on, I was able to get the clasp together without a problem at all. I suppose it's an NSV that I finally got a new hairstyle. My hair has been the same for like 10 years or something like that, and I finally did something with it for my sisters wedding. It's all layered and highlighted now. It looks much better, lol. I guess I can't really think of anything else. I'll try and come up with more..
  16. New Friends and Triumphs I had the greatest 5 hour chat with my newest friend from LBT last night, who is now back on her feet with her weight loss after regaining and then at some point, standing still with her weight. I am extremely proud of her and happy she is seeing instant results this past week after working extremely hard physically and really cutting back on food. I also have another friend whom I am extremely proud of. She has lost 8lbs on her very own in the past week and is not even banded. She's learning from the forum threads on what to do and what not to do and she's doing it. I have no words that would describe how proud I really am of her. It was refreshing to know that some of the threads and posts I have done or participated in have somehow helped motivate some people to do more, eat less and switch things up to get the scale moving again. What I Post Everything that I post here is not sensationalized. What I post here is what I really do and I live by my word. If I promise to do something, I 100% wholeheartedly do it. I won't sugar coat anything and I won't lie about what I am doing. I will never lie about my weight, about what I eat and what I drink. I will never cheat myself in that aspect. If I mess up, I will honestly tell you that I messed up. I have gained momentum in my weight loss journey, more so now since I found LBT. I am learning so much from other members on here. Especially what not to do. I enjoy reading NSV's, 100lb weight loss accomplishments and New Onderlanders. Reading positive posts is what keeps my momentum going. What Are We Doing? Not Doing? People, EXERCISE, PORTION CONTROL, Water, CALORIC INTAKE AND CARVING OUT CERTAIN CARBS (JUNK)is the key. Let's not play ignorant. We all see it repeatedly here in the posts we read. We see what people eat and that they don't exercise and wonder why they aren't losing or are slowly losing. :violin: Yes It is hard to give up certain comfort foods. (Hard is a 4 letter word) Yes, there are genuine reasons people can't exercise everyday (Health issues, arthritis, excessive weight/pain or new to surgery, etc.) BUT there is no excuse for the kind of food you put in your mouths. The choices we make is all free will, will power and all that jazz. If you are in the supermarket and are thirsty... pick up Dasani water instead of Mountain Dew. You honestly know that you are not supposed to drink that stuff. I don't need to tell you that you shouldn't have that crap and I'm sure you don't want to hear it from me either. If you are here to lose weight, equip yourself with knowledge. I'm trying to share with you here what I am learning. We are all here to share our stories of triumph and loss and to learn from them. It makes no sense to ask a question, then get really good answers and advice and then not take it or brush it off and say that's not what you are looking to hear. What Got Me Here Food - Bad eating behavior Self Abuse - Exercise (lack) How I Changed That Got a home equity line of credit to pay for surgery My bike My treadmill My jumprope My bodyball My freewill and willpower My waterbottle My Own Personal Triumph My latest triumph is losing weight after my band surgery and keeping it off 3 weeks yesterday. My Blessing My blessing - having a home with enough equity to get funding to have the surgery. Everyone knows what they are eating and knows honestly if they are not working out. Don't lie to yourself. I don't care if I annoy you or if you turn your nose up at me. I am not here to hug you when you binge on a pint of Haagen Daas and tell you that it's ok. It's not ok! We all got here because somewhere along the lines we have done something we shouldn't have done. Some of you continue to do it. Something To Think About If you take the total cost of your surgery, plane or airfare, repeat fillings and other operations associated with weight loss and divide it by the amount of weight you want to lose, you'll get a cost per pound. My cost per lb. $10,600.00 for surgery. $580.00 for airfare. No fills so far and no other surgeries or doctors visits. Totals = $11,180.00 divided by 105lbs (I plan on losing) and this does not include the 7% interest I am paying on the loan. It has cost me soo far, $106.47 per pound. Hypothetically speaking, if I stopped losing weight and stay where I am, which is as of this morning -27lbs down, that would mean it cost me $414.07 per pound. I can't live with knowing I'm spending that much money for nothing. I am here to lose weight and to help motivate others to do so. Yes, I am a new bandster and I don't know half as much as other bandsters but I do know that what I am doing is working.
  17. Just had to share my great NSV this weekend with you guys.....went to a wedding this weekend. First of all, usually hate these types of social events since you need to "dress up", but not this time! Got a new outfit that not only looked great, but it was comfortable too....hubby told me I looked great several times:biggrin1: . Then to top things off....I danced all night long and had a blast. I have not danced at a social event for years, but last night I "cut a rug", my friends. Felt confident, felt good and had fun....life is good!!!!

    Whoo, whoo....great NSV this weekend!!

You go, Margo!!! Doesn't it feel good to feel GOOD?! That's an excellent NSV. Compliments from hubby are wonderful, too. Well done! Hey, where's the pics?
  19. Today was my annual physical with my PCP. My sleeve was 9-20-12. Since then, I've lost 33 lbs. I went to the appointment, for once, with nothing weighing heavily on my mind like: "I am going to have to get on that stupid scale again." or "What's the point in blood work? It's all going to be crap anyway." then there's "We're going to have to consider putting you on some diabetic medication this time....". I sat there next to hubs and was playing a game of words with friends, chatting with him and rather relaxed. He, on the other hand, was anticipating the prostate exam! Muahahahahahha! When the doc walked in, I was on the exam table. I turned to greet him and he stopped and said, "Joisey, you look GREAT!" He and I talked previously of my having the sleeve done. He gave me his full support and wrote a letter to my surgeon to give his consent for me to have the surgery. I guess he forgot about it. He looked at my chart and looked at me and couldn't believe how much weight I've lost. I'm not sure who was prouder of me. Him or me? It was really great to get that support today. We talked about all of my co-morbidities. He's not concerned at all about my cholesterol. It'll continue to resolve itself with losing more weight. We did blood work to check all the levels. We'll find out next week how things look when the results come in. Diabetic medication wasn't even brought up. My blood pressure was 113/70. I have to stay on the Nexium because of the sleeve. I can go off my blood pressure medication immediately. I guess today's visit was an unexpected fabulous NSV. Have a GREAT weekend, all!

    NSV

I doubt I can out do you girls with your NSV's but I will list a few of mine.. At age 68 1/2 I feel like a kid again. My diabetes is gone, My high blood pressure is gone and my cholesterol is normal. I am happy to park way out in the lot at the store so I can walk. I ride my horse again and can clean my own house without collapsing In a chair. Lord knows it's great to be able to wear normal size clothes and not dread special occasions anymore because of looking like a stuffed sausage. I am looking forward to going to Alaska in August and know that without my band I would not physically be able to enjoy the trip. I promised myself I would ride horses in Alaska . *It's on my bucket list. I hope to continue being healthy and happy as long as possible. I can do all the other things you guys listed like shaving my legs, bathing etc. So happy to see all of these positive Bandsters here , get tired of the negative stuff.

Do you keep your 'fat' clothes?

These posts are great, thanks!! Seems I'm not the only one who is still amazed that we don't have to plan on the weight coming back on, like we always did before.... I loved the comment about clown pants; that is how a co-worker described a pair I wore a few weeks ago! They may have to go sooner than I thought they would. Last night my best friend (who has a BMI of about 42 and is watching my lapband experience very closely) came over I tried on a boatload of clothes for her evaluation. Some things I thought I could work she said to get rid of; "that looks too big on you", or "by the time winter rolls around and you can wear that item again, it will be too big for you, so there is no sense saving it!" It was great, since it made the process fun. My favorite part was holding up a nice pair of pants saying 'I don't think I can fit these yet', but trying anyway and omg they actually did fit! Guess that qualifies as a NSV, huh? I am happy to know the clothes will be put to good use by other people who need them, since keeping them tied up in storage totes seems like a foolish waste. As we worked our way through piles of clothes, it was crazy to see just how many things I had squirreled away. Bit of a wake-up call, to realize I have way too many clothes!! But I know it is because for so many years it has been easier (and cheaper) to get in the habit of keeping multiple sizes of clothing on hand, in order to accommodate the yo-yo dieting. Thanks for trying to help me accept that things are different this time; I am finally feeling confident about that new reality. It helps to hear about how other bandsters have managed this aspect of their weight loss journeys!

    12 Weeks Post-Op Success

I'm so happy for you. The little NSV's are awesome, aren't they? I had surgery the week before you and as far as weight lost and size lost we are fairly close, I'm down 42 lbs since 1/23. I love going through my clothes I saved ("because I won't be fat forever" is what I would tell myself). My 16's are getting loose and some 14's now fit. I too feel amazing, energy and confidence is way up! Everyday, I LOVE my sleeve. There are days that I feel like I will 'pig out', but after a few bites, my sleeve tells me I am done. Thank you, sleeve.
