    Lower BMI Gastric Sleeve Patients

Hey there!!!! Thank you SO MUCH for your response. Did you have your surgery in the US? Would you mind sharing where you were on weight an BMI? Was it really hard to adjust to life afterwards? Do you ever have issues with over eating, getting sick or being hungry? I'm always freaking hungry. Any foods you gave up 100%? I was 193lbs this AM. I'm a size 10. On the top I'm always bigger bc my arms are so thick. Also, I'm always hot and sweaty. Looking forward to not feeling big. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  2. Update: All, wanted to check in and let you know your kind words of advice and honest scolding has been super helpful! With the exception of seeing a counselor I was able to implement it all. Substituting more real protein for bars, ramping up the workout, bring why I did this back into focus, resetting my sleeve with shakes, cutting out the obvious BS (3 days of tortured carb abstenace to gain back control), watching and limiting the Fruit, small meals, working out in hotel gyms (I never stopped doing that), focusing on protein protein protein, sipping on water all day etc. And I am So happy to report that The results of these efforts have yielded a 7.7lb loss so far from the 10 gained, so I'm 2.3lbs away from lowest point I hit a month ago. A part of me wants to be mad... I should be loosing or at worst maintaining here! Not te-loosing previously lost pounds, but an even bigger part of me is just plain grateful... Grateful for being back on track, grateful to have been given Air in my lungs to have another day on Gods Green Earth, and grateful for you my dear journey mates, most of whom I will never meet, but who so faithfully and caringinly keep watch over each other and me. Thank you so much! I will continue to keep you posted!! My next challenge is daughters birthday party this weekend... There will be custom gourmet cupcakes in so many flavors. What does one do on kids birthday?? How to get through this temptation and potential leftovers (there will be lots of pizza!!), does one not celebrate this event with their children?? and one more thing...more work travel next week, so far all weight loss has been while at home so quite nervous about restarting the travel...

    Here I go....

Congrats on starting your journey, I also have BS/CA and approval was in less than a week... My surgeons office had me to do a 3 month supervised diet....that was their practices formality...not BS/CA which does not require any pre-diet anymore.

This liquid diet is killin me

I was sleeved May20, 2016 so I am 20 days post OP... I must admit it was VERY discouraging in the beginning. The pre-op and the Post Op diets as well. I had virtually a pain free procedure, only taking pain meds the 1st day. 2 days ago I was so upset that I had this surgery, but TODAY!!!! 20 must be the lucky number bc I finally feel AWESOME. So just keep pressing and seeking support. Take your Vitamins, gallbladder and gas meds and follow surgeons orders. It is well worth it in the end. GOOD LUCK...@@Km77942009

    Is your surgery a secret?

I am keeping my WLS to myself because I don't want to hear all the bs that people have to say and the dumb questions that come with them. And I don't need ppl dieting for me or telling me what I need to eat or do, etc. I took a page right from another friend who had the surgery. I had to have a mass removed and its pretty routine. It isn't a lie and simple. Leaves no real questions to be answered beyond, no its not cancerous.
  6. I have BS/CA and it took under 1 week. It really depends on your specific insurance co. Some can take up to 30 days but I think most will do within 2 weeks.
  7. Three days post-op and fed up of spending most of the night awake...

I also learned that today everything was sent to the insurance and now we're just waiting to hear back from them to be able to schedule a surgery date. I'm excited, nervous, anxious, and terrified all at the same time. Did anyone else have to have the scope preop precedure? How did u react to the anesthesia? Also, how long did it take to hear back from insurance? I have bcbs of illinois. Sent from my SM-G900T using the BariatricPal App

  13. Is your surgeon in a big, serious bariatric clinic? Like Duke or the Cleveland Clinic? BC the extra training necessary for this type of operation is huge....this isn't an operation done by just any surgeon. I would look to see if he is fellowship trained in bariatrics. Be very careful who you work with on this. Go to their support meetings and talk to others who have had the DS. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

    What are yall eating

I can eat sashimi (only raw fish) bc it's light and easy to go down. Almost all foods are hard for me to eat right now. I feel like is can live on sugar free Popsicles alone. I am only about 3 weeks out, so I hope this gets easier. I have zero appetite and feel weak. I drink water all day to stay hydrated but it is so hard to get food in, right now. Any advice?
  16. @@Kindle that is very similar to my approach to telling folks. I'd targeted losing almost half my bodyweight. There was no cover story that I cared to use to explain it. Telling them that I'd had VSG surgery and following the low-carb way of eating has been what I've shared when asked. I work in a manufacturing plant with 2,000+ employees. This conversation comes up almost every day. Some of the questions, I've found, are from folks considering the surgery for themselves or family members. Always fun to speak with them and answer anything they ask in a direct and no bs way.

    Swallowing Pills - any suggestions

I had my sleeve surgery on 4/13/16. So I'm almost 2 mo. out. Glad to finally make it to eating almost all foods. Here are some things that have caused slight problems. anyone else experience this. Hard to get these to move through stomach: --swallowing pills (even after cutting in half) --Fiber foods like cereals (raisin bran, Kashi) --whole grain oatmeal --crackers When you say "move through the stomach" what do you mean? Do you throw them up? Do they make you feel sick? How do you know they are "not moving through the stomach"? If you have a serious condition like gastroparesis, you should consult a doctor. Side note, I never touched cereals of any kind, or crackers, or any other thing with grain until I hit my goal weight. That stuff will not help you lose weight IMO. Also my weight loss has slowed. What helps most: exercise drinking lots of Water eating less, and only eating Protein and frozen veg eating NO sweets or Desserts The last two. Exercise is not terribly helpful when it comes to losing weight. As they say, the battle for weight loss is won in the kitchen, not in the gym. http://www.vox.com/2016/4/28/11518804/weight-loss-exercise-myth-burn-calories Focus on eating protein, green veggies, and healthy fats such as small amounts of nuts, olive oil, grass fed butter, etc. High carb foods like fruit and dairy should be in moderation and IMO stay away from sweets, grains, and high carb veggies such as potatoes. I try to eat yogurt with fruit when i want something sweet. Be careful about amounts and types of fruit and yogurt -- stick with Greek yogurt without much added sugar and lower carb fruits like berries and peaches (tropical fruits such as bananas and mangoes have tons of carbs and sugars). Also I have resumed drinking coffee in a.m. but not sure how to do it since you can't eat and drink at same time. So is it best to have a cup of coffee and wait 1 hr before Breakfast. Or to eat something first thing like an egg cooked, then wait an hr before having coffee? My plan doesn't call for waiting an hour before and after food for drinking, only waiting for 30 minutes after food for drinking. I love my coffee too much to wait! If I had to follow your plan, I would drink my coffee first, wait, then eat. But I think whatever works better for you is fine. Good luck!

  19. Hi, new here... I am wanting to obtain the gastric sleeve. I was wondering if anyone had the same insurance as myself and lived in Missouri that has gone through the sleeve process, who they used, and would they recommend them again? Thank you so much in advance. Congratulations to all of those that have been successful undergoing this procedure. I hope it works for me! 5"10.5 CW 286 Sent from my SM-N910V using the BariatricPal App

    PCOS Strikes again!

Even with the issues compromising your health, I don't think you're in immediate jeopardy to anything life-threatening due to PCOS and obesity at your age. If you were in your 60s it would be an entirely different matter. I would definitely hold off on having the hysterectomy. You're way too young for something so drastic. Have the surgery and then reassess your health in a year when you've hopefully made significant progress and had some of your symptoms abate. I also have PCOS, and it's the primary reason I had the VSG. My endocrinologist recommended it because it's benefitted other women my age (early 30s) and size with PCOS who are hoping to have children one day, and who also are wanting relief from their symptoms. This might be of interest to you: http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3334389/ and http://bariatrics.ucla.edu/body.cfm?id=115#pcos I'm seeing my doctor tomorrow for blood work. I've definitely had some relief from PCOS-related issues that plagued me before, like painful cystic acne and irregular cycles, but it took some time. The first couple of months were a bit of a hormonal roller coaster, then it became more steady. I very gradually tapered off spiro and bc and no longer take either. My periods began to normalize about 4 months post-op. I've lost weight at a slower pace, but I also was starting with a lower BMI, so that could have been an additional factor. I think you'll be pleased with the effects of WLS.
  21. I went through this as well and have many posts and received lots of help from this forum. What ended up happening in my situation is that it all worked out perfectly and I got approved. My surgeons office was just really late getting the updated info from my insurance (BS/CA). This was all after making several calls to the insurance and my Dr.s office. My surgeons practice is to have patients do 3 months regardless of what insurance requires. SO I did 3 months...really 4 because the first month (assessment) didn't count. My advice would be to call your insurance again and asked the rep if they can personally contact your surgeons office to inform them. OR get the direct line of the rep and give it to your surgeons office to contact them. I hate when they aren't up to date on these policies.....

    PCOS Strikes again!

I have to take BC pills to regulate my period due to my PCOS, I've taken it for over 10 years, at the moment I take Marlissa. I don't contribute the BC to any weight gain, as long as I do what I'm supposed to I still lose weight.
  23. My first appointment with my surgeon is on July 14th, so I have a good 5 weeks. I would like to use this time wisely. I don't feel the need to go on weeks of food funerals, though I am sure I will have 3 or 4 favorite meals during this time. But how else can I best use the time til mid-July? Here's what I am in the process of doing now: I have read several books and am well versed on the different surgery types, am uncertain btw. sleeve and RNY, will rely on physician input once he sees the whole health picture. I am seeing my primary care doc on this month to officially record starting weight, and let them know I am getting WLS. I will attend support group meetings. Am getting my psych eval done this week. Trying out different protein products. So I guess the big question is, do I start serious, low carb, dieting now, in the meantime? I am the type who can lose 20 pounds fairly easily, but then....I stall, and I stall HARD, and then I usually get sloppy and start slowly regaining. So I am a little worried about losing my 20 easy pounds, showing up to the surgeon mid-July and he says, hey lose 10% of your body weight before surgery please, and then I am stuck "starting over" right in the really hard part of every diet I have ever been on. Maybe I am whining here? I would like to do everything I can to get a head start before that first surgeon appt, since I'd like to do the surgery as soon as I can bc of work cycles (I work in college administration). I supposedly have no mandatory diet and exercise waiting period (we'll see on that....). I figure that starting to lose weight now will just mean it's some weight at least that I don't have to lose later, so maybe I should just jump in and diet? Try bariatric recipes? What do you recommend? Thanks for any input or advice.

    Post Your Silly Rant

Ugh, I have a friend who keeps asking me my opinion about her horrid deadbeat dad of a boyfriend and the messed up baby-mama-drama she's dealing with. My opinion: dump the man, move on. What she wants me to say: He's going to get a restraining order against his baby mama, he's going to get his kid from her, he's going to move to your town and marry you and you'll have lots of babies and live happily ever after!!! Every time I point out one of this guy's many, many flaws she comes back with some sort of BS defense or rationalization. She's living in a dream world. I've stopped engaging altogether.

    Low BMI Gastric Sleeve story

Sleeved may 13. dropped almost 20 lbs in the last 5 weeks and have only 25 more to go. I recently moved to soft diet and am having lots of trouble. eating is so difficult and the only thing that goes down easy is icecream which i started eating recently. i know that is bad and will stop. I got really sick of Protein shakes. realistically i am getting 40 grams protein and 40 ounces of Water a day. I feel really lousy. tired and sick. i just cant look at Protein Shakes anymore and getting protein is tough otherwise. today i put a little piece of chicken, mashed sweet pototo (1/4 cup) and half a jar of gerber banana apricot in ablender. sounds gross but i felt it was the first balanced meal i had in a few days. i had to travel for work and im struggling with what to eat on the road. i do yogurts and cottage cheese.... i dont mean to complain bc the weight loss has been transformative and wicked fast and I am beyond happy with how I look. I think its slowing down now. im sure the ice cream helps but I am ok with that. I wasn't expecting to lose this fast anyway. I need to get used to this ..
