Hello there... I hope you are feeling as well as I am. I tend to heal very well and have a pretty high tolerance for pain. I almost feel bad about taking another week off work.... almost!! haha I am doing pretty good on the liquid diet. My doctor requires a 2 week liquid diet prior to surgery so I'm kinda of already in the zone so to speak. I have my follow up appt tomorrow, and after that, I can add protein shakes. Then 3 more weeks until mushies. I will be MORE than ready to eat by then!! My incisions are starting to itch a little, but I'm sure that's par for the course. How are you doing with everything? Did you have it done by a local doctor or did you have to travel? I'm really glad my doc is local (5 minutes from my house). I thnk that will make it all much easier in the long run. =]

My doc hasn't mentioned doing another ultra sound, but I may end up asking her about it when we get the results from the blood work she did. I've added some cream soups this week. Cream of chicken, cream of potatoe (had to blend) and I cooked the lentil soup recipe on the recipe forum here (but also blended it) and boy was that good! I can't wait to have cottage cheese. lol I never thought I'd hear myself say that. I've also added some whey protein shakes for breakfast. Some are good and others taste awful. Sounds like you are doing pretty good. I start back to work tomorrow and sure hope I do ok.

Thank you for your kind words regarding my stress/ tummy issues and not being able to eat... it makes me feel SO much better to know that there is hope that this too shall pass. I had it so easy for the first 9 weeks I did not see this coming and I am for the most part very happy.. just on those days where my tummy is so sour and I know I'm not getting enough nutrition it's so scary. Thank you for always responding to so many people.. you rock!

Hi Laura,
How are you doing? I am doing much better this week then the first week. The first week was full of pain and regrets. This week I really feel good. I am happy with my decision. How are you doing??/

Hey Coco, THanks for your friend request. I think you will really like Dr Alvarez and his team. During my stay there he came over to see me about three to four times each time, and this is in addition to all the nurses/attendants checking on me.
I got a 32 bougie. My understanding is that it does not make a huge difference (apparently millimetres difference).
I did not have to do the liquid diet since my BMI is on the lower end. I did take the UNJURY protein powder that I mixed into my drink on the way back from the airport. (But I have to admit I did not like the taste of it a day after discharge).
Good luck to you and your mom Ann. I know it will go wonderful for you as well.

Hey, friend! Just checking in on you to see how you are doing. I have my six week checkup on Thursday. Hard to believe it's been that long. Frustrated because it's PMS week big time, which means the scale won't be my friend on Thursday, but it's the life of a woman, I suppose! I am officially down 24 pounds since surgery and 40 since preop. Not a speedy loss, but I guess I'll take it. I'm certainly doing all the things I'm supposed to do, so I'm "trusting the process." It will come. So, how about you?

Hey Barb! I'm still in the mushier stage, too. It's easy to stick with for the most part. I've had eggs a couple of times and did fine and also have had shredded chicken (think chicken taco) and have done fine with that. That's the most solid things I've had. I think I'm at the stage I need to take calcium but can't remember how many of those little chews we're supposed to do a day. One or two? I got blood work back from my endocrinologist and I'm anemic! So I called Sandy McCoy and she told me what kind of iron to take. I've ordered it and hope I can tolerate the chewable. I hated their chewable vitamins but like the Viactiv chews. Hope you had a good first week back at work. I'm doing well except that I'm exhausted by the time Thursday/Friday gets here. Went to the support group Wed. and didn't get home til 10:00. Theresa and Matt made a quick trip to Disney before she goes back to work on Monday, so she didn't make it. Have a great 3 day weekend!! Anna

I've also lost 9 pounds and holding!
I have my two week appt on Wednesday morning, so I'm excited! Well I've had a Tbl of Refried beans and mashed potatoes! I did fine no issues! I feel great, I'm not taking anymore meds and up and around fine! So are you having any like cramping on your right hand side? It's not all the time just every once in awhile?
Well have a Awesome weekend!

dr westmoreland is such a sweet man! im glad it worked out for you! he did my sleeve a 34, which is small so i have been struggling with nausea for several weeks. i have been tested and reassured by the dr that this is just going to take time but it still sucks! the idea of food makes me want to hurl! but not everyone has this problem! i finally got some gel to put on my wrist and it has helped big time! do you have a date yet?

Renee,
It is so good to hear you comment about losing without a lot of obsession. I totally agree with you, I had my surgery only 2 weeks ago, 12/29, but one of my big hopes was that I would NOT be on a diet in 2010. I want to be aware of what I am eating, and I want to not be out of control as I was pre-surgery, but if I want to have a small piece of pizza down the road, so be it. Have you had your success without a lot of worry about calories, carbs? I am making sure I get 60 g of protein and 60 oz of water. I am just moving to mushies this week. I guess I want to be sure and get off on the right foot....

What tracking tool are you using? I want to start tracking on Monday. I am doing fine, but I need the accountability and I want to be sure what I "think" is within my goals. I have my 6 week follow-up with Dr. Nicholson on 2/10, I know it is a Wed. Is that a meeting date? Maybe I could meet ya'll at it that evening?

Doing well here, and I swear I talk about you and Anna every single day! I hope to see her on Wednesday at the support group meeting. Are you back to work yet? I go back on the 18th. I decided to take quite a bit of time off to get my head on straight and play with my meal planning and such. My job is not physical, but it's certainly stressful. I'm still using MOM every now and then as I'm probably eating too much cheese--gotta love that protein. I'm getting all my protein from food now, which is nice. Still haven't tried dense meat, but I'm having some thin-sliced deli meat, and I had turkey white chili that set really well. I'm on the elliptical twice a day for 15 minutes each, and I hope to increase that this coming week. I'm ready to eat veggies!!!! My loss is right about 18 pounds plus the 16 I loss during my preop. My month anniversary will be Monday; can you believe that! Thanks for checking in, and keep me posted on your progress!

Hi Bigtex! You've had surgery!! What date? How are you? I've made some changes since we last wrote. I'm going with Dr. Davidson instead of Dr. Nick simply because I can have surgery on a Friday and that works better for me. I see where you said something about road trips are a little being a little rough, how far were you talking about and how soon out? Right after I'm released, I'm going to a friend's house in East Texas, it will be a three hour drive! Should I be prepared to be miserable? After my one week check up, my husband is coming down (we are out of state) and picking me up and we're headed to Galveston from Dallas for a week. Give me the low down, what should I expect??!! Tell me how you are, and what about getting off caffeine what is that all about?? Do tell!!!
Have a great evening!

OMG Guess what?? So there was a mix up on my surgery date. I thought they had me down for Jan 21st. The acutally have me down for Jan 14th. Thank goodness I called today. I have to start my preop diet on Thursday. I have to say that I'm FREAKING out!! I thought I had a week to get things in order but apparently not. I just need to take a breath.

Hi barbann, today is a better day for me. . .still majorly swollen though, look really pregnant! but that is expected! How are you feeling? Are you getting those fluids in a bit better today? Don't worry about the pooping, remember you really don't have anything in the tummy. . . did the contrast not give you the trots really badly? I'm still going 3-4 times a day since Wednesday. . .are you walking lots? Has the shoulder pain gone away, mine is slowly going, the sleeping thing is a bit of a challenge, but it will soon go away. . . i'm just glad i'm off work for the next 2 weeks! Keep me posted honey and take care of yourself. . .
