My tubing has been trying to come through my abdomin. I had a bump in the middle of my upper abdomin saw regular doc and gastro and they kept saying "we"ll keep an eye on it". Lap band doc said he thought it was some kind of cyst under my skin. He was gonna cut it out but sent me for a CT and ultrasound then called to tell me "we'd have had a mess on our hands if I had cut into that". I can't bend back because my abdomin feels tight like something's pulling or catching. Having extreme amounts of gas and not fully emptying when having bowel movements in past two months. No throwing up, no reflux, mild pain. Doc says its the tubing. I'm freaking out a bit. Going in for surgery on Friday.

I followed the Quick Weight Loss plan for 10 days of my 14 day pre op diet because I knew I would loose the weight and I started my 2 shakes and 1 meal on day 11. It worked because I lost 17 lbs by my surgery date. The purpose is to get your liver to shrink for the surgery. I don't regret it because the doc said my liver looked great and smaller during the surgery. I also did water aerobics every other day during my pre op.

I was only banded on 9/4, so it doesn't surprise me that I have tenderness at my port site. I know it'll go away. However, will I always be able to see a slight bulge at the port site? Will I always be able to feel it through my skin?

@@Oregondaisy Even though I'm a B cup these days, they are very floppy B's because of all the extra skin (picture a tennis ball in a tube sock ????) so my boobs fall out of most regular B cup bras when I bend over. Then I found Coobie bras. They are SO comfy and everything stays tucked in! Anemone bras are basically the same thing and you can't beat the price...$12. And of course, they are "reversible"! http://www.shopcoobie.com/shop?c=coobie-bras

hey dont feel bad we all loose at different rates I know its discouranging but you had an infection I am sure your body was healing during htat time, when we heal we dont loose... The second and third week after surgery I didnt loose anythign and again this week ... just keep doing what your doing and there is no way that you cant loose wieght with the limited calorie intake ...... also I do one premier protien shake every am 30 protien or I make the orange creme advantage 27 protien .. that way 1/2 of my protien is taken care of first thing in the morning. and yes I dont feel like eating at all after my morning shake..... if I didnt notice the clock saying it was time to eat I probably would not eat at all...... lol but I make sure that I eat lunch and dinner every day.... note that if you dont like the shakes RTD's shakes then try doing the unflavored protien and add it too some crystal light ... that way you get your protien and Water in at the same time..... just keep trying differnt ways to get your protien in.... or try it in some chocolate SF pudding Keep up the good work , it will pay off  -
Allergic to the tape? Anyone with advice?
youknowit posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all. Ok, so I'm back home now, got back yesterday afternoon. Slept almost the entire day today, I'm sooooooo worn out. Will be leaving the house here in a few to make sure I don't get back in bed... it's a rare-RAINY day here in Vegas. Ok, so I need a little advice. Did anyone have problems with being allergic to the tapes used over the incisions or the drain? My incision tapes are fine, however, the tape that was holding the drain onto my skin, once off, has becoming very inflamed, gross looking, almost like a blister... Like very severe diaper rash? It itches incessantly, hurts a bit. Chopped up some regular Benadryl last night and that seemed to help a bit. Going to get some liquid today. This rash is ALL around my drain site, and this makes me nervous, cause I tried putting some hydrocortisone on the rash, but I don't want it getting near or into the drain incision, since it's open and still healing. It helped A LITTLE, but not enough. Do you think maybe diaper rash cream would help? Or something else? This problem is making keeping my drain incision covered very difficult, as I still need tape for that. Anyone with thoughts, I'm all ears. Help please! :sad0: -
Okay! I have to agree with this completely. What you have to understand is that if you do not exercise, you body thinks it is in starvation mode, and actually holds on to food more then if you were eating more then you are now. Make sure you eat your 4 oz, do not starve yourself, eat a well balanced diet, make sure you are taking your Multivitamin, and HIT THE GYM!!!!! Bottom line, if you need motivation in the gym, get a trainer. That is the way to kick start the situation. The band is not a miracle, it is a tool, and you have to use the tool in order for it to work. If you use it right, it works, if you don't, it doesn't get the job done. Just exercise, eat right, and you will loose the weight. :rolleyes2:)

Does everyone develop loose skin?
Healthy_life2 replied to jadama22's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
@@jadama22 I was a bit concerned about looses skin when researching WLS. Now I realize having my life and my health back far out weighs the loose skin issue. Compression undergarments do wonders. Plastics are an option if you can afford it. -
Hi all! I have finally finished jumping through insurance hoops and am just waiting for approval to get my band. I was wondering what your experiences are with recovery time? I was planning on taking a week off(which is all I can manage). I am a house parent in a group home and I currently care for 12 children. I can pretty much refrain from picking up some of my kiddos and hoisting my bod up into a big huge van but I am worried that I will jar something loose. Am I being too unrealistic? Thanks in advance!
-
Ok here is a question or two: What is the best that can happen? What is the worst that can happen?? Guess what either way you will loose some weight and get in shape! GO FOR IT!!!! Isn't why you got the band even more reason to do a weight challenge??? Good luck and keep me posted! Sandee

i had my follow up appointment at the doctor's office yesterday and i have "officially" lost 12.8 pounds. i'm really proud because i have definately had weak moments. i try to counteract them, but that sets up a whole new thread of bad behaviors. i was talking to dh last night..and i was telling him that i couldn't beleive that he couldn't see a difference (i can). then i was telling him that i have already lost in 2 weeks what i spent a month trying to lose crash dieting and exercising a few months back. we decided that the weight loss i had when exercising was way more noticeable. i agree with him completely and i think i was even down in smaller pants. i think the weight loss that i have had after surgery has been a lot of Fluid and i'm sure a lot of it is internal. therefore, it makes sense that the other weight loss was more noticeable. i can feel that the weight is off of me in my whole body (although my stomach still seems to be a bit swollen). it's weird, i wake up and stretch, and i can tell that i have lost weight by the way my skin feels on me. i think that has to do with having an eating disorder when i was younger...people with eating disorder's learn to "read" their bodies because scales are normally taken away. but..needless to say i'm back to Curves to get that bod that i want. i also told dh that i feel TREMENDOUSLY better since surgery. this is the first time in a year that i have gone 2 weeks without a migraine or all over body pains (from fibromyalgia)..i'm still struggling with my blood sugar, but my bp is down and i feel wonderful. exercise can only make this that much better.

Tips to help elasticize your skin?
Mandi1441 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello fellow bandsters, I was wondering if anyone has any tips to help elasticize your skin as you are losing weight. I have already started working out and toning. I am definitely not looking for a miracle, but something to go along with toning to help tighten the skin such as Vitamin creams that may have worked for you or someone you know. Maybe something added to your diet that helps with it. I am open for any suggestions. :-) -
Tips to help elasticize your skin?
dani_nyc replied to Mandi1441's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
For women, we have hard time with the lower abdomen region. When you do your cardio.. Do an interval cardio setting 2-3x a week. That will help a lot with the muscles, fat, and skin in that region. It's hard but start off doing 10 mins and working your way up. Elliptical and precor are great for it because you can raise the resistance. Treadmill raise the incline. Elipitcal takes alot of pressure off the knees and ankles, so that may help you. I had 4 abdominal surgeries in 3 years due to renal cancer. So I feel your pain! You will be surprised how the muscles will work back. Just takes dedication and time. -

Single Incision Scars vs. Multi-port Scars from Surgery
elcee replied to LAXGirl's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
It's not the scars you will be trying to hide when you wear a bikini, it is more likely to be the loose skin. -
i am in the middle of obtaining approval. hoping to have insurance approval with surgery in december 2010. it's taken me a little more than a year to finally decide this is my best option to good health. i am a nurse and the biggest hurdle was facing the fact that i was not going to be able to "fix" this myself. in fact, it was a horrible admission to myself that i am this broken. but, now i have made the decision and am excited, anxious, weary, and hopeful. that list is not all inclusive of the multitude of emotions i am having every single moment i breathe right now. questions that i need to hear answered from women who've had the surgery. (please!!) i'm not finding any research to the answers. 1. with vsg is the loss of weight 'all over' or mostly abdominal fat first? 2. what is the incidence of hair loss? (vanity) 3. i'm reading that vsg has a slower weight loss than r&y; does this mean that there is less excess skin since in theory the skin will have more time to shrink? 4. for those that did not have the gallbladder removed, have you had problems and how many had to have another surgery later to remove it? 5. what is the loss to breast tissue, meaning, will they significantly be diminished in size? (this is the other thing that vanity is giving me fits about) thank you for your help in advance. deb

60 / lbs down - HAPPY but gettin really flabby! Any guys have tummy tuck
B-Man replied to rosstheboss's topic in The Guys’ Room
I have the same problem. I am within sight of 40 years old, and I just don't think the skin is going to go away on its own. Even if I continue to loose the weight, I think the flap over the pants is not going away. It feels like its mostly skin with some fat underneath it. I was really really hoping to avoid a tuck, but I know the truth and simply gotta find the money to get it done. I bet I could drop at least another pants size, maybe 2 by having the excess skin removed. I started at a size 52, and now down to a loose size 38. I would also like to mention I do a lot of core / ab workouts, and this seem to be making the "skin" problem worse, not better. I guess the more fat that goes away the more the skin takes on the flap appearance. -
