I broke my stall this morning! Down 1.8 lbs since yesterday and down 1.6 since my last lowest weight, so I think the stall might actually be over. 😁 I am trying so hard to exercise but yesterday doing steps my knee started hurting, plus my hip is still hurting from the treadmill, and my arm is still hurting from the trainer I met with. I was going to swim, but then I realized that might be hard with my arm messed up... Last night I walked all over my apartment following @ShoppGirl's suggestion. It was nice. I was on the phone with my parents but still managed to get my calorie goal for the day (according to my Apple Watch).

I heartily concur! It's been 22 weeks since starting my pre-op diet, and I've lost an average 1.2kg per week, which is basically what I was losing doing a regular calorie counting 1200-1500cal per day diet with exercise. I'm eating on average between 700 to 1200 calories per day (1200 is a *really* good day, but if I'm honest, I don't reach that often), always focused on protein and vitamins and water. Frequent stalling. I've just accepted that it is what it is with me and my experience. All I can do is be grateful I'm currently where I am and just keep marching on. I'm the smallest I've been in over two decades, and so I started the None To Run program again. I'm smaller than I was when I did it last time, so I though it'd be a doddle! And it was, I was having no trouble fitness-wise but I managed to completely f**k my left knee and have had to stay off it for this whole week. So trying to up my exercise to running instead of walking to help boost myself has stalled as well. It's a good thing I have a pervasive sense of humour! So yep. These hurdles and stalls are super frustrating. It stalls were a physical entity, I'd kick it in the shins. Then probably hurt a toe.

So I finally got my surgery date after about 7 months of waiting. I am feeling so many mixed emotions but mainly excited and scared. My surgery is on Valentine's Day or Feb 14th. I thought how symbolic because it's all about self love now in my life and treating myself to the life I deserve rather than put up with. It's been such an emotional journey for me. I'm so ready now though. I just need to remember the good over the ugly parts. I'm a little bit sad because I've only lost 26 lbs throughout this time but I worked really hard with psychologists and my psychiatrist to have a better relationship to food throughout all of these months. It was slow but my weight has been going down only for the first time in 2 years. I'm on my preop diet now. It's really tough but I'm determined to do what I need to be surgery ready. I've been drinking so much water having sugar free popsicles to curb my hunger pangs. It's almost messed up but I'm so excited to not have my appetite right after surgery for a little bit because it's quite a nuisance when you're eating 500 calories a day on a pre op stomach. Anyway, thanks for everyone's advice over these months. Just wanted to share the update and express my feelings. If you're going through the same thing I'm always open to talk. Revision from sleeve to bypass
StratusPhr replied to lions92's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
I woke up at 4:30 AM throwing up. It's been a bad day. Dumping I think, I am trying to just get something in, and something will calories so I indulged in about 4.5 oz of a milkshake. I won't do that again. I'll eat, weigh and measure, less to 2 oz. I'm fine and then sometimes 1.5 hours AFTER eating it will start gurgling and feels like it's just sitting there on my breastbone. I know if I throw up I will feel better. It will not go away. WHAT causes this? I'm worried about continuing to lose weight. I'd like to stop, but that seems impossible at this point. -
I would definitely track calories. It's the only way to know for sure how much you're eating. Make sure you're getting 60 g of protein (or more depending on your activity level/height, etc). Drink enough, because you need the fluid and also fluid will help you from feeling hungry. It's best to limit added sugar (you can see added sugars on the nutrition label) and avoid grazing. Start with protein, then veggies, then whole grains. Re-gain is incredibly common, so don't beat yourself up. Just go back to making the best choices you can. You're aiming for progress, not perfection!

Eat like you did just after WLS . . . focusing on protein, watching your portion sizes, around 1200 calories/day, getting in your water intake. You'll be back on track in on time.

Are you still in contact with your dietician? They’re always the best place to start. Go back to tracking & measuring your food if you don’t do this anymore. It’s easy to get complacent & less vigilant & eyeballing isn’t always accurate. I do random checks now to make sure I’m not over estimating portion sizes 😉. Ensure you’re still hitting your protein & fluid goals too. I do that every day. How many calories you should be aiming for will depend on many things like age, gender, level of activity, etc. i eat about 1300 calories. As for portion size I always consider the recommended portion size as a starting point. Sometimes I eat less, some times I can eat the recommended serving size. It depends on what I’m eating, how hungry I am & sometimes what my tummy is up for. For e.g. I can always eat more vegetables & today I could only eat about 3/4 of my usual serve of porridge. As for your food choices, again that is very individual. You need to work out a way of eating that best suits your lifestyle & is sustainable. For me that means prepping most of what I eat myself. I keep my meals fairly ‘clean’. Lowish fat, lowish carbs, no bread, pasta or rice & low sugar (usually 10g added sugar or less). No highly processed foods. No fast food & very rarely takeaway (maybe 5 times in almost three years - braised chicken, cashews & vegetables or steamed gyoza). I aim for 2 serves of meat, 3 or 4 serves of vegetables, 1 or 2 serves of fruit, 2 or 3 serves of dairy, 2 serves of multi or whole grain carbs. It’s been working for me but your needs & prefernces may be totally different.

at that far out I'd switched over to mostly calorie counting (although I know it isn't for everyone). I had to experiment a bit to figure out at what range I maintained my weight (for me, it was 1500-1700 calories, but that's going to differ for everyone). If I went under that most days of the week, I'd lose - if I went over it consistently, I'd gain.
-
That's not odd - pretty much what I've experienced! Eating less calories isn't the answer and I imagine that will just create more problems. Your body needs those calories. Stalls are your body's time-out to deal with the trauma of the surgery and the sudden prolonged severe drop in caloric intake. If anything, upping the calories and exercise has been the best way I've found to break the stalls. I'm averaging about a kilogram of weight loss a week, which is what I was losing when I was doing calorie counting and exercise the last time I made a decent effort of losing the analogue way - before I finally accepted I needed surgical help. So I've not experienced the "weight melting off" or "honeymoon period" so many others talk about on here. And while it can get you down, I look at the long term bright side. Slower steadier weight loss is healthy, the number is still going down, and hopefully this means our skin has a better chance of springing back, and our hair loss will be minimal. Fingers crossed!

omg! I'm 6 weeks post op and I have been dealing with the exact same problem, every second week I have been stalling I didn't know if it was cause I was struggling to have protein, my caloric intake I was worried I wasn't going to get over the stall too. I'm also eating 800-950 calories a day is that too much 6 weeks out oh and just before a stall I will gain a pound then stall and then I lose 5 pounds then gain a pound and stall is this odd??
-
I try to drink more than 64 oz of fluid (including coffee and tea because it's a myth that caffeine dehydrates; in truth only alcohol dehydrate), 60-80g protein, less than 80 g carbs with including very little added sugar (fruit and veggie sugar okay by me), less than 40g fat (although I often eat a lot of cheese and nuts, so this goes over frequently). I'm 4.5 months out. I count my calories on myfitnesspal and eat about 900-1300 calories a day. I am not trying to do ultra low carb because I want to be able to sustain this. I eat crackers or pretzels or sweets occasionally in very small amounts, and I eat out all the time because I travel for work. Good luck!

Revision from sleeve to bypass
MAQ replied to lions92's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@melanatedqueen Macros are between 60-80 grams protein, 40-50 grams fat and less than 10 grams carbs. More fat if I can fit it in without eating too much. I don’t know if I was in a stall and it ended the same time I started introducing more fat or if it was the fat that jump started my weight loss. But I certainly didn’t go through all this to eat less than 500 calories a day and not lose weight. Much more satisfied on the keto. -

Determining Goal Weight
Tomo replied to suzannethemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would probably change therapists. That would irk me too. When I was younger, I had an opinionated therapist, and it affected my life in a negative way. They need to look at your situation without their own opinions/biases and above all, never ever tell you how to live your life but give you the tools to succeed. My surgeon doesn't tell me a goal weight. He just monitors my health and tells me to eat more .. Etc. and gives me a target for calorie level... Etc. So I just picked a general healthy weight for my goal and see how things go month to month Sent from my SM-N986U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Revision from sleeve to bypass
MelanatedQueen replied to lions92's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
@MAQ You brought up a great point. I’m on low carb/600 calories, 7 weeks out from revision vsg to rny, and my weight loss has been sooooo slow! Only 5 pounds lost in January! I don’t know what to do and my surgeon’s office has been less than helpful. Since I’m in ketosis, I thought the weight would fall off. I didn’t wanna eat too much fat that’s why I didn’t do Keto and figured I have more than enough stored body fat to use. May I ask what your daily macros are How many grams of fat, carbs, protein do you eat daily? -
18 days post-op. Left side pain, can't drink shakes
SleeverSk replied to CowboyKurt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Kurt, I know how you feel I spent 7 weeks curled up in a ball on my sisters couch feeling like was/ wanted to die. I couldnt/ didn't want to eat or drink. If you go back through my old posts you will see how bad I was feeling. Just try to eat and drink what you can. I couldn't have shakes either because of they way they effected me. I lived on KFC mash potato and gravy then a few chicken nuggets. I was drinking protein water to get my protein in but at this stage don't worry about calories etc because seriously the tiny amount you are eating it's not going to matter. Could your vitamins be causing you issues I know mine did. I also found when I ate later in the evening I felt better in the morning. 1 night a had a maccas sundae and felt amazing the next morning so good in fact I had breakfast. I also found I felt the worst in the mornings and normally struggled to get anything in. I did seek out a psychologist which helped but I think it's just a time thing trust me it gets better. Hope you feel better soon ((hugs)) oh about the 4-5 month mark is when I started to feel better and yes I cried multiple times a day during that period going back to work helped me a lot too got me back into my routine. Ok I will shut up now but feel free to reach out -
My experience… sleeved on 1/22/22

Thank you all for the support. I had my one week post op appointment today. It went very well. While I was only on semi full liquids at my one week mark I am now on full liquids. (Malt o meal, cream soup, Greek yogurt- and removing fruit juices since those will now be empty calories) Tonight I’m having a little creamy soup rather than broth to see how that sits. I’m supposed to be setting up for 3 meals a day- it just seems like so much! Today I’ve had 54 oz of liquid- 20 of those being a diluted protein shake. (Coffee and a fairlife coffee protein shake) but I was also on the run all day! My appointment was in the morning, followed by a little shopping before meeting a friend at the gym for a walk followed by a hair appointment. I made sure to keep a water bottle on me and keep drinking as much as possible! But now I’m home and EXHAUSTED! Can’t wait to snuggle up with my pup and watch some tv! :) -
Whatever you decide to do for pregnancy prevention do something highly effective like IUD. You are much more fertile after surgery and it's not good to get pregnant right after surgery because you will not be taking in many calories. Like @Queen ApisM said, maybe they can figure out what you were exactly allergic to so you know what else to try. I am down 95 lbs and I already have loose skin in my thighs and my breasts are totally flat, but you can't see it with my clothes on. Don't panic. I don't plan to have skin surgery unless I am physically uncomfortable because I have heard the recovery is really unpleasant. Most people who have this surgery will have fatty liver. Just be sure to follow the pre-surgery diet closely - the purpose of that is to shrink the liver so it's easier to do the surgery.

3+ years out and i still have days when I forget to eat. Once I realized its already 3pm and i haven’t eaten yet, I was STARVING. So here is my way too big, 474 calorie salad. Eating it now and anticipate that I’ll likely get through at about a 1/3 of it. -
Determining Goal Weight
suzannethemom replied to suzannethemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Wow CATWOMAN, everything you do for exercise are things I love to do (or used to love to do) as well. That is so encouraging for me because it feels “doable” for me too. I was worried that significant weight loss would require heavy, sweaty workouts, which I just cannot do anymore at my age (54) due to joint pain and fatigue. The calorie thing seems to vary person to person, like you said. -
When did you start eating fruits? (Carbs content)

Didn't give a flying f' about carbs or not. I only tracked protein and calories. No need for keto, trust me, I'm living proof. -

9-days until surgery..
catwoman7 replied to Lei-Lei's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
it was in my plan - might not be in yours. I think it was in mine because of the sodium, because calorie-wise, it would have been fine. But check with your clinic - they might not limit it in yours. -
Determining Goal Weight
catwoman7 replied to suzannethemom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do exercise - I'm not a gym rat, but I always tried to exercise 5-6 days a week. At first it was mostly walking and water aerobics, since I was too heavy to do much of anything else. I still do those - but I also now do Zumba and bicycling as well. I've also strength-trained off and on (twice a week) - but unfortunately not consistently because I don't really like it. But I recently started using resistance bands, which I like a lot more than the weight machines at my gym - so hopefully I'll keep up with it this time! as for calories, by the end of the first year, I was up around 1000 per day. Second year I was eating around 1200 until I hit maintenance at 20 months out. I then experimented with different ranges to determine my "maintenance range", which is 1500-1700 per day. As long as I stay within that range, I can maintain my weight. But of course that's going to vary for everyone depending on how much muscle you have, how active you are, etc. I know some women who have to eat around 1200 to maintain, and others who can eat 2000.... -
9 months post op, weight loss stopped :(
vikingbeast replied to fitgal2021's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you're only eating 1000 calories at 9 months out, maybe try bumping that up to 1200 calories for two weeks and see how you do. (You're not going to "balloon"—200 extra calories a day for 14 days is about 0.8 lbs, if bodies were machines.)
