  1. I had MGB in TJ in April 2017 and it resolved my acid reflux, which was very severe pre-op. Life was great, lost a lot of weight, but 10 months post-bypass I developed bile reflux. I knew it was this because I would throw up greenish-yellow liquid, and then it was confirmed via EGD, along with Barrett’s Esophagus. My gastroenterologist and PCP were unfamiliar with bile reflux and did not know how to treat it, no medicines they recommended helped, but I found a great out-of-state bariatric surgeon (who also specializes in complex revisions) who was able to treat me. In July 2018, he repaired a hiatal hernia and performed a Nissen Fundoplication on me and since then I’ve had zero acid or bile reflux issues, which have been confirmed via EGD (2 of them post-op). He considered revising me to RNY but during surgery he was able to do some magic so that I didn’t need that extra procedure. And as the final step in my weight loss journey, I’m scheduled for plastic surgery in mid-Feb 2020.

    Surgery in Monterrey mexico

I’m having plastic surgery with Dr. Sauceda in mid-Feb 2020. What surgery did you have done with him and when, and how do your scars look today? Are they jagged, thick, good belly button, etc? And what kind of stuff do you think I should bring with me; what’s essential for recovery at the Hampton Inn? And your profile says you’re having a revision from MGB to RNY in less than 2 weeks. Do you mind sharing why and who is going to do the surgery? I had an MGB in TJ in April 2017; acid reflux was improved but then I developed bile reflux, so in July 2018 I had a hernia repair and Nissen Fundoplication (in the U.S.) and I am doing great now; no more reflux of either kind.
  3. I am seeking advise on mentally and physically preparing for surgery. I’m about 5-6 weeks away from revising from a sleeve to a LOOP DS and feel that last time going in I was mentally prepared I was losing weight and in control. This time for insurance purposes I haven’t lost weight and while I haven’t been binge eating I can’t seem to do the 2 shakes a day light dinner thing I’ve been trying to do (my idea not my doctors suggestion). I want to give myself the best chance at losing the 55-60. I go between thinking I’m ok the surgery is going to help me dont panic if you eat 1800 cals a day to you must only drink protein shakes and eat under 1000 or you won’t be successful. I do have a therapist and I am truly trying to figure out my head. Any advise would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
  4. I had a sleeve done three years ago and will be going in for a revision to bypass in March. I really want to do more to keep myself on track, and thought about having a dedicated bullet journal just for this - goals, trackers, etc. Of course, I already use apps to track food and macros, water, step count, etc, but they are in different places and, having just started bullet journaling for another part of my life, I’ve realized how much I miss actually writing things down and having more space to write about high points and low points, as well as a place to keep photos, etc of my journey. I’ve done some research online but most bullet journals just have a one page spread for the month tracking exercise or water or whatever, there are very few ideas out there about setting up a journal for those of us going through bariatric surgery (pre- and post-op diets, liquid/purée/soft food stages, etc). Just curious if anyone out there has set up a journal for themselves and are willing to share the kind of spreads they made. I’m currently sketching out a few ideas and will share as soon as I can make them somewhat decent.

    Nausea vomiting one year out

This is gerd and is quite common with the sleeve. I too would wake up with acid flowing from my nose and mouth. It was horrible. Best option is to revise to a bypass. you need to see a surgeon. They may put you on a ppi but those are not safe long term. Gerd can lead to much worse things like cancer. Please see a Dr ASAP.
  6. Hi all, I am a 30 year old male. I previously had a gastric sleeve surgery 5 years agobut due to the massive regain of weight, I had a revision gastric bypass in February 2019. Anyways, since my lowest recorded weight and initial weight loss success in June 2019, I have since gained 7kg to date and feel like I gaining 1-2kg a week. Specifically, I have regained 6 kg since early Dec 2019 to date. Over the past 3 weeks, I have regained at least a 1kg a week. I feel like I can eat just as much, if not more, then my first gastric sleeve surgery 5 years ago. I know that the bypass is a tool only, but I am shocked in the amount I can eat and want to eat. I can easily eat a plate of pasta or a whole wrap with chips from KFC (I know I should be eating healthy and not these type of foods, but it is easier said than done!). On a normal day, I drink at least 5 cans of sugar free coke zero and at least a box of paddlepop icecream. I'm super addicted to sweet and sugary food and I know this is the issue. My issue is I pretty much have to eat sweet sugary food. Luckily and thankfully, I am not diabetic (not that I know of anyways!) I've read stories of people who were much bigger than me who initially had the surgery who now eat a few bites and get full and they don't really ever feel like icecream and other sugary food. Yet I am always hungry and even after I eat food, I still crave sugary food. My old workmate who had the gastric sleeve never used to eat! They were never hungry or craved anything, yet I am completely the opposite. Anyways, my question is can anyone on here following their gastric bypass surgery still eat a plate of food or even close to? I just can't comprehend how following 2 surgeries without any complications (thankfully ) I still am able to eat so much food. Look forward to hearing from anyone.

    Stomach stretching

I do believe the pouch can be stretched. If anyone watched that recent episode of this new season of My 600 Lb. Life, there was one woman that had the sleeve, only made it to 300 lbs and was on the show again to get a revision, because she ate her way back up to 600 plus pounds. When he did the revision, he said the first sleeve procedure she had was completely undone. And her revision was hard because she had tons of scar tissue. We totally can undo what we've done. That fact always frightens me and makes me remember to measure my portions, whenever possible.

    Weight Regain

I had a big weight gain. I was eating things I shouldn't because my home situation changed. After the 70 lb weight gain. I moved out of the situation I was in. I have lost close to 40 lbs. It took years and I am still trying to get back to my previous weight. Hopefully I will lose 50 Lbs more. To get to a more sensible weight. I had RNY and tried a revision surgery to SADI. It doesn't seem to be doing much good. Maybe I am eating too many calories. I was eating between 1500 to 1200. Now I am eating 1000 to 1200. My doctor wants me to go lower than 1000. I am not sure how you do that without relying on protein drinks. Which he told me not to do. I lost 17 lbs since the surgery 12/4. Most of that was during the preop diet and the initial post surgical time. Any suggestions about this situation are welcome.
  9. Gee first world problems^ Some ppl go through years to get bypass or to get knocked back so be thankful you can even get a revision please..

    Forced to do Bypass

Barrett's esophagus is what my doctor said would likely happen without intervention! And then, of course, cancer....I really hoped I could hang on to my tiny banana stomach. But, here I am. Not happy. Afraid of all of the reasons I never wanted a bypass. However, my doctor, Monali Misra, is such a wonderful person. I truly trust her with my life. If she says she's not comfortable with revising my sleeve, I am confident. I have to make alot of changes. Sent from my moto e5 supra using BariatricPal mobile app
  11. I will have my revision gastric bypass in a week my bypass was 20 years ago and I started to gain weight 5 years ago, I almost can eat everything still small amount than a adult but I remember so many dumping 😓 any tips???

    Cheated and disgusted

banded in 2009, lost from 232# to 143#... in March 2017 got the flu... band slipped. No WLS for 2.5+ years.... revised to the sleeve 8/28/19.... lost the 30# i regained and 9ish plus.
  13. I have contacted a legal firm in Vancouver that already has a class action against the company that makes Lap-Band. Since we already have many people interested in a class action against Slimband, they might just take the case on a contingency basis (i.e. they would get 10% of any money recovered). I will let you know if/when I hear back from them. Since the Slimband clinic is closed, that would not be our target. And unfortunately it wouldn't be Dr. Patrick Yau either. It would be the owner of BOTH Slimband clinic and CreditMedical.com where many of us got our medical loans from, as it is still practicing and making TONS of money charging huge interest rates on medical loans. Where there's big money, you can bet a lawyer is going to be interested - especially since they've probably already done a lot of research into banding for their initial suit. Personally I will probably have the band removed at some point but not until I can find a surgeon that will revise my RNY to make the pouch smaller. I had an RNY in 2002 and the pouch expanded so I got the Slimband in 2013 to increase restriction again. If I take the band off, I will still have the big pouch, and I don't want that. I expect that with missed work due to Slimband complications since January 2013, I will be owed in the tens of thousands of dollars easily.

    Forced to do Bypass

I agree that the bypass sounds scary, but to me it's not as scary as having 80% of your stomach removed! It's theoretically reversible, and the mortality data for both the sleeve and bypass are comparable. But the risks and mortality of cancer is much higher, so I wouldn't hesitate to revise. It'll likely save your life!

    Forced to do Bypass

Sorry for the rough news but honestly the greater fear may be Cancer... Returning GERD or the sudden onset of GERD is a known risk of VSG. This revision surgery is about preventing a malicious disease from developing and improving your quality of life. Good Luck 💚

    Forced to do Bypass

I just revised from sleeve to bypass 8 weeks ago. Like you I was afraid if the. Bypass. I got the sleeve early 2018 ended up with large hernia and gerd. now that I have the bypass, I am very happy with it. As long as you keep up with having bloodwork checked, take your vitamins and eat healthy, there is nothing to fear from the bypass. you have to do this or deal with cancer. There is no other option. Please make peace with it so that you can get healthy. You will be glad that you did it I once it is behind you. My only regret is that I did not start out with bypass and avoid having surgery twice. hang in there and come here for support. Please keep us updated as well. You got this.
  17. Hi, I’m interested in getting a revision. How long is the wait for approval? Will it be the same process (6 months)? I have emblem health/ghi. I’m in NYC.
  18. hello there, I had the sleeve done in 2013 in mx. my surgeon was Fernando Garcia in Tijuana. I have regained, I'm finding it incredibly hard to get back into the swing of things and to make a long story short, if like to be revised to rny/GB and want to know which MX surgeons are a big deal right now. thanks, Amy... again

    3rd times a charm!

I was told $6900 for the revision but Dr. took $500 off since I was coming back to him. He was supposed to have Dr. Illan do my mgb but he had an emergency that day and another Dr. stepped in to do my surgery. But this time I'm going to Dr. Illan. His patients really seem to love him and his staff is amazing to work with.
  20. I had the sleeve in 2011 and then got horrible acid reflux and the sleeve was stretched some. My insurance wouldn't pay for the revision to bypass so I got the mini gastric bypass but I'm one of the ones that didn't get rid of the reflux with that so now the reflux is even worse and insurance still won't pay to fix it so I'm going back to Mexico for my 3rd wls. I'm really not happy about that but I need the reflux gone! What I can tell you about a revision, for me anyway, after the sleeve I felt no pain and went back to work in a week. After the mgb I was sore and exhausted. I went back to work after 2 weeks but I was so tired. And the weight loss is a little slower than the first time.
  21. You have a few options as a revision but only a surgeon can direct you after testing A reminder: This will be your 3rd WLS, if given the choice IMHO i would choose the most permanent one (DS/SIPS)
  22. I had a lapband on 30 July 2007 and had it removed in 13 November 2007 due to slippage. In 21 November 2008 I had a gastric sleeve. The sleeve was not a true banana shape due to scar tissue. I started at 133 kgs and plateaued at 102kgs. In 2015 due to constant reflux I was diagnosed with a hiatus hernia around my port entry which has given me a permanent gap at the LES. Since then I had put weight on due to menopause, HRT and stress by 4 kgs. Then in June 2018 I had a mild stroke due to BP and now I am 116kgs. So options are to have sleeve revision with hiatus hernia fixed or gastric bypass. But I’m not sure of the complications about a bypass.
  23. Has anyone had a gastric sleeve revision?

  24. I had sleeve to bypass revision mostly for my gerd and hernia. But I never lost all of my weight with the sleeve either. I have managed to lose 35 pounds in the 8 weeks since my surgery. I feel like that is pretty good and not sure why so many people say that we won’t get great results with revision as far as weight loss goes. I am very happy with my progress so far. Good luck!
  25. I had my sleeve done and a hiatal hernia repair in 2011 and reached goal in about 11 months. I lost 100 lbs and have kept it off ever since. Fast forward nine years and I have esophagitis, an esophageal stricture, another hernia, and crazy bad GERD. My surgeon has presented me with two options. Option one, keep my sleeve as it is, but partially cut through the muscles of the esophagus to ease the stricture and then fold some of the stomach inward (like rolling the top of a sock inside itself) to keep the acid in my stomach. Or Option two, convert to a RnY. I love, love, love my sleeve because afterwards I had no hunger. None. And it's still gone, I can go all day if I am busy without eating and only remember if I start to get lightheaded or cranky. So, people who lost their hunger with VSG and had to convert to RnY, did your hunger stay lost? If you were at goal, how much weight did you lose? My BMI is 22, I can't lose too much more. I am dreading another surgical recovery and those awful protein drinks, too. Thanks for reading!
