Wise words. Really look into this if you're having trouble with alcohol - if you're restricting yourself too much for a period of time, your subconscious will find ways to break 'free'. And alcohol can be just one such way. Ie. if you've told yourself you'll never have x, y or z food, then be curious if alcohol becomes a 'get out of jail free' card to have that food. Because what may end up happening is all those desires channel into the alcohol, and then you've got two, not one, problem. For most, the cure for being out of control is not more control, but finding a balance. To not see any foods as good or bad, but as food, period. To count calories, but allow oneself to go over some days and under others. Again, if you're perfectly happy within the restrictions we set for ourselves here, fine. I am most of the time. Yet I know it's so much better to have a few popsicles than it is to get myself drunk to make the popsicles happen anyway.

So, I have been having some sugar free chocolates (about 35 calories, 5 carbs and 2 fat) or sugar free chocolate ice cream (about 1 tbsp and similar macros) may be few times a week. Would it be too much to do either sugar free chocolate OR 1tbsp of ice cream once a day everyday? I think somewhere they help getting away from same old food schedule. Ofc I also make sure not to go beyond those limits.

Wondering if i made the right decsion
ShoppGirl replied to laloos's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While you are in the weight loss phase you will want to watch WHAT you eat of course because you can put away quite a bit of calories in a small volume if you don’t but the way I understood it pretty much everyone goes back to around a serving size eventually. Some it may take longer than others but eventually they want you to be able to eat enough to get all your nutrients in from food. I heard that a lot of those Facebook groups are pretty unhealthy. My therapist suggested bariatric pal and so far I have found nothing but support here. -
Thank you for the replies! Highest weight: 249 (thanks to the pandemic for accelerating my emotional eating) Surgery weight: 225 Current weight: 149 (lost 85%+ excess weight, depending on date of comparison) I don’t track calories. As we all know, the mental part of this can be equally hard as the physical, sometimes more. Just trying not to push myself to the point at which I feel deprived and I’m working too hard. And like Spinoza wrote so well, picking a battle I could never win... I also read an article recently about how a BMI of 27 is perhaps the best. Interesting! https://www.medpagetoday.com/primarycare/obesity/57821

1 month post op not losing weight
Bling2022 posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi everyone, I had my surgery on 1/1/2022 SW 141Kg CW 125.8 Kg, for the last three weeks I have only lost 1.3kg, I aim to get my protein around 50-60g per day although I struggle with my water intake. My daily calorie intake is around 500-700. last check up was on 27th of Jan and my surgeon is expecting me to be around 120 by the end of Feb. Please let me know if its normal. -
I think alcohol lowered my inhibitions to eat too. I just responded to another post about alcohol and said post surgery I don’t like the taste of alcohol anymore and can’t seem to drink it fast enough to get a buzz anyways so it’s sorta like what’s the point? I am actually glad I no longer like it cause I know it’s a waste of my calorie budget and I think it makes me eat more.
-
Since my sleeve surgery I do not enjoy drinking anymore. Without soda it tastes bad and I can’t get a buzz anyways so it’s just a poor tasting waste of calories. I am sorta glad because I Know it’s not the best thing for me anyways.

I stopped cold turkey during my pre-op diet, which was something because I drank a ton of caffeine: coffee, diet sodas, etc. I somehow did not get withdrawals when I stopped, and I can say now it was much easier than I thought! I'm now six months out, and haven't tried it again yet, and am not sure I will. I was tempted to try some caffeine a few weeks ago when I had to attend video meetings based on the South Africa time zone, so online from 2 AM - 10 AM, but I decided not to and was fine. Honestly, I don't miss it. I do miss my coffee ritual in the morning and while I could use decaf coffee, I also realize I'll then be tempted to use creamers and such that will add unwanted calories. I've created a new decaf tea habit and it is quite nice. At some point I'll try caffeine again, but I'm not really driven to do it now.

November Surgery Buddies!!!

Hello every one, I hope the world of wonderful weight loss is great for everybody and all stalls have broken. I have just come out of a 4 week stall and am overjoyed. My calorie intake was just too small to let my body loose anything. Now that I can eat fish and seafood my protein intake is going up to about 50 grams a day. I have no problems drinking anymore and am feeling the health benefits of that. Its been a bit of a struggle but I am getting there a little slower than lots of you but I dont mind being a straggler. My dietician said to begin exercising so I am going to begin walking. The weather is horrid here and I am going to have to force myself out of the door. I have started leaving clothes on the too big to clean up in pile. Instead of skirts sliding up my belly to my bra, now they slide off if I dont catch them quick enough . Not good when the postman comes. Have a good week everyone -
If you don't mind sharing, how many calories are you eating now vs two months ago when you were losing? I'm an avid tracker for years and can see when, why and how my weight changed from month to month.
-
Sounds like you are happy where you are (and not interested in doing anything more to change it)....soooooo congratulations on getting to goal! P.S. I tried to stop losing on purpose at 7 months (upped my calories considerably), and stopped losing consistently around 9-10 months (lowest weight 109 lbs). I'm 3+ years post op, 5'2" 118 lbs this morning. I eat around 1800-2000 cals/day these days.
-
Is it the calories in alcohol or the fact that it lowers your inhibitions with eating other foods? If the former, switch to spirits with zero calorie mixers. If the latter, quit alcohol.
-
Somebody else on here today was talking about alcohol being an issue. Now that you know your primary trigger, you know what to work on. Have faith that your tool of bypass will still work for you if you get back to basics in terms of tracking your intake, watching drinking your calories, etc.
-
Wow 20 years ago you had bypass? That is amazing. I saw someone else on here mention alcohol is causing weight gain for them. Maybe you can switch to a very low carb, calorie beer?

What’s your pre-op diet/macros/calories?
mrsjo posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Still in the pre-op phase here. Just wondering what everyone else is doing for diet? I had lost 10% of my weight at the 6 month preop time. Now I’ve gained back 5-7 pounds and can’t get past it. Up and down and back and forth. Wondering what you all are following as far as calories, macros, etc that seems to be working. Not sure if my body just freaked out at the 10% mark but I’m really struggling and I’d like to lose as much as possible before surgery if I can. I’m exercising doing CrossFit or walking/yoga 5-6 days a week. Any advice? -
My hunger didn’t come back for ages - more than a year. Up until recently I still often had times I wasn’t hungry but now hardly ever which is sad. I also wasn’t interested in eating for a few months after surgery. I ate to a routine - stuck to three meals a day because I realised I needed to eat for my body to function. My calorie intake was pretty low for a while - barely 900 calories at 6 months & starting maintenance & was often less. Eating to a routine did help change my relationship with food a lot. I looked at food for the nutritional benefit it would give me rather than for any other thing (comfort or soothe, or some other emotional reason, etc.). Food still had to be tasty because if it wasn’t I wouldn’t eat it or eat much of it. It may take time to see what foods you easily tolerate. Don’t be afraid to eat a small rotation of food options to begin.

Loving Protein-Packed Kodiak Bear Bites
catwoman7 replied to GradyCat's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I'd have no problem at all eating 15 of those - if not more! They'd be better for an occasional treat. If I had them around all the time, I'd be eating them... on the other hand, the calories aren't too bad for 15 little cookies. -
Today is 4 months post op. I'm feeling way behind. Lost 35 pounds
Spinoza replied to GiGi 1970's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Gigi I am almost exactly 3 months post op and I have lost 33lbs. I'm sure you know that SO many things affect the rate at which we lose weight - starting weight, age, hormones, fitness level, exercise level - not just calorie intake. I already see my loss slowing down but I am in this for the long haul. People who hit a long stall will try to increase protein, increase calories, try a different exercise regime - maybe upper body only for you - or even resistance bands to try to build a bit of muscle? In any case you shouldn't be bummed - you've lost a significant amount of weight, you're already way healthier, and if you stick to your programme you're likely to lose even more. -

35 lbs in four months is pretty good. You can't expect to lose as much as the people on "my 600 lb life" unless you start out weighing 600 lbs. I think I lost only a little more than that at that point, and my surgery center thinks I'm doing great! Also... you may need to eat more to get the weight to drop. By 4 months out I was eating 800-1200 calories a day. I still 5 months out) eat a half cup or less of food, but I try to make that full of protein and veggies. What did your surgery center say? Do they think you're not losing fast enough? Also, I totally feel your pain on the injuries. I was doing great with exercising but then I got tendinitis in both my arm and knee, so I was told to rest for a month. It SUCKS! -
Loving Protein-Packed Kodiak Bear Bites
GradyCat posted a topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I learned about these from a grocery haul video on YouTube. If you remember the old Teddy Grahams from the 1990's (do they still make those?) they remind me of those or kinda like animal crackers. They're called KODIAK BEAR BITES and they are graham crackers in three flavors: Chocolate, Honey, or Cinnamon. They are adorable and I even like the design of the box, as if that was important. A single serving (as if you could eat just one serving!) is 15 crackers, for 120 calories, 17 carbs, 2 fibers, 5 g protein, and 3.5 g fat. -

Todays first meal of day: another salad! 269 calories for the bowl. For funsies, I’m including a pic of the chicken pot pie I made last night. There were cracks on the top pastry so I strategically placed some extra dough over them, lol. I didn’t have any of it, but the fam tells me it was good. -
I like to capture myself in the ring camera. The first photo was about 2 weeks ago and the second was about in June 2021. I had surgery in August 2021. 70 pounds down. Best decision I ever made to have surgery. In the June photo, I was restricting calories, doing insane crossfit workouts every day and getting nowhere. Life is so much easier now. If you're on the fence, do it. You won't regret it. Sent from my SM-N976V using BariatricPal mobile app

March 2022 Surgery Buddies
Flab-U-Less Forever replied to LilaNicole20's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
So happy to hear you are rescheduled!! I just started to look at food/shake combinations that will keep me below 50 gm of carbs per day. I am allowed either shakes or lean meat and veggies for my 4 meal per day. I think I am going to do shakes for breakfast and lunch. A protein water and yogurt for a snack and then meat and veggies for dinner. Most of the days I planned out came to 750 calories, 40 g carbs, 95 g protein, and 20 g fat. My diet is to be high protein, low fat, low carb, low calorie for 2 weeks. Since I could just drink shakes 4 times per day for 2 weeks if I wanted (which I don't), I used that as a guide for my macros and calories goals (max 1000 calories, 80-120 g protein, 50 g carbs, 24 g fat). Its going to be tough and monotonous but its only for 2 weeks...right?
