Wow....that's one of the few times I've heard anybody say that! It might sound good, Nancy, but what if the federal government ruled in a way that you didn't like? Then you'd be all "Man it sucks to live here. I'd rather be in Canada". If the fed left more issues for individual states to decide, then at least you could decide to live in a state that had the same political / social beliefs as you. It's almost like political capitalism.

Don't you think it's a bit insane that certain southern states still have laws like that? Sometimes the fed government could do more good than harm.

I think people are fed up with these sort of stunts in this dire economy.

I believe most people, be it a smaller family or this one, can and would behave well if they had a camera filming them. We have no idea who cared for these 6 or really how they were cared for until the spotlight hit due to the 8 babies. It has been an issue with the family obviously or the womans own Mother would not be so fed up with her! I know to receive disability is not always an easy task, it often takes legal involvement to obtain. She receives it for herself and assitance for 3 kids..... It just boggles my mind why she would allow 6 embryos to be implanted....when she knew she was not raising her existing 6 without assistance. And while no, I am not going to get a bill in the mail for my share of the goverment aid they will receive....the money still comes from somewhere, and it is not HER pocket--the ONE and only person who made this decision. The ONE and only person who SHOULD be paying her own way in this debacle! There is a saying that if you are not part of the solution then you are part of the problem.....and while that is very black and white, I feel this situation is too, and she is without question, part of the problem. Yeah that happened to me too! It's bc we have to wait the 30 mins before and after we eat, so if you're eating frequent small portions, that time adds up! The window is just smaller Sent from my Pixel 3 using Tapatalk -

3 Months Today And I Could Just Scream!
Spatters3 replied to Pammie's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
yep, experiencing that right now. But guess what? We WILL lose weight because we really don't have any other choice. I remember when I was dieting that I would reach this point, I would stop losing, and I would say "to heck with this!" and just give up - and gain back everything I had worked so hard to lose and then some. But... this time, I CAN'T give up because it is physically impossible for me to eat too many calories (yeah, ok, if I sat in my recliner and fed myself ice cream all day long, I could). So... are we going to give up ? NO ! Are we going to be patient with ourselves and continue making good healthy food choices ? YES ! We shall persevere ! We too shall be "forced" to buy new wardrobes (hehehehe I can't wait !) ! We WILL succeed ! -
What a Christmas present!!! My approval was swift as I was scheduled for a total hip replacement revision surgery on 10/24 that got cancelled as my surgeon wanted it done in a bigger hospital and will be done in Traverse City, maybe in late March. I was immediately approved and got a date of February 25th. Barix called this morning and they had a cancellation and my new surgery date is now January 4th with a pre-op in December 26th!!! I am so glad I have been reading these forums ahead of time to try to avoid some of the pitfalls. I am going to need outside support as my daughter is totally against this and my husband is not too crazy about this either. We know quite a few who have had this procedure done - some breezed through it, a few had some issues, a few had major issues but the girl that worked with my husband died. It had something to do with the anesthesia, but it was still during this type of surgery so they think this is more dangerous than anything else. Four years ago, I had a gastric band put in. I guess it slipped right away and I have been bullemic and fat for the last four years. Right after I had it done, my husband's place of employment closed and now my primary insurer is Medicare with a BC/BS Medigap back-up plan and at that time, Barix did not accept Medicare so I was stuck. They now accept it and as I was already pre-cleared for the surgery that was cancelled, everything went quickly. My surgery will be January 4th at Barix in Ypsilanti, MI by Dr. Taylor. I live up north in the middle of the Huron National Forest.

How many calories are you averaging?
Stacy_wls replied to Ree's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm almost three weeks out and averaging just under 800 / day. The number has been slowly coming up - right after surgery 300 was tough. Yesterday I had a Protein shake in the morning, yogurt for snack, puréed chili for lunch and puréed chicken and snow peas for dinner, along with Fiber tummies, chewable Calcium and multi which put me at about 720. I was going to be done there, but was feeling weak bc I ran at the gym, so I added another Protein Shake which put me at 830. My nutritionist has not given me a calorie goal, she just wants me to focus on protein and eat until I'm satisfied, but listen to my body. I have been light headed a lot with the lower calorie intake. I keep thinking I should keep it low to lose more weight, but am trying not to let myself get in to any disordered thinking. I'm trying to focus on protein and make sure my body is nourished. It is interesting to see how there are so many different programs out there. -
Because with the patch it’s a one shot deal, taking pills you need multi, iron, calcium, vitamin D, extra Bs and B12 and some people like me suffer from constipation with all these supplements but not with the patch. Those are my reasons and labs have been great so far!

yea he said he didnt see the point of putting someone on a diet before weight loss surgery however I think its mostly bc I'm 18 and my insurance -
Are you are taking a Biotin pill? If so, what brand. In the past I had vitamin toxicity so I cant take too many vitamins. Don't laugh, but I take 2 Flintstone Multivitamin chewables w/extra iron, B12 tablet, and my regular meds...blood pressure, plavix, and cholesterol until I lose my weight. I'm anemic so I need the iron and these vitamins are really working well for me right now. I just dont want an overload bc of the consequences.

Is it like just below your shoulder blade? I have one too! Plus my mid back just aches all over many times. Tips I've gotten include waking/running with my thumbs pointing out bc it's hard to slouch doing that and to try and keep my head back against the headrest while driving (same reason) and yes of course core work. I thought yoga would be a bigger help than it's been, though. I go 2-3 times a week and have for months and doesn't seem to help!

So i have Florida blue bc/bs. Found out they DO NOT cover wls unless the doctor sends pprwrk saying its medically necessary along with proof and THEN they will review and decide. I asked if there were any other requirements and they said no. Ive already started the prerequisite appointments and have appointments scheduled into December 2016. What do i do? I don't want to go through all of this, just to be denied the actual surgery! My first appointment with nutrition is December 15th, then sleep study December 22nd! Should i talk to the surgeon? What proof are they wanting other than previous attempts at weight loss? Comorbidities? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Back in the 1960's, I saw an episode of Star Trek entitled "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" in which Captain Kirk and the crew of the USS Enterprise come across two humanoids; Bele and Lokai, from the planet Cheron. Each of them is half black and half white, starkly separated down the middle of his body. The only difference is one is black on the right side and white on the left, while the other is exactly the opposite. When I saw the show, I thought of it as a satire of race relations in the USA, but today I thought about it and realized that it might be more fittingly mocking the Jewish/Muslim battle now taking place in the Middle-East. If either Bele or Lokai were to stand in front of a mirror, he would see the image of his most hated enemy. A mirror image of a man white on his left would be a man white on his right. That is so fitting of today's (and yesterday's and probably tomorrow's) senseless slaughter taking place in and around Israel, because the Israeli and Muslim enemies are mirror images of each other. Abraham (Genesis 16) had two son's, one by his wife's maid-servant Hagar and then one by his wife, Sarah. The two sons, Ishmael and Isaac, are generally considered to be the fathers of Islam and Judaism, so the fight between Jew and Muslim is basically a family feud. In the "Let That Be Your Last Battlefield" episode of Star Trek, when Bele and Lokai return to their home planet of Cheron, they find a scene not too unlike that of Lebanon. The whole planet is now lifeless except for the two of them who beam down to continue their fight to the finish. Must the Middle-East lead the rest of the world down the same path taken by Cheron? Some will blame the problem on the Israelis. "They are bullying the Palestinians and the Lebanese", they will say. Some will blame it on the Muslims. "Hamas and Hezbollah are terrorist groups" they will say. "Iran and Syria are terrorist states arming terrorist groups" they will tell you. Bele and Lokai also had their excuses. "I'm white on the right, can't you see the difference?" Yet the Jews and the Muslims are both using the same tactic. Kill civilians until they put enough pressure on their leaders or until they choose new leaders to get their side to stop. But what has the despicable killing of civilians actually done? It has hardened each side's populace. There are many fewer Jews now ready to make piece with their Muslim brothers than there was three weeks ago. You might remember that after 911, the Republicans and Democrats came together in the US Congress to give President BuSh anything he wanted. There was unity in the streets of the USA. People; Black, White, Hispanic, Democrat and Republican were then Americans first. Osama Bin Laden and Al-Quaida brought the political left and right of the USA together. Well Israel's killing of civilians in Lebanon has brought the Sunnis and Shiites of the Middle-East together as never before. Even the Christians of Lebanon are now united with both the Lebanese Sunnis and Shiites. And the Sunni counties that have been friends of the USA are now criticizing Israel (and the USA) as if those Sunni countries were Shiite. President BuSh claims to believe in the sanctity of human life. He has vetoed legislation that would (in his opinion) destroy human life that is smaller than this period. Yet, he and Condoleezza Rice have proposed a piece-plan that must have "a lasting piece" which is a code-phrase for "when Israel wins". The Israeli prime minister told Ms. Rice that he might need 10 days to two weeks to win. Are we willing to watch both Israeli and Lebanese babies die for the next two weeks? Are those children any less valuable that the embryos that BuSh wants to protect? Sunday, a building in Lebanon was blown up with about 60 casualties. About 30 to 40 children died. About 600 Lebanese civilians including about 300 children have been killed in less than these 3 weeks. There have been about 30 Israeli civilians killed. Ms. Rice and Mr. BuSh claim that terrorism must be stomped out in the Middle-East (and around the world), but is it not terrorism to launch missile strikes, to fire artillery and use F16's to bomb populated areas? Hezbollah is wrong. Hezbollah is a terrorist group, but that does not make Israel right, nor does it make Israel any less of a terrorist country. People and countries must be judged, not by their friendship with the USA, nor the "Good Guy" sign that they fly, but by their actions. Israel is killing 20 Muslims (and Christians) in Lebanon for each Israeli that dies in the Hezbollah missile attacks. Doesn't "an eye for an eye" have any meaning to the Israelis? The bible does not say "20 eyes for an eye". Both sides are wrong. Both sides must stop fighting now. The USA must insist that there be talks. The USA must drop the BS line that we don't talk to terrorists. Pretending that Hezbollah, Syria and Iran do not exist just keeps the killing of babies going on for a longer time. Can't we learn something from Bele and Lokai, and Star Trek, or must the Earth wind up like the planet Cheron?

future2bsn: I've noticed that many of my well-to-do friends who have never worked in a service job are the poorest tippers. I have never been able to understand how they can expect people to be nice to them with their attitudes. A former friend of mine (I finally got fed up too) used to embarrass me and my husband as well as her own husband every time we went out to dinner. Something was always wrong with the table we got, the food we were served, the drink, the dessert, the coffee or the after dinner drink. ALWAYS. It was like she just craved the extra attention or maybe she just liked to lord it over people. She definitely was a control freak. I always wondered if she was the type of person that the restaurant staff spit in their food. If I get good service I overtip a server. If I get poor service I try to figure out if it is from inexperience or because of a really bad attitude. I tip the minimum if it is attitude - and you have to admit there are servers with bad attitude, although they are few and far between. As for the hairdresser in Orlando who demanded a tip, I honestly was taught that the owner of a salon would be offended by the offer of a tip and that it was in bad taste to tip them. So I didn't tip him because I thought it was the accepted practice. This guy had become famous from doing several movie stars' hair when they were in town and he used to travel with one national TV news gal. He was a pompus ass, but he did my hair well and it was fun hearing all the gossip he blabbed constantly. As far as I was concerned, he could have asked me in a courteous way why I didn't tip instead of outright demanding one. Or he could have had his receptionist handle it, very delicately. Instead he chose to embarrass me and insult me in front of the other patrons and probably told the story to everyone througout the rest of the day. Frankly I don't put up with that kind of treatment when I am paying someone for a service. Know what I mean?

I was all set to pursue this - then attended a seminar last night...
tifferoni326 replied to JustinsMama's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I went to a seminar hosted by another doctor who really pushed bypass..even for me who is young and not morbidlly obese..When i talkedto my doc he said he couldnt make a comment, but hisPA sure did. Basically she said it came down to money. 70,000 and up for bypass...30-50000 for band..thats a good bit of diff and a good deal of money..now im not saying all docs are greedy, and many paitents are better suited for by-pass, just letting everyone out there know of a different option. As for any risks with a non-native object..You can develop these reactions to anything, some people develop them to thier own organs. They made the tubing and port as less invasive and threatening to the body as possible. Most people dont have problems with it bc weve all had saline in us and plastic at some point. Surgery is scary. I dont try to sway people one way or another...but I found that this piece of plastic in me, has helped me discover who am really am good luck with your choice -
i have never understood why medical insurance will cover an abortion, but not BC. That seems totally inappropriate to me.

I have that nosey co-worker also. She has made it very clear in the past about her views on weight loss surgery. She has already asked twenty questions regarding a day off I took for my x-rays and lab work.... "Is this lab work something extra, or is this part of your yearly check-up exam?" All I said was I have to have some blood drawn. And she proceeded to go on and on about what our BC/BS pays for and what it doesn't. See how nosey she is? Both of her kids have lost 100+ lbs. with diet and exercise and feels that anyone else could do the same. (not that she has much room to talk) I work in an office of 5 people. What am I going to tell them? I can't just take a week off work for no reason. I am thinking of telling my boss that I need to have a cyst removed from my ovary. (is this a "white" lie?) I really don't want the lectures, and the constant questions about what I'm eating, what I'm drinking etc.....because I'll be hearing it day in and day out from my nosey co-worker. And I hate confrontation. So I guess I'm gonna lie regarding my reason for needing a week off work. I do like Carlene's responses...I've written them down to memorize!

White gravy that belongs on chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes is simple. You use some of the pan drippings and make a thick roux (although we never used that term years ago) with flour. Then you use milk for the liquid and lots and lots of pepper. There is a fine line between too thin and too thick. When you wind up with the glob of glop, you've made it too thick. It should be the consistency of... letsee... hmmm, I can't think of a thing like it. Thicker than cream Soup. The stuff definitely goes straight to your arteries. Our chicken fried steak dinner is preferably accompanied by the mashed potatoes (Yukon Gold) and fried okra. A perfect ending is Apple Cobbler (top and bottom crust - lots of cinnamon) and Caramel Ice Cream. The whole meal is death on a platter. But it is quite addictive and I was force fed it as a small child, therefore it is not my fault. :hungry: Nowadays we have gone healthy by substituting chicken for the steak.:heh: Except that since the band, I can't eat chicken. And I do not give in to the addiction more often than about once a year (maybe twice) on my DH's and DD's birthdays.
