Hi. I had sleeve yesterday and was released to home this afternoon. I currently drinking 2 oz of Gatorade zero with protein every 30 min and will switch to broth shortly with unflavored protein. Any advice to get this gas out? How do I know when to take the med RX for stomach cramping. I’m not sure if it’s gas or new stomach adjusting. Thanks all :). Scared but excited for this journey. The gas pain is intense.

Yes, I get the statements I know you starving aren't you hungry. I'm determined to make it through, this is my 3rd day of liquid I am still allowed to eat 3 to 4 ounces of protein, but that's my last results because next week it's all liquids no meat what so ever

I felt (feel) the same way. I'm lucky in that I only have 8 days of liquid before surgery (I'm scheduled for this Friday). I've found a few things helpful in getting through this liquid diet: Stay busy with non-food things. I went to work, cleaned our bathrooms, did outside yard work, went shopping / window browsing... Make a schedule of your liquids for the day. Like 8am: coffee with protein shake, 9am flavored water, 10am sugar free jell-o, 11am broth, etc.... It helps me to have "something" to look forward to and ensure I am drinking enough. If you have a family that you typically cook for, ask for help from someone else to do the cooking, or have easy foods. My kids ate some easy convenience food this week; the less time I am in the kitchen, the better. Constantly sip on something. Chew gum if you can. I have found these to be good distractions at times. A lot of people say this is the hardest part of this whole thing. Not sure if that's true, but literally trying to avoid the kitchen and food as much as possible has helped me. I know that is not always possible for everyone, but if it is, I'd say to just avoid and know that this is NOT forever! Good luck

Hi! Your progress is wonderful. Besides a multi-vitamin patch by Patch Aid i am using their biotin plus patch. I’m just about 8 weeks out from the sleeve and my hair is getting longer and trust me I am not eating nearly enough protein. The biotin plus patch seems to be really working. Good luck with the rest of your journey,

What was your "Last Meal" before starting the pre-surgery diet???
Turch replied to Jjohnson1971's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i went to Olive Garden, ordered Ravioli Carbonara and a coke. Of course salad and I had breadsticks. Day two and I'm hungry and nauseous. I have these gross protein meals to eat but I'd rather diet with grilled chicken and some veggies. -
Okay so weird I walk every single day and I just feel like I'm not even losing one little pound but I just I just started my liquid diet just been two days but I still have this week and next week but it's not all liquids I'm still able to include a protein as well

Thanks! I'm just terrified of dumping. I had a dumping episode Sunday for the first time after taking one of my medications with applesauce (as I've done since after surgery). I guess I didn't wait long enough to start drinking my breakfast protein. It was the most awful pain I've ever felt outside of childbirth. I would really like to avoid that happening again.

My hunger came back gradually too into my second year. I had my first experience of real hunger at about 8 months after a busy day when I hadn’t really eaten but not again for months. I still have times when I’m not really hungry or don’t eat all my usual portion & I’m 4 years out now. Because I eat regularly throughout the day I don’t really feel HUNGRY just yep must be time for my meal/snack. Your portion sizes slowly increase as your losing until you get to a point where you are consuming the calories & nutrients your body needs to work effectively & your weight stabilises. It’s then up to you to manage your portions & calories by permanently adopting the changes & things you’ve learnt within your lifestyle (what you need & how you want to live & enjoy your life). I eventually I reached a point where I was I eating about the accepted portion size of the protein, vegetables, fruit, dairy, etc. for my meals & snacks & to get in my daily calorie needs to maintain. It’s plenty of food & I don’t need or want more. I consume about 1500 calories which is appropriate for someone my height, age, weight & activity levels. (Interestingly I consumed about 1300 when I first stabilised & though I eat more now I’ve pretty much maintained my weigh. I presume to do with my body settling & adjusting.) I choose to rarely eat sweet foods or drinks. I don’t eat bread, rice, pasta or potatoes but then they tend to sit heavily so an easy choice. I tend to eat whole or low processed foods most of the time. Do I experience head hunger at times? Yes. But I recognise now that it’s not real hunger.Of course there are times I give in to it but I make better choices - like a few nuts, a little fruit or am trying beef jerky at the moment. It’s funny but I rarely specifically crave salt, sugar or a specific food anymore except sometimes after I eat yoghurt I will crave salt. Don’t know why though. This is how I am. You may be totally different & that’s okay. It comes down to how you manage it.

Hunger also came back gradually for me, along with my sweet-tooth - so gradually that I can't even pinpoint the time when I really noticed. I was just very slowly and steadily able to eat a little more. My weightloss was also a steady, slow thing, so I didn't have the big-loss numbers in the first five months others can have, I had constant stalls and a rate of loss no different to pre-surgery diet efforts. My loss did slow down closer I got to goal, but reaching goal also snuck up on me because the slow weightloss had me take my focus off the scale for a month or so because I just assumed it was going to take ages. That whole a-watched-pot-doesn't-boil thing. These days I try to keep my calories around 1500, which I'll always have to be super mindful of because it takes so little to go over. Grazing is the enemy. Protein keeps me satisfied the longest, so that's always got to be the priority. The plan is for life.

COLLEGE students - please help!
vsg2410 replied to goatsarecool's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I commend you for making this decision! One of my doctors first brought up surgery when I was in college. At that point, I knew I wasn’t ready to take my health that seriously. I wanted to have a “normal” college experience. I 100% do not regret waiting until after college to have the surgery since I knew I wasn’t ready. I’m still in my early 20s and it’s a tough life adjustment. My social life lessened a lot early on due to not being able to eat out or drink alcohol. I’d say in terms of college life that would be one of the bigger struggles post op. Also, depending on your dining options at school it can be difficult to track and have good options. At the beginning about the first 2 months it may be difficult to hide from your roommate that you’ve had surgery. The food options are pretty limited and the quantity is very small. But, a lot of college aged students have not struggled with weight yet and have no idea about bariatric surgery so they may never catch on! Also something to keep in mind, most people at my surgery center are out of work for 2 weeks. I know a lot of people say they feel fine after surgery, but it hit me hard and I needed the full 2 weeks off of work. I’ve heard that younger patients can have more side effects from anesthesia and that was definitely the case for me. So I’d definitely recommend at least 2 weeks before move in day. In terms of approaching the conversation with my parents, I told my mom that I had something important to talk to her about and I wanted her to support me in my decision. Later after I had gone through the pre surgical processes and had a date, I told my dad I decided to have surgery to improve my health and gave him the opportunity to ask any questions. Best of luck to you! -
Struggling… the evil voice is back.

I limit my simple carbs like bread, rice and pasta to less than 30g day, but don’t limit complex carbs. It is not just about calories in and out, macros play a big part in weight loss. I’m 7 months post op, appetite came back at 5 months but I go by the simple rules of protein, non starchy carbs, and unadultered fruit. I have lost 145lbs and now maintaining my weight at 180lbs. All that being said I track everything going into my body and all energy expenditures to ensure that I’m on track, just my way to ensure I don’t slip. My dietitian has said to live by the 80-20 rule, follow 80% of the time and save 20% for a cheat day, I have been brave enough to try for fear of slipping back to old habits. Best of luck, wishing you all the success to meet your goals. -
SoCal Kaiser Options Friends!
SleeveYouLater replied to Helen of LaCroix's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wrapped up my Options Classes on April 10. I'm scheduled for surgery on July 20. I can't wait. Good luck to you! -
You're absolutely right - it seems to be very different for different people. I had a gradual return of hunger at around 9 or 10 months. Probably over the course of a couple of weeks. If I ate my protein first I still felt full with around the same size of meal, I just wanted to eat again sooner afterwards. Then on top of that as the months progressed I could eat greater volumes - that continued AND I was hungry too. I learned here that head hunger is often craving a specific food or taste or texture, but real hunger can be addressed by eating most anything. So I started to have fruit and veg for snacks and that seems to have worked for me. My 3 main meals are protein first always. I could have just added another meal, but I had been concerned all along that I wasn't getting anything like the recommended fruit and veg intake. My weight loss had slowed when my hunger returned and I stopped losing more or less completely around 15 months post op. I'm 18 months out now and so far maintaining. Everything crossed.

Congrats your surgery is so soon. Mines the 15th so we are close. And just started preop diet. I would say stock up on crystal light, propel, protein20 water, and I like the fairlife chocolate shakes 30 G protein. I also got some ultima which are just like liquid iv but no have no sugar. When you are feeling sluggish or no energy they help.

What was your "Last Meal" before starting the pre-surgery diet???
Jjohnson1971 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I feel like its a death row question and I am aware that we get to eat again so that is not what this is about. Just for fun what was your "LAST MEAL" before starting the liver shrinking pre op diet? Ill go first. I had a Memorial day weeked where I smoked pork and a beef brisket on Saturday. Then my actual last meal was a Cajun style seafood boil with crab legs, crawdads, shrimp, corn and potatoes. Also had sea scallops just not done in the boil. it was done in a spicy cajun seasoning and was amazing. This morning was a coffee flavored protein drink. -

Any April Surgery Dates?
Shanna NYC replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I like to add Protein2O water. It counts as fluid and protein. They have both 15g and 20g versions. I’m still at the 70-80 goal currently at 7 weeks post op. Fluids are still a chore to get enough in. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
Clipper1 replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm supposed to get up to 120. That's almost impossible getting in my fluids, then trying to eat and drink protein shakes. Have any high protein tips and techniques? I'm struggling. -
Any April Surgery Dates?
TEXINFLA replied to rokse23's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My doc said to increase my protein intake. From 60-70g to 100-110g and that kick started my stall. Mine was on 4/28. Started at 350 and down to 295 today -
Laser skin tightening?
RaykiShorp replied to amithistrose's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
In terms of cost, non-invasive options like laser tightening can be more affordable compared to surgical procedures, which often involve more extensive interventions. However, it's important to note that the cost can still vary depending on factors such as the specific treatment, the provider, and the region. BTW, have you heard about PICO Laser Treatment? It's a cutting-edge technology that has shown promising results in various skin rejuvenation procedures. It might be worth exploring as an option for non-invasive tightening. As always, it's recommended to consult with a qualified professional who can assess your specific needs and provide you with personalized advice. -
Almost 5 years post-op/ taste-smell still compromised
catwoman7 replied to Born in Missouri's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I wish I didn't enjoy eating - it'd be a lot easier to control my weight! I was really hoping I'd be one of those minority of patients whose hunger never comes back, but unfortunately, it did. BUT....you should be taking your vitamins. Not taking them is not an option for RNY patients. Deficiencies are no joke. Some defiencies you can come back from, others you can't. Why aren't you taking your vitamins? -
Constipation
Jonathan Carlson replied to alyssasan19's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I was very cognizant of my protein intake on a daily basis I was constipated and had to take a laxative once in awhile to keep things moving. Lately I haven't been as good about hitting my protein goals so it hasn't been a problem.
