  1. Your Surgeon is absolutely spot on, IMHO go with the RNY bypass I chose VSG originally as I had no precursors to GERD/Reflux but I developed it along the way. I had to be converted to RNY. *Please note: It doesn't happen that way for everyone* The decision you may have to weight is if you are at a higher risk (which you are) will you be comfortable having a second surgery (revision/conversion) Good Luck❤

    Pre surgery liquid carb drinks?

Never heard of this but it makes better sense recoverywise than the starvation one usually has initially with weightloss surgery. Yes, There are no more self administered pain meds. They are very concerned with patients becoming addicted. This drove me crazy as I was in a lot of pain (which believe me poster is not usual at all) and oxycodone did nothing to stop it. I would have killed for a morphine drip. Don't worry poster my situation is very different from yours I was getting a revision from RNY to SADI and I am sure you will be fine.
  3. VRox33, Hello, and I’m a newbie as well😅. When I saw surgeon last Oct. my mindset was same as yours—set on sleeve, and only sleeve. He asked re: acid reflux and yes, I do have it at times. His explanation and picture drawing of what happens to GERD/reflux after sleeve was a major let down, but I (secretly) still held hope for sleeve. As I researched more, and especially the very real experiences on these support boards, I realized he’s SO on target. The risks/dangers/incidents of increased reflux after sleeve seem far riskier to my situation than RYN. Yes, we’ll perhaps have a few more challenges with absorption and medication adjustment, but hopefully, ideally, our surgery will not only be a “one and done” requiring no revisions, but our acid reflux will be greatly alleviated, as well. I also feel great trust and confidence that RYN has been around the longest, and still considered the gold standard by many people. Just my experience...Best Wishes in your decision!
  4. March 3rd, sleeve to bypass revision. I started my pre-op diet this week (I don't need to for another 2 weeks but I wanted to get a head start). The hard part for me is that I will be travelling for 3 weeks before my surgery, so I hope that I can deal with all the different foods while away. I'm an outlier here as I'll be getting my surgery done in Estonia (!). I live in Japan and there's only one really expensive place in Tokyo to get it done -- it's just easier and cheaper for me to go abroad, since no matter what I choose, I have to self-pay. I had my last surgery in Mexico, so this will definitely be a change. It's really interesting how different the recommendations between the US/Mexico and Europe are for eating both pre- and post-op. I get to have a full meal (carb-heavy) the day before surgery!

    Bypass Surgery March 2020

I'm scheduled for my bypass revision (like you, my second surgery after a sleeve 3 years ago) in early March. Good luck!
  6. The band didn't perform up to advertised / reported specs. Ended up with some minor issues and struggled to keep the weight off. Revised to Bypass, dropped the rest of my weight and have kept it off for over a year now. Coming up on 2 years post revision in March.

    Revision Surgery

I had revision due to weight regain. But I think I am an outlier. If I had to do it again I wouldn't. I have had no weightloss due to the surgery. Just my usual two pounds a month due to dieting. I had a surgery that isn't done very often. It was from RNY to a gastric sleeve and SADI. I think most people who have WLS revision due to weight regain after an RNY have a distal revision. But I'll let them talk about there surgery, if they are lurking around.
  8. What prompted most people to do the revision surgery?
  9. I am having a hiatal hernia repair, sleeve revision and epiphrenic gastric diverticulum resection. I have never heard of the last part. Has anybody had this before?
  10. Unfortunately (or fortunately) I was having such problems with my lap band having slipped that I wasn't able to binge much before my revision surgery. I DID manage to eat a nice piece (or two) of cheesecake, which promptly made me barf, but it was worth it!

    February Surgery ?

had my revision surgery yesterday in Tijuana. They said I didn't get a video of my surgery since it was complicated. I'm a little sore today but feeling good overall. The gas is for real. I feel sorry for my husband stuck in this hospital room with me farting. lol
  13. Sounds like you are NOT enjoying life as normal if you are in constant pain from your GERD. Has your doctor explained that constant GERD can make changes in your lower esophagus that can eventually turn to cancer? And you may be able to put off GERD with your "double dose nexium", but studies are suggesting that long term PPI use is being implicated in problems such as osteoporosis, kidney disease and vitamin deficiencies. And your GERD is not likely to improve without some sort of surgical intervention. And once you get through the post op diet, you should be able to eat the same food you feed your family, just a smaller portion. I hope I don't come across as being harsh, but your health will be affected by your GERD, and I know the thought of a revision seems daunting, but in the long run you might be much happier if you address it soon. Whatever you decide, good luck! Keep us posted.
  14. ... I'm going to get my revision. I scheduled everything today. Hiatoplastic, gastropexia and a change to RNY anastomosis. Dammit... I don't really want to do it...

    Revision weight loss

    Revised not reviewed.
  16. I am at my goal weight of 175~180. I have to revise to RNY due to intractable GERD. Has anyone else reviewed at their goal weight? What I really want to know is how much weight loss should I expect. If you have revised, how many pounds did you lose. Thanks in advance for your answers!
  17. Honestly? If I were in your present mind-set? I would ask myself very honestly and carefully, if I get this surgery, what will change? Because the "supposed" truth from the docs is that revisions do not have "quick weight loss" and if you ate your way back up to your pre-surg weight, what will stop you doing it again when life gets sucky? Also by your admission you don't want to make the lifestyle changes that lifelong weight management takes--even after WLS. Plus drinking your cals along with eating poorly, I just don't think magic bean surgery has been invented yet. I would start preparing by starting counseling with a bariatric specialist.
  18. I haven't had a revision (I got RNY the first (and only) time around because I had GERD), but I've been hanging out on this and other bariatric forums for several years, and most everyone who's had a revision is very glad they did.
  19. Hello there, Longtime lurker, first time poster here!🖐️ I had my stomach stapled (vbg) in 2003. Went from 320 lbs to 189, I don't remember in how long. But I was never comfortable eating, threw up most of the time(due to in part no education pre-op whatsoever back then, but also as it turns out a stricture). could not tolerate meats of any kind and soon after realizing how easy it was for me to tolerate "sliders", I started gaining weight. So over 15 years I gained back up to 276 lbs. I started being ok with myself, started buying cute clothes( well as much as I could) and stopped dieting. Over the years I developed fibromyalgia, psoriatic arthritis, osteoarthritis and a few other choice chronic conditions, so I decided it's time for me to get serious about my health(without dieting) and my biggest concern at the time was the ridiculous acid reflux, that would sometimes wake me up by rushing into my nose!! And I had started developing more severe symptoms that resembled gastritis . Anyways, a year ago I started seeing a gastroenterologist, who after further exploration discovered the stricture and budding gastritis. He told me right then that the position of my stricture is not going to be helped by dilatation, and my only way is a revision. Of course, 1- I did not think insurance would pay for it, so out of the question. 2- I did not want to have any more "elective" surgeries. 3- I had just started being ok with myself and advocating for big people, remember? So, I chose to do a dilatation and my doctor was willing to try. Did NOT work! Big surprise! My doctor made an appointment with a revision bariatric surgeon, without consulting me. Gotta love how things work out! Anyways, long story short...er😉, here I am jumping through insurance hoops to get approved for a revision to rny bypass. My question is, in people's experience, did the fibro pain get any better after weight loss? Thanks for bearing with me through the long post and thank you, all for the vast wealth of information on this website!
  20. So, 13 years ago, I weighed 350 pounds. I made a commitment to change, and lost 100 pounds through dieting. After that, in Sept. 2013, I had a sleeve procedure and hernia fix (without complications) and went from 250 down to 155 (my lowest) in 2016. That's when the problems began. I have been suffering with terrible on and off gastritis, constant GERD and reflux, stomach ulcers, and my hiatal hernia needs repair again. I have had two recent endoscopies, including one with a Bravo probe, and the surgeon claims the only way to permanently fix the problem to to revise from a sleeve to RNY. The problem is, I do NOT want full on bypass. I am terrified. I like my life as it is, and I can't imagine going through the surgical recovery process again. I am remarried now, and have a ten year old daughter, and I can't imagine what our family meals/vacations/birthday parties are going to look like post-RNY. I am at the point with my sleeve that I have reincoporated most foods, and eat relatively normally. All of this decision making stress has made me go off the rails with my eating plan, and I have regained almost all the weight I lost (back up to 230 pounds), partially because I have been eating everything in sight, preparing for the moment after which I will "never be able to eat normally" again. I approach every meal with a "last supper" mentality. I enjoy food and beer and traveling, and I don't want to constantly be the odd man out at functions. I am tempted to have the revision for purely vanity reasons - a quick weight loss fix for what I've regained. Nothing I am currently suffering is imminently dangerous, nor is it constant - I have excruciating flare ups. My surgeon will not fix my hernia without doing the whole conversion, because he claims it's "useless" to fix one without doing the other. So, here's what I ask everyone...to anyone who's had the revision...is it worth it? I'm tempted to just keep taking my double dose nexium and drinking my Gaviscon, and enjoying my life as normal. I have a husband who loves and accepts me, and I don't want to do this and risk my life for a surgery simply for appearance's sake. If I can live with my current pain, can't I ride this out with my little sleeve which worked so well until depression made me abuse it? Do I just get back on track, or go under the knife? I have never been so torn. Please help!!! Thank you for listening

    Forced to do Bypass

Thanks for this thread everyone! I am having revision surgery on 3/27, from sleeve to RNY, due to reflux and regaining all 60 lbs I lost with the sleeve 😭. Hoping to at least get rid of the reflux and losing the weight again would be a great bonus!

@HappyHikerGal How was your experience at Oasis of Hope? I’m scheduled for revision surgery with Dr. Gonzalez on 3/27 and just looking for feedback on the facility, staff and overall experience. Which procedure did you have done? Thanks!

    Gastric band repair advice

You can get a band replaced or repaired but most people that have this done do not find it as effective as when they were banded initially. It is now believed that the safe useful lifespan of a band is between 10 -15 years. They are not the damage free option that they were once thought to be and have fallen massively out of favour. Some exbandsters get revised to a sleeve but this has its own set of issues that can be exacerbated by having had a band previously. The revision of choice is generally to a Roux en Y gastric bypass. That sounds horribly scary until you do more research . I had my revision in Jan 2018 and couldn’t be happier. To me the rny does what the band was marketed as being able to do but never really did. I eat small portions of healthy food and am satisfied. No more being stuck, no more nights out wasted in the bathroom because my first bite of food got stuck. No more horrible feeling of pressure in the chest, when I’m full I feel it like a “normal” person would

How long have you been banded? It might be time to consider a revision to something like RNY
