I'm OK 23 lbs down the pass 3 weeks (pre-op diet and now post-op life). No complications bit mild nausea because of gas/acid - indigestion. Apparently it's not usual, but I'm avoiding eating bc of the nausea, fluids are good though. Waiting for tomorrow so I can call my doc to see what kind of antacids I can take. Late June Sleeve Buddies?
magoosmom replied to Maggie143's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Stalls suck! My scale has been my friend this past week. Broke 260 finally last weekend and then yesterday it showed 249! Again, this is in a nightgown without shoes lol. It's been crazy how fast it dropped this week. So when that stall breaks, be ready to celebrate! I didn't get a chance to eat bfast yesterday bc I was heading out with my mom and aunt. They stopped at a Starbucks and I ordered a bacon Gouda egg sandwich. Took the bread off and ate the egg. Such a bad decision. Miserable the whole time. No eggs for me! I just don't tolerate them. Maybe later on but it isn't something I crave at all, so I am ok if I never can eat them like that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
September Surgery...Lets do this
Saria Fleming replied to etorres's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yeeesss me! I got approved for surgery so quick took like a month because I had several doctor records trying to lose weight since middle school and all failed so now I'm 25 and scared as crap bc my support group is small as well as my support team but I know that it's within myself where my support really relies on. But my surgery is September 20th 2016, yaaaay let's get it!!! Sent from my Z963VL using the BariatricPal App -
Pre/Post Surgical Plans Are Not Required
WLSResources/ClothingExch replied to 4MRB4PHOTO's topic in Rants & Raves
I did not comment on you or your preparation for surgery and life beyond it, both of which I heretofore had no knowledge. I did not express an opinion of you; I have none. The topic is neither about you nor my view of any individual. It is about ways in which people make unreasonable and ludicrous demands, throw tantrums and delude themselves. It is about the frustration and fed-upness they engender. I accept no responsibility for your taking my notes personally. As you and I do not communicate well, I'll let it slide now. I do wish you well with your bariatric and weight-loss endeavors. -
Anyone with a low BMI (30-33) had sleeve surgery or will be?
hats123 replied to SD123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi again. everyone! These forums are so big that it's hard to know exactly which threads to post in. Please redirect me if I'm in the wrong place. I had my surgery on Thursday, 8/11, and came home the next day. Friday and Saturday were hard because I was so, so sore, like I had done 10,000 sit-ups. I'm still really sore, but it started to get better yesterday and is noticeably better today. Today is day 3 or 4 depending on whether you count surgery day. So far the only nausea was immediately post-op, and from the pain reliever drip they gave me in the hospital. But Zofran has been a great solution to that. I definitely feel like I'm crossing over from the hideously horrible phase and would say I'm officially on the mend. I lost a few pounds on the pre op diet, but I don't know where that stands since my home scale is being fickle, and bc I had so much IV Fluid in the hospital. Today I get to start the shakes again -- can't believe how much I am looking forward to that! Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
Hi - it's helpful to read your message - simply because I haven't had the surgery yet - still looking for a surgeon - and knowing that you must stick to a plan after is important - and is a good thing. You had told me about the surgeons in Richmond (I'm orig from Vanc) and I did contact them but have to be resident of BC and 2 year wait. I finally saw my doc last week and she referred me locally - but referral was declined due to the fact the surgeon doesn't do sleeve - just band. Not interested in that. So until I hear back from my doctor about other possibilities I may have to go to Montreal after all. She didn't like the idea as no after-care and I agree. There are topics online about all the people going out of province or country for this surgery and then coming back home and having to fall on the system without having a local surgeon to help if there are issues. Quite confused now - I don't want to wait 2-3 (and that's the lowest wait, Alberta has longest waits in Canada I believe) so want to do self-pay. I don't think the Richmond clinic does self-pay. How are you doing with the surgery now? Do you feel back to normal? Has it been difficult?

Any others *exhausted* on the pre-op diet?
gina171 replied to sleeveNC's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am very tired as well. A little more scattered in thought than usual, but I chalk that up to being excited BC surgery day is close.RNY on the 18th. Which surgery are you having? Are you having any low/mid back pain? I am afraid I might be irritating my kidneys w too much Protein and drastically low carbs. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Any 7/14's- post op?
reducer623 replied to reducer623's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Same here! What was your BMI starting out? I've been told & read repeatedly that lower BMI's drop weight slower. Then you know there's the legendary 3 week stall that can last for weeks. Hang in there. I've stopped going on the scale bc I'd feel discouraged. I now only weigh once per week. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
5 Days from Surgery....and I Can't Think Straight!
gina171 posted a topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
My RNY is this Thursday (HOW is it even possible that it is almost here???!!!), and my brain is fried. I can't think straight. I start one task then stop halfway through and do something else. I walk upstairs to get something then forget why I am there. I'll have a conversation with someone and nod politely, but inside my head I am not listening to a word they are saying, just thinking "A week from right now I will be 2 days post-op!" I have no second thoughts, I am excited to get to the other side, but ..... I am just amazed it's really happening. I have so much to get done, I only really have 2 days to prep BC I am going on a short trip to move my daughter into college right before surgery (literally the day before, but I won't be doing any lifting at all since I'll be on Clear liquids that day...there for moral support only). So much to do and I can't even get my mind calmed down enough to write a list. Normal? Please say it is? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -
Very emotional and need support

That's BS. He's putting you down because he's scared you are going to gain confidence and decide you are worth more than his garbage. I don't know if he's normally a decent guy, and just being a jerk now. If he's typically a jerk, you deserve better. If he's normally a good person, call him on his behavior. Tell him that you have no intention of leaving him, and just want to be healthy so you can be there for your family and future grandbabies (and whatever other reasons you have). Tell him this ugly behavior is beneath him, and you want the caring, supportive man you love back. You may want to consider couple's counseling. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

Low-mid back pain.....too much protein?
gina171 posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
On my second week of high Protein, very low carb, and I am getting that same mid-low back pain that I got when on Atkins years ago. I remember it very well, BC it's sort of in a weird place, not typical back pain. Anyone else get this on high protein?? I certainly overdid the protein yesterday w too many shakes (177 grams of protein total), so I'm going to slow down on the protein (keep it at 90) and add in some fruits and veggies to up the carb/protein ratio. And double the Water to 128 ounces today. Just wondering if this is common? Surgery in 6 days. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

I'm just starting the process again. Had the band for 6 years and went from 240 to 160. Had emergency removal in January, 2015 (I had an unexpected pregnancy and I think it affected placement). My insurance company at the time had no bariatric coverage so I paid for the removal out of pocket. I regained most of my weight over the next 18 months. Thankfully, my new policy Anthem BCBS does have bariatric coverage. I have talked to my primary care physician and she is on board with me getting the bypass surgery, especially as she just had gastric bypass surgery herself last year. She started to document a medically supervised diet at my appointment last week. I'm confused about a few things, though. First, my current bmi is around 36, so I know the approval process could be trickier. I don't have any of the more serious co-morbs but my doctor thinks my documented history of GERD and depression (only periodic) will suffice. I'm worried Anthem will be picky, though. I haven't had an initial appointment with a surgeon yet bc I'm wondering if I should "gain some weight" before I weigh in again with my pcp. I just need to add 20 lbs, and I am pretty sure I could fake that with a high sodium diet, Water, heavy clothing and some well placed weights. But would that look bad if I gain weight after the documented diet began last week? Has anyone else attempted to get approved with <40 bmi with these less severe co-morbodities? Any suggestions or advice? Thanks!

Curious questions...
madisunshine1 replied to MickiinFL's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm a newbie but I do think about food. I do want more food and to eat things I shouldn't, partially due to restriction of certain foods I.E. meat, Etc. I am having to retrain my bran and emotions through this time. I do "miss" food and crave food. But bc of the limitations of my new tummy, i know I cannot over eat and/or eat "bad food". But my cravings are still there. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App -

You should be eating the amount recommended by surgeon or nutritionist. You don't want to feel full. Many of those foods are sliders. Be careful.I just thought my body would signal more. I don't know. Same goes with Protein shakes. No feeling of fullness. I have stuck mainly to eggs and cheese and protein shakes. Bc I know those hold more nutritional value and more protein than pudding or potatoes. He didn't give me a specific ounce per meal nor a calorie goal. He did give me protein goals and Fluid goals, obviously. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Your body won't send full signals until its too late. Protein shakes, yogurt, pudding are all foods that go quickly through your sleeve so you can usually eat more. My plan says 1-2 Oz's every 3 hours (eat over 20 mins or less). I don't know if that's the same as yours. That's only for food - not liquids. I would just be concerned of overeating and getting sick. You can really hurt yourself this early out. Am on Flagyl now. I plan to keep on top of this. I am going to contact the infectious disease team at the hospital myself. I am worried about pain in my bowel and the length of time the inflammation has been present. Blood is never a good sign. I don't want to make a fuss but at this point, I am getting a bit fed up with the lack of post op care that I am receiving. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Has anyone taken topamax after surgery?
