Gastric sleeve maybe

Good for you for taking control of your health at an early age! All the evidence suggests that it's incredibly unlikely for people to successfully lose weight on their own - no more than 5% of those who lose weight with diets are able to maintain that loss longterm. The stats for bariatric surgery is about 50% success which is dramatically higher. As you say - you're an adult and you can make your own decisions. I wish this surgery was an option for me when I was your age. Wishing you the best in your journey, and hoping you can find people to support you. -
So i start my pre-op diet tomorrow and i am hoping that it is easier than it sounds. No real food for 9 days, but i guess it is for the good because it is getting me for the diet for the next few weeks after surgery. If anyone has any ideas on good protein shakes please do tell. I am still very nervous but i guess i have a little piece of mind with it knowing that i will be around for many years with my kids. I want watch them grow up and have babies of their own. Any words of wisdom from anyone is welcome!!!!

Yes the premiers are good. I also like the Eas carb advantage. These are both great ready to drink options. Go to the Vitamin Shoppe or GNC and grab some Nectar samples to mix up at home. RTD shakes are nice, but they are pricey. The advantage of Nectar is it really doesn't have a protein shake taste. Unjury is very similar to Nectar in terms of taste, protein, and calories, but lacks all of the different flavors that Nectar comes in. And one other piece of advice, stir the Nectar and Unjury don't shake unless you want tons of foam.

April Surgery Date!
idahoanmom replied to Jerseygirl82's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My preop diet is to lose 5% in 90 days or 10% if I don't do 5 in 90. I just had a weigh in ...down 3...amazingly...and have 5 to go! Asked the coordinator about preop diet...she said I am on it. I am doing a protein shake in am then 2 or 3 times a day I can have salad, chicken or fish and cottage cheese as much as I want but only as much as I can eat in 20 minutes. Set a timer then once it goes off we are done! 60 oz of water too. -
I like the ready made premier protein shakes, I get them at costco.

My dietician said 80 grams a day and I thought I was close...I went back through diary was always around 60. So going to start adding unflavored protein to food Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-N920A using BariatricPal mobile app

The answer is yes. I use unjury Protein and their directions are not to heat above 140 degrees. Two things happen: The protein clumps up and it is not very tasty and the protein breaks down. I never warmed up to Isopure drinks. I never liked how they tasted. Also according to my guideline I can only have 60-70 grams of protein and they always drove me too high in protein.

Protein Drink witch one
Redux replied to sharoninidaho's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Premier Protein, chocolate, vanilla and strawberry. They all taste fine to me. -
Christmas has been such a hard time to follow the pre-op diet! I just gave it up for a week because I had my step-kids here for a week and they love my cooking. So it was time for me to cook their favorites--homemade mac'n cheese, spaghetti etc. Then taking them to dinner, making breakfast... it was too hard. They leave tomorrow, but my son is coming today. He is 20 and bringing two friends with him because they are hitting the New Years parties and concerts in Nashville. I have to say that since I haven't been following a diet this week it has made me realize how badly I do eat and how crappy I feel and over tired I am. I felt MUCH better on low-carbs! So--despite new company coming for another week, I am jumping back on the horse. I can't stand feeling this run-down and I can absolutely say it is the foods I've been eating. Hello protein!

Caroline from Walla Walla, being banded on
Lovinglapbandliving replied to jocarojo's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I found a Surgeon who will Adjust my lapband eventhou my surgery was done in Mexico. I have been wondering about going back to Tj for fills because my Surgeon Dr. Kelly is a wonderful DR. It is just hard to find someone to watch my 3 kids to go. And the person I found is only 1.5 hours away and I can take them with me. (I will just make a field trip out of the day) THe fill dr here charges 150 for the fill and 350 if he needs to use the flouro. $500 ouch! But what are my options?! I hope he wont have to use fluro or I am out of luck and out of money! Fill centers USA is good but they are 200 miles away! It is 350 for the first round with fill centers, I believe it includes fluro????? I dont know.... I just wish I could go to my surgeon which I cant do with 3 kids! Should I keep my appt on the 8th? I have the 150 but not the 350 more if fluro is needed. I am just hoping it wont be needed! or cancel the appt on the 8th and find a bb sitter who will watch my kids for days so I can go back to TJ. My surgeon only charges $200 and he ALWAYS does fluro. I need to see how much the ticket would be......... or cancel the 8th and go to Fill centers USA drive 200 miles one way with kids pay 350 and hope it covers the fluro and fill. Options options.... For all of the MOMS out there.... What would you do? -

Adding protein powder to food???
DaddyD replied to kittyforet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is the recipe I did. It originally called for some Peanut Butter cookie flavored Protein powder that I didn't have (though it sounds awesome) so I just used my chocolate EAS powder. Worked well though. 2 large eggs 1/2 cup part skim milk ricotta 1/2 cup protein powder 1/2 teaspoon baking powder pinch of salt Whisk or blend together, and cook like regular pancakes (I suggest making them small) on a medium-hot griddle sprayed with nonstick cooking spray. I found they puffed up nicely but kind of deflated as they cooled. Still, they were nice spread with a little bit of sugar-free preserves and rolled up. -
Should you blenderise or strain your cream shops to de-lump?
jane13 replied to nomorechubbybutt63's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
watch the sodium in the canned Soups. are you cleared for pureed? "having a bad time?" I was recovering in a 25' RV post-op so, trust me, organization was not happening:) I drank a lot of Protein drinks and strained cream of chicken, egg drop, broccoli & cheese Soup, FF pudding, cottage cheese, scrambled eggs, Greek no-fat yogurts that was flavored (no fruit) at first. I couldn't stomach the taste of the SF popsicles or Jello. Made me wretch every time -
Buy double pasteurized egg white and add those to your drinks. It gives you added protein without any taste.

Adding protein powder to food???
DaddyD replied to kittyforet's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I made chocolate-ricotta pancakes the other day, and they were made of just ricotta, protein powder (EAS Whey chocolate), eggs, baking powder and a little salt. They were surprisingly decent. -
Adding protein powder to food???
kittyforet posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I've heard a few people mention adding Protein powder to their food, yougurt, etc..... Does anyone do this, like during the mushies stage or even at any time? If you add Protein Powder to yogurt, does it make it taste better? I'm not a big fan of yogurt, but if adding the protein powder to it will make the yogurt taste better AND give me the protein I need then I can try it?? I know there will come a time that I won't be allowed or encouraged to drink Protein shakes, so I'm trying to find out now what people have done to use the protein powder.... Thanks! kristi -
Protein Shakes! Help!
BigGirlPanties replied to Rachelle_B's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't use many powders...didn't like the texture... but for after (if your doc insists on powder for now) you may qualify for free Protein shakes thru InsureNutrition.com it only takes a minute to fill it out and you can do it now, so you will have it ready when needed For the powders, you can add crystal light and possibly Torani syrups (sugar free) to help with the flavor... I find blending them with ice made them more digestable for me. -
Thinking My Surgeon Has Lost His Mind!
AliveAgain replied to jiggyjen1982@yahoo.com's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Instincts exist for a reason. I would say this doctor's "plan" is unorthodox compared to mine, and from what I've read, many others. For what it's worth, I was on Clear liquids first week, started incorporating more full liquids the second week. Third week, slowly bringing in the mushies (greek yogurt, cottage cheese, applesauce). I wasn't even comfortable with solid foods until four weeks out, and even then it was another 1-2 weeks before I was more solid than mushy or liquid. As for lifting, my doctor said nothing over 25 pounds the first two weeks, then take it down by 5 pounds each week. He said it takes the stomach and the internal stiches about 6 weeks to FULLY heal. I would agree. As for soda, this is your chance to break any bad habits, so I would. I wasn't much of a soda drinker before surgery, but I did enjoy a good bubbly Water. Haven't touched the stuff since a week or so before surgery. Don't miss it at all! Well, I did have a tiny sip of an Orangina soda at dinner the other night (my husband loves to get it at our favorite Italian place). Granted, by the time I took a sip, it was a little flat. It really didn't do anything for me, didn't want more, just seemed like sweet empty calories. Take some time to browse these forums, you'll start to get an idea of what most doctors are saying and be able to form your own opinions. The important thing is to listen to your body, measure what you eat, pay attention to ingredients and how you prepare food, eat slowly, follow the no drinking before/after meal rule (10-20 min before, 30-45 after), take small bites, and the rest will happen naturally. The first two weeks are really about keeping your hydration up, taking your Vitamins and meds, and working up to the protein/calorie count that will help you best. -
I'm sore that true. By port incision is the sorest. I can tell that I still have gas, my tummy is extended. I did have a BM today though. I also had yogurt. It was good to have something other then jello, protein or water. I've also had about 15 fish crackers through out the day. I'm going to the movies w/Steph and her kids to get away. My kids have been just bored and bothering each other and I need out and DH sees this. He's the one that called her for me. Ok it's fucken hot and I need to get away from the computer.

Too Much Acid In Esophagus At Night!
Mrs.Newme replied to ravenjeh's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
This is a strong debate on another thread. I've had similar experiences when hungry or when lying flat. Prior to my sleeve, I rarely had heartburn. When I did it was due to a direct cause, such as pregnancy with my last child or some type of food that didn't sit right with me. I've found acids do come up rather quickly and have done some investigating into reasons for acid reflux when I didn't experience this before. There are times where it is stronger for me: 1) when I am hungry 2) when I wake in the morning and am lying completely flat 3) when I take in too much and the sleeve tells me nope...it isn't going to fit. I can't speak to your antidepressants, but have you contacted your surgeon to see if its okay to take them in the am? Or maybe take them with something like your Protein drink? I kind of look at my sleeve like a narrow soda bottle, if you overfill it will back up explosively. If there is not enough items to balance teh acids, the same thing occurs. I have to take OTC prilosec, but doesn't stop the gastric secretions completely. But the Protein Drink soothes. I have also found a sf mint helps also with soothing the burn. Good luck. -
