  1. Hi there - as I said in the reply in PMs, I thought I'd respond to these questions here so more people can hopefully benefit: It's probably surgeon dependent. There's not a lot of evidence that a bypass > 150cm induces a lot more weight loss than one at the now-standard 150cm. There's a lot of evidence it increases the risk of nutritional issues, though, because the longer it gets, the closer you are to a DS-like malabsorption. So consider your needs. The MGB is just a different bypass, not more or less full than RNY. The stomach is like a sleeve, but it's open in the end as opposed to the sleeve, meaning food passes through quickly. And that's the point of the surgery, to induce early satiety. If you're looking for forced restriction, MGB isn't it. I can eat whatever I want in basically the quantities I want. I just ... don't want to eat a lot because I feel full and satisfied! fast. But then again, if you're looking for forced restriction, therapy is where you want to go. No surgery will fix an eating disorder. Very. Hunger comes back, and I obviously can't compare any of them on myself, but the idea of MGB isn't to eliminate hunger. It's to make you feel feel and satisfied really fast, so you'll eat less, you'll naturally want to eat a better diet, and you'll be happy with that. Also, you asked somewhere else which surgeries had the most intestinal bypass. It goes like this: Band/Sleeve: None -- RNY -- MGB -- DS, with the loop-DS and longer-bypass MGB being fairly close to each other.
  2. I am intrested in getting a revision from vsg to mgb. Do you get to choose how long the dr should make your bypass? How small do they make your stomach, the size of vsg stomach or the size of full gastric by pass? Are you guys happy with the results? Do you get less hungry with the mgb as opposed to the vsg or lapband? Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺

I was going through my insurance requirements for revision surgery. I found it interesting that for something that supposedly rarely happens, it's a documented reason for revision for sleeve to bypass. 🤔
  5. HW - 237 LW - 137 (this was also my goal weight) CW - 155 I hit my goal weight 8 months after surgery (November 2019) but, by about 13 months out I was up to 150 pounds, and have been maintaining my weight in the 150’s ever since. I have maintained my weight here for two years and am comfortable, but still long to lose the 20 pounds I regained, and STILL fear gaining back all of the weight.
  6. Not all gastric bypassers experience dumping syndrome - in some studies it's less than 40%. Far fewer sleevers do, which makes sense given their routing of the small intestine is unchanged. Alright, I guess I didn't read that correctly.

Hi! I’m new here! My gastric bypass is scheduled for Monday 3/28. So anxious but ready.

You had reflux with your band and your surgeon revised you to sleeve? I see your revision was recent. I'm curious if you have reflux still but I assume you're on a PPI so it's too soon to know what happened with the reflux. I'm pretty sure I've seen people on this site that had sleeve with a normal bmi that developed GERD and they had to revise to Bypass to cure the GERD.

    March surgery buddies

Hi I had my gastric bypass 3/16. I am 2 days into my Purée Stage. The liquid stage was easy in the beginning but toward the end it was becoming boring. Your stomach is smaller so liquid phase wasn’t difficult for me as much as boring-I was ready for Stage 2. I was really excited to have some purée food and I started with 8oz of skim milk with 1/2 tablespoon of Hershey’s simply 5 syrup. It was delicious and I am NOT a milk drinker. The milk counted toward my water allotment and honestly that is the MOST difficult part so far. You have drink but stop 1/2 hr before a meal than wait 1/2 hr after your (20 minute meal). There are some factors to consider to eat proper for nourishment and hydration. I lost 11 lbs. in a week so it’s working. YOU will lose weight. How is everyone else doing?
  10. I had my VSG by dr ortiz at occ in 2019. At the time he mostly did VSG and dis not do Mini Gastric Bypass. Can you tell me how much he charged you for the MGB and why you decided to get revisional surgery? I am not happy with the VSG results, I am always hungry. This issue is really affecting my life and peace of mind. Also I am still 30 lbs overweight. Sent from my SM-N950U using BariatricPal mobile app

I need correct my statement. I looked it up again. He does Lapband, sleeve, bypass and duodenal switch. Under the bypass info it has info about RYGB but nothing about mini bypass.
  12. That's a good idea! Thanks for the suggestion. My insurance should cover a repair that isn't actually bariatric surgery. I wonder if the surgeon could do a bypass and my secondary would pick it up when my primary doesn't. I'll have to research more about it. I have an appt. with a surgeon in a couple weeks. Who is your surgeon?

Now thinking if canceling surgery 🥺

Don't over think it, This fear (GERD) drove me to have a melt down right before surgery and to be highly anxious for weeks after surgery. I had reflux before surgery for many years and had been on 20-40 mg of Nexium daily for about 15 years and as my weight got higher so did the occurrence of my reflux to the point of along with the Nexium I was going through a bottle of Gaviscon a week. fast forward 8 months post op I still take 20 mg Nexium daily but only because I am to scared to tapper off as I remember the rebound reflux from prior to surgery when I would try to come off them and I have to be honest I suck a Gaviscon dual tablet if I get the slightest inkling of reflux which I think half the time is in my head lol. So prior to surgery I told my surgeon reflux was my biggest fear as I didn't want a bypass either and I certainly didn't want to have to have a second surgery, He said the weight loss would reduce the reflux and I think he is right. its just my own fears and thinking about it and sometimes eating the wrong things or too much that causes me get reflux now and its pretty mild. Now I am going to say this and I don't mean any offence to anyone as it is just what I have observed, a lot people who have had revision surgery due to GERD/reflux also seem to have had a substantial weight gain too, now if anyone out there has experienced different I stand corrected but that's what I have noticed. So that is a pretty good incentive for me not to regain. Talk to your surgeon though as he/she is the best to advise you we can only share our experiences

    Gastric Bypass Yesterday

Thank you for sharing. I anticipate hernia repair and bypass mid April. I remember the need to walk after having c-sections and you have reminded me. I hope you are doing well, and thank you again.

    Bypass yesterday

Congrats and welcome. I am fairly certain I will have a RNY as I have a hiatal hernia that must be repaired. You are almost 2 months out from your bypass, right? How are you feeling? I’m hoping for 4/11 surgery date.

That thread was started by @MiniGastricBypassDude and he's in Europe somewhere. That thread is about his MGB surgery experience. My surgeon doesn't do MGB either. I think it's more popular outside of the US for whatever reason. I'm revising to Gastric Bypass soon.

Where was your surgery performed? I don't think my surgeon does the mini bypass or RYGB

    Where’s the weight loss??

IT ABSOLUTELY DOES NOT MATHEMATICALLY MAKE SENSE! I have only been in the July 2021 Gastric Sleeve Thread. I just happened to see this. I am 56, 55 at the time of surgery and my highest weight was 196. To be honest, it was 196 because I binged before the surgery knowing life would change. It's been 7 months now. I have lost 20 pounds. I'm thinking, "there is no way! I'm eating about an eighth of what I used to eat and all I've lost is 20 pounds!" First of all --this was a relief and proof to me that after all these years no amount of dieting or exercising was going to help if even gastric bypass can only give me a 20 pound loss! No, I'm not eating sweets. I've lost my appetite for anything sweet. I absolutely cannot drink anything carbonated, so I drink water and tea sweetened with stevia. I've had enough protein shakes to last me a lifetime. I can only eat about 4 or 5 bites at any meal. So what am I doing wrong? And get this.......the dr put me on Adipex! All I know is, I'm 16 pounds away from my goal. I have no idea if I will get there. The dr called year 1 the "honeymoon" and basically stated that if I'm going to lose, it will be done within year one. He said he doesn't usually see a loss in year two. So, I've got 5 months to lose 16 pounds. If you are thinking you are the only one with this issue --you are not.

I don't qualify for bypass. My bmi isn't high enough. I'm still on track for surgery. My nerves are still high but I'm going to go through with it.

    February 2019 weight loss buds

So good to hear about the success. Overall I am good, but I cannot say my diet is the healthiest. I find eating carbs to be way too easy to digest and my sedentary life style working home all day in front of a computer doesn't help. I am depressed that it seems way too easy to eat more food now, such as whole (store-bought) burrito in one sitting, or two pieces of pizza instead of just one, or a fairly large salad. My little egg-sized stomach has definitely stretched. 😞 I also starting drinking Diet Coke in the morning. For three years I didn't touch it, but recently I starting drinking the mini Cokes--only one in the morning--and was surprised there were no repercussions, so that is my indulgence when I start my work day. Unfortunately, the Girl Scout cookies also seem to be digesting all too well. I did undergo a panniculectomy and a breast reduction and feel so much better since I did that. The relentless neck pain from carrying the weight of the breasts and the back ache from the stomach skin pretty much disappeared. My arms and thighs are still scary large and saggy but I just don't think I have the bravery to do another plastic surgery. It was rough! One very upsetting side effect (other than I still have thinning hair) are that I have had four kidney stones since last May. Dr. Google confirmed that there is a correlation between gastric bypass and an increase in kidney stones. They are crippling, and from what I understand, an intake of animal protein is partly to blame. I absolutely need to consciously drink more water so would LOVE to hear y'all's tips and tricks for remembering to drink water!
  21. Hello All! Has anyone had any issues with Dr Verboonen at Obestity Goodbye in Tj Mexico? Also, do you all have any recommendations as far as sleeve or mini gastric bypass? And recovery time? Thank you! Mia
  22. I was the same way. I know people that have had both procedures done. I asked my dr after reading online that if you had any acid issues its recommended to get the bypass done. You will be less likely to have any acid issues. With the sleeve you will have more issues. Im nervous about getting the bypass but I know it'll be worth it. If only I could slow down eating... but practice makes perfect and I have time to practice. Sent from my SM-G965U using BariatricPal mobile app

    March 2022 Surgery Buddies

3.5 weeks post op revision to bypass for severe GERD, down 14 pounds, which I'm super thrilled about! In the past couple of days I've started to feel fairly normal physically. The biggest mind trip is getting full on 2 oz of deli meat. If I eat any more than that I feel miserable. No problems getting my fluids in. I went back to work last week and felt good but this week I can tell I'm back to full strength. I even started walking on the track at the adults only community center I joined (and health insurance pays for). The Y has a track too but it's always sooooo loud and busy. Allergy meds

the only things I was told to avoid were NSAIDs and extended release versions of meds (the latter isn't harmful - it's just that it doesn't stay in your stomach long enough to truly be "extended release", since our pyloric valve has been bypassed).
