April 2022 Surgery Buddies
Vixenvic1 replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, I had my mini gastric bypass (with omega loop) on the 12th April here in Dubai where I live (originally from the UK though). Stayed one night in hospital and was discharged yesterday. Wow!! The pain! I have 3 incisions, one of them my surgeon said I had weak core muscles and he had to stitch the muscle as he didn’t think they would knit back together naturally and that this would hurt for a while. My God! Every time I move it’s awful. Im also feeling so low! Anybody else in this stage? I really am right now full of regret due to the lack of sleep, the amount of pain and just lack of energy I have. I’ve been put on one week of clear liquids so yesterday I drank some chicken bone broth which I will have again today with my electrolytes, coconut water and water. -
Slow weight loss after Revision
liveaboard15 replied to Kimsmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Your first surgery was a band? then you revised it to what in 2017? and you just had bypass a few weeks ago? Are you sticking to the program? Following the diets and such? But you are just out of surgery and healing. Some people are slower than others and some loose a ton of weight quick. But as long as you stick to it and follow your programs diets and recommendation you will loose the weight. -
I am having a very slow weight loss. I had my first surgery 3/2000 and VBG revised in 2017. I gained 80 pounds and had a gastric bypass on 3/23/2022. Wondering if anyone else had these issues?

VSG to RNY - First time diagnosed with GERD. Two years post op!

Yea that is odd. I always thought gastric bypass eliminates it since the esophagus is no longer connected to the stomach where the acid is produced. -
Screwed up the PreOp diet today
fourmonthspreop replied to DJ Carmickle's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Lol I remember caving in one day in the middle of my pre op diet and ate half a bag of cheetos. Then I started spitting them out after chewing them because I NEEDED the taste in my mouth but felt so guilty swallowing it...turned out just fine! I got back on the diet and remembered why I was even doing it in the first place. Having a healthy distraction helps too and if you really need to chew on something have a sugar free popsicle or some ice. As long as you get back on the horse and keep your digestive system clean 2 days before surgery you're going to be fine. Remember it's also a lot easier to follow these crazy diets once you're bypassed/sleeved. Sent from my SM-G975U using BariatricPal mobile app -
Pureed diet need new ideas
I♡BypassedMyPhatAss♡ replied to Stephy2014's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
Refried beans is another option. I'd add a load of fire sauce and then some Greek yogurt on the side, in place of sour cream, since you can't have cheese. I have an unnatural love affair of all things hot and spicy. I hope I can still eat spicy stuffies after the bypass. -
Wind and stool problems post op
Mona Ometuruwa replied to Gym's topic in Gastric Bypass Surgery Forums
I had a mini bypass in February and have had the same problem. Loose stools and gas. I find my odours revolting, as does my family. I think it may be related to what I eat. Recently I ate some fatty food on my birthday and the next day, I had diarrhoea and could barely make it to the toilet. It's so gross, and I feel your pain. -
never. Without gastric bypass i would still be short of breath, headaches, blood pressure, etc. Very happy and i wish you all luck! Sent from my SM-G973U using BariatricPal mobile app

Large Hiatal hernia: Bypass or Sleeve
Mariann812 replied to Mariann812's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Thank you. Your reply is quite helpful. Because of the possibility of GERD with the sleeve, I am leaning towards the bypass. I will ask my surgeon about the procedure you mentioned. thanks again! -

RNY GB to DS Revision
Guest replied to cjwilson80's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
So...it's about how much of the intestines are bypassed. Also the DS pouch is essentially a sleeve because it's pyloric valve sparing. Read more here https://www.dsfacts.com/comparison-of-ds-and-rny/ -
Large Hiatal hernia: Bypass or Sleeve
Smanky replied to Mariann812's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had a Mini Bypass (a quicker surgery than the typical RNY), and had my large hiatal hernia repaired at the same time. It was a surprise to both my surgeon and I, as I was never aware I had a hernia. He didn't tell me how much of my stomach was in my chest, but he called it a "large hiatal hernia" and guessed I'd had it for at least a decade. If your surgeon offers the Mini Bypass/Omega Loop, give it a look. I had pre-existing GERD, so a sleeve was too great a risk of having even worse reflux post-surgery. With the bypass, my GERD is gone. -
RNY GB to DS Revision
Guest replied to cjwilson80's topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)
With both you get a small stomach pouch. With DS it's essentially a much more radical bypass. RNY has a very small malabsorption component. DS is much larger. It's the most powerful procedure available that statistically leads to the greatest percentage of excess weigh loss. -

Hi! I'm also getting a hiatus hernia repair and gastric bypass at the same time, I've had my hernia for several years and I've not had that pain as you described rather I've had a lot of acid reflux if I had anything to eat a couple of hours before bedtime, even water! and it will rush up with acid burning my oesophagus so badly, I would be sitting up all night, awake! As soon as my inner organs whent into sleep mode the acid would rush up its teribble! I only take small sips of water when I go to bed to avoid the acid reflux trigger, hopefully with this surgery that'll all go away, my surgery is due on the 27th of April, scared but excited and enthusiastic at the same time [emoji4] well hopefully most of my problems will have gone when I lose the weight [emoji1696][emoji1696][emoji120][emoji120][emoji120] Sent from my SM-N981B using BariatricPal mobile app

April 2022 Surgery Buddies
Tina 2.0 replied to Crinkles's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
We had similar restrictions in California. I think pre op was the hardest! I had my bypass 4-5-22. The waiting alone..Then you wake up, the nurses control any pain or nausea and you are off to your room where you can wash up, make calls, and wiggle your toes. I was a lil groggy, but really happy. I could not wait to lift my gown and see proof my dream was real! I started walking that night. Before I left the next day I had walked just a tip over a mile doing laps around the floor. I felt like a 🌟! Some laps were 1 time others up to 4. Wishing you all of the best!! -
WLS and MS (getting the sleeve)
SleeveToBypass2023 replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
As far as the Celebrex goes, nobody has said anything about it. But I think I'll call my surgeon tomorrow and ask. My neuro is a big advocate for smoking weed for MS pain (I live in Colorado...what a shocker lol) or giving narcotic pain relief, but I refused both (not my jam at all) so he gave me Celebrex for the inflammation, which takes the edge off and keeps it manageable. I don't think he wants me to be off it because he doesn't want me to have absolutely nothing for pain since I still have quite a bit most days. My surgeon didn't say anything when we went over my meds, but maybe that's because it's a sleeve and not bypass??? I'll call tomorrow. Thanks for mentioning it!! -

Large Hiatal hernia: Bypass or Sleeve
Mariann812 posted a topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hi, all: I’ve been in the April 2022 Surgery Board, but I have a question for here. My surgery will likely be in the coming 4-6 weeks. I had planned on the sleeve, but testing shows a very large hiatal hernia…more than half my stomach is in my chest. 😳 I do know that is not that uncommon. Anyway, has anyone here had the sleeve procedure at the same time as having a large hernia repaired? I’d prefer the sleeve because of the shorter surgery duration. But, I want to do what is the best medical decision. I have to articulate a preference to my surgeon before we meet in a week or so. Thanks in advance for any information. -
What's Your Food Nemesis?
fourmonthspreop replied to Crisscat's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Doritos and potato chips omg I could eat a whole family size bag before my surgery. My dietician and therapist want me to incorporate protein chips in small amounts so I am working on having a neutral relationship to chips. So far so good. I feel for the first time in my life theyre just chips, who cares? Have had no urge to overeat on them. I'm also so thankful I've never been into sugar because I haven't had real sugar since January. My dietician said I could try it on special occasions in small amounts but im afraid of dumping. Haven't experienced that yet and really don't want to. I had my bypass on Feb 14th. Sleeve with high BMI
Queen ApisM replied to SleeveToBypass2023's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I got the sleeve, and to get where I fantasize about being (top of healthy BMI range), I'll have to lose 225 lbs. That is a crazy large number, and I have debated whether bypass or another surgery might have been a better choice. But, I remember what one surgeon I consulted with told me early on: "It's a tool. It doesn't do the work for you" and that helps me a lot. He reminded me that plenty of people are really successful with both surgeries, and that many people also fail with both surgeries. They are not magic bullets. Moreover, you have to be comfortable with the physical change you are making to your body. Initially, I wanted sleeve but let everything I read convince me that was a bad choice to maximize weight loss. I was going to do bypass, but I was never happy with that decision. The surgeon above really forced me to rethink why I was going the bypass route and once I thought about it, I knew sleeve was right for me so long as my endoscopy didn't preclude it. After I made that switch, I was just so at peace with my decision (at least until the pre-surgery jitters came up right before surgery!) I also realize I may not get to where I would like to get to, and that is also okay. I have an "ultimate goal" in mind, but I've also set some interim goals that would result in much improved health outcomes, and will be moments for me to reassess where I am and whether I want to try and keep going. I also don't want to be constantly fighting to maintain a certain weight, if another weight still provides health and appearance benefits without that constant battle I may decide to stay there. Basically, I want to find a weight where I can be at peace with my body while also taking better care of it. -
Regrets...anyone?
Lynnlovesthebeach replied to 18kDays's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 1/2 yrs post gastric bypass. Lost more than I ever dreamed I'd lose. I'm maintaining at 105 lbs. I wear a size 2P. I've had 5 surgeries in the last 3 1/2 yrs-gastric bypass, hip replacement and 3 plastic surgeries for skin removal. No complications. I'd do it all again today! Absolutely no regrets! -
