  1. I also made cookies this morning! Was supposed to be basic chocolate chip cookies, but didn’t have enough semi-sweet chips, so made up the missing volume with toasted almonds, dark chocolate chunks and white chocolate chips. Baked 11 right away and froze the rest of the batter for another time. I haven’t had any yet, but when I do, i’ll be logging 217 calories for one (crossing fingers that there will any left to eat by the time i feel like eating one!) P.S. the white stuff on top is flaked sea salt.
  2. A bunch of stuff from the fridge in a bowl (thai spring roll, beets, almonds, cheese, pate, tomatoes & kimchi): 283 calories Ate almost 1/2 of it…the rest is for later.
  3. I’m sure lots of peeps will chime in with their experiences, but pls remember it does not mean that is how your experience will play out! Insert standard mantra here: “We are all different “. With that said: At my one year mark, i could not eat a “normal” person’s amount if food in volume. (I still can’t, even at 3.5 years out). But…i could (and can) eat a “normal” person’s amount of food in calories. Not a big eaters amount of calories, but like a normal, healthy-weighted woman who doesn’t really diet but is aware of what she eats amount of calories. In terms of speed, i was super duper crazy slow in the first year or so and sped up a little as time went by. Im still slower than everyone around me, but i eat much less than them, so it kinda evens out…sometimes.
  4. One piece of a Thai Veggie-Tofu cold spring roll leftover from the fams dinner last night. 132 calories (of which 1/2 the cals are from the dipping sauce 🙄) Ate it all. Will likely eat something else soon as i’ll probably be hungry again in an hour.

    November Surgery Buddies!!!

Have you tried a Crystal Light or one of the other flavor enhancers? Sometimes I struggle to down plain water, but I'm able to drink these more easily. I also up the water with the protein shakes. I blend the protein shakes with ice, and that makes another 20oz (and makes the shakes less sweet). Awesome results all around. How many calories are you all eating at this time? Meals per day? I haven't found my groove yet.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I've been on a 1000 calorie diet for a week now and I am amazed that I haven't felt all that deprived. Tomorrow, I start the all liquid diet, still at 1000 calories per day. I am thankful it is only for 3 days for me. Took my COVID test yesterday. Taco Bell commercials get me every time but I remind myself the food is never as good as it looks in their ads. Lol. Helps a little!
  7. That’s the frustrating thing for me: I’m not eating crap. Still keeping to my same food options. No sweet snacks, no fast food, no takeaway, no carbonated drinks, etc. sneaking into my diet. Don’t have it in my house. Don’t buy it when I’m out. Upped my fluid intake (was getting in a good 1.5L now almost 2 L). Upped my activity a bit (not as much as you have @GradyCat). Cut back on a few small things - less salad dressing & bought diet, alternating low fat milk with full cream, etc. The increased protein has meant increased portion sizes & calories but the cuts & changes to my diet aren’t equaling the increases yet. I just hope the Creons I’ve been prescribed again work better this time & help me absorb more from what I eat so I can reduce my intake a bit. Grrr! Gotta try to work out my new balance of consuming & using.

    Best sugar free treats?

I just tried something new. It’s called frozen yogurt bark and their are tons of recipes out there but you basically just use Greek yogurt and place in a parchment lined baking sheet and freeze. The only difference is the flavor of yogurt and the toppings. I am not a huge fan of Greek yogurt but with the toppings (sugar feee chocolate chips and pecans) it was still good. I made them In ice cube trays because I wanted to know if I bought an Easter mold if I could make them for the kids in fun shapes. I think it will work but It’s taking alot longer to freeze than I thought. I am going to try it with regular yogurt next. Not as much protein but still sugar free and low calorie and I like the taste a lot better. Anyways, Google it if you are interested.
  9. First meal of the day. Longanisa and pickled cucumbers: 353 calories (ate it all). P.S. Longanisa is like a a sweet chorizo.

    Any April 2021 surgeries?!

Hi there, I am 1 year out 4/15 Physically I am doing great all the meds gone walking 1-2 miles a day. Bad thing is I am still 12 pounds away from my goal and no matter what I do I can't get past this. I talked to my surgeon he said cut back on more calories but still hasn't helped. Any suggestions welcome. Thanks
  11. I am currently just over a year out from sleeve surgery. My goal was 160 but the lowest I got was 169. I was beginning to accept that weight but now it has been creeping up ever since and this morning I was 179. I have still been eating good, but more. Around 1200-1400 calories a day. I thought that would be okay… that would at least maintain the 169 but I’m starting to realize that I need to keep the calories even lower. Probably because I am not very active. Idk what I am looking for in terms of a response. I think I am just putting this out there to hold myself accountable. I hadn’t even updated my profile to reflect the gain because I am so ashamed. I have got to stop snacking between meals I know it but it’s so hard with the hunger back. Did anyone else start gaining back this early out. Could it be because I was lower BMI to start and 169 really was my set point and this is the 10 pound bounce back? I guess I could be happy at this weight, but not any heavier, i am just really hoping that I don’t gain anymore.

    7 weeks post op

Hello! Congratulations on your fat loss. I'm 9 weeks out and a little hungry right now. That's ok. Nothing to worry about. If you're eating fewer calories than you're burning, which is almost certainly the cash, you're losing fat every second of the day. Don't worry about the scale - you want to lose fat, not weight, and the scale doesn't measure that.
  13. Ive turned into the leftovers-eater. The fam is adverse to leftovers and i hate waste, so…. Theres always something to eat, but not always of the healthy-persuasion. But i count calories and try to make sure im within range, so its all good.
  14. They are averages and unfortunately like the rny, band, vsg... Etc. stalls are common for all of us. It depends on so many factors, like some people are not committed and will live on slider foods and their are others who follow their plan, and some in between who are able to find a good balance. From my understanding, it is your starting weight from your most recent surgery that you go by for calculations (not your sleeve surgery). For me, since my revision to RNY (for gerd) in 8/21, it's been faster weight loss. I weigh less than at my lowest with the sleeve and am still losing despite hitting initial goal awhile ago. I find logging my calories, carbs and protein extremely helpful to look for patterns to adjust, to help awareness, especially during emotionally difficult times.

    April 2022 Surgery Buddies

I'm on day 11 of my 2 week liquid diet. The first week was the absolute worst. After the second week or so, it started to get easier. I think my body started to get accustomed to having less calories. The trick for me has been to have something to eat (drink) regularly throughout the day, like every hour or two. When it gets really hard I've been relying on the sugar free ice pops. They give me a little bit of sweet and I really enjoy them. In the evenings I've been making broth out of half a cube of bullion (only half since there is so much salt in those) A huge helper has been the Gatorade Zero. That is enjoyable and does a good job of making me feel full. I haven't cheated because I don't want to ruin the progress I've made so far. It would probably be like starting all over. I've lost 12 pounds since I started so far and I still have another 3-4 days. My surgery is on Monday. Almost there now. You can do it, stay strong and when you are feeling hungry, don't ignore it. Have the next item you are allowed for the day.
  16. I had a VSG in September. I was permitted to have raw vegetables at three months, along with carbs. I haven’t had any issues with veggies but it does seem like the few times I’ve had “conventional carbs” like a piece of bread or a little pasta it hasn’t agreed with me so I avoid them (I make “sandwiches” with low carb or cauliflower tortillas, or on lettuce, when I want something like that.) Alcohol they told me to wait at least six months, preferably a year…I’ve had alcohol twice, and while I havent gotten ill or anything it is a lot of empty calories and I can’t have club soda, tonic water, diet soda as mixers or something like beer or White Claw because of the bubbles. Be warned; the first time you drink after that long and after losing six months worth of weight, it’s going to hit you much harder. Be careful.

    Too much protein

That’s weird. I just had my 6 week follow up with my dietician and she said min protein is 60g, but she said 90-100g was great. Maybe it’s because I’m also recovering from ACL replacement, but when I said I could get another 20-30 grams in with an extra protein shake a day, she seemed excited. Maybe ask your doctor and see if he/she has an opinion on protein intake and WLS specifically. Or maybe it’s a calories thing. Protein is great but also has calories.
  18. BFF just came by to drop off these things, omg. While I wanted to take a bite of each one, I managed to hold myself to 1/8 of the Kit Kat Matcha one (bottom right) and 1/8 of Strawberry Basil one (bottom left ). Im guessing (and logging) 100 calories for the equivalent of 1/4 a donut 🤷🏻‍♀️ If there is any leftover later tonight, i got my eye on the Peanut Butter Espresso one (middle right)…!! 😳
  19. Today’s salad, technically without actual salad (we’re out of lettuces AND cabbage!) All the good stuff: cucumbers, beets, cheese, chicken, bacon, tomatoes, Brussel sprouts and and some chicken liver pate. #yum 325 calories Ate almost all of it. As is almost always the case, someone was sitting with me and ate some. Im guessing i got to eat about 80-85% of it?

    liquid diet :( lol

Well, there are plenty of those SAME things out there. Mine told me Premier. 5 a day, and surprise....it was pretty do-able, (if that's a word, lol) I can't say I LIKED it, but I wasn't starving! I also went to Sam's and Walmart, and IMHO if it has the same (Or more) protein, the same or less calories/sugar, why does it matter which one you drink? Just make sure it fills the requirements your doctor says. Equate sold at Walmart is another.

    Too much protein

I've also heard it can be hard on your kidneys, but 100 grams doesn't seem that excessive to me - high, but not enough to do damage. But then, what do I know? I'm not a dietitian, so.... I agree with Arabesque that eating that much when we're taking in so few calories overall can be keeping you from eating a balanced diet, though.
  22. No bread, pasta rice & still don’t - they doesn’t sit well. Started cooked vegetables from soft foods so week 5. Raw salad vegetables from about the 2 month mark (I rolled cucumber wedges in smoked salmon & a smear of cream cheese.) I could have fruit from around month 2 too - strawberries & watermelons were my go to. I wasn’t told no alcohol just to reduce &/or avoid for a while. I had a gin & tonic at about two months. Took me hours to drink it & didn’t really enjoy it that much thanks to changing tastebuds. I probably had a couple of drinks over the 6 months until goal. I still don’t drink much or often. Maybe once a month or less & often just a glass & take a while to drink it. It doesn’t interest me like it did before surgery. If I drink now I go for quality over quantity. I was told the no bread, pasta etc. was because they are empty calories & they swell & fill your tummy restricting your ability to eat the protein & other nutrients you need. Raw vegetables & fruit skins can be too hard & dry & cause discomfort upon eating to begin. The no alcohol was empty calories & the whole addiction issue (can’t turn to food so turn to alcohol). I saw a video recently where the surgeon said alcoholism or issues with alcohol affect 10% of bariatric patients. 😱.

    Too much protein

There’s information about that says the body can only process & use about 25g of protein at a time. Apparently the remainder is stored as fat or excreted. Besides putting strain on your kidneys, it can increase your cholesterol which leads to other health concerns too. Protein is still calories. Your diet should be balanced out with other nutrients sources which support the body’s ability to absorb what is needed from what you eat. Drop a shake. Get your protein from a wide variety of foods - animal proteins (meat, eggs, dairy) & plants (beans, legumes, etc.). Up your vegetables intake & add a little fruit. (I didn’t have a shake after liquids stage.) Congrats on doing well so far. Whoo hoo!!
  24. I am 4.5 months post sleeve and I eat salad all the time. Have done for several weeks without a problem. I have also drunk alcohol from about 6 weeks post op, again no issue with that other than that I need to count calories very carefully at the weekend when I imbibe. I live in Ireland and it's really hard to do anything social without having alcohol so I needed to incorporate that into my diet pretty early. I understand that lots of people won't want or need to. Horses for courses!
  25. I'm 20 months out and I haven't had alcohol since my surgery. I didn't drink much before my surgery, either. I've always been a lightweight with alcohol (ironic, when I was 340 pounds), and I've read that alcohol has a stronger effect on bariatric patients, so I'm afraid to try even a single glass of wine now. I don't remember how long after my surgery I waited to eat salad, but I eat salad and raw veggies all the time now. A big plate of carrots, celery, cucumber, cherry tomatoes, and peppers is my main snack every day. I think salad is a slider food for me because I can eat a rather large salad, no problem (I love Skinny Girl and Walden Farms dressings because I can be generous without adding a lot of calories). I don't eat bread; I've heard that a lot of bariatric patients have problems digesting it. I've tried a bite or two without issue, but I don't feel like it's worth pushing my luck.
