Newly banded and new to this forum
TxRachel replied to TxRachel's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Yes, I'm still on the liquid diet (for 10 days post surgery, which will be this Sunday). I'm allowed clear liquids, protein shakes, nonfat yogurt and sugar free pudding. My calorie intake has been between 600-800 per day on the liquids... its not TOO bad, but sometimes i feel like i could kill someone for a bite to chew on! -
Stop the protein shakes and eat food. Liquid calories do not keep you full nor is it healthy this long after surgery to still be using protein shakes. Start by having a real breakfast even if its greek yogurt and a real lunch and real dinner.
-
your dr. must have a different definition of liquids. yogurt was also a mushy/pureed food per my post op list. just to be sure, call the office to confirm that applesauce is ok.
-
Yogurt is listed under mushy on my post op list. Dr's are different so definitely double check w yours

Calories, Carbs, Fat, Protein, Oh My!
Jazzieperfections replied to happytobehere's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i stuck to the protein drinks and bars. I also ate weigh watcher meals a day while watching my calorie. I wrote down my calorie and how many protein in a day. i stared like a protein in the morning i still ate a yogurt as my snack. then lunch i would eat a half of a weight watcher meal. or a bake potato or noodles and cheese a infant plate full. or if i didn't eat food i would have another protein drink and a snack which was a yogurt or a sugar free jello cup. For dinner i would have corn, (two tablespoon), a green veg, a meat bake or broiled.the size of a cracker depending on if the meat was cut up very small and cooked in a cream or gravy or baked real soft. I would drink crystal light in my bottles of water, i don't really like water all day long, but i woul try to get in 8 cups. which i brought the small bottles of water. -
Hello, Lots of Concerns, This is a long one
deedee replied to Mary :)'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Maddie, I think you are making a good decision to have surgery. I turned 30 a few months ago and am so excited to do things in this decade that I was unable to do in my 20's. As for my experience with your concerns (remember everyone's different)... 1) Lactose Intolerance, does this happen to everyone? If it should happen, does it go away or am I stuck with it? I've had this issue for my entire life, I still eat yogurt, but some cheeses and dairy products will get to me, it's just always been a part of my life, so I guess I don't find it that bad...sorry no answer to your question, my surgeon said it might happen for some and not others. 2) The hair loss ?...I'm expecting it to happen but my hair is the only thing I get compliments on. Will it grow back? Will it be like it used to be? You'll see, you will get so many more compliments on other things when you start getting healthier. My hair loss started around 2 months post-op and started to slow down around 4.5 months post-op. I'm still losing more than normal and do not notice new growth, but it's still pretty thick. 3) Bowel issues...as a child I had lots of bowel issues and I can still remember the horrible experiences. Will constipation always be a problem after VSG? Honestly is has been a problem for me since I've had my surgery. I always was a very regular person (2-4 bm's per day), so this was something that I've had to work on. Now, 5.5 months out, I usually can go every other day and I know foods (spinach, applesauce, even pita chips) that can help me go...sometimes I will start cramping really bad and then realize it has been a couple/few days and try to up my Water and add in the Fiber...it usually helps. 4) Alcohol...I do enjoy a drink now and then. Will I be able to enjoy a glass of wine or a vodka drink? I would not attempt this until way further out. I gave up drinking a couple years ago when my husband and I started to try for a baby, now I'd rather use calories for other splurges (a couple of french fries or bites of ice cream), but I've read of many other wls patients who have had no problems with this. Good luck on your journey! It has been such a great thing for me and I think you will be so pleased with it as well. -
I agree that Zumba is fun and it's an added bonus that it's exercise! I like Dannon (Oikos) Greek yogurt. LOVE the Key Lime Pie flavor. The yogurt has 11 g protein, so that's a good way to start the day. I don't eat it until I have been at work for an hour or so. I just don't eat breakfast as soon as I get up, but I often have an Atkin's protein drink on my drive to work. (Cafe' Caramel) is my fave. I don't drink coffee but It's like my coffee in the morning, on my way to work. (actually made with coffee) and it's giving me 15g protein right there. I sometimes boil eggs earlier in the week so that I have several days worth, to take for breakfast. I usually make it into an egg salad. Easier to eat that way. Sometimes scrambled with a little bacon bits and low fat/fat free cheese. sometimes i put in minced celery to add a few veggies early on.

JUNE 2013 Sleevers?
light_lady replied to Alimac-2007's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on June 14th and have lost 35lbs, so far! I drink Water or zero carb Isopure, coconut flavor, pretty much constantly. Chobani and Yoplait Greek yogurt, Lucerne Protein plus milk w/ unjury chocolate Protein powder, and split pea Soup make up most of what I consume every day.... Occasionally I'll have a poached egg or some salmon sashimi, but my diet is still pretty basic. I walk 1- 1.5 hours everyday, with 3 lb ankle weights on both legs, and and am doing some light strength training 3-4 times a week. If I'm watching TV or working on the computer, I sit on my stability ball to try and strengthen my loosey goosey stomach muscles..... -
what did u eat on solid food phase, b4 ur 1st fill
juliansmom2003 replied to natismi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Red meat is usually higher in fat. Some people have issues with bread, Pasta and rice, but those things expand oce they go down. I did egg beaters, low fat cheese sticks, canned chicken breast w/ lowfat mayo, baked chicken, green Beans, fat free yogurt, oatmeal, Cereal and hard boiled eggs. I do Breakfast, lunch, snack dinner. Breakfast and lunch are usually 3 to 4 hours apart. Hope this helps! -
Try the following, but be warned that for the first two months lots of stuff you'll like later will still taste like a$$. Chike (from Chike Nutrition) whey Gourmet chocolate and PB Protein Hot Chocolate from Nashua Nutrition or Healthwise or HealthSmart Max Protein (some GNCs carry it, but not mine) FAGE Total 0% Fat greek yogurt (needs sweetener) Syntrax nectar (various fruit flavors)
-
I bought some greek yogurt - bearded opened it one day, took a bite and threw it away - said it was the nastiest stuff he'd ever tasted (it was blueberry flavor I believe) -- so I still have never tasted it! It wasn't FAGE Greek yogurt, but it was greek yogurt - does it make a difference??

First, don't get the ones with fruit in them. They are full of SUGAR. Second, natural, unsweetened greek yogurt tastes a lot like sour cream. So most people don't like it plain. I add artificial sweetener to them and sometimes my own fruit (which is not full of sugar like the stuff they add in the factory). What I like about it is that it's very rich and creamy compared to something like Yoplait lite. If it tastes bad after you add the sweetener, just add more.

My doc told me to open the capsule and mix it with yogurt or pudding to take it.
-
I took my capsules with yogurt, cottage cheese or some other food to help lubricate it enough to go through. Most of the time, this was never a problem. I did become overfilled once, to the point I had to open capsules to take them. Someone else has mentioned allowing capsules to dissolve a bit in water, before trying to take them.

Also try Yoplait 100 greek yogurts. They have less sugar and more protein.

Questions about water and protein shakes.
Ruby Woo replied to Tssiemer1's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Protein intake does not count as water/hydration intake. You must take in atleast 60-70 grams of protein per day, and also a minimum of 64 oz of water. Broth, and sugar free Popsicles are considered hydration. Yogurt and protein shakes are absolutely not considered fluid intake. I know it's hard but you must sip both protein shake and water all day. Also FYI and fore anyone else who doesnt know the Isopure flavored liquid protein doesn't count as hydration. Isopure is liquidy but is 100% pure protein and has no water in it. -
Creamy low fat soups, yogurt, cottage cheese, low fat mashed potatoes etc. were my puree statge friends

carbs.. when are they allowed?
dupexi replied to dacosta.juli's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm 3 weeks out on Thursday, I've been mainly still on protein shakes and broth, but I've added some cottage cheese successfully. Tried a soft egg, no dice. Thinking about trying some yogurt. -
I would review your doctor's instructions. Yes I know everybody says that. The reason why I want to stress that is that every doctor is different in what they consider mushies. My first week of mushies was only yogurt, cottage cheese ricotta. That's a far cry from anything that you can put in the blender. Remember just because it mushed in a blender doesn't mean it's the right weight. And when you eat something it's going to go into the small stomach and pull on the stitches there from the band until it passes through into the big stomach.

I still use 1 Protein shake a day, but I eat egg whites, tilipia, chicken, greek yogurt, etc. I walk but I'm not really pushing myself yet. I need to up the intensity some but I'm enjoying it the way it is now.

When I am losing weight, I have to go to the bathroom all the time. Especially at night -- I was up every hour! Could that be an issue? I also found that if I had some Protein before I went to bed I slept better. Dairy also helps you sleep (that's the reason for warm milk before bed). So I have a 4 oz cup of Greek yogurt before I go to bed. It gives me dairy, protein and is not hard to digest so my tummy is not working all night, like it would be if I ate something like carbs. I am 5 months post op (tomorrow as a matter of fact) and I now sleep like a dead person because of the copious amounts of exercise. But I still have my Greek yogurt at night. It's my nightly treat.

What you eat on an average day?
bindi2203 replied to AngelWithHorns's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi i am almost 6 months out now. I eat i guess pretty much normal foods. like i did before, just not the same amounts. i pretty well now just eat off a bread and butter plate, and i find most times that satisfys me. For Breakfast i eat things like rolled oats, or poached egg on toast. or it could be friut and yogurt, what ever i feel like. lunch is usually a salad of some discription, and at the moment i am really into ones made with this really nice and easy low fat dressing, It is basically. 1/4 c white vinegar 1/4 cup of equall sugar ( not packed tight) or splenda a few drops of sesame seed oil, no more than 1 tsp total 1/4 c Water 2 tbs soy sauce. pinch of salt and that is it. put it into a shaker, and shake it very well. I also add some small diced fresh chilli, and i love a bit of bite, I tend to chop the vegies very small into it, as though making a salsa. some of the things i add are as follows, just to give you some ideas. 2x fresh truss tomatoes 1/2 avacardo 1/4 spanish onion finely diced 1/2 cobb of fresh corn I shave them off the cobb with a sharp knife. bunch of asian salad greens, or lettuce what ever you like, also chopped good handful of fresh coriander leaves, chopped. 1/4 red capsicum 1/4 green capsicum or yellow what every i have on hand 3-4 button mushrooms 1/2 lebanese cucumber diced small i also add a good handfull of mixed sunflower and sesame seeds. just before adding the dressing. I find this goes really well with grilled fish or chicken. or some times i will have it just by itself with some cut up egg or shaved ham for the Protein. I hope you guys enjoy. also i make it up and there is always some left over for the next day. it tastes just as good as left overs. cheers. -
You could always add those sugar free syrups that are for coffee and the best ranch on greek plain yogurt with hidden valley ranch packet

I am 7 days post op. I have been enjoying yogurt since day three. I have had no problem with it at all. It is actually very enjoyable.
