    Protien bars?

Oh Yeah tastse like Oh Henry's - same company. Yummy & 15 g protein. I also love the Atkins ones too.
  2. I've also heard that dairy products can help you lose weight. But, I try to stay away from dairy as much as possible. The most I have per day is 16 oz. of skim milk with my protein powder.

    Weight Watchers post op?

My NUT told me that a lot of his patients that have kept the weight off long term did weight watchers about 2/3rds of the way to goal. He said he thought it was helpful because of the meetings, teaming up with friends and the weigh in's each week. The plan itself...the "meals" are still going to be too much for us. Our food choices will just be different than everyone else's because we need to eat really small meals and high Protein. I know the program too. Did it several times...very successful once, a long time ago. I just don't think I am to the point where I want to pay a weekly fee. I'm still paying for the surgery.....and will for another 2 yrs, more than likely. And I pay Planet Fitness each month too. A lot of my "me" money is already going out the door for this. But.....if I ever get to the point where I feel I'm getting off track, I will definitely revisit WW's. Also, I am at a weird point. Lots of stalls. Its discouraging. I am still well within the guidelines of the diet but I have noticed that I tend to eat a little more carbs than I did in the beginning. So....that's going to stop. I have gained 1lb since starting weight training last week (have only been doing cardio up till now) I'm hoping the weight training will help with this stall, lose, stall, lose cycle I've been in. Maybe after I put on a little muscle I can dip back into the carbs??

    2week liquid diet starts today

I dreaded mine so very much. Freaking dreaded it. When it came time, it wasn't horrible like I thought. I could have five protein shakes a day and I was fine. The hardest part was the head hunger. I just wanted something to eat for the sake of eating. I never was starving. If I felt hungry I had a sugar free popsicle. You will do well!!!

    Overwhelmed

I have been looking on craigslist. I pout because a month before I even though gastric bypass was an option I gave away my elliptical because my PCP told me to stop using it due to knee pain. I could kick myself for that. I have kids & the gyms around here that have childcare are $30-40 a month just for the membership. They also close around lunch time till 4pm. I'm trying to be creative.
  6. Hi everyone. I have posted once, but been a reader for about a month when I started this journey seriously. My surgery (VSG) is scheduled for Wednesday, the 21st here in Austin, Tx. You all have helped me get to this point, reading of your own personal journeys and reading the support you provide to one another. Such an awesome group! Per my surgeon, I will spend one night in the hospital. My surgery is scheduled for 10:30. I have never had surgery so this is a new experience for me. Surgeon has me on a two week pre-op diet of a minimum of 70 grams of protein and no more than 30 grams of carbs daily. The carbs have been the roughest. I have been close most days, but been more at 40 rather than the 30. Any doubts I'm having feel like anxiety rather than legitimate questioning of whether this is the right thing to do. For the first time in my life, I feel like I am doing something just for me. Wish me luck and please add me to your prayers. I'll let you know how it goes....Diane
  7. You just want to make better food choices. Protein and Water are key. You drank 6 oz of apple juice. That's pretty much pure sugar. It may count towards your Fluid goals, but it's not going to hlep with your protein. When we don't meet out protin goals our bodies start taking it from other sources. This is when we start to lose hair excessively. For most of us it's hard to eat solid foods. Our healing tummies can't handle things like shrimp. What source of dietary recommendation dod you nutritionist give you?
  8. It really depends on your insurance, they each have their own requirements. You can contact your insurance company or consult your member handbook for info. But yes, the typical requirement is usually a BMI of 35 with a comorbidity or two, or a BMI of 40 without comorbidities. If you need a BMI of 35 and don't have a requirement of something like "a 2 year weight history showing a history of a BMI of over 35" and you believe you would qualify at a 35 BMI, well, most of us know how to eat to gain enough weight to go up a couple of BMI points. Certainly don't do that unless you are sure you have coverage and will qualify though! You also have self-pay options. Most surgeons will not require a BMI of 35. It can be pretty expensive in the states but there are lots of great surgeons in Mexico with reasonable prices. Good luck!

XP: Successful Bandsters Past and Present

Thanks again to all who have posted. I believe I was falling back into a "diet" type mentality and fortunately caught myself. I know the band is for life; it's what I want. BUt after years of, uh, Brainwashing? LOL it's easy to revert to old habits that don't help. Even when the old habit is "dieting" and not "eating everything!" I'm going to set a task for myself ... eat normally, but less, and no snacks. I don't have any restriction yet but it will come, and now will be a good time for me to establish new habits, like small bites, chewing like a banshee, no liquids with meals, protein first, and so on. I am glad I caught myself before I got back into the diet/boredom rut. Your honesty has helped me immensely!
  10. I am a week short of 8 mths and some days i still feel tired abit kind of blah. Today is one of those days just feel tired, is anyone else this far out feel the same?? I eat between 1000-1200 calories, 40-60grms of Protein and between 50-64ozs of Water. I think its more cause its the weekend and i just dont follow my usual food and drink routine. During the week i am good on the weekend so so...

    Eating question

It depends a lot on what you eat. If you are eating mostly dense Protein, you will feel full quicker and stay full longer. When you eat "slider" foods, you will notice that you can eat much more. It takes a while to figure out how to tell when you have reached the point of being satisfied. Journaling what you eat can really help.

    Protein Shakes YUK!!

I LOVE that stuff. I mix it with Water, a scoop of Fiber, and ice in a magic bullet and it's delicious. I've only tried the banana, but I plan on trying the strawberry next. Also, GNC has a very generous return policy. If you don't like the Protein powder, they'll take it back and give you a full refund.

    Travel mushy food ideas needed!

I just had my surgery on April 14th.. Get some Adtkins protein drinks and carry them in a cooler.. Little individual microwave mash potatoes, grits, oatmeal, sugar free pudding and jello, sugar free popcicles.. You can try those Campbell soups that you drink..
  17. I made this Soup last night for my puree stage of post-banding. It was SOOO easy and sooo good. I calculated the nutrition facts so we have that as well for tracking. This recipe makes about 8 cups and you could totally cut the recipe in half if you don't want so much. I have a non-bandster roommate and I wanted lunch for this coming week. 4 cans of Bush Black Beans (regular flavor) 3tbsp olive oil (extra virgin) 2 medium onion, chopped 4 cups of Progresso Low Sodium Chicked broth 3 medium stalks of celery 4 cloves of garlic, minced 1 cup 2% lowfat milk 1 tsp cumin Salt, pepper, cayenne, tabasco to taste (if wanted) In saucepan sautee the onion, garlic and celery for about 5 minutes until soft. Add beans, broth, salt, pepper and cumin and let come to a boil. Once boiling turn down to simmer and let simmer partially covered for about 30 minutes. Let cool slightly and transfer small bits at a time to the blender and puree. Once all is pureed transfer back to pot and add the 1 cup of milk to make cream! Serve, refrigerate or freeze. Tip - I found it didn't need extra salt and I did add pepper and a small amount (1tsp) of Tapatio (it's like tabasco). It's sooo good! 8 servings at 1 cup Calories = 193.3 Fat = 5.125g Protein = 12.2g Let me know if you like it.
  18. I am 10 lbs from goal and I've been in a stall for the past almost 3 weeks. I've been bouncing around 170-172. 160 is my goal. I'm almost 10 months out. I log everything and get 100 grams of protein a day. I only eat good carbs and I watch everything. Now I do work out 4 times a week and my workouts are getting more intense. I do find I eat more now but it's all good stuff that I'm eating. What gives? Could I be done losing? I'm starting to freak out a little.

    Delivered's Journey

April 2, 2009 189.8 I am so happy that I am continuing to make progress toward my weight loss goals. I have walked every morning this week. I am also eating a lot less (thanks to my fourth fill). I have been trying to take in more protein and make fewer bad choices. I cannot eat as many slider foods as I could prior to this most recent fill. For an example, I could eat chips and salsa, but now I cannot! Yes, it's a good thing! I am going to work hard to lose at least 7 lbs this month!

Welcome to bandland! Yes, it is normal! Try eating some popcicles, jello, juice, protein drinks, or broth.

At the end of week two, 4:00pm ish I was starving!!!! I called my nutritionist... she recomended that I drink a 8oz glass of milk, slowly. Low Fat is prefered (actually she wants me to drink Fat Free Plus.) It has protein and stays in your stomach longer.. It helped me. Right after school I had my glass of milk and made it a much easier night! Good Luck! Do it, it's worth it!!!!
  22. I cant allay your fears about the problems continuing now that you've had an issue, I guess you can only be positive about the fact that the band is in position, and that's one major problem that hasnt occurred. As to success with not gaining whilst unfilled - well that is doable. I was unfilled for over 6 months and then took 3 months to get back to my normal level and I didnt gain weight. Well.... that's not strictly true, but I only regained weight that I lost - about 8 lb - I got way way too skinny from being absolutely ultra careful and exercising like a maniac whilst having chemo. I regained that weight, but I'm still 10lb lighter than when I got unfilled last year. I just continued with what I knew worked and whilst I definitely at more with no fill, I made sure that "more" was made up things like salads, fruit and wholegrain bread - all light, low calorie, no fat kinda foods, and kept my portions of Protein and fat foods at banded size. I lost significant weight doing that as whilst I'd had fill, I'd slipped into a slider food routine and was eating a lot of calorie dense foods like cookied, too much full fat yogurt, Soups which I didnt hesitate to add cream to, all that sort of thing. Once I cut that out and replaced with salads, fruit and bread, I said bye bye to about 20lb remarkably quickly - and I was at a BMI of 22 to begin with! My routine is generally an hour of hard cardio about five days a week and about three strenght sessions (sand bag circuit training or Body Pump classes using pretty heavy weights). Chemo/radiation and a big surgery in which I was given an ileostomy helped to keep that weight down, but a lot of it was my hard work. It can be done! And at the very least, its much better to only gain a little than a lot. Dont just give up whatever you do.
  23. I was banded 7/15 - 4 days ago. I have no appetite at all and feel stuffed all the time. I am having 3 protein drinks a day as required, after the drinks all I want to do is burp. Is this normal???

    Omg i gained ten pounds

Hang in there Wozzicat! By reaching out, you clearly are holding yourself accountable! Good for you!! Personally, I started drinking Protein shakes / protein Soup ahead of my pre-op for two meals a day so it wouldn't be such a shock when I switched to all liquids. Honk raises a good point re: start eating like a Bandster... Certainly helpful as its something you have to 1) get used to (I'm guessing it's. different than the way you eat now) and 2) practice! This doesn't come with a magic cookbook! I wish you the best!

    Post-Op Costs?

They are expensive, but shop around. I still have to buy regular food for my family of 6 & add supplements too that, sometimes feels like a ton. But the money I save not eating out all of the time has to be greater than what I'm spending. I buy protein shakes at Costco now & look for coupons & sales on vitamins. Good luck!
