August 6th, 2008 Surgery Date????
fleminld replied to cutiew/booty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Finished my first nutrionist phone appointment. goal for me in the next month before surgery is to maintain the weight loss i have done now. I was surprised that i will be able to continue doing weight watchers as my diet program before. Boy am I glad. I still hope to loose a couple more pounds. Two other goals we set are for me to cut back even more on my coffee. This will be really really hard, have already given up my espresso. Have I mentioned I work a graveyard shift.. And the the other goal was to get back into walking my dog at least 3 days a week. I have went lax on that past month and half with work issues and joint pains. -
August 6th, 2008 Surgery Date????
fleminld replied to cutiew/booty's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
try doing the 3 meal replacement shakes,2 fruits, and 2 lowfat frozen meals a day thing. It works. 10 pounds in 2 1/2 weeks isnt easy to loose. I am keeping my fingers crossed that I can loose another 5 before surgery. If only my chocolate/sweet craving would go away. -
worried about not being able to take certain meds long term
indecidedgirl posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
hi guys im 240 lbs at 5'2 have most of the comorbidities of being obese and im 16 days away from surgery and having many doubts i recently went to preop appointment and was told i would not be able to take any pills that contain iburofen or advils or motrin or aspirin for the rest of my life and it was emphasized and that scares me because i have chronic asthma and vertigo and i also get migranes that are really bad and tylenol does not work at all for me so what happens if you need this one pill that s going to save your life? i also have to take steroids and my doctor saids oh dont worry you will have a normal stomach just smaller but im afraid he is only in for the money he is getting from my insurance for this expensive surgery, i mean i know if i dont loose the weight i will be really sick and quality of life will be worst but at what price will i get healthy ? i know all surgeries have many risks and im willing to take those risks but its long term complications or problems that worry me so either way your not home free. well for those who have had the surgery any advice or feedback is highly appreciated -

sherrypep replied to abqann's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My BMI is 36 and I did a 3 month program. I did not loose much weight maybe 5 pounds. I have Type 2 Diabetes. My Dr. Submitted to Aetna on August 1st and I was approved by August 5. Good luck! -
Has anyone else had breakouts during weight loss? I have never had a problem with my skin and all of a sudden I am having breakouts like crazy. I haven't changed anything, so the only thing I can figure is that it is related to hormone fluctuations.

Port locations: You have some options
stratcat posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi, I just wanted to see who else has their port in places other than under their rib cage. Mine is about six inches down from the top of my shoulder. The PA said that he can access it easier and use a much smaller needle for fills. Also, he said that it seems to be a less used, more comfortable spot. So far it seems just fine. But I am going to ask next visit what will happen when I have my upcoming boob job. (hey -- if I loose the weight ==> i am getting myself a new, higher tighter set). BTW: My husband is thrilled with the weight loss so far. -
Anyone get to a NORMAL BMI with VSG?
BlackBerryJuice replied to losingitin2012's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It seems most people here who are close to a year out are at a normal BMI range. Of course, not everyone will get there, for a variety of reasons - 1) low metabolism - could be because of older age, not exercising, physiological reasons, medical problems 2) not using the sleeve to the best of its ability (eating too much junk/too much, period) 3) excess skin - if you used to be very big, you could easily end up with an extra 20+ lbs of skin, which would push you over into the overweight/obese category even if you don't have that much fat on you. Etc etc. -
Hi all! I haven't read many posts from this group yet. But I have to say how excited I am to be able to find others in my age range who have had this surgery! When I started looking into surgery it was disappointing not having any resources for info from anyone that wasnt 15-20 years older than I am. Not that it didn't help, but I look forward to meeting people who are at the same stages of life as I am. I am hopeful that after I start to loose some of my excess weight I will feel confident enough to get start dating :tt1:. Right now, the thought of it scares me.

Lap Band for a BMI of Less than 35?
honk replied to TexasLady1986's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
While you weigh a lot less then I ever did at your highest, I can relate to what you've said. At 13, 18, 30 I lost significant amounts of weight up to and including 100 pounds. I gained it back every time. I was super committed to watching my diet and lots of exercise. Problem was that I had to be so stringent it was not sustainable. In fact at 18 I was probably slightly anorexic. I also have a family whose female members were obese but who obsessed about my weight. The band will not make you thin. YOU will still need to exercise (I do an hour daily), and watch what you eat. But once you get to restriction it will help you eat less. Personally I don't keep my band so tight that I get complications that others get. I read on this board that people know they are too tight, can't eat 3 oz of solid Protein (so they drink Protein shakes for nutritian) but won't loosen the band. They are loosing weight quickly so they don't want to slow things down. This is the wrong mentality! If you keep your band at a good level your likelyhood of having problems (trouble getting food to go down) will be greatly reduced. Also keeping the band too tight can lead to having the band slip, which is a major complication. Do I wish I'd had lap band sugery 10 years ago at 30 and could have kept the weight off. Yes. -
Any tips on things we will need to have on hand
ihateproteinshakes replied to sassyfrass's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had my surgery yesterday I would say the following - loose clothing to go home in - flip flops to easily slip on - a pillow for the car ride home or something to put over your clothes while the car is in motion. - gas x mouth strips - diet snapple, chicken broth, auger free jello and protein shakes at home for the first 10 days. - I disagree about excersise besides slow walking around for 7 days - you want to make sure your band doesn't move its so sensitive in the beginning my doc doesn't even let u walk up stairs unless u take them one by one and very very slowly. - make sure you have someone at your beck and call they will be needed with all lifting and bending. - a 100% daily value chewable vitamin and a chewable or liquid calcium and vitamin d vitamin- my doc says take this everyday for rest of your life -
Ultrasound skin treatment
BeagleLover replied to Bbmomma4's topic in Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery
I saw a segment on TV, "The Doctors," about a laser to tighten the skin on the thighs. -
Well I finally did it, took me over 10 yrs to commit, but I decided on the Gastric sleeve last October and took the steps necessary to make the surgery a reality! I have had a slow start, because I had some complications found in surgery, but was taken care of during my sleeve surgery. I have lost 10 lbs so far and hope when I am cleared for exercise that I will loose a little more quickly ???? I started at 242 in October and the day of my surgery weighed 205. I am now 195 and very excited to be under 200???? I hope to find others that were sleeved around the same time and can't wait to share stories and get ideas from each other!! Hello, I'm new on here.....my name is Kathy....had my surgery on Sept 27th, 13. Was suppose to have the by-pass but the Dr. was unable to do it because I had too much scar tissue from a gallbladder surgery a long time ago. He worked for an hour to free my colon but said it was getting to much of a risk so he changed it to the sleeve. From all that he did, I retained a lot of Fluid for about 2 weeks....was sick most of that time. Had a C.T. done but all came back ok.... It has now been a little over 2 months since surgery and I still feel nauseated almost every time I eat and or drink...especially plain Water. I have tried all kinds of options but I still feel sick... I'm not getting many calories a day....just don't want to get sick to eat..... I'm not loosing a lot of pounds but I am loosing inches....but want both.... Would appreciate any help or ideas. Thank you, Kathy

Almost 3 Months Out--No Bra Size Change? Is That Weird?
Sassygirl06 replied to Sleeved&Hopeful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
if your boobs are more tissue then fat then this is normal. you wont lose tissue. I have the same thing going on. I was a 44 dd, and now after losing 118 I am a 38dd. I am soooo happy that the girls havent gone away, but I will still need a lift and I will probably add a little implant too once I get to goal cause when they take away the skin my boobs will definatly be smaller. I want to stay at least a d cup. I plan on getting a tummy tuck too I only have about another 35 pounds to lose before I get it because some of my weight i need to lose is extra skin in the tummy and boobs. I am really fortunate to be getting some back pay of $30,000+ that my job owes me here in a few months so I am hoping that I will be at goal by then so I can spend that money on my body! I have such a possitive outlook on life now knowing that I am so close to what I have desired for more then 16 years! Be happy your not losing your girls, there are so many women that say that those are the first to go for them. I know my doc told me mine was going to disapear...hehe lucky me he was wrong! sorry this is so long....just cant contain my joy!!! the sleeve is a beautiful thing! -
Well I'm pretty big starting out lol. I mean 393 at the beginning so I figured I would be losing like crazy but I'm kind of glad I'm losing slow because I'm scared of excess skin. I'm the type that wants instant gratification and this is something you have to have patience with and I'm trying to learn that :-)
-
Yeah I am frightened of excess skin too! I started at 250 pounds and last time i lost the weight i did it via exercise over 18mths and i didnt have excess skin but I am 5 yrs older now and am a little bit bigger so i am scared. Slowly wins the race, although I love seeing the scales go down and want that instant gratification too

Anyone else worried about excess skin?
ms.lady posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hello! I had not had my lapband yet. I hope to have it done in August. I was wondering if others who have been banded or is planning to be, worried about excess skin? I desperately want to loss this weight I have been carrying around for years, but I then think that I would be unhappy with myself all over again if I have excess skin. My emotions are just all over the place........I guess. -
So, I have a ways to go until I am banded (5 more months), but I wanted to start finding the essentials for the pre-op diet... I've seen posts about the Protein shakes and some great suggestions. What are some other things that I should start stocking up on to make sure I have everything planned and ready to go?? My surgeon requires 1 week of a high protein liquid diet, then Clear liquids for 1 day prior to surgery. Questions: Did you need any special meds, vits, or supplements? Since the Lap Band does not use malabsorption for weightloss, can I get all the nutrients I need from food alone or are supplements a necessity? How soon can you bathe and drive?? (I've seen conflicting times, I know it varies, but I want to see what the consensus is).. Can you see the port if you wear something form fitting or does this depend on a person's skin and muscle tissue? Thanks!!

Advice for Family Members
illgeturhairdid replied to illgeturhairdid's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It is very hard to see this happening with my mother. I did ask my surgeon and right now his opinion is she is too heavy to safely operate on, she would need to loose a lot of weight prior to him being comfortable operating on her. Not to say that another doctor wouldn't but I only had him to ask. I didn't mean to suggest that my family isn't or won't be supportive. I know they will be 100%, I guess I was more asking how to help them support me through this time from those who have been there done that. Good luck to you! -
26 Day Pre-OP?!?!?!
jennifer1 replied to pinknsassyemt's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
wow 26 days!!!! guess i shouldn't complain about my 2 weeks. it is to shrink your liver, but every surgeon has their own protocol. As far as loosing weight and them not doing the surgery Ive never heard of that. I've been on my pre-op liquid diet for 6 days and have lost 10lbs. i shared this with a friend today and she was like wow see you dont need the surgery! ARE YOU SERIOUS! I've had nuthin but liquids so of course i'm gonna lose weight, but there is no way i can live off liquids only. i just kindly reminded her that i cant live on liquids. therefore i dont think a surgeon would ever say you lost too much weight to have the surgery. Now my surgeon does have a zero pound clause, meaning if you weigh more than you did when you started your pre-op's they can decide not to do the surgery! YIKES! but if you follow the pre-op rules dont see how that could happen. Best wishes to you! -
Question Regarding Skin Bouncing Back After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
LoserMama replied to blackanese25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Kicking this back up, because I would like to hear about this too. I think a lot of it has to to do with nature -- what your skin resiliency is, and then how fast we lose weight, how much we have to lose, how much muscle we build, all comes into it, doesn't it? I'm expecting a lot of hanging skin, unfortunately -
Question Regarding Skin Bouncing Back After Gastric Sleeve Surgery
LilMissDiva Irene replied to blackanese25's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not necessarily, speaking from experience. I have what I think is a lot of stretch marks, but still my skin did really well. Hope I made your day! -
I use the compression garments when I exercise. It helps keep everything from bouncing too much. I worried about the extra skin, but I figured I would rather be baggy and alive than fat and dead. (High blood pressure, cholestrol, pre-diabetic, sleep apnea ...) I'll deal with the extra skin later. One thing at a time.

Hello. The last two fills i've had, my Dr. told me my band got really loose. He needed to add 2cc's. He wants to check me again in 3 weeks, to make sure nothing is wrong with my band. Has anyone experienced this??????
