  1. All my life,I've been constantly constipated. The sleeve really "streamlined" my gut ..Food in - food out ! I would suggest fiber powder . Always worked for me in the past.

    Is it just me or…

    Post op, this hit me hard. I considered it part of mourning food but it still concerned me even though I heard about it. Thankfully, it does go away over time as your body adjusts. Your body physically, and mentally are going through a lot and hits you all at once. Gradually you get used to the new way of seeing food, eating food and it does get easier. But man those first weeks are hard. I seriously missed the enjoyment of chewing food and eating the large quantities along with the glorious tastes This is part of the addiction and, as the mind resets, and you set new habits, it does diminish. I am five months out, and now see food as fuel. I still get enjoyment from the taste, but the restriction has now created a new habit of getting joy from a smaller amount. Before surgery I used to stuff myself each meal. Now I hit my restriction and find it easier to just stop and be happy. Hang in there, stick to your plan using your training from your program.

    I know what you mean! But once you're over the liquid diet hump, everything is a breeze! I'm almost done with the pureed stage and didn't feel nearly as excruciatingly long as the liquid, heck, I even stuck with liquids rather than pureed with added high protein yogurts and adding gel fruit cups. You'll get to shredded chicken in soft foods in no time!

    Constipation 😭😭

    I'm so sorry you are going through this but like others have said it will get better as you eat more. I used to take daily Fiber and bought protein shakes that had fiber in them to stay regular. Now all I use is a daily protein shake with fiber in order to reach my daily fiber goal since I'm getting more fiber from food.
  5. I cooked with mushrooms from soft - omelettes usually but also mince dishes & casseroles. I would think it would be a no to wings for some time. One of our biggest enemies is food that is too dry & coarse especially in the first months. It can sort of get stuck & cause the foamies. Chicken breast, even skinless, is a common culprit. So a wing which is traditionally drier would be worse & then frying it, even air frying would make it more dry & the crispy skin would be dry & coarse as well. Even in soft food, you food should be moist, tender & have some sort of gravies, sauces to help you chew & swallow the food. If you want chicken, try thigh (boned or deboned), baked or sautéed in a pan & flavour with any herbs or spices you usually enjoy with your wings. Thighs are more tender (& flavoursome). Of course check with your team. Plans can be different as we all know & then it depends upon what we can tolerate.

    It'll be over before you know it. The early weeks can be a challenge, but it's a drop in the ocean time wise. Just distract yourself with everything you can to get your head off food.
  7. For me, it was an easier recovery. No new food aversions. I didn't have any before with the sleeve either. My gerd is gone an that in itself made being able to stay on program much easier due to better sleep, no fake gnawing hunger signals due to excess acid... Etc. It was the best thing I've ever done. I've said this before on quite a few posts but I feel so normal now, like pre-WLS of any kind, and I still have restriction. At first, you will feel that your restriction is gone but it isn't, it's different than the sleeve. Also, like the sleeve, wait until you begin solids because the fluids will just go right through your system. I had a learning curve to determine when I was approaching fullness. With the sleeve it was a runny nose. With the revision, I can feel it more in my stomach. I still get the runny nose but that is far too late for me so I stop before that now. The signals are different. I have not dumped, and the only symptom I have is slight constipation so I take 1 tsp of MiraLAX in my coffee every morning. Some need more, some don't need it. My vitamins are the same, a multi-vitamin patch, and depending upon my blood tests (I take every 6 months), I may take an additional chewable ADEK vitamin.

    I’m hungry. Lol I miss chewing food. I’m only on day 8 post op. Chewing jello is not the same. It’s not like chicken. Lol Drinking my protein all day long is getting old really fast. Sigh… #justventing
  9. My surgeon had me on liquid diet for two weeks then 2 weeks of Puree and the stages three which I’m on now soft diet until October and then regular diet. And I keep look at these incision like ain’t no way they took my stomach out these little wholes I wish they would of woke me up and showed me! I heard it picks up later I can say I lost some hair which is the wrong thing to be loosing . weight loss surgery not hair loss 🤦‍♀️ I paid money to loose hair lol 😂
  10. So I'm currently creating my grocery list for next week when I land on soft foods, and I was curious when do I get to eat mushrooms? As that's one of my favorite vegetables and I see that they're bariatic safe online but nothing that says when I can eat them. I'm also curious about chicken/turkey wings, as I have an air fryer I figured that'll be an easy way to have a "fried" fixing since I can do up the skin perfectly crisp. Is that okay too at the soft stage?
  11. I've only lost 12 lbs. so far . I'm on reg. food now. ( surgery was May 22 ) I'm eating low calorie,low carb low everything and the dumb scale just laughs at me. I see my surgeon Mid, Aug ... I'm going to ask him if he's SURE he took anything outta me , cuz it sure doesn't seem like it !! LOL
  12. Lol right like let me happy for the moment while my body trying to figure this thing out. I thought smaller stomach less food loose weight. Mannnnnn that’s not how it’s playing out like gheesh this a whole math class measurement walking no drinking and eating what did I sign up for lol! I jus want to skinny for my bday lol! How much have u lost so far I stop at 18 de say on there scale but mine said 24lbs I would like to think I paid more for them little lbs I’m ab to go back to liquid diet. Bc stage 3 ain’t my friend. But wait u said u doing junk food aren’t u on Puree stage?
  13. You sound so much like me .... LOL I'm 2 months out and I've been stalled for 3 weeks.... ugh. I keep thinking ,hey- as long as I'm not losing or gaining-maybe I can pig out on junk food while my body is deciding what to do.

    Constipation 😭😭

    very common problem. For some folks it improves quite a bit after you start eating more fibrous foods again (a few weeks out), but for many of us, it's a chronic issue. I'm eight years out and still take a capful of Miralax every morning to keep on top of it (a lot of us use Miralax (or the generic equivalent), by the way). Others use stool softeners, magnesium, Smooth Move tea, or eat a few prunes every day. Whatever works! PS sounds like you're in the UK. If so, it's called RestoraLAX there
  15. What has your experience been with having the sleeve to bypass revision? How was the recovery? Do you have many more food aversions? More dumping? More severe hair loss? I'm considering the revision due to GERD and I want to hear all the stories before I commit.

    If you are having milk with your cereal and able to keep that down, drink that. Any liquid will count towards your daily hydration needs besides water. Find things your body won't reject within your doctor's food plan and concentrate on those things, no matter how limited it is. For now, at least, till you get further out and past all the nausea. Also, you might need to wait longer than 30 minutes after eating to drink. Sometimes I have to wait an hour or more or else I can't keep any liquid down. As I was allowed more options to eat, I found out quickly that my tummy wasn't having certain foods. Chicken is a big no for me. Try not to introduce things too quickly. Your body sounds like it's just not ready for most things. Good luck!
  17. Unfortunately no. Eggs are a solid food. Liquids mean you have to be able to drink the ‘food’ - no chewing.

    11 Years Post Surgery

    Thank you so much for sharing. So many people have posted about weight regain, especially with VSG. It is inspiring to hear your testament of long term success. Lifetime vigilance and dedication in embracing a new and healthy relationship with food seems to be the deciding factor. BRAVO!!!

    August 2023 Surgery Buddies!

    I had my revision June 21st, original R N Y in 2005. Just remind yourself it is to make sure your liver is smaller to make the surgery less complicated for you! If you haven't tried them yet, bariatric pal has awesome protein shots available. I love the orange. It's like conentrated Tang! 100 calories, 15 grams of protein. Other really good protein shakes that got me through it, Redcon1 Protein shakes are 0 grams of sugar 250 calories and 40 grams of protein. Also KaChava is a good powder shake with alot of protein and super foods in it. I still incorporate these in my diet post surgery and it definately helps. Hope your surgery goes well with no issues!

    What the h*ll is going on?!?!

    What an awful experience to be having! It sucks when you get the rarer reactions to things, its no fun being a medical challenge! Have they tried any other nausea medication? They like to go with Zofran because its what they give chemo patients and for some it works REALLY well. Sadly I always get breakthrough nausea with it. Plus it causes awful stomach pain and constipation for some. I find promethazine works better for me alternating with the Zofran and the scopolamine patches are nice too. So if they haven't tried other meds, definitely ask about it, there are lots out there! I also wear those seasick wrist bands. For me it isn't one thing that works so much as a combo of things together. My nausea isn't from surgery but from iron infusions, they make me violently ill for weeks! But needs must. The brain fog is probably from dehydration, lack of actual balanced food and nutrients, and sugar fog from the Sprite. Have they checked your electrolytes? Sometimes when those get unbalanced it can make nausea and brain fog worse. Have you tried those vitamin B lollipops pregnant women use? It might help and will at least get some vitamins in you if you tolerate them. If you are really miserable and have spare cash, I'd find a local acupuncturist to see. Acupuncture has been proven to be effective for chemo nausea so I expect it might work for this too! Good luck with finding something that works! In the meantime keep trying. I know that sounds awful but the more things you try the better the odds are you'll find a few things that will stay down. ❤️
  21. Hey all, I had my GS done on 6/21/2023, and I feel like I’ve been going through hell ever since. My surgery went great and the healing process went normally. But the weirdness started happening around 3 weeks post surgery. SEVERE nausea and vomiting 3+ times daily. My Dr has me on Zofran which only works sometimes and I’ve been living my day to day barely eating or drinking ANYTHING. My body REJECTS water (tried all different kinds and temperatures of water, along with different flavorings; nada), and it comes right back up. Food stays down a bit easier but even the thought of eating most things makes me gag. I’m prepared for the backlash on the comment I’m about to make but honestly all my body lets me keep down is Sprite and occasionally some cereal. I know I know, I’m supposed to be avoiding sugar and carbonation. But honestly I’d rather get Sprite and cereal down than throw up water and chicken over and over again. My Dr says I’m part of the 10-15% of patients who experience severe nausea weeks after surgery, and that it’s something that goes away on its own.. Has anyone else experienced this?? I’m scheduled to get a CT scan on the 9th of Aug. to see what the heck is going on. I’m almost 50lbs down a little over a month past surgery and to be honest I’m a bit worried I’m losing TOO much weight? (TMI?) But I haven’t gotten my period since the surgery (I’m 20 so my period is usually pretty consistent). Brain fog is real right now!!! I take 30 seconds to process the things people say to me right now and 30 seconds to form coherent sentences. Is this from lack of food? Lack of water? Who knows, but it’s really annoying. This post is all over the place, but I feel the confusion of this post connects perfectly to where my brain is at right now. I have no idea what’s going on, all I know is my stomach hurts and I’m nauseous and I just want this nightmare to end so I can start LIVING. Thanks in advance for reading.

    First real food? Cherries!!

    Last week for the first time, was the very first time I have been able to tolerate salmon. Before it was my very fav food, now its a bit blah. I am fine with it raw but cooked its way too rich, Hope you have better luck than me

    Losing weight before surgery - how

    Stock up with lots of low carb, sugar free, high protein snacks. That way you are still sticking to the plan. My surgeon explained that the sugar intake is the biggest thing, because it allows your liver to shrink and reduces risk during surgery. I did portioned out mini containers of t good foods, and it really helped. Some favorites were - Cottage cheese cups, sugar free jello, triple zero yogurt, cooked chicken, moon cheese, healthier popcorn, P3 Protein snacks. All easy and fulfilling.

    I make 3 months on the 15th. I am currently down 83 pounds since pre opp diet and 73 down since surgery. I am doing everything possible to hit my protein goal each day working out 4-5 days a week at a gym. Just sign up for a personal trainer to meet once a week. I have started to allow my self a chip or two when my family eats Mexican food at home after I had my dinner. I am craving crunch and pickles have been my friend. I hope all is going well for y’all as well.
