On the Fence
New Me, New Mind replied to chunkymonkey123's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5'6 and weighed 252lbs at my highest(1 week before surgery) and 242lbs on day of surgery (7.27.20). You won't regret surgery. Since i have always carried my weight well and had thick thighs and a booty, I wondered if surgery was really the way to go for me too. I knew i was unhappy and overwhelmed by my weight gain but I was afraid of lose skin too. I have lost 60lbs in total and 50lbs since surgery a little over 3 months ago. I am 192 today and feel amazing. I am a bit concerned about lose skin on my arms but I'll take it with how confident I feel now. I feel more confident today at 192 then i did at 145 before i had kids! Lol. It makes no sense but I've had a complete mind shift with this surgery lol. Best of luck to u! A little straight talking: Loose skin versus your health & well being? Personally, I think it’s a simple decision. I have glaucoma & the medication gives me dark, purple shadows under my eyes which nothing will cover (spent a fortune on different concealers). I’m very fair & it’s very obvious. People think I’m sick. But my choice is dark, purple shadows or my sight. Sight wins every day. How much loose skin you will have depends upon many factors like your age, general skin elasticity, where you carry your weight, how long you’ve been at your weight, your history of weight gain & loss, & how much you lose. I don’t have a lot of loose skin - just sort of droopy, loose, crepey bits on my inner thighs, inner upper arms & on my belly. A good pinch but not a handful. It all hides well in my clothes. I wear fitted knit dresses without any type of shape wear & even wear tops with wide straps - I just don’t wave my arms in the air lol. I’m not someone who’d have my body on display anyway - no shorty shorts, bikinis, plunging or strapless tops for me at any weight. 😁 So the loose skin doesn’t really impact my clothing choices at all. I was almost 54 when I had my surgery so I had age against me in regards to my skin bouncing back. Honestly, when I hit my goal I had very little loose skin - was pretty cocky about it too. But the extra 11 kg loss gave me what I have now. I’ve decided I won’t have any surgery to remove the excess skin. I earned that skin & a part of me, for good or bad, thinks I deserve it too. It’s a good reminder of where I was & where I am now. But it is your decision. We all have things that are personally important to us (for me it is my hair). I hope I haven’t belittled yours.

re: excess skin. Until the pandemic started, I worked with the pre-op groups at my clinic. Did this for about four years - at least 12 groups a year. Almost all of them are freaked out about the loose skin. I, also, obsessed about loose skin when I was a pre-op and early post-op. I can tell you now that most of us who are out a ways wonder why we wasted even one brain cell worrying about it. In the grand scheme of things, it's really a minor issue. I would take loose skin any day over weighing almost 400 lbs again. ANY FREAKING DAY!!! for most of us, it's easy to hide in clothes. I eventually had my excess skin removed, but I'm sure I was the only one who ever noticed it. Here's a picture of me BEFORE I had skin removal surgery. Do you see any loose skin? Nope. I tucked my stomach into my pants, wore longish, slightly oversized tops, and wore 3/4 length (or longer) sleeves. Ta da! Loose skin gone!

HI everyone, I have been pondering weight loss surgery for a couple years now . I am currently enrolled in a program at my local Kaiser and am about to finish the nutrition classes which are required to qualify for surgery. I am 5'6 and weigh 242 lbs. I've always been the chunky girl not too big but definitely not skinny. I guess I am just scared that I won't be able to keep up with the requirements of the surgery such as living the healthy lifestyle or committing to exercise 5 times a week. Also I am scared of the excess skin. I don't know if surgery is the way to go but at the same time I don't want to keep gaining weight. I am pre-diabetic and have a fatty liver I know this may be the beginning of more severe problems to come. Any input is welcome :)

Thank you. My pre op, is three optifast products (shakes, bars, soups or desserts) a day and a minimum of two cups of vegetables. I have a dietitian appointment on Tuesday so she will let me know if I can have anything else. But I think my Surgeon follows Sally Johnston’s complete guide to nutrition for weight loss surgery. So I have read this book and It seams pretty strict for the pre op. I hope I loose the 4kgs and more. I will enjoy meat and solid meals while I can, but obviously not going crazy though as I do not want to put on more weight. the multiple Christmas parties I have coming up are going to be the biggest temptations ever! But I will stay strong! Or just no go haha.

I am so happy today! 50 pounds gone! It has taken 3.5 months, which is longer than I thought it would take, but it's 50 pounds gone which is more than I've ever lost before regaining! I lost 25 pounds the first month and have been averaging 10 pounds for the last 2.5. I had to resign myself to NOT getting to goal by the holidays, but I have felt amazing, never deprived and my skin and hair look great! Slow and steady wins the race! I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Getting in your protein grams
kellym1220 replied to skinnyfeelsgood's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I eat Chomps as a snack...they are grass fed beef/turkey/venison sticks. They have 90 calories and 9 grams of protein. About an ounce and a half. I also add collagen powder to my coffee (9 grams of protein, plus good for skin and hair) and 1/4 of a protein shake, usually caramel Premier Protein or Fairlife Vanilla (approximately 7.5 grams of protein). Throw in a Greek yogurt and you are almost there! -
Puree stage, how much to eat
Arabesque replied to JoanneLaRusch's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
About 1/4 to 1/3 of a cup depending on how wet & loose your purée is & how slowly you eat. The reality of the quantity is really weird to begin. I used to make scrambled eggs from two eggs & eat them over three days so like you @GivinItMyALL. A serve of rolled oats took three or four days. My fridge was full of dishes covered with cling film. Lol -
Yup, I'd say all of us experience it. But soooooo much better to be cold and able to put more clothes on, than to be so hot and you can't take any more off. And much better than the hot, sweaty, fungal skin infections in all the folds nd creases every summer! Besides, it's fun to buy cute sweaters and jackets!

November. Maintaining my weight loss between 173 and 174 for the most part. Weighing every morning to keep myself on track and maintain. I am comfortable in my own baggy skin, enjoying making wholesome soups with the cooler weather. Back in the office 2 days a week, working from home rest of week. And going out to homes to see families. Staying masked and wearing PPE. Vegetable garden has fresh micro greens and lettuces, brocolli and cauliflower, kale and rainbow chard growing. Carrots too ! Stay healthy, and wear your masks !!!

Food Before and After Photos
Cheeseburgh replied to GreenTealael's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Loose meat sandwiches are so strange to me! Always reminds me of this story. My practice husband got a promotion and transfer to Iowa a few months after our first kid was born. He started working before we actually moved of course. One night he called me trying to explain this weird hamburger he got at a drive through. He was trying to explain it to me and I couldn’t wrap my head around it. Finally he said, “It’s like you’re making spaghetti with meat sauce and you stop before you put sauce in it” For some reason that cracked me up and stuck with me 32 years later! I lived in Iowa for 5 years and never tried one. -
Please Help - Giving Up the Good Food

Down in the south, we call it "sticky" chicken .... I'm attaching a video for you.... it the one that comes closest to how i do it. Depending on the size of your family, you can cut the recipe in half. I don't use skin on or bone in.... i just don't like it.... but you can if you want -
Anyone for October 2020?
Lilfootie replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
hi everyone - Three weeks out. Yesterday one one of my incisions started oozing yellow. I had a small green spot on the scab as of last week. I messaged my care team. I have a feeling it is infected. It looked wonky since the start and they told me at my last appt it looked fine. All my others are nearly gone now. Still dealing with the seriously itchy welts from the Lovonox allergy. They have not gone away or gotten smaller. I have one 2-4 inches in diameter every place I injected for the first two weeks. Literally covered in then. Between weeks 2-3 I only lost half a pound (I only weighed Sunday). Either the stall came early, or all the Benadryl and swelling from my rash is keeping me from loosing (Benadryl can cause weight gain when taken over time, and I was taking it 3-4x per day for a week). Pretty down about everything. I feel like I am missing a chance for major weight loss and just ridiculously uncomfortable. -

Rougamo (I like to think this is the ancestor of Iowa’s Loose Meat Sandwich 😂) -
Hope it happens for you soon! Took me 6 days, I think, and now I have the opposite problem... Everything is SUPER loose. Ugh...

You may need to add more water, milk, stock or whatever to what you’re pureeing. It should be pretty loose & sloppy. You can purée lots of things. It’s just trial & error as to what you’ll enjoy in regards to taste & texture. My friend told me she purée poached chicken thighs (breast is too coarse) with lots of gravy & stock. Unfortunately she told me on the last day of my purée stage. Sigh. I tried pureeing tinned fish but it was disgusting. I had good success with rolled oats & scrambled eggs.

Good to have behind you eh? Day 5 & my first day of full liquids. Feeling very weak & still bloody, loose stools. Certain that it will just take time & healing. Hope you continue on the upswing & can go home tomorrow. Betting your kitties will be SO happy to see you! 😺😺

Hey Guys, I am newly posting but have been reading along since last year. I got sleeved on March 4th, 2020. The day I got the surgery the hospital I was in had 2 covid cases, and then the city shut down. I haven't been to a support group meeting (obviously because covid) but thank you all for your post they have been my support since. I just wanted to check in with anyone else that may have had the surgery in March to see how you are doing? I have been feeling a bit depressed lately. I don't know if it's from the pandemic or the slowing of my progress or a combination of all. I have lost a total of 70 lbs since March but I haven't lost anything for the past 2 months and it's depressing me. I did lose a lot of inches but it has been hard to get workouts in and I am getting concerned about the loose skin. I got the surgery at 243lbs and am currently 172 lbs. I am thinking of going back to a soft foods diet but I barely get 1000 calories in a day. Just looking for some other stories or support/suggestions here. BTW I don't regret a thing and good luck to everyone that is going through the process!

Unflavored Protein Powder
kellym1220 replied to Hlminichillo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have used Genepro and Root Vitality Collagen powder. I bought the Collagen powder for my skin and nails (before I even considered WLS) but it does have 10 grams of protein and stirs EASILY into my hot coffee. I use Genepro (30 grams of protein) with things like protein bites, protein jello shots (not as much fun as the ones I had in college) and stirred into refried beans and other cooked items that are not boiling. -
Any 300lb men? How much have you lost?
billho replied to tomd74's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wasn't quite to 300, but similar starting BMI (5'9", 284 lbs HW). Surgery 9/21, weighed in 218 today, which is lighter than I have been in 20 years. Before, I was tired all the time and everything hurt. Now I am much more active, my BP is much lower, and I am wearing L pants and XL shirts for the first time in many years. I have about 30 lbs to go, but I think that goal is in reach. I'm glad I did this. Today, I put on my "skinny" jeans, meaning they were the ones I was hanging on in case I got thin again. They were too loose and I need to go down a size. -

Laura Deleon Reyes posted a topic in Revision Weight Loss Surgery Forums (NEW!)

Im at 295 and really want to at least loose 40 to 50 more but have plateaued and kind given up . Had my revision done 8 months ago. -
Anyone for October 2020?
Whipped replied to barbieater's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was surprised when I weighed myself today, Day 18 after surgery and only down 14lbs! I wasn’t told to be on any sort of diet before the surgery except for a liquid diet 1 day prior to surgery. Is it unusual to loose so slowly? -
So, I am nearly 15 years (yes years) postop. I started at 315 and plummeted to 142 within 10 months of surgery. I was super happy but I was also sick. I didn't have energy, I looked sick...but I was SKINNY! For the first time in my adult life, I wore a SMALL! I loved and hated it at the same time. Then I was told to gain weight because due to all the excess skin, I was really underweight and it was NOT healthy for me. Well, long story short...I can eat pretty much anything and not dump. Then my portions started growing and my snacking came back. I gained, I lost, I gained, I lost...you all know how that goes. I got back up to 230 and was miserable again. I started doing VERY well earlier this year and lost nearly 25 pounds of regain, then COVID-19 struck and has me working from home. This led right back to horrible habits and not as much movement (I didn't even have to walk to my car!). The company I work for has wonderful programs to help get motion and nutrition back on track. Well, that is if you are able bodied (I have bad knees and am just trying to keep replacements at bay as long as I can) and can eat like a normal person. The PT and nutritionist had me doing things that just didn't work for me...not once but TWICE. I told them over and over I couldn't exercise on my knees nor could I eat the portions they were assigning to me. Frustrated, I started researching revisions. I found one I was seriously contemplating, regardless of insurance coverage (I was THAT desperate). I was on the verge of calling my GP for a referral when I thought, "What about going back to basics"? So, about two weeks ago, I found some sites (this is one of them!) with bariatric specific meal plans, food, vitamins, gadgets, etc. I took the plunge and ordered protein powders, protein snacks, meal replacements and changed my vitamin routine to the 1 A Day on here. I bought shaker bottles for my shakes, 15 minute increment water bottles to make me drink my water (if you knew me, you would know I HATE water), and I also cleared two shelves in my pantry for JUST ME. It's now been just over a week and I am down 4 pounds. I have so much more energy that my husband was like "who are you and where is my wife"! I have already noticed a difference in some of my clothes - no more dancing routine putting on my yoga pants! It's not easy, but I have to remember where I was and where I want to be once again! Sorry this was so long but I started typing and couldn't stop!

Sex drive low? I discovered the answer. I am. 65 year-old female. The answer: saw palmetto! I started taking it for skin snd hair but oh boy did I discover another plus!!!!!!! I took it for 3 months & then i had “the warmies” all the time!!! I take the herb, not the extract. Figured it’s safer. Try it!!!
