  1. Thank you everyone for the te assurance. I' think my struggle had been kind of well a struggle with dealing with if I want to have more. Or enough to feel full bc the uncomfortableness. But you are right establishing good eating habits should be something I focus on. I'm excited about that. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Need help deciding if sleeve is for me

Some ppl with sleeve get dumping too but not as common I dobt seem to as of now...but interestingly, I sampled my mom s candy and sweet s and tgey taste super sweet and undesirable post surgery.. However I have a huge chocolate craving and finding chocolate yogurt to placate it but most are to Higg in sugar and fat. I had one, didn't get suck but saud, I didn't go through all this surgery for nothing... it's important I work in self control, will power and make the right decisions Bypass is much more likely to give you negative reinforcement then sleeve but it still comes down to working on psychological relationship with food, determination to self care and reward yourself once in a long while if it won't be a trigger to Willy Wonka's chocolate factory! I'm in purees hitting just at three weeks out and u still feel frequent hunger pangs despite protonix however I get full fast and dobt desire junk foods In time, I feel I will be able to eat anything though and so I'm working hard now in therapy and at home on changing my habits, relationship and self control I have a high BMI and was supposed to get bypass originally bc it's easier to shed tge weight but i have multiple complex medical issues so surgeon felt sleeve was safer and better with all the meds I need. Sleeve us safer too complications wise however you have to work harder on your own emotions, will power etc..you can definitely eat around the sleeve as tgey call it and many cab eat anything wo internal consequences eventually

    I'm thinking about a revision...

Have you had a pouch test to see if everything is in tact? Also, good to have a good physical as there are many things that can cause tiredness and weight imbalance... low vit D, thyroid as you said and done drs dobt follow the updated values on what is considered hypothyroidism, anemia, autoimmune diseases, Cushing's syndrome, pcos, and more I do think going back to the basics for more then a week might be. Good idea especially if you do have anoyhet unknown issue in the way. You can document everything so you have evidence to show the insurance and new doctor that you tried everything and here are the results Maybe you do need a revision but if you have a primary thyroid condition, a revision is not likely to fix it help much...your body needs repair first with meds, than WLS can be considered. I have bipolar, and lithium has given me hypothyroidism but after a couple years on thyroid meds, it's better. I was just sleeved and I have pcos too and I notice my weight is slow to move off despite following the rules. Still tweaking things though... I have to get steroids from time to time and that makes me voraciously hungry, pack on lbs and store fat for the winter lol but I'm still loosing with the surgery just not as fast as my counterparts it seems.... So, having thyroid issues should not make you gain huge amounts and loose nothing with the sleeve in place unless something is wrong with the sleeve and it happens even though not often I have to be very strict about my meals bc I dobt lose as fast so maybe you need a diet reset for longer, document every crumb for yourself, the NUt, surgeon old or new and insurance. Also suggest getting a good exam..maybe you need a new gp!! Good fortune

    Calcium Chews Calories

Some ppl find them to be the one little treat they can legally have lol..NUT said this to me... So far, the Kirkland ones I tried tasted nasty!! So I'm considering another pill...if they aren't horse sized... I take a lot of pills as it is and it's much hRder with the sipping Water thing... That's a lot of calories but I want to be fit abd healthy without obsessing about every fat, calorie and whatever is going in and out bc that's why ppl with eating disorders do like anorexia.... It's good info to consider though but just saying, to me, I want weight loss, healthy eating, exercise without counting every drop. Of course, in the beginning, logging is important to make sure you're accountable etc but that's my limit!!

    Psych Eval tomorrow

I have medicaid or its called medi cal here... I also, due to my complex health issues and living with my mom and Obama making sure insurance companies cant deny ppl with pre existing conditions have private primary insurance with blur shield... they also required a six month supervised nutrition, support group attendance and other random things like illustrating you have tried and failed several weight loss plans. I have a ppo, it is expensive and still I had hoops aswell..itsit's no jusMedicaid that demands this.... I think, they believe they are trying o help ppl prepare for the surgery...most insurance companies, including government ones don't care about research studies They don't really want to pay but if they do, tgey try and throw together some resembles of care and follow up...just my cynical opinion here I do feel, that at least with medi cal here in Cygeythey approved adding the sleeve ratgerrather fast to li ofif procedures they will cover cover so to me, that indicates some desire to help patients plus it saves them economically bc being really fat, getting comorbidities, medications, tests, er visits cost a lot more then weight loss surgery...

    Scare and Confused

I'm on purees as well. What are you eating?? Sent from my SM-G920V using the BariatricPal App Protein powder in nonfat milk for Breakfast or scrambled egg, tuna pouch with one wasa cracker, turkey meatballs in chicken broth and chard and a few saltines, yogurt, cottage cheese non fat or lie fat by Lucerne with apple sauce, mmmm butter Beans, refried beans or pinto beans with salsa, hummus and Melba toast or wasa, Basically that's what I choose from..I chew tge crackers to pulp and my NUT said it was fine bc I was hungry all if the time before and now I'm not. I eat five mini meals every 2.5-3hours as they told me. Not sure it's working yet... I use fage yogurt with stevia drops and true line or lemon for flavoring it I buy yogurts from trader Joes non fat Greek. Still on popsicles!!

    Psych Eval tomorrow

It's just there are a lot of people with undiagnosed issues or even unrecognized eating issues that should be screened in advance bc some ppl just bs whatever to get what they want and then there are huge issues latter that could have been prevented Our society puts mental health 2nd or 3rd place even and dobt take it seriously when it can break or make success even prior to the actual surgery. Most of the psych stuff comes after but it helps when clinics know a client doesn't have good social support for instance... Anyways, off my soapbox..I just find it disturbing that psych part is so disregarded in the pre process as if it doesn't truly matter... Maybe it's bc I do research in psych and public health so I'm exposed more to the consequences if medical and psychiatric negligence...etc

Also look for that post in the search area en titled Therapy... It might be helpful for more info on just what you asked... Therapy helps me loads with these and other issues

Not telling anyone. What do you say?

I am not telling either- I know they will try to talk me out of it. My hubby knows and is fully supportive. I have told one friend and her husband bc she was sleeved a year and a half ago- she inspired me to do it and she is kind of my mentor in the whole process. Maybe I will tell after the fact- maybe not. It's noone's business but mine. I plan on just saying the same business about working with my doc/nutritionist, low carbing, exercising etc.... it will all be true. I am a bit worrried about energy loss after surgery bc I am an aid in a kindergarten classroom though! Bring on the B12. Non Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App
  11. Congrats!! I would have loved one week of liquid, but will definitely look for ways to switch up and push through the two weeks. Let's keep each other on track as we embark on this journey. After reading some of the insurance nightmare stories, getting that call yesterday lifted a heavy weight. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SM-G890A using the BariatricPal App I was afraid I wasn't going to get approved bc of my BMI but I JUST made it at 40.1 Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
  12. I too have PCOS, I currently have the Nexpalon (insert in upper arm), is a 3year BC. Have had no periods since I had, I'm due to have it replaced March 2017. Sent from my SM-G935V using the BariatricPal App
  13. I just started my weight loss journey. I weigh 260 pounds. I have Fed BCBS PPO they require me to have BMI ^ 40 , and 2yrs history of obesity and 3mo supervised classes with NUT , phyc therapy, nutrition classes PCP approval ECT. Best of luck. Sent from my SM-J700T using the BariatricPal App
  14. Im just about three weeks out and was always hungry and on a PPI. Weight not moving either direction probably bc I walk so much. Still fighting some psych eating issues for sure But I talked to Nut again and her advice was to watch calories closer. I thought I was doing a good thing with having my 25 gram Protein powder with 9 gram of protein fat free milk and 8oz of fage yogurt for another 23 oz of protein for breakfast!; And yes I could drink it all! But she said to much protein at once for the body to handle and a lot of calories si split it or subtract a ingredient She also put me on five meals a day ..small meals every 2.5-3 hours and said I could add in. Little slow burning carbs or light carbs like Melba toast or wasa crackers, brown rice, quinoa etc This has made a huge difference in hunger and I'm quickly satisfied. I still think I can eat more then four bites but still get full fast My big issue is emotionally eating at night when I can't sleep .. that's something I need help with so plan to talk to my therapist about it. Getting in enough fluids is also hard ..before surgery, I drank Water like a camel.... I walk at tge mall or a store for distraction and flat surface. I walk almost a hour most days. I did strain a stomach muscle so docs said gentle walking..ice gotten alot of energy sense surgery so trying to expend it. Anyways, I think the stomach can stretch a little but not a lot unless your making super bad choices. Also carbonation and drinking with a straw as well as chewing gum cab put unwanted air, pressure in the stomach..I accidentally drank with a straw tge other day and it was bad..my tummy was distended into the following day. I could be wrong, but this accidental experience makes me believe my surgeon saying the sleeve can stretch My five or ten cents...

    Does therapy help?

I've seen there are therapist that specializes in food issues or worked in bariatric programs before..si awesome My psychologist doesn't have this direct experience however he has helped me to think about my relationship with food, emotional eating and how my trauma issues might be behind my maintaining so much weight.... He also has given me ideas for managing food triggers and managing difficult times. It helps I also read a book by a dr tanie on coping with or after weight loss surgery. Really helpful Cognitive behavioral therapy really is helpful and one of the best therapies for food issues among other things All therapist aren't created equal so sometimes it can be tricky to find the right one! If course I found a therapist lobefirebefomy sleeve bc I have PTSD and bipolar. I had other things to deal with and feel fortunate to have his support in my journey
  16. one year post op

    Under 200.

My first six weeks after surgery I did not count calories(a year ago) . During the first six weeks I counted only Protein and Water. I followed the clinic and nutrition plan to a T.... It gets easier I promise. Those few weeks were the hardest so don't give up. You will wake up one day , weigh and be shocked at how much you lost. Take photos at different stages . I didn't because I hated looking at myself. My friend had my pic to remind me and show me how much I had lost and the changes.. I am so glad Bc it really helped me see the change. First bowel movement after sleeve

They put me on collace a stool softener, and latter added miralax then suggested benefiber if nothing else helped but only a little bc it can quickly make things worse especially if your having issues getting all the fluids in If your still in the pain meds, that stuff really slows the bowel motility up too Took me several days, they said if no bm by four days, to call bc that can get you sick

    Can't tolerate chewable vitamins

Gummies don't have the Iron which is really needed after this surgery with the diet.... There are many kinds of chewables out there..I take Flintstones complete lol. NUT recommend!! But tgey are just ok. Not a treat lol Some ppl just take pills you swallow but better to get cleared for that. I hate many Vitamins bc thy are huge or make you belch the flavor yuk Good fortune
  19. so I would pretty much just have to do two times of that? Can you taste it at all does it thicken your broth though? Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App AWESOME THATS WHAT IM GETTING!!! I just finally got my lunch one down and it's soon dinner time this is horrible!!! All so overwhelming

I'm am four days into my preop diet and it's not as horrible as I thought it would be the worst part is getting down the Protein shakes. I am struggling with that bc I'm not a sweets person. So I get nauseous. I'm gunna try the Protein powder to mix in my broth this weekend. But I'm down a total of 24 lbs. I'm completely shocked didn't think I cld loose that much that fast. When I get hungry I find something to keep me busy organizing cupboards cleaning out the fridge. I cook every night for my family and I sit at the dinner table while they eat. I have to get used to this bc I can't expect them to make the same changes especially when two of my kids have problems gaining weight. And it's not like if after I have the surgery I can go to a party or family function and say hey guys don't eat I can't and it makes me want too. That would be craziness lol. So I'm preparing myself and I honestly think the pre op diet is great to mentally prepare people. Just make sure you stick to what u r prescribed as ur diet. Everyone's is different I cannot have any food just liquids. And everything low fat or non fat I would kill for a price of chicken right now but it's not worth it. As a nurse I've seen to much to not follow the diet orders. Best of luck on ur journey. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

  22. thanks a lot that what my nutritionist suggests is to find one I like and can handle I have ISO100 right now. But it so expensive to just keep buying till I find one that works. And they don't taste horrible I actually was surprised at the taste bc I was expecting worse just they make me have a nauseated feeling after and then that causes me nausea when looking at them for the next one. Thanks for all the input!!! Much appreciated!! Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App

Got sleeved 10/24. HW 226, SW 209, CW 194. Lost 12 lbs since surgery. Can only eat soft foods. Stopped eating the carb soups bc I felt like it was slowing my weight loss down. I started walking on the treadmill 3 days post op. Trying to get more Water and Protein in. Ate chicken breast and threw up. Gonna take it slow with meat and stick with a soft diet, up the exercise, try to get 60 grams of protein in and hopefully keep dropping the lbs. I was losing 1-2 lbs per day the first week and a half, this week I gained and lost the same pound. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App
