  1. I am being banded in November by Dr Turnquest in Houston. I really liked him and his staff. Don't know if he takes BC/BS but it's worth a look. Good luck!

    Birth Control/Hormone Questions!

I had to stop 6 weeks before surgery and can't resume 'til Sunday, which will be first Sunday after my 6 week post op date. I was told same thing w/NSAIDs. I was told that the bc and nsaids was due to bleeding/blood clot issues.

  4. I take Prozac in liquid form, chew 2 calcium Viactiv and 1 Multi-Vitamin Viactiv and use BC powders for aches and pains or Tylenol liquid for adults....so far I haven't had to take anything else.
  5. My Dr. told me not to try to swallow anything larger than a birth control pill. They advised me to crush pills and open capsules so that is what I have been doing but I don't take medication daily outside of bc. I take Nexxium occasionally but haven't since being banded. My pain med after banded was in liquid form. I have heard from other bandsters that once you get filled that you can't swallow pills but usually can before but I never tried it!!!

    Almost 3 mos post TT/BA&lift

Omg! You look awesome! I'm 16 days post op TT & uplift and look nowhere near as flat as you... How do you keep the swelling down- I can't stand as straight as you either *sighs*. I have a seroma and it is not going away, surgeon won't drain cos he doesn't want to risk infection ... I wanted him to but hey-ho. Please share any handy hints, cos I'm getting fed up of the swell hell!
  7. I just had my two week post op apt Wednesday and asked the same questions. My surgeon told me cardio is fine now but core workouts like Pilates, TRX, barre should be at least 4-6 weeks out. I'll be going back to my weekly Pilates at 6 weeks out, starting back with a one on one with my instructor before going back to my group class. At our bariatric support group on Thursday, this also came up. The bariatric nurse from our local hospital was there and she said it is imperative that we get protein in before and after our workouts. I'm a little freaked out to go back to orange theory bc I can't seem to get all my water in and those workouts make me want to down water like crazy. I was thinking taking a protein water to orange theory with me. I think I may start walking my 3 mile loop for a couple weeks first and then hitting orange theory. I'll be three weeks out tomorrow and am definitely feeling like I'm not moving enough. 5'7 HW: 256 SW: 248 CW: 235 At 2 week post op GW: 150 Fantasy GW: 135 Sleeved 8/7

First fill/ feel like I am eating more!!

Add me to the boat.. I got my first fill yesturday and was only given a half of a cc guess I still had a lot of Fluid in my band from my surgery. I did the liquid diet all yesturday and most of today... But I just can't stay full on the liquids I feel hungry and I get get really pissy bc of my hunger... So tonight I ate some solids everything went down just fine... My husband and I can notice Im eating a lot less then I ever was just hoping im on the right track. Im excited ive been released to start working out again so im hoping that helps pick up the pace with my weight loss. I would love any POSITIVE advice of your successes!! I wish everyone the best but its comforting knowing there are others out there going through the same dilemas as myself! Good luck!
  9. Looks like we're band buddies!!! My surgery was schedule for today but was reschedule on Thursday Aug 16 bc the storm here knock out sum machine n da op room...thank God it's was not durning my surgery....so it looks like I'll b on the same day as you!!!! Good luck 2 everyone and much success to you all!!!!! I'm havin mixed emotion also....
  10. The 15/10/5 is a good idea, but does your RD include a snack too? Bc that would only be 45 g of protein/day, which isn't a lot. My RD recommends 20 g of protein per meal and if you have 1 snack, to make it something like a 10 g protein snack....
  11. My surgeon palpates your abdomen in the pre-op appointment and has you go on the liquid diet if he feels a fatty liver is going to be an issue (in my case, I didn't have to do it--I think it's more common for people who have a lot of abdominal adipose tissue, which is usually genetic as related to some people having more of an "apple" shape). However, if my surgeon had told me to do a liquid diet--I definitely would have followed it religiously. Two weeks pre-op is not really the time to be doing food funerals (I didn't do that bc I didn't want to have to work harder after surgery to take off weight I would have surely gained). I don't agree that it's the surgeon's "opinion" that matters--it's the evidence-based medicine that matters, and hopefully we all have surgeons that follow the EBM. Mine did, and that's one of the reasons I chose him.

Anyone have thoughts on Aloe Juice? Someone on FB recommended it to me and I took some last night. Is it BS or does it actually help with anything? lol.

    Surgery on 12/28

I went back to work today. It was ok for the most part. I had to run out of my classroom this afternoon bc I threw up my afternoon snack. Thankfully, my 4th graders are understanding. Bless em!

    Surgery on 12/28

I had my surgery on dec. 28 as well. I’ve been in a good amount of pain. Been taking my Norco and phenegan every 4 hours. I have the stabbing under my right breast. My doctor said that suture would hurt the mist bc that’s where he had to pull my stomach. Maybe the same with you. Speedy recovery!

So Sick and Tired of This Battle

Insurance companies that are working for an employer dont have to follow certain federal guidelines.....I forget what its called, but they make up their own policy. If the employer says to cover lollipops and bandaides then they cover lollipops and bandaides. Therefore the discrimination thing doesn't always work with "well its a federal law" feeling. Crap I wish I could remember what thats called....I use to work for Empire BlueCross BlueShield. The companies that we were representing told us what to cover and what not to cover...and because they were a self pay customer, the fed guidelines didn't always fit into the policy...They paid us to cover what they wanted covered. We had High Profile companies too...There was one company that didn't allow for a lot in their policy. The people would call us (not all ways nice people too) and bitch us out for not covering this that and the other. We would tell them, its not in your contract, call your HR rep. They would call as soon as we would hang up, the company would call us and approve the procedure. Seemed kinda pointless, but hey, it was their dime...literally. Then there was a famous news channell that we use to cover here in New York...and they actually covered cosmetic surgery for their employees! Can you imagin that? Elective Cosmetic surgery...face lifts and stuff.....WHOA Nice company to work for!! Appeals can happen....but Alex is right, sounds like you need to lift your self outta this depression and not depend on the appeal to happen right away..........Proteins.....proteins....proteins.....They not only give you energy, long term energy that wont wear off like surgar based HIGHS.....but they will help you build muscle too. Proteins...meats, eggs, cheese, tofu!! IN THE WORDS OF JOE DIRT KEEP ON KEEPIN ON GIRL! TTYL **edit** I just remembered what that guideline is called. If the policy is a Self Administered Policy then the Federal Guidelines don't always apply. The company pays for the policy therefore they can pick and choose policies to cover.
  16. I believe bc of my weight I don't get my periods have not had one since April and that was on the 10 day pills to make me have one. Were Cooking in August

Hey Jeni, Let us know what the class is about and how it went. Sound like you are getting on the right track. I got another fill Friday, so up to 1.9 in the band. I didn't think I was doing that great but I was down 6 lbs from my last fill. So hoping to drop more this next time. My next apt is Sept 24. Keeping my fingers crossed. Anyway with all the stress I am under right now with work I am surprised that I haven't gained 20 lbs. We are short handed and I am picking up the slack. My boss helps but it would help more if he could just stay in the office more. He was gone doing bs for over 4 hours today. This is getting to be a bit much and I am just about fed up. I love my job and I don't want a different boss, but he doesn't see what it is doing to me. I think it is time for me to start keeping track of his time and showing him what I have been putting up with. Wish me luck
  18. I am extremely hypothyroid which started with a goiter at 12 years old. I'm 47 now. I was a slightly chubby but fit child, a slim fit teen, and started gaining weight crazily in my late 20's. It came to a point I could not lose weight, no willpower. I maintained pretty well, but every couple years I would add a few lbs. Just never really lost weight, only a slow slow gain. I am short and weighed 220 when I went to get WLS. As a teen I was 102 lbs for a few years, then 115, then 125...you know how it goes for many women. No longer fit, no longer real high energy. My life is sort of in peaks and valleys. I'm definitely in a valley right now wishing I had more energy. Some people talk about more energy after losing the weight, but for me I have more stamina but still feel a bit tired. I chose this surgery bc I knew the only way I would lose weight was to live with caloric restriction. Bc my metabolism is just low. And I couldn't live on caloric resriction without some help with the sleeve. It is working. Sometimes I think I could manage better with a slightly bigger sleeve, bc it does feel like overkill in some ways. But it is what it is, and my thyroid doesn't seem to have been helped or hurt by this surgery. My blood work has always been fine, it just isn't an issue. ONe thing I did a few years ago was switch to Armour thyroid which is natural. I don't do well on the synthetic hormones.

    Band=Bulimia Help?

I too experienced very similar problems and results. BUT because of the results i was achieving i choose to alter my eating habits to liquids for a week then slowly bringing foods back into my diet, i find that i cant eat a lot of things now that im tighter but hey im down to a size 16 which is SO worth it to me. If you have a problem drinking a protein shake at that time i would concider an unfil (slighly) (like .25cc) but only bc you need those nutrients. Good luck !

Can You Eat Out After This Type Of Surgery?

I have eaten out 3x since my surgery 2.5 weeks ago. I had grilled tilapia the 1st time, grilled shrimp the 2nd, and today my husband ordered a full rack of ribs and I shared with him. I was only able to eat meat from one section of the ribs and had a couple small bites of sweet potato and 1 tiny onion peel. It is amazing how quickly I get full now, but I am able to eat out. I just usually make sure we are going somewhere that will have something grilled or broiled which most places do. It's a nice little treat to get out and I always get so excited after we leave bc I know I would have normally eaten an entire meal. Plus, I have eaten over at a friends house for a party and no one noticed that I ate less than normal. We had chili and I just made a bowl like I normally would and ate and talked and not a single person looked at me weird or asked and my friends are very outspoken so had anyone noticed they would have definitely said something. Good luck! You will be fine and things gradually get better with time.

  25. Don't you hate when the people who kno about ur surgury are watchin what u eat? Its so annoying! I never asked anyone 2 b my doctor! They dont need to tell me what to eat! I feel like im in jail! They all act like I cant eat ANYTHING! Just cuz I had 2 do the stupid liquid diet for 4 weeks, they think I have to be on that for the rest of my life! Like give me a freakin break! I move on to soft foods and they acting like I cant do that. And solids are like Im disobeying my diet to them..Im 1 month post op if I want a small portion of rice let me freakin have it! Im human just like everybody else and it makes me mad when people look at me like Im some alien just because im eating chicken! Like what the hell do u exspect me to eat? salade and water all day?!?! Its like they want to see me starve and thats how Im suppost to lose weight in their eyes. B4 the lap band, ppl would be like "u shouldnt be eatin all of that" buttt now after the lap band they wanna be like "ARE YOU SUPPOST 2 BE EATING THAT?!" or "ISNT THE LAP BAND SUPPOST 2 B MAKING U EAT LESS"...Like no shit dumbass I have no fill n no restriction, Im still hungry. I'll be gettin my first fill in like 2 days. This is not a miracle weight loss plan its going to take time. It took time for me to gain weight it will take some time to lose it. Im just gettin frustrated with ppl looking to see what I eat. I have to defend myself all the time and yell at them because they are so IGNORANT! They cant ever look at the positive things that I did. Such as gettin up every morning to walk 4 miles and at night another 4 miles. Drink water constantly and I watch my calorie intake. I lost 19 pounds so far, maybe more, I'll know when I go to the doctor. But nobody wants to see that, they just look at what I put in my mouth! But I got so fed up with the bullshit I just ignore negative comments. Anybody else going thru this?
