    I Got A FILL!

I now have 5cc worth of saline in my band and I am a happy camper! I'm on liquids until tomorrow morning, and I can move to soft foods like yogurt and cream soups. Friday I can start to resume a regular diet again...or at least, as regular as I have been. If you haven't had a fill yet, it's really not that bad. I think I was pretty anxious about it for nothing. She felt around for my port, and when she found it, gave me some lidocaine first via a tiny injection that I didn't even feel. However, because I was pretty sore from overextending myself the other day, it didn't numb me as well as it could have. When the needle for the fill went in, I didn't feel it at first, but then I could tell it was there. It just felt sore, not a sharp pain or anything. I am entirely convinced if my muscle wasn't so sore it would have been absolutely effortless. I can TOTALLY already tell the difference in restriction. My protein shake went down a LOT slower! Heading to the gym tomorrow morning to work out with my trainer. I have hired him for two months, twice a week, to get me in a routine. Best money I ever spent, besides the cost of the band!

What's on your "Do Not Eat" list?

Try adding or cooking your chicken in something with a creamy or fatty base with oil. You need the lubrication with chicken BC it can dries out even when its wet. Try cooking your chicken in the crock Pot with a can if cream Soup...it keeps it really moist. Make chicken salad with greek yogurt. Just an idea.

  5. Hi all, I am 5 months out and have lost 88lbs which is AWESOME. The whole time though I have been constipated, trying EVERYTHING just to be able to "go" every other day or so but nothing has worked. So I have been using laxatives every weekend to "clean myself out" as I work Monday thru Friday and can''t take them during the week.So unfortunately I can go like 6 days without a BM which is not good. An issue I'm having is the past few weeks, I am not losing like I was the first 5 months and I'm going out of my mind! Example: I weigh myself in the morning when I get up and say my weight is 177.4lb.s. OKay, fine. So I eat a 6oz. yogurt and a few mini rice cakes. And weigh myself say a half hour later (just for this purpose) and my weight goes up to 178.2lb.s!!! This is NOT normal for me! Usually after eating that, my weight wouldn't move at all, or go up maybe an ounce. But now it goes way up, even if I drink a protein shake or water! What's the deal??? Is it because of the constipation and being "FOS" literally?? (I also walk 2 miles a day on top of a very active 8 hour job.) Another example is yesterday, I weighed 177.6lbs in the morning. I had 2 protein shakes, water and 8oz. oatmeal throughout the whole day. I weighed myself that night around 10pm and my weight was 179.2lbs! Now I know weight fluctuates during the day and that's fine, but this is NOT NORMAL for me. Can someone PLEASE help me figure this out?? I'm losing faith in myself and having any more weight loss and I have 47lbs still to lose! PLEASE HELP! DESPERATE! thank you Source: 5 months and HOPELESS! Please help!
  6. I can't stand sugar free jello...so, no, I didn't eat that. I had protein shakes, pureed soup, pudding, yogurt, and sugar free popsicles. Every surgeon's pre-op diet is different, so be sure to follow your surgeon's instructions.

    August 2019 Check In

Day 11 post OP. My program went straight to soft foods about a week post OP. I tried eggs once and it didn't go down well so I've abstained for now. I went back to liquids fir a few days and now able to tolerate refried beans, cottage cheese, plain yogurt, fish and even chicken breasts. Quantity is the issue, I think about 5 to 6 bites of fish and chicken and I am full. I'm allowed 1/2 cup cooked veggies OR non citrus fruits with my proteins but I've not done much of that yet. I typically pair my fish or chicken with cottage or ricotta cheese or plain yogurt. No starches, grains, sugar or dense carbs allowed for now and I don't miss it. So averaging 60g to 70g of protein daily, less than 10g of net carbs. About 500 cals (on a good day) daily. Went back to work yesterday, dealt with head hunger for a bit because of past routines with food and colleagues but working through it. Gently trying to get 10K steps per day if able. Surgical scars have closed but feel a pinch on the largest incision when I bend too quickly otherwise it's like surgery didn't happen. I choose to weigh weekly so next weigh in is Friday. Prayer is that we all ease into this new lifestyle effortlessly[emoji120][emoji120][emoji120] Sent from my SM-N960U using BariatricPal mobile app

    Why Sugar Free?

I dont eat artificial sweeteners. I've learned to tame my sweet tooth to some degree - and I gave up sugar in coffee and tea at 17, and it was pretty easy, it took 2 weeks. Other than that, I keep sugary items to a minimum, but if I'm going to have a treat, I eat the real thing. As far as yogurt and stuff like that - well I dont eat Jello, pudding or Desserts ever anyway, and things like yogurt, I'd eat greek yogurt with some fruit, not sweetened yogurt. I never drink soda ever anyhow, so I dont have a problem with that. You can train your tastebuds away from overtly sweet foods pretty easily - the sugar in things like baked Beans or canned tomatoes or whatever is a bit harder to avoid and you have to read labels. I dont believe sugar is the evil people think it is, its only problematic in the humungous quantities that people consume in all their processed foods and drinks.

How are you getting to 1000/1200 cals a day?

My doc doesn't limit me to 1/2 cup at each meal. He said if I am still hungry, eat a little more. I have to learn to listen to my body, which is quite challenging, but it is working out. Sometimes I eat a cup, sometimes (but rarely) I eat only 1/4 cup. My body knows what it needs. The other thing is, I often will add unflavored Protein powder to Soups, yogurt, oatmeal, etc. to boast my protein intake. You can get very good unflavored protein from unjury. One scoop adds 21 g. protein, 90 cal., and 0 grams of fat. And because you add it to food, it is staying in your upper stomach longer, as opposed to drinking it down, like Mamadot said. HTH!
  14. Thx so much guys. My taste buds r not cooperating post op n all the protein shakes I could stomach pre op are making me gag post op. I know I must get protein in but I just don't know how I'm going to do it. My first follow up appt is Fri so I'll dicuss it with my dr. He has me on strictly liquids (broth, Popsicles, jello, etc) and I'm starving. Hopefully he'll let me kick it up to at least yogurt, pudding, etc. I think I could stomach protein powder mixed in those better than liquids. Thx again.
  15. Hi everyone, Guess the question at hand is how am I doing after a week... Well, here goes: I had low fat yogurt today (1/2 a cup) and that filled me up a lot. Went to the mall with my sister and mother...and after three hours of walking around, I was tired as hell. Came home, tried to eat some mushy Cereal but only had a few bites before the shoulder and back gas pain started bothering me so I stopped. I waited 30 mins bofore I went back to my splenda and lemon infused iced tea...yummie... I'll try some scrambled eggs or cottage cheese for dinner... Cannot tolerate the shakes because they make me gassy and irritate me...I'll try them again in a few days. I am so glad I am off work for the month. I don't know how some of you are doing it, but I couldn't imagine heading back to work the way I feel...even though I have a desk job. I am also on my period which is causing me to be weak (as usual)...and tired as hell...so I am glad I have the time off... What's really annoying me is the constant shoulder pain I have and the annoying burps I have to let the air out. My port is still sore, especially when I bend to try and tie my shoe laces. I cannot wait for the discomfort to end. I have a follow up with the doctor tomorrow and believe me, a long list of questions regarding pain (it's never been my favorite thing to endure). For the most part, I am glad to be moving onto mushy foods...I have been on liquids a total of 4 weeks...3 weeks pre- op and this past week. It felt like a breath of fresh air to use a spoon for a change...LOL Total weight loss so far, 20 lbs, which means I have 80 lbs to go. What a road I have ahead...and I am glad not to be doing it alone...
  16. I can't wait to have canned fruit and cottage cheese! pureed chicken salad on crackers!! yogurt! cheese! Who knew I'd be over the moon about these things? haha My one incision area is falling off somewhat. My doc said I could take them off after 1 week. I'm quite nervous to do that!! I don't want to look! ewww, gross! I just hope to God my port area is not infected. So when you're all eating your Breakfast tomorrow, think of me, slowly peeling back stinky, yellow surgical tape, sticking to my fish-white belly, catching on the skin! hahaha, so gross! Linda
  17. In looking at my food log more closely, I also figured out I was getting way too many carbs and calories with my supplement. I was using liquid multi and Calcium and Iron and B12 from a health food store. I added it up and I was getting 65 calories and 13 carbs daily with my supplements. They were sweetened with natural fruit juices. I went back to the store and found a chewable iron and a calcium gelcap and now my intake from supplements is 35 calories and 7 carbs. I may eventually replace my liquid multi-Vitamin but it packs such a nutritional punch that I hate to give it up. Also thanks for the tips on the fruit and Popsicles. I have modified my intake to just include berries and not quite so many. Also keeping my Popsicles to just 1 a day and the same for my yogurt to just 1 a day. I will look for the lower carb brands also of yogurt. In addition I have learned a lot about cheese. I have cut cheese out but the next time I go to the store I will see if I can find something with a lower fat content. As for my Peanut Butter (which I love!) I have started having that as more of a treat. I will now have 1/2 a slice of toast with a teaspoon of PB with some decaf coffee. I love coffee and PB. Definitely learning that healthy natural foods don't necessarily mean I can have all I want. There are still smart choices to be made with these foods as well. I am now focusing on my Proteins and fresh veggies first. Thanks for everyone's amazing advise!

    Full Liquid Stage Recipies

Amy, I'm doing good. I feel great, having a hard time drinking all this Water, it is too darn cold. I move to mushies after my 2 week post op on the 21st, until then it is full liquids. But that includes yogurt, pudding, blended cottage cheese and anything that goes through a funnel. How are things on your end of the country?
  20. In a health magazine I stumbles across this recipe that I have been using this last month and went from loosing 6lb a month to 10lb a month 8 oz pineapple juice 1tbls yogurt 1banana 3 strawberries 1 scoop of Protein powder. A couple tricks. I freeze the banana and strawberries helps give more of a shake consistency. And I buy the pineapple in pre measured 6oz. Cans. I also use a little less than 1 scoop because it sometimes get too griddy. I Also put the powder in very last so it doesn't get stuck to the side of my magic bullet. Hope you enjoy.

    Day 4: I think I'm losing it!

Hi, I am just interested in the different diets that Dr.'s have you on pre-op and post op. I have been on liquids for 4weeks prior, will be on clear liquids in hospital, and when I come home can start yogurt, cream soups, cream of wheat {or cream of rice} but all with protein powder or powdered milk mixed in. I do not know what I have after 1 week on this stuff. I am sure they will tell me. In all honesty, that tuna does sound very good but....... I would ask my Dr. first also. My understanding is that this is a place for support and not a place for personal attacks. I am being banded at 12:30 tomorrow!!!!!!!!!!
  22. so do I! I started my liquid diet today. Protein drink, yogurt, applesauce, v8, soup

  24. I’m 4 days out of DS and I’ve been trying to sip water all day! I only got about 18 Oz down. I also sipped 2 x 3 oz strained miso soup ate 2 x 2oz sugar free protein pudding, 2 Oz sugar free protein jello, and 1 tablespoon light Greek yogurt. I’m feeling quite week. I do keep my bottle Igor next to me and I take tiny sips every 10 minutes. If you’re in the liquid phase, how are you doing sipping? Any tips?
  25. I cant allay your fears about the problems continuing now that you've had an issue, I guess you can only be positive about the fact that the band is in position, and that's one major problem that hasnt occurred. As to success with not gaining whilst unfilled - well that is doable. I was unfilled for over 6 months and then took 3 months to get back to my normal level and I didnt gain weight. Well.... that's not strictly true, but I only regained weight that I lost - about 8 lb - I got way way too skinny from being absolutely ultra careful and exercising like a maniac whilst having chemo. I regained that weight, but I'm still 10lb lighter than when I got unfilled last year. I just continued with what I knew worked and whilst I definitely at more with no fill, I made sure that "more" was made up things like salads, fruit and wholegrain bread - all light, low calorie, no fat kinda foods, and kept my portions of Protein and fat foods at banded size. I lost significant weight doing that as whilst I'd had fill, I'd slipped into a slider food routine and was eating a lot of calorie dense foods like cookied, too much full fat yogurt, Soups which I didnt hesitate to add cream to, all that sort of thing. Once I cut that out and replaced with salads, fruit and bread, I said bye bye to about 20lb remarkably quickly - and I was at a BMI of 22 to begin with! My routine is generally an hour of hard cardio about five days a week and about three strenght sessions (sand bag circuit training or Body Pump classes using pretty heavy weights). Chemo/radiation and a big surgery in which I was given an ileostomy helped to keep that weight down, but a lot of it was my hard work. It can be done! And at the very least, its much better to only gain a little than a lot. Dont just give up whatever you do.
