What Calorie/protein Goal Is Everyone Aiming For?
RhondaMarie replied to CCornell87's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
70g and 1000 calories is what the nutirition team here recommends. Try low-fat cottage cheese... tuna without all the dressings... Yesterday I was behind Protein and Water so I ate some beef Jerky. Not bad on anything but sodium which made me drink water better. I wouldn't do that everyday, but it woked. Nutrition here says to add a scooop of you shake powder to yougurt, cottage cheese, pretty much anything to get to the goal of 70. -
Last minute surgery and Liquid pre-op diet question.
Paul_Y replied to Paul_Y's topic in Pre-op Diets and Questions
No, I have no requirement for two days of clear diet, but I do need to take a colon clense the day before (Magnesium Citrate) at 3pm and 7pm and only clear liquids after I start that. As far as GNC, I do have one of them local, but I have lost all faith in them when the lady told me all of the Protein powders are mostly the same, it doesn't really matter which one I choose. I have done further google'ing and seem to find that low carb is better than low calorie or low fat diets. But I agree about contacting your surgeon. Mine does not seem to have a preference because it is mainly for the habit for the post-op diet, but I just want to optimize my personal surgery success. -

How Many Calories Should We Get In Each Day?
Felicia replied to Mike Cannon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am lucky if I hit 600 calories. Everyone is different though. My surgeon and NUT haven't said a specific number to me. They did however say as long as your getting your protein and liquids in the rest will pan out for itself. Right now I am just breaking out of my stall and I am about to limit my carbs. I am almost a month out. -
How Many Calories Should We Get In Each Day?
longer-life replied to Mike Cannon's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeons manual and nutritionist doesn't mention calories. Like some of the others mentioned, they focus on Protein & fluids. In the beginning if you meet both of these goals daily, the carbs and calories will take care of themselves. Consider logging everything on myfitnesspal.com so you see your progression. I wasn't able to meet my requirements on week 4 due to nausea and that is the first time my NUT mentioned calories and only because I started the conversation. At 4 weeks they want me around 900-1000. The first 3 week I was getting 500 - 735. Hope that helps. -
Inches not pounds?

I am in your boat! Our stats are similar! Pre-op:260 SW:244 Current weight:219 Surgery date 1/10/13. 3 months out. I was losing steadily and when I finally get in this groove of more workouts and a higher pace, nothing!! I can't break past 219. The scale goes between 219-222. Gimme a break!! But I send feel smaller and more fit. I just hope in a month I see a big difference. Today I are at Baja Fresh and ordered the skinny wahoo fish bowl (no rice sub more Beans though next time I think I will sun more veggies). It is 3 pieces of grilled mahi 2oz each and a bowl w cabbage, black beans and this really good mango salsa. It's so good. With out the rice it came to 459 calories and it lasted me three meals (lunch, snack and dinner). It's gonna be my new go-to if I have to eat out. Hope my body recognizes the effort I'm making!! Please keep me posted on your weight loss!! -
Allowing for occasional treats
GradyCat replied to chuckwalsh's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
I'm coming up on 5 months post-op and I'm scared to death to try a "treat" for fear of it becoming a habit again. I'm waiting until I've lost all the weight and hit the maintenance phase. I eat approx. 850 calories/day. -
Calorie in/out question
Globetrotter replied to Tam180's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh lordy, as a vet (3 years July) let me just pass on my 2 cents: don't get wrapped up in the world of calories in/calories out, it is certain misery that is just not helpful. Of course monitor your calories and carb etc. breakdown with a tracker, of course exercise for general health or certain goals, but playing the numbers game will just drive you batty and take your eye off the overarching purpose of greater health. -

Has anyone else experienced weight gain right after the surgery? I was banded on 11/20 and in just a few days I've gained 6 pounds back from what I lost pre-op. And yes, I've been sticking to the post-op diet of just liquids and calories under 1,000/day.

Extreme Sports after sleeve, nutrition and hydration
buckeyegirl76 posted a topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
For any of you distance runners, Fit Cross enthusiasts or extreme sport participants. After the sleeve do you have any issues because of the very limited calorie intake; fatigue, dehydration, reduced performance, etc? I am pre surgery and concerned with being able to sustain work, such as hiking/climbing, over several consecutive days. I know initially I'll be limited during recovery but I'm wondering about 6-12 months post-op. Sent from my iPad using the BariatricPal App -
I just eat what I want in smaller portions. I dont count anything, calories, Protein etc, and I dont really believe a high protein, low carb diet is particularly healthy. As far as sugar goes, I gave it up in tea and coffee when I was about 16 and it was easy. It takes 2 weeks tops, and you get used the non sugared taste. But I woudnt hesitate to just use a bit of real sugar in moderation. I think there's some people, particularly PCOS sufferers who seem to do loads better by really cutting out carbs. In which case its sensible to do so, but for a lot of people, it just isnt necessary and they certainly dont tell you to do it in Australia, it really is an American thing.

I mix the unflavored Unjury with my crystal light when I'm close to the end if the day and need to get more protein in for the least amount of calories. I like the idea of using 16 oz of water to dilute it more so will try that too. I agree that it's similar to the Syntrax flavors. I've also learned to let it sit a bit before drinking since it seems to help eliminate the initial smell it has if you know what I mean.

January sleever-protein late at night?
monopoly2015 replied to Ashy76's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say Holy smokes yes. It's fine. You still in full liquids. Just sip sip sip and have a Couple protein shakes or isopures. Don't worry about the meals yet. You are eating less than 300 calories -
wow - carefull with those mixed drinks - lots of empty calories. i was a former big time beer drinker. i opt for bourbon on the rocks these days. you can always dilute it down with water or club soda if you like. likewise, rum and diet coke is much better than a gin and tonic. i would just say be mindfull of your mixers. by the way, i can still enjoy one or two beers pretty easily...especially beers on tap

I just don't hit the "done" button -- I even pay for the premium service and it still says that, even though I have 800 set as my calorie goal.

There's a gazillion flavors on the Internet and we all have very different tastes when it comes to these drinks--I always say try to find a site where you can buy samples or just one pound at a time to try (i.e. Amazon.com: Online Shopping for Electronics, Apparel, Computers, books, DVDs & more ). I totally agree with you regarding the canned shakes--they are good for one thing only: convenience! Other than that they taste tinny and nasty! I did buy a case of Zoic which I use in a pinch (for travel) and it actually tastes worse than Slim Fast--BUT it has less calories, fat and carbs and more Protein than Slim Fast. Give me the Protein powder any day--I mix my belgian chocolate up with Water and it tastes fabulous to me!! (from the above website--with free shipping) Again, everyone has their own tastes! -

Congrats on your weight loss! I am only 3 months post op, so I cannot comment directly on your experience, however, I’ve always been a big snacker so I thought I’d share the information my dietician discussed with me. She told me some people have an easier time eating 5-6 small “meals” throughout the day versus 3 regular meals. She told me it’s okay if I eat a snack or two - as long as it is protein focused or a vegetable. So things like cottage cheese, Greek yogurt, cheese sticks, etc are good snack options. The other thing I’m curious about is if you are counting your calories or logging your intake in some way? That has always helped me to see what I’ve eaten and make sure I stay within my calorie limit. Anyway, I hope you can get some answers. Keep us posted ☺️

Too Tight.....Sometimes
ParrotheadCathy replied to RoscoePColtrane's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I was told NO CARBONATION .... and my doctor knew my weakness was DIET COKE (zero calories). I don't think that it relates to the potential for slippage but for regular consumption, the stretching of the pouch. I remember in my younger days sitting in a bar with a bunch of friends and someone, trying to be funny, slipped a condom over the top of a beer bottle ... and the expansion of the carbonation in the beer inflated that condom pretty quickly. I certainly don't want to stretch my pouch out so that teh band can't do it's job restricting what I eat. I mean, why would I have done this in the first place if I wasn't willing to make a few changes. And, soda, regardless of whether it is diet or regular isn't good for you. It can damage the enamel on your teeth, disclolor your teeth, contribute to anemia and some other things. -
WARNING, Scales May Cause Depression
Road Queen replied to HarleyNana's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Pat, Thanks for the reminder. I've been really bummed. At the beginning I was down 22 pounds at one point. Now, its only 19.5. I just have one of the scales that measures body fat but I have gone from 44% down to 41%. I am just going to assume the 2.5 pounds has changed from fat to muscle. Remember, muscle burns more calories...!! -
I just started my third week post op and I feel really good. I get full really easy but I feel like I can eat just about anything. I realize inside I am still healing and I can't feel it, but I had some popcorn (dry popped) last night and it didn't seem to bother me. It only has 6 grams of carbs and 33 calories. It was just something because I wanted a "crunch" and figured it's a healthier option. I am not allowed to have raw veggies yet or I would have had celery. Tonight I'm going to try a little chicken.
