I agree, Check with your surgeon. I had low energy too and low blood pressure with several weeks. There’s no way I could walk around Disneyland. I couldn’t stroll around the local shopping centre for 30 minutes. Can you postpone your trip? I know your son is probably vey excited but he won’t enjoy it if you’re not at your full strength. Congratulations on getting your surgery approval.

    Finally!

10.5 months post op and I'm down 100 lbs! This after a three month stall which finally broke last week where I lost 8lbs. Whew! I needed to share this with people who understand the struggle! I dragged my husband up from his chair and had him do the happy dance with me! Bless the goofy man he asked if I was officially done now with losing. Now, 50 more to go!

    Any 50yo or older?

73 last week. Had RNY in June 2016 when I was 64 and only 20 lbs regain. This surgery changed my life and has made aging so much easier Would certainly encourage anyone who’s interested to give it serious thought
  5. just a note on BMR - I've heard this from both a former dietitian of mine and from a nutrition class I took a couple of years ago at UW-Milwaukee on obesity and weight loss, so it's likely true (seems to be the case with me, anyway...). It's very common for formerly obese people to need to eat 300-400 calories less per day than a person of the same height/weight/activity level who's never been obese in order to maintain their weight. So in other words (and I'm just pulling this example out of the blue), if a calorie calculator tells you that it takes about 1800 cal/day to maintain your weight, if you were formerly obese, that could mean that for you, it's probably more like 1400-1500 calories to maintain. That being said, I do agree with some of the others that you may be underestimating your calorie intake since I would think you'd be losing weight at that intake level. It might be helpful to cut back by about 100 cal/day for a couple of weeks and see if the scale starts moving again. if not, cut another 100 calories for a couple of weeks. Rinse and repeat until the scale starts moving. I've had to do this a few times to get things moving..

    Stomach sleeping

I slept on my back in a recliner for the first week or two. If you don't have a recliner, i don't know that I'd go out and buy one just for this, but I found it really helpful during the early recovery period. I don't really know, but I'd think it would be a bit longer for sleeve patients to recover to the point that stomach sleeping was comfortable again? Your profile doesn't seem to have that info, so I'm not sure which surgery you're planning to have.

    Purée Stage

I pureed many different family dinners - just whatever was being made for everyone else! I loved them because they smelled and tasted of actual food after 4 weeks on nothing but protein shakes. They're not for everyone though - mine were smooth baby food texture and lots of people just don't like that. I still used shakes to meet my protein goals for those 2 weeks, or at least get close.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

Hi all I am just over 4 weeks post op and today I got up and went for a walk!! This is huge for me as I have not gone for a walk in around 6 years! I suffer from depression and i live in my bedroom most days. But… I am starting to slowly come out of there and actually do stuff in other parts of my house! I know it may seem small but it is a massive win for me! Have a great day!

    January 2025 Surgery Buddies!

Happy to see you're doing so well! I'm going home today. Ended up getting sleeved on Wednesday, which wasn't the initial plan. My surgery was scheduled for Thursday, Jan 30. When I arrived on Wed morning for my pre-ops (blood work, urine test, EKG, meeting with psychologist, etc) they asked if I'd like to have the procedure that same day as the schedule had unexpectedly opened up. I was like, sure let's just get this over with lol They gave me a bottle of water with 1000mg Tylenol, benadryl, and Clonopin to help me relax, and told me not to drink anything else from there on out. I had the VSG around 3:00p. I remember the anesthesiologist saying, "If you feel a little dizzy, that's normal." And then nothing. I woke up in recovery lol I was really groggy when I woke up and a little disoriented, like "Where am I? What's going on? It's over already? That's it?" Haha. I did feel pressure in my abdomen and I kept having to tell myself to breathe. I haven't felt much pain, only when getting up and sitting down, and I haven't felt nauseous at all, thank god. A young lady in the room next to mine had nausea SO bad. I felt for her cuz that's awful. I've been walking a lot to help relieve the gas pressure. It's a lot better than it was a couple days ago. They took out my IV yesterday and I have been able to take my medications by mouth without any problem. I'm able to tolerate liquids, and have been mixing water with gatorade. I got a B12 shot in the ass today, and that sucker hurt! Yowza. They have me on an antiobiotic and blood thinner for the next week. I also have pain medication that I can take every 6hrs, but I honestly haven't needed to take it that much. I'll just use Tylenol once I get home. Looking forward to going home today and seeing my three babies! (They're cats lol) But first I have to discharge and then go to the airport. Hopefully the flight home isn't too bad. 🤞

    So excited!

@Mspretty86 did they tell you if it will be a breast aug or will you need a lift too? well I am 23days out and I am not cleared however I think my case is a little more involved. Because I had to have an internal bra he did not want me to work out due to making me swell too much. He said that I have such little breast tissue we are relying on that internal bra to drop them down where they are supposed to go- if I didn't have it I would have implants in my armpits lol I cannot lie, I am slowly dying without it LOL but I love the way they look so its a necessary evil (if that is even the right way to put it) Everywhere online for normal breast aug and lifts said easy walking by week 2. Hard workouts 6 weeks to 8 weeks. So I really just think it depends. I probably will be cleared to do cardio and lower body before I can do upper body.

Is brown rice supposed to be chewy.

Thank you, I ended up just adding it to the burrito and it was fine, but I was starting to really question why I was not able to figure this out after going through two boxes!! I used the instapot, three different kitchen pots, made a larger portion, cooked it longer, added more water, and anything’s else I could think of. Finally I was like maybe it’s just supposed to be like this. The one good thing that did come from that experience is that now I know the Insta pot has a rice setting. I may try it with the regular rice which I’m sure is less chemicals.

    Any 50yo or older?

Hi. I had surgery on Dec 2, 2024, one week before I turned 51. And same, wish I had done it sooner. I've seen that many our age and older have done this. I'm excited for what this year will hold for me! I'd love to hit my goal weight by Dec. 31, 2025!
  15. Hi lovelies, I hope you’re all doing well? You were all so supportive with the question I asked a few weeks ago that I thought I would come here and see if you have any advice for me now! As of tomorrow I am eight weeks out from the gastric bypass procedure. I have lost quite a bit of weight (2 stone) which I’m absolutely delighted about (and people are starting to notice which has been a really good feeling). However, I must have THE most stubborn self sabotaging streak because I have started to drink alcohol again (and not just on special occasions) as well as not following the food rules and not exercising. I can’t understand why I’m being like this because my family are so happy that I’ve done this and have been so supportive, and my friends (even though they don’t know about the operation are really starting to notice) so WHY am I doing this to myself? I just wondered if you guys knew of a reason I may have hit the wall so early (I really do not want to fail) and especially if you have any advice, book recommendations apps or anything that I might be able to do to help me get back on track and find my way again. Really appreciated as always thank you xx

possible to stall after 9 day?

Well loss still excruciatingly slow here! 😩 I had a weird thing with the scales this week. I was 97.4 kg, then the battery died in my scale, so changed it, to find I was up to 98.8 WTF!! Hubster weighed he was also 1.5kg above where he had been. We now don't know if pre or post battery change is correct! And I don't feel like I have lost any, still feeling very fat. Eating an average of 800 cals, but makes little difference if I eat much more or less. It's a bit over a month since surgery, and I have lost 8 kg or 16lbs, most of that in the first week. I am trying to meet water and protein goals, not always hitting it, but do often (avg 67gm from 70 goal) Despairing a bit here tbh.

Report Your WINS ..What is your today's win??🥇

Wow!! Love this! You are rocking it! Major Wins! I do not own a scale, not good for my mental so I do not know where I am at, hopefully no stalls but if so not going to think much about it. I want to remain happy and stress free 😂. My 6 month post op is in NOV so we shall see. Like someone else on this post said we just have to do what's right like 90% of the time and everything will work itself out!

    All protein is now gross

So I’m technically on soft foods now, per their little sheet they gave me. I tolerated purées fine so I was cleared to move to soft foods. I’ve also been…rarely picking at the softer ends of regular foods. Primarily pickles. Not sure why I have been intensely craving pickles, but it’s more intense than when I was pregnant. I have a fear of losing all of my hair and what muscle mass I do have so I’ve been hyper focused on my protein intake, which is absolutely pitiful right now. I did go shopping on the site earlier and ordered some of the protein shots, and then some hot cocoa mix, as well as liquid protein packets. I have always been a “grazer” so it’s hard for me to sit down and focus on a meal, but if I have something healthy to pick at or drink, I’ll drink it. I figure 100ml is easier to down than an entire shake, and I can do that a lot easier three times a day than I can with regular shakes.

    January 2025 Surgery Buddies!

I'm on day 3 of my pre-op liquid diet. My surgery date is the 30th. Three protein shakes a day, and I can blend fruit (apple and/or berries) with some protein powder for a smoothie and also non-starch veggies for pureed soup. No sugar, no carbs, no dairy. Thank goodness for my Magic Bullet and immersion blender! It's going okay so far. My cravings are all head hunger because the liquid diet is keeping me full. I'm also having doubts every day. I know I need to do this because whatever I lose, I will just gain back and then some. I've lost 60 lbs. over and over again for the last 15 years. I can never keep it off. So, this surgery isn't necessarily to help me lose as I know I can do that on my own, but to help me maintain loss and keep it off for good. There are so many things I love that I am looking forward to doing, things my weight has been preventing for most of my adult life. Shopping "normal" sizes, traveling, socializing, horseback riding. I just need to focus on my long-term goals.

    Creature of Habit

I've been delaying going to my foot surgeon for this exact same reason. I am worried he'll bring up surgery again and that would freak me out. The surgery I would be getting requires a cast for 6 weeks! Dammit. Now for you, you can start walking when you're cleared. I remember after my breast Aug. I was back to crazy intense exercise after taking one week off (not recommending that tho, please get the clearance from your surgeon first). You will be able to start walking in no time and it'll all be okay. Hang in there!
  22. Do you mean SADI? Or is SASI another newer surgery? I had a sleeve revision to SADI and they warned me that diarrhea would be an issue for the first three or so months. For me I haven’t had this issue. Some days my stool is loose but it’s only once a day. I have been eating extremely clean though so perhaps that’s part of it. I would keep a log of what you’re eating and when it is happening and get with your team. You may have developed an allergy to something. That’s not at all uncommon.

    January 2025 Surgery Buddies!

I told my surgeon about meals as they had me eating soup with shredded chicken and tiny bits of carrots all they said it’s ok if your tolerance is ok. Just as well it was and I didn’t get any problems but I must admit it’s left me quite confused now and what I’m able to eat 3 weeks later x

    Sexy Time

Hey girl, I’m four weeks post-op and I have found it really hard to swallow cum too. I think my tummy can’t handle it anymore. Idk maybe I should wait longer and see if this is still the case. 😬
